Extended confirmed protection edit

Hello, Zanimum. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Sara Hopkins edit

Why did you delete the plausible misspelling "Sara Hopkins" without going through WP:RFD? --Jax 0677 (talk) 00:26, 5 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Jax 0677: I can go through RFD if you'd like. Note, I'm preparing research to write about someone that meets notability with that name spelling. -- Zanimum (talk) 17:52, 5 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Invite to the African Destubathon edit

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African Paralympians, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:47, 5 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Palermo, Ontario edit

Hi,

Your addition at [[Palermo, Ontario] looks very out of place. There's no context or explanation as to why there is any significance to this farmer being an inhabitant of Palermo. I get that he the son of a notable individual, but this just looks like a line of trivia. CAn you explain why that was added? Thanks. -- Whpq (talk) 18:54, 5 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins edit

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers edit

Hi Zanimum/Archive 20/Archive 19.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Some odd deletions edit

Hi Zanimum. I appreciate your account is temporarily blocked at the moment, but I was looking at your deletion log and had a few questions/concerns. You've deleted a number of redirects with a reason of "needs to be an article" or similar, which doesn't seem to me to be a valid deletion reason; the couple I checked seemed to be reasonable redirects (Tom Hodgson and City of Vancouver Archives for example). There are also some pages like Bill Ridgeway that you deleted as a "cyclical link", which it wasn't; it just redirected to the relevant article. Another one I noticed was Richie Jayden-Rich, an AfC submission that you accepted as 'presumably meeting notability', before speedily deleting it as "No explanation of the subject's significance" 2 minutes later. This seems to be, at best, against the spirit of the process. There was also Sara Hopkins, which was also deleted out of process, and promptly restored for that reason. A couple of years ago you also protected an article ('Tis the Season) as being a highly visible template (?). None of this is particularly egregious, but I wanted to raise some concern that you should make sure to be making administrator actions within the agreed processes, leaving sensible deletion reasons. Sam Walton (talk) 23:05, 2 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Samwalton9: Hi! Just back (my account was hacked per Tech News 2016-47) and looking at things.
When I saw the Hodgson article, it was just an attack piece on the sexuality of a playwright with that name. I see at one point it was a redirect to Painters Eleven. I've just found the bio of Tom, and renamed that from Thomas to Tom as per his common name.
I deleted City of Vancouver Archives, as it was a redirect to the organization's founder, and I was attempting to encourage the creation of a stub. Since no one has taken the bait, I created a stub tonight.
Re: Ridgeway, that was bad wording of the situation. But with Manitoba Liberal Party leadership elections, his name was a link, which when you clicked on would just link back to the same article.
Not sure what was up with Richie, but I don't think it meets notability.
The Google Doodle was pointing to Tis the Season that day, making it highly visible. Not a template, but I was rushing to get it protected for a 24 period, and just chose what was most correct of the options, instead of taking the time to make a longer edit summary.
Hope that helps. -- Zanimum (talk) 01:22, 3 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Brittany Raymond edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Brittany Raymond requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. It was nothing personal. Editors are encouraged to remove unsourced edits. Wikipedia would be a mess without it. Not sure why it upset you so much. To prevent this in the future, please take a moment to read WP:REFB. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:29, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
You spent the morning going through my Contributions list, looking for things you could delete. Thus, you knew who made the edits. If you knew who made the edits, why didn't you take a second and ask whether I could provide references, something I couldn't do when I added the content on my mobile browser.
When you make a spree of edits targeting a specific user, that comes off 100% personal. -- Zanimum (talk) 05:07, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of The Mississauga Blob edit

The article The Mississauga Blob has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unencyclopedic. What is the rationale for keeping this article? It depicts a silly event that is not even noteworthy.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Use of revision deletion edit

Hi Zanimum, I find these two revisions deletions [49] [50] very questionable. The criteria you referred to applies only to mistakes in previous revision deletions not to mistakes made by administrators. Could you please reverse those two revision deletions? @Callanecc: Hi... I hate to admit, I don't even know what these messages mean. I "changed group membership"? Is this some sort of account permission, or something to do with an article? -- Zanimum (talk) 12:53, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on a biased choice of users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. Thank you. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of non-Canadian cities with a Canadian namesake, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Palestine (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

ArbCom 2017 election voter message edit

Hello, Zanimum. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited CBC Museum, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Juliette and Richard Harrington (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver).
