Bringin' Home the Oil‎, etc.

A great find. I just hope they keep it on youtube for awhile. They don't make ads like that anymore. Another one that comes to mind is the two-minute ad for Texaco, with the choral group singing all about how "You can trust your car to the man who wears the star..." Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 06:40, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

I don't remember all the video, of course, but some of the scenes look familiar. Curiously, the sound seems to be "sped up", yet it's supposedly 2 minutes. I didn't put a stop watch to it, though. The Texaco song I referred to is apparently not on youtube, but it's on a CD called "TV Toons - The Commercials" or some such. That was a time when ads were real productions and not just bang-bang clips and noise. Consider this one-minute ad for McDonald's (which is already in the article), one of the most significant ads ever, the one that really put McDonald's on the map and left everyone else in the dust: [1] See if you can pick out the late Johnny Haymer among the crew. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 06:58, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Of course, if you're talking "productions", here's a literal production number, created by Stan Freberg and starring Ann Miller. The guy looks familiar but I can't place him. [2] I'm not sure the actual product, the soup, is made any more. C'est la vie. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 07:13, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

IP blocks

Hi, thanks for taking care of the abuse filter blocks like this one. Just a small note: you might want to consider shorter blocks in this case, it's a large internet provider with highly volatile dynamic IP ranges, so a long block will have no more effect than a shortish one (48-hrs or so). Question about jingle punks page

Hey PMDrive 1061,

I was just notified that you deleted the page I just created for my company Jingle Punks. I would like to know what I did wrong and how I can re-create the page without it being considered a promotion... We are an up-and-coming small business that is going to be growing a lot in the very near future. I have several articles and such to add as sources. We are not doing this for promotional purposes. (It is my first Wiki page ;) )

Any suggestions? We really want to a page, we are even mentioned in other people's wiki pages... (anthony martini for example)

Thanks

BD surf and skate

Hey PMDrive1061, —Preceding unsigned comment added by Barny Fife (talkcontribs) 20:20, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

This company does not even exist yet, it is not even starting to be developed. In fact I am 14 and my best friends and I want to start this surf and skate shop when we move out so how could this even possibly be an advertisement, you can research it yourself and you will find nothing on except for maybe a freak coincidence. So next time why don't research past an opinion before you delete somebodies article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Barny Fife (talkcontribs) 20:18, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Jamnadas Majethia

Hi, could you please confirm that User:Bhoomi485 is the original author of Jamnadas Majethia, as I have just given the a warning for the copyright vio. Also, you may want to re-delete the page (it was created by User:Blanchardb, presumably by accident). Thanks - Kingpin13 (talk) 01:23, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Heh, actually it was me who left a notice for the user, as that's what I suspected had happened (it happens a lot with Twinklers; they click to mark the page, an admin deletes, they mark the page, recreating in the process). Anyway, thanks for dealing with the page. I'll try and pop by more often :) - Kingpin13 (talk) 01:32, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Innapropriate articles

Sorry about them - I was trying a simple test that couldn't be done on the sandbox. I'm all done now, just felt the need to give you an explanation. Don't worry, you won't have to delete it a third time - I value and recognize this encyclopedia's worth, and would never troll it.

Sincerest apologies.

Dominic Barber

Hi, You deleted my page on the theatre director Dominic Barber. I would have preferred some help in formatting the page as the guidelines are rather opaque for a newbie such as me.

I also contest that Dominic Barber has no notability because he has few google hits. It is because he has no web presence that I decided to create his page.

Link to a blog by Daniel Austin (current artistic director of Jersey Arts Centre) on Dominic Barber's work [3] Link to a picture of 'Afterlife' a public artwork dedicated to Dominic Barber [4] Review of a large scale publicly funded opera work from 'Opera Magazine' that Dominic Barber directed [5] An academic book about when Dominic's Wilde Community Theatre company took a play in to Broadmoor Hospital with the RSC and RNT [6]

Is it possible to re-instate the page, but with some help to get it in shape please?

All best, Thomas Neill (talk) 09:53, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Can you semi-protect the page for three days or so? Every day, IPs keep removing the AfD tag from it (about 10 times so far); AfD should close as delete in three days, so that should do it. cheers. -SpacemanSpiffCalvinHobbes 05:25, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Er Dong synopses

If you can compare to the previous page that you deleted, I have made an honest attempt to summarize the copyrighted material in "my own words" avoiding "advertising speak". If you still feel that you have to delete the synopsis, please delete ONLY that and not the film information/titles as this information was acquired from imdb in the public domain and violates no copyright. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ariellavt (talkcontribs) 20:54, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

It's back

My apologies. I hadn't realised til after I copy-edited and moved article List of Christian Rock Bands, that you had deleted it earlier in the day. It does however exist again, and in poor form since its creator basically trashed my copy-edit. On the assumption that it will likely be deleted again, I've chosen to refrain from further editing, but figured it was worth bringing to your attention. I honestly thought I was making a productive contribution... No disrespect intended. -- WikHead (talk) 20:41, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

LOL, thank you for the speedy reply! I guess this means the article is after all, safe to edit. My biggest concern, is the fact that it's heavily overlinked, ambiguously... which was the main target of my initial edits. I guess at this point, I'm not sure whether I should go back to clean that up, or if I'd only be inviting an edit-war ;). Thanks again, and have yourself a pleasant day! :) -- WikHead (talk) 21:04, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

speedy deletion of Who The F

  • Hey PM, it's been a while. You may not know that I just got "the mop" a few hours ago. One of the main things that my opposition at my RFA latched on to was that I had tagged a few articles for A3 that had only infoboxes as their content. I'm inclined to agree that that should not be enough to qualify as "meaningful substantive content" but apparently current consensus, and the wording at WP:CSD do not support this approach. Just thought I'd bring that to your attention. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:10, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Matt Eventoff article

It was actually not "without meaning" it was totally empty. I accidentally pushed publish while still editing so I tagged it deleted it all (saved it to a word doc) and tagged it with

. I'm not too too new at all this. Aren't people supposed to wait at least a day before removing an article that's under construction? No hard feelings, I'll re-publish it once it's finished but I sincerely don't understand the point of the under construction tag if it is ignored.

Thanks so much! StewartNetAddict (talk) 21:32, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

If you look at my writing I don't mean yelling when I type in all caps. I use it A LOT. I beginning to realize that most people assume it means yelling, but for me I use it because I LIKE IT. To the point the article was created twice before and was easily regarded as spam. Yes, I should have been nicer and have told him that it was spam, but I was also dealing with two annoying people who keep recreating article that was nonsense and I was assuming that he was like them. Patrick Mahon

Hi, I just started a new page Patrick Mahon which you just deleted. Granted I hadn't written 'stub', or 'under construction', but was deletion really more appropriate than a notability tag? After all that is what notability tags are for... I'd be grateful if you'd be a liitle less aggressive in deleting new articles in the future. I, in turn, will try to use 'under construction' tags in the future. (FYI I've created over 80 articles on WP - so a little assumption of good faith would seem to have been in order). Hi,

Good day and hope you are doing good !

Nice to see my article posted on WikiPedia for that long :).

I have just a question infact a fear of getting this deleted again. If someone edit this article just to spoil it or wants to delete it or make wrong changes in it , whats the criteria? will all changes will be monitored to make this article purposeful.

Hope to get your precise answer on this :) --Aqazhar (talk) 19:37, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

help, advice please

I know you're battling BF101, but at least that user registers names. If you haven't been following along, there is an anon IP a few of us have been battling that we refer to as "jump in dot". A recent list of associated edits has been kept here, but the edits also include adding wildly incorrect information to various Disney film or TV show pages. Seems to be focused on Disney XD in Ireland, for example. Never a citation, changes dates, the occasional good edit to slip things past the goalie, etc. Generally speaking, whenever I see an edit by 83.70.x.x in those pages, I'm fairly certain it will turn out to be this person. We did do this for one IP, and things died down for two weeks, but was looking for what the next step would be to try to block them (or make it more difficult) better. All the WP-anon info I've seen points to "don't bite the newbies" and having to go through more hoops than you are doing with BF101. Mucho advice appreciated. SpikeJones (talk) 15:34, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

thx. Between myself, McDoob, and Bovine we can generate a more complete list of related IP edits beyond what's on the JID page we're maintaining, if that would help. Let me know whatever you need me to submit to wherever. SpikeJones (talk) 22:16, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

A3/A1

Hey there again PMDrive :). It's great to see an admin checking the new pages as they come in, and deleting them accordingly, rather than patrolling CAT:CSD. But when deleting under A1 or A3 (as you did to Wikipedia beta) please be sure to wait for a while, to see if the creator plans to expand the article (yes, technically they should use a sandbox, or text document, but these articles are doing little harm (you could also userify the articles)). Don't forget that you can still use speedy deletion templates yourself for cases where you think two admins should check the page :). Best, - Kingpin13 (talk) 01:00, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Sitar

Will the page qualify for a couple of weeks of semi-protection? There's this one anon (who jumps a couple of IPs in the range) who keeps adding spam for a school that teaches playing the Sitar in the Santa Cruz area, quite a few have reverted, but he comes back and adds and now he removed the section entirely. cheers. -SpacemanSpiffCalvinHobbes 16:16, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, the chap pops up every now and then and just does this, nothing else. I traced one IP to comcast in the bay area, so figured that he's connected with this particular school. cheers. -SpacemanSpiffCalvinHobbes 16:35, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Shortest Wikipedia Article

Thanks for that! That is probably less time than it takes to read the creation summary (or the talk). As I said it was not entirely frivolous: although this was a red rag to a bull, I do wonder sometimes that many of those watching the newly-created articles list simply love to pounce on anything with some kind of "no content" bull: it actually takes time and thought to create an article and they simply will not give it time to develop. Even the heaviest works usually have hidden nuggets of humour in them, and this seemed relatively harmless, considering the vandalism I and thousands of other editors have to untangle every day.

I know before when I have created an article which was "meant light-heartedly" I got on the PROD page something of the words like "I expect better from an editor with over six thousand edits who admits it was a joke". Sorry, teacher. (NOT). And I had not, anyway, admitted it was a joke (any more than this one was), more a light-hearted way to show a point. Some articles deserve to be light-hearted; which is not to say they are trivial.

Anyway I edited it to make it shorter (Just "Is it?") but I am not sure if that edit carried. More interesting, though, would be a competition to find the shortest article that obeys MOS. A large chunk of that would be achieved simply by not including parts of MOS that say "If you have this you must have that", but there must be a bare minimum article that would meet MOS and, in theory, get FA.

Best wishes (I haven't checked who deleted it yet, but my comments stand whether it was you or not.) SimonTrew (talk) 17:59, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

I have a feeling I know who, who posted on my user talk page self-confessedly grumpy "for other reasons" with the section title "meh!" or some such and then told me he would accept it this time as I am normally a good editor (!) and don't do it too often. Excuse me, but I didn't realise he made the rules here. If anything, it has thrown out my editing stats disproportionately because I get incredibly few deletes or reversions (many of which are my own after second thoughts). I have never wanted any kind of rights beyond the basic editor rights.
I was told it was not the shortest and I am sure there could be shorter ones. I think blank articles are thrown out automatically, but I was tempted just with an up arrow (↑) pointing at the article title.
What would, I think, be interesting, is to have a little competition – perhaps not in article namespace – for the shortest possible article that could get FA. Assuming that this would require conforming with MOS, it might be quite tricky, as presumably would need a contents page etc, categories, and so on; and would require at least defining what was and what was not part of the article (e.g. categories, the article title, etc). This would, I think, show some great intelligence and wit (like for example the International Obfuscated C Code Contest does) and also holes and contradictions in MOS, the review process etc, which could only be to the good.
I know from real life that sometimes silly examples prove not to be so silly. I work producing molecular modeling software, and each Christmas we spend a day or so subverting the software to do silly things-- building christmas trees and snowscenes on the nanoscale with buckyballs as snowballs etc etc. It is amazing how much ingenuity gets put into these perversions, and how much real good comes out of it: because it is all done in script, our customers can "see how it is done" and often our silly tricks are of real use to them. So I have a great respect for silly examples.
I did realise, before posting it, that it had probably been done before, and perhaps would get a bit boring. I am glad you liked it as a change, as you say, from the usual run of vandalism.
Best wishes SimonTrew (talk) 22:22, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
I am not sure what I can do about uploading to Commons. I doubt it will do any harm but my company (Accelrys) usually likes a credit for work created with its packages: not royalties or anything but just "Created with Accelrys Materials Studio", something like that. We also have an atomic clock which, as you may have already guessed, is simply twelve atoms arranged in a circle (well dodecagon) as marks for the hours, three hands made out of bonds to an atom in the middle of the circle, which are moved round the clock each second. Not perhaps a very good model of a real atomic clock, but it keeps good time! This was the (my) original silly idea to test our new Scripting framework, and was done in about half an hour. It usually amuses and actually is now part of our daily test framework: if the atomic clock stops, nothing else will work! They are nice examples of "how not to do it" as it shows our customers how to do things they may not really have thought possible, not of course so much for the nice pictures but for real applications. Each year we try to make it more and more perverse, and it is quite a challenge really to use really what are nicely 3D balls and sticks and stuff like that to make silly pictures. Falling snow was tricky to get right.
I am glad I am not the only lunatic in the world who actually finds this kind of silliness useful. I go through so many boring articles on WP or textbooks in real life full of A and B and when I write them it is Dastardly and Muttley or whatever is appropriate, then get told off that the example is too frivolous. But in fact, EVERYONE knows (at least in the context of my audience) who Dastardly and Muttley are and their various traits and so on, rather than have to remember what B stands for. Makes much more sense to me. SimonTrew (talk) 00:19, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

hi, you deleted by rebooted page today and i was wondering if you could give me some insight...

i referenced the Criteria for composers... "Has credit for writing or co-writing either lyrics or music for a notable composition.... Deletion of Harris County Psychiatric Center article

Hi... it says to ask the admin that deleted your articles why they deleted them so here I am. :) I just wrote an article about the Harris County Psychiatric Center and literally a few seconds after I submitted it it was deleted. It was a speedy deletion (with no warning) and you said it was deleted due to a copyright infringement, and not only that, but an unambiguous copyright infringement. I wrote the whole article myself, so I don't know how that would be. I did not copy one sentence from anywhere else. Do you think there might have been an accident or a mistake? I doubt you would have had time to read my article in those few seconds. Can you check this out?

Hehe, I don't believe he's a well-meaning editor considering he said "fuck you" and also used the word "tesão", which has a coupe of meanings in Portuguese and in that case meant he was having fun creating those articles. Your deletion request/deletion in progress, is erroneous and false. Your statement relating to the credibility of the article is incomplete, due to the lack of your research. We understand that today's posts are at large questionable, but you should always contact the author or research the subject before attempting to delete. Due to you and your colleagues' skepticism, we have included references to other websites and the United States Patent Treaty Organization that will validate our article and position. Furthermore, we will include references in our article from field-related textbooks. We are looking forward to you changing the deletion request in respect to our article. At the top of your talk page you list:

Be polite Assume good faith Avoid personal attacks Be welcoming

Do you follow these?

We were polite. You didn't assume good faith and deleted the article. No one was polite and offered to assist with the page if the wording was an issue. Its not vary welcoming to have our web page deleted.

I work for an engineering company that is working on a new type of engine that uses whats being refered to as the "Reisser-Cycle" since it is mechanically different than the "OTTO Cycle" enginess produced today. Check the patents that are being referenced online.

We have running prototypes with data aquired from dyno testing. Unfortunately you keep deleting the web page before we can complete all the references. (videos, graphs and pictures of the engine) We haven't spent over $500,000 developing a hoax.

The engine we are working on is a new 'out-of-the-box' design. Your response is unfortunatly the typical response we see. Which is why in fact that we are putting our data online.

There are no referneces as we are the patent holder and the developer.

The Reisser-Cycle will be reposted and I ask that you give us a chance to upload the content.

YouTube search niamareisserllc and watch the video of our CHB-1 prototype engine RUNNING. It does not use the standard piston configuration used by standard engines.

The only thing we are doing is posting data and information we have aquired developing this motor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shootmeplz (talkcontribs) 16:39, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

G5 criteria

Hello,

Is there a particular reason for deleting a used category just because it was created by a banned user like Category:Garfield video games? Or any other article? I am not sure I fully understand the point of G5. It would seem that the point of banning a user is to prevent and not have to deal with any disruptions they may make. However, if a banned user gets around a ban to create any kind of legitimate article, the whole reason that they are ban and thus would warrant speedily deleting an article based on that ban, deteriorates. After all, if a banned user creates an article full of patent nonsense, vandalism, deleted material, et cetera, we have criteria for that. RP9 (talk) 21:41, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

The category is still being used, so I guess it would be a good idea to restore it. Also, because this is a category, "having no substantial edits by others" is not exactly an indicator of whether it should be kept or not. I personally don't mind whether this gets deleted in this case, but it bothers me the way G5 is used. How often does this happen where other CSD criteria did not apply? Would it be better to send through CFD/AFD? RP9 (talk) 03:29, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

Where Have You Gone Charming Billy?

You deleted this as an implausible redirect but it had been used by an editor (before a page move), there was a link from the author page using it, and a lot of people are very casual about punctuation. It seems highly plausible, to me. Please don't delete potentially useful rds like this. I've just created the complete set of with/without comma and with/without question mark - all might help someone find the article either (a) to read or (b) to avoid creating a duplicate article. I'd suggest that rds from page moves, other than actual typos (eg if it was "Wjere have you..."), should usually not be deleted. PamD (talk) 08:26, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

To continue on this thought, consider this. I've been looking at this article and trying to determine just why these editions even need articles. There is an article that discusses Disney's home video history, and these various editions are merely marketing terms to separate them from the previous releases. I'm going to bring this up in the article and see what people think about a merger into the article for WDSHE. --McDoobAU93 (talk) 18:14, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

I feel like I'm going round and round in circles trying to tag them manually. An automated tool, like NPWatcher would help me a lot. Could you please check out my stats and get back to me? ~~ Dr Dec (Talk) ~~ 19:40, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Template:Huckleberry Hound

I'm considering of converting the "characters" section of Template:Huckleberry Hound into a "Segments of The Huckleberry Hound Show" section. The template was created today. Should I be bold and make the edit, or should I propose it. My reasoning is (and I hope my explanation is clear enough):

  • To be consistent with Template:Yogi Bear who's characters section only lists Yogi Bear characters (the 1'st approach) , not characters of every segment of the shows the Yogi Bear segment appeared in (The Huckleberry Hound and Yogi Bear shows) (the 2'ed approach). (both shows).
  • Template:Huckleberry Hound takes takes the 2'ed approach and lists the characters of every segment of the show the segment is in (The Huckleberry Hound Show).
  • T:Yogi Bear used the 1's approach sense it was created, in 2007, so T:Yogi Bear sets the prescient.
  • Converting T:HH's characters section the 1'st approach would leave just 1 character, and I doubt it could be expanded beyond this. The remaining option would be to salvage the section if possible.

I suspect I'm being an un-bold wuss by asking you and giving you this detailed explanation instead of just being bold and making the edit.--Emmette Hernandez Coleman (talk) 22:00, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Immediate Deletion of Texas Appleseed

I also created a page about a notable non-profit organization which was flagged and deleted under G11. This organization is the Texas Branch of a national non-profit organization that advocates against social injustices. Its projects have been covered by many media outlets and have paved the way for significant changes in Texas. What do I need to do to make the page not promotional? Is it just adding references to news articles and reports? I want to ensure that when i re-post it that it isnt immediately deleted. I would really appreciate any feedback or help you can give me. You blocked Special:Contributions/68.35.208.229 for 6 months, but not Special:Contributions/98.90.104.26 who's also likely BF101. Is that because 68.35 has a longer history? Help getting a Matt Furey page started that is acceptable.

Hi! My first article and I run into a roadblock. Imagine that :) I hope you can point me in the right direction because this topic seems to be a tough one to get started. Anyway, any advice you can give would be appreciated. I'm very new to Wiki and it seems you are experienced in these types of things. Ready to learn...

So, I'd like to get some Fitness Celebrities pages up. Since they can be viewed as promotional it seems they are hard to get going without copyright or spam infringement. The first page I have tried to get up is "Matt Furey". I don't care if his websites or books are listed, but it seems there should be a page for him and his accomplishments. When I took biographical info from his website, it was tagged for copyright. Do I need some written permission from Mr. Furey in an official way? I can get his email confirmation but not sure that's acceptable. It's difficult to say the simple points such as his Wrestling career history without it being viewed as copyright infringement. It seems this page has had issues getting started in the past, so maybe that is adding to the difficulty? His website is http://www.mattfurey.com/bio.html and there you can find all the basic info. If I take just the sports career info I still get copyright issues. Thanks for any help in this regard, as I'm sure it will happen from other Fitness Celebrity pages I hope to be able to create. Bambifan

Hey, I saw your comments on simple wiki and I thought I'd drop you a line, from what I can tell there hasn't been any type of formal complaints to the ISP for Bambi though he definitely the requirements for WP:Abuse Response. We're starting to get nearer the end of our rebuild of the old Abuse Report system and while we haven't done usernames yet we have definitely talked about the possibility. We would need to get check users involved of course and while the privacy policy has a specific clause allowing the release of the IP to help contact ISPs I would guess they may want to wait until we're a little more set up before they did something like that. We haven't put together an official policy on how to do usernames yet though my thoughts when talking to BSmithme has been to create an abuse report and then present that to the Checkusers as the reason we need the IPs to contact the ISPs. I'd be happy to work with you trying to get a report together if you'd like. Jamesofur (talk) 04:18, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi

I just wanted to say thank you for helping deal with user 216.165.33.90. I've no idea why they said that I should include an edit summary to explain why I was reverting their edits. Personally I would've thought that Twinkle posting it was reverting vandalism was enough!

I did actually check what Wikipedia said on the articles he was vandalising and compared it to what Google found. Funnily enough Google agrees with all of my reverts.

It's the first time I've come across such a serial vandaliser like that. Is there any tips that you have in dealing with serial vandalisers? --5 albert square (talk) 01:49, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Thank you!

Hey thanks for the tips. I kind of stumbled across the guy accidentally when I was checking the anon IPs contributions list, noticed that John was dealing with it, but there were quite a lot of edits coming in so thought I'd lend a hand. I'm guessing by the fact that he posted on the Wikipedia Protection Page, that he must've been following me around Wikipedia undoing all my edits, really annoys me when people intentionally vandalise the encyclopedia.

Thanks again for the advice :) --5 albert square (talk) 02:37, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Deleted Page: "The Phuture That Never Happened"

I don't understand why you deleted this page. I Know I didn't fill it with a lot of text, but I am not good at writing, so I leave this to other persons..

I am new to editing here, but I have used Wikipedia as a sourche for many years now. Tracklistings on other albums have been very useful for me, when trying to find out more about an artist/groups relases. So I thought I would contribute a bit, especially on albums that I have bought and that are a bit difficult to find information about.

Please reconsider you deletion of the page.

If not, you should probably delete the link to this page from the artist "Mental Overdrive".

Blind reverts

Hello, while the vandal IP has made a rather big mess of the Armenian-Azeri articles lately, I caution you to refrain from making blind reverts in instances where he has removed the Azeri name. There are no third-party sources to support their inclusion so the mere fact that a sockpuppet is making these edits does not excuse their validity. Most, if not all, of those names don't belong there. I'm telling you this as an editor who has wide experience in this and it's generally preferable that you rollback at least some of your reverts. Thanks for understanding. Regards.--Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 04:18, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

I don't think mass removal of Azerbaijani names was justified. Each case should be discussed separately, and arguments for removal must be presented and discussed. I see no reason for removal of vast majority of those names. Grandmaster 19:32, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
I see nothing wrong with what you did. Any edits by socks must be reverted on spot. If anyone wishes to implement those changes, he must make them as a registered user and take full responsibility for them. So thank you for your interference. Grandmaster 04:22, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

I understand but this is highly problematic. Some discretion would have been highly desirable. For example, on the article on the Igdir province, you actually removed a parentheses which the anon had added, a very unnecessary and puzzling revert. Reverting your revert would be a start. For reasons which still baffle me, John Vandenburg's blind revert readded the Azeri spelling to the Akhtala Monastery, something which clearly does not belong there. How on earth is its inclusion relevant when reading the whole article in its context? Just because a sock was making these edits does not mean that you have to ignore the content of the edits and head straight toward "undo" button.

In regards to Grandmaster's comments above, employing relativism is not a way to go about solving this problem. No reliable sources have been provided to justify the inclusion of their names. Rather than removing those names and asking for some proof on their provenance, relevance and importance, the exact opposite has taken place.--Marshal Bagramyan (talk) 18:25, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

User you previously blocked

Hi, PMD. So, this guy, who you blocked in April for posting copyvios, appears to be doing the same thing again. I gather he believes that when he scans something, he becomes the copyright-holder of the resulting image, even though he has simply mechanically reproduced something whose copyright actually rests with whoever owns the content he has scanned. I encounter this odd belief a lot among new users, and it's usually an honest mistake. In this case, though, the user has already been previously blocked for this kind of behaviour, so he either hasn't bothered to read the explanation of why he got blocked or else he doesn't care. --Rrburke(talk) 03:22, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

persuading undeletion of article titled Xoriant

Mr. Girish Gaitonde, distinguished alumni of IIT-Bombay, India started an IT services company named Xoriant Solutions. With a NASSCOM membership, a Wiki page for Xoriant will be apt to support and provide information about various business processes, innovative solutions in various areas of Information Technology and Services beginning with those in Xoriant.

Since this company has been technologically supporting new ventures and startups from USA and Europe, this will serve to focus how local businesses have become international due to a simple website and how I.T. has helped the development and smooth functioning of even complex businesses in all their functions.

In due course this page would be refined and is intended to cover the newer developments and the IT industry trends globally. Various business processes, newer developments in the field of Open Source technology and the growth of Mobile application services which are set to revolutionize the set business standards.

Gino the Minnow

On 23 September you deleted Gino the Minnow per WP:CSD#G12 (copyvio). The article has now been recreated as a copy-paste, however I can't find any evidence of any discussion about deleting it, or indeed of the article that existed prior to the one you deleted (which was also a copy and paste job). It is also not evident from the log of where the infringed content was.

I would appreciate it therefore if you could comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Gino the Minnow and fill in any blanks you can.

Mildred Armstrong Kalish deletion

Hello, I am relatively new and started my first page from scratch today, on bestselling author Mildred Armstrong Kalish, which you deleted. I'm not sure why. I'm reading her book and looked for a wikipedia page about her, couldn't find one, and so started one. I didn't have time to make it complete, but I'm sure that others will add to it. I guess I could make it a little more complete if required to prevent deletion, or maybe I just have to mark it as a stub? Please advise. Thanks. LesterFreamon00 (talk) 06:35, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

8coupons

Hi PMDrive,

The Wiki on 8coupons had been repeatedly deleted for advert until in February you - very rightfully - locked the article in order to block all the marketing spam that kept being posted.

I'd like to request the block be lifted so I can post a genuine article. I didn't notice the article was blocked until I had already written the entire article, so you can see the Wiki I'd like to post on 8coupons on my user page (and you're welcome to make any edits).

Thanks for unlocking PMDrive! Do you mind if I ask a quick related question? How do you upload the company logo under the non-free use rational like HP's logo? There doesn't appear to be a licensing option for that - do you need to be an admin to do it?

No problem, and no big deal ultimately. Generally, once SUL went live and we started accepting unicode usernames on en.wiki, these random string of numbers things kinda went out the window. Username blocks should pretty much be preserved at this point to usernames that are too similar to an existing user (PMDrive2061, for example) or for blatantly inappropriate/offensive names. Hi PM, Can you help me with the page Valery Fedorenko? It was suggested today that it be deleted due to it not having references. This guy is a living legend, so I realize that it's wise to be cautious, but all the things talked about thus far are honorable statements. They are factual to my best ability, but some are not verifiable outside of showing Youtube videos from his performances 18 years ago for example. Why was virgin MOON entertainment deleted from the other listings of independent production companies. The post was not completed. There are no copyright violations, please enlighten me to the violations. Projects listed are projects produced by virgin MOON.

What is needed to be listed in Wikipedia?

RegiK Regik (talk) 12:55, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

First of all, the page was deleted as a clear copyright violation of this page. We cannot have copyrighted material on Wikipedia. Second, there was no assertion of notability in the article; we don't just have articles because someone wants to put one here; it must meet guidelines. Third, it must have citations from reliable sources that are independent of the subject, so the web site for the company would not qualify for that. Please read WP:CORP and WP:FIRST for more details.  Frank  |  talk  13:03, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi, PMDrive1061. My article “Teresa de la Cerda” was removed by you because ‘it appears to have copyrighted material’. However, this is just a text got from a Web site in Spanish and translated into English with authorization of Ms. Teresa de la Cerda.

Actually, I’m quite new in Wikipedia, so I would like to know how to write and publish any article/biography in Wikipedia, without it is considered copyright violation, promotion or advertising.

I would like to contribute in Wikipedia pages with actual and present topics, but I would like to avoid my articles be removed.

Your guidance will be highly appreciated.

Deleted page: Krondor: The Assassins

I hate to say this and point this out, but you used illegitimate criteria in your reason for deleting this article on the 19th of May, 2009. The "A7" criterion is only to be used for people, and not their books, to quote: "This criterion applies only to articles about web content and to articles about people, organizations, and individual animals themselves, not to articles about their books, albums, software, or other creative works."

I sorely doubt that the article was "patent nonsense, meaningless, or incomprehensible", as per the G1 criterion. Since I assume the latter two don't apply, let's focus on Wikipedia:PN, which states that patent nonsense is not to be confused with: "Fictional story material (characters, settings, events, etc. which are only interesting to fans)". Thus, the page should be restored. As both reasons are illegitimate and do not apply to the article upon which they were used.

Imperator Talk 12:40, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

In that case, it may be better recreating it from scratch. I might when I actually have time to do so, but thanks anyway for looking into it. :) Sorry for the bother.

Hi PMDrive1061,

I am admittedly new to adding things to Wikipedia and just put up a page on Waysun Liao, an author with whom I am familiar, who writes on the topics of Tao and Taichi under a noted publishing house.

Was wondering why the page was deleted?

Can you recommend how to approach such topics in the future?

No, i dont have an attitude. as i said, a guideline is to not destroy the house before it's been built. i never intended it to be two lines long, i was just getting started. judging by all the complaints on your talk page, you seem to go round wikipedia deleting articles that have just started, for no reason, and then accuse people of "copping an attitude", oh, and deleting their query from your own talk page like a kid. Eugene-elgato (talk) 00:50, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Sure thing, I have taken on board the fact that you would like me to have written more than two lines before I save anything, and that I will read all of the guidelines. However, I would like to ask you perhaps to not jump down my throat and tell me I have a chip on my shoulder. Please. Thank you. Eugene-elgato (talk) 01:00, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Forgive me then; it's just it's hard enough on this site when all we have is text and no body language to go by. It can get very tense. I will listen to what you have to say as an administrator next time! I will read those guidelines carefully before trying to make such an article again :) Eugene-elgato (talk) 01:04, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
OK, noted...I can see you've had to protect your page also. Actually it happens it may have been easier to deal with a fresh start because I really am new to this but if you've reactivated it then I'd have a go at doing it properly. Thank you Eugene-elgato (talk) 01:06, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

Astronomy 2009 entry

hi - I do regular Google searches and found a deleted entry for my project in Second Life, Astronomy 2009 island. I was surprised that you did not consult me before writing the article and getting correct or more detailed information. Additionally - it looks like the article was under immediate deletion by Wikipedia b/c it was considered a promotion/advertisement. I hope people don't think that we (my project) tried to do the shameless self-promotion by creating a Wikipedia page, b/c it was not us - it was you. IL Sparta

You were quite fast there, I must say... I didn't even have the time to contest the nomination. I created a redirect, since IL Sparta was the former name of the Norwegian ice hockey club Sparta Warriors. I can't see how you could delete this page under criteria "G1 - Patent nonsense" anyway? Could you please restore the redirect? Thanks. lil2mas (talk) 02:53, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

It really was a nonsense page which didn't say more than "Illinois Spartas" as I recall. You're certainly free to recreate the redirect.  :) --PMDrive1061 (talk) 03:00, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Seems like someone must have edited on my redirect, just seconds after I created it then. Because I'm sure I created a redirect, and "Illinois Spartas" makes no sense to me. You deleted the page only a minute afterwards, so its hard to tell what happened. Never mind, the redirect is back up again. Thanks a lot for your quick response. =) lil2mas (talk) 03:57, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Lawrance Daley

Hi... Yup, thanks for saving me yet another trip to CSI:Wikipedia. I saw the AFD for Night at the Museum 3 yesterday and although the article had been deleted, it had the ring of an Alexcas11 (talk · contribs) invention. I had been watching the Lawrance Daley (talk · contribs) account, and I was waiting for enough to go to SPI again, if needed. But the fake filmography edits and the fake movie articles were pretty duck-like. Cheers. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 02:23, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

(reply) Yeah, I think a lot of the articles are a sort of fanfic for Alexcas, but whatever the reason, he frequently does get through editing a lot of articles before someone notices, and leaves a lot to be cleaned up. Anyhoo, he will probably be back in a few days. I must have dozens of pages watchlisted but he is very obvious when he turns up. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 02:35, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
(reply #2) Ah, Bambifan, I am acquainted with his work all right. I was thinking of doing an LTA for Alexcas11, although I'm not sure he has quite got to that stage yet. I was wondering how many of the obvious gives to include in the SPI reports, but he hasn't really changed his style in the last couple of months, except I think he has become a bit more tentative in his first edits, possibly because he is waiting for someone (quite possibly me :)) to jump out and say "Boo!". Honestly, I think he will grow out of it. FlowerpotmaN·(t) 23:31, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Reason for deleting Liquid Stranger page

Hello,

I created a page about the electronic musician Liquid Stranger which you deleted. I am interested in knowing why it was deleted, so that I can make the appropriate changes. Please advice.

Hello again,

Thanks for your message.

I would really appreciate if the page could be restored. I put a lot of energy into the article, and I can assure you that it is not a "cut and paste" move.

I warmly welcome constructive critisicm/suggestions.

Hello yet again,

I noticed today that the pictures on the Liquid Stranger page are replaced by text/hyperlink (e.g. File:LIQUIDSTRANGER2.jpg) When I click on the link I get eh following message: The action you have requested is limited to Autoconfirmed users, Administrators, Confirmed users.

I know you are busy, but if you have time, would you be able to look into this and see what has gone wrong. I would really appreciate it. I am quite new to Wikipedia and I am trying to learn how to make better pages. I must have messed up the upload somehow.

Now that all of her other accounts and IPs are blocked, she's using her Cricket Communications again. Cleanup of banned users' edits

Most of the edits by the banned cheerleader meatpuppet have been removed, but I noticed that a somewhat constructive edit by the user remains in the Punta Gorda, Florida article. Policy says that it should be reverted as the user was banned. What's your opinion on the matter? Should that be reverted in acknowledgement of the banning policy, or should we ignore all rules with the edit being constructive? PCHS-NJROTC (Messages) 01:03, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of No size fits all

Hello, in regards to your speedy deletion of this article, the book is actually covered by ABC news here. If you looked at the edit history before you deleted, you could have seen that I removed an A1 speedy tag and stated that I found a reference. I was just about to add the information into the article, but then you deleted it. You seem to be very active in deleting articles that violate policy, which is a good thing, but sometimes you just rush it a bit. This is just a reminder to slow down when you're going on new page patrol, and sometimes give these potential A3 speediable articles a little chance to develop. By the way, could you please look through the deleted edit history and give me the user who tagged it as A1? I want to talk to him/her about trying to improve articles before tagging them for deletion. Thanks and keep up the good work, Fingerz 02:46, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Im sorry i shouldn't be writing here but i dont know how to write on this page. I'm cozzycovers and you deleted my page on a sex toy. I'm not trying to advertise it but and i realized that it sounded like an add. It was my first draft and i was going to make another one. The reason im putting up the page and the ONLY reason i want the page up is because of the NEW silicon in the sex toy, and in no way do i endorse the product. the silicon is truly new technology. Thats it. force protection's cougar gets a page it has a new v shaped hull that resists IED's. This new silicon is extra stretchy. Look at my other pages. They are not adds. I traveled all the way to Costa Rica to take photos of plant, one that has very few photos. I took the photos and added it to wiki, Solanum quitoense. I also made a page on Solanum verrogeneum. I'm writing about science. I'm putting up the page again but i need you go ahead! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cozzycovers (talkcontribs) 02:32, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Should I bother reporting to SPI just to see if there are any sleepers that have edited from this IP? --Rrburke(talk) 03:34, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Ugh. If 71.68.211.187 is BF101/Disney, then so is User:HorseGirl070605 and User:ChristianGirl2. I guess I can add them to the SPI report in case HorseGirl070605 and ChristianGirl2 edited from other IPs, which could be used to flush out more sleepers. You should never pull a trailing thread: the whole mess just unravels. --Rrburke(talk) 03:57, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I think I may have jumped the gun: when I pulled up the IP's edits, all besides those to Haylie Duff involved Disney Channel shows, so I just assumed. That may have been premature. --Rrburke(talk) 04:11, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

speedy

I see you deleted Evolution & Development one minute , literally, after it was started, as A3, no meaningful or substantial content, when it had the contents"Evolution and Development is an academic journal in the field of biology.". This may not have shown notability, but first of all it is not good to delete so quickly for such a reason, since the article may still be in the course of being written, and second, that is in any case meaningful content. It just needed more. Fortunately, the editor was experienced, and knew enough to persevere.

Similarly, all the way back when you became an admin, you deleted Tan (goat pattern) as no context at a point where the author had just put in the title and the category, 2 minutes after it was started. The context really is clear from the title and category, and the article was subsequently started again and developed. (n,o I did not check everything in between--just looking to see when you started, and saw the article was a bluelink)

I wonder, by the way, at the speed at which you are deleting articles. 2/minute doesn't really give time to check on things like that, and see if they;re worth preserving. And I find it hard myself to give adequate advice to newbies when I go at that rate. But I don;t mean to criticize you really, just point this out in a friendly way. Removal of Lambertr article

Hi, PMDrive1061 --

I want to follow up with you in regards to your speedy deletion of Lambertr's article yesterday. I believe it was called "Untitled, Bucket of Rocks," or something similar. I could not find a corresponding rational for your removal of this article other than it seems that the artwork did not fit your taste.

This article was about an artwork that is part of IUPUI's collection of public art and was made by Amber Lewis. Since the article is still visible on Lambetr's User page, I think it can clearly be seen that this article is reasonably well written, researched, and contextualized. Lambertr completed this work as part of a University assignment. If you want to know more about this project, please go here Wikipedia:WikiProject Wikipedia Saves Public Art!.

Through this project we were able to identify 40 public artworks on or around IUPUI's campus and make articles about each one (some are still in progress).

We have received a lot of positive attention from Wikipedians along the way; and a lot of help. One of the articles (Zephyr (sculpture))was listed on the Main Page under the DYK section yesterday! We've all been very pleased with how this project has developed both on line and back at the campus--we've been able to consider and care for a lot of sculptures that may have lost some of their contextualization over the years.

Unfortunately your attention was the most negative. I know that one of the current and most important issues with Wikipedia is the relationships between seasoned editors and new editors. I really don't think the speedy deletion of this article moved this issue in the right direction.

Will you help us by getting that article back up and then perhaps allowing it to go through a more formalized system of evaluation?

I think this would be a positive experience for everyone. If you are unwilling to do this, will you explain more fully your position on the WSPA! talk page? Kind regards --Richard McCoy (talk) 13:39, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Not likely, that ISP is Verizon which geolocates to New Jersey. He is mainly on Bellsouth in the Mobile AL pool. Momo san Gespräch 02:52, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. Abce2|If you would like to make a call.. 02:54, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Got another "maybe" here that popped up on an IP I issued a note to recently. The response is signed by User:Hellboy10, which comes up as a known BF101 sock, but the edit was made by the IP (66.63.88.209). I'll note this on Collectonian's page, too. --McDoobAU93 (talk) 14:33, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

This new IP Geolocates to Maine, since he did inappropriately sign using that name, it could be possible. That new IP was also blocked last month year too. Momo san Gespräch 15:17, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
The IP seems focused on Disney articles ... Collectonian thinks it could be another Disney vandal that likes to mimic BF101, and thus would be aware of BF101's socks. I'll keep an eye on it for now. --McDoobAU93 (talk) 15:21, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
Ok, sounds good then. Momo san Gespräch 15:24, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
