editIMHO, your uploaded image Robertscoble.jpg at 19:35, 31 August 2006 Zanimum vioalate Wikipedia:Verifiability rules are there is no way to validate your claim on licensing. This is clearly much worse that FairUse license used on original Robert Scoble.jpg. I feel that Robert able to upload images to his blog on his own and make it clear that thouse are public domain. TAG 20:42, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- There are, in fact, ways to verify this. Zanimum, could you forward the emails giving licensing permission to permissions@wikimedia.org? We'll file it and mark permission details as confirmed. Shimgray | talk | 00:41, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've forwarded the message. -- Zanimum 14:18, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. Not consider this personal attack - but emails are prone to forgery. But if Wikipedia is fine with thouse emails - I'm fine too. --TAG 17:13, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Good. Why would I want to forge permission for a low-level celebrity, though? -- Zanimum 17:31, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Headshot America Ferrera.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Headshot America Ferrera.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu Badali 21:13, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

On the subject
editYou took out a Trump picture from People of Greenwich, Connecticut, saying it wasn't on topic. You can't get more on topic than that. I'm restoring it. And that wasn't "commentary" in the caption, either.Noroton 16:44, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Commentary is anything that can be considered NPOV. What if I thought he was having a particularly good hair day? I would have a difference in opinion with something you are presenting as "fact". Fair use images should not be used in articles not about the creator of the fair use image (Trump Productions LLC/Mark Burnett Productions/NBC/Universal Music & Video Distribution), or an article dealing in depth with the subject of the image. Lists don't deal in depth. Saavy? -- Zanimum 17:03, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've just been reading up on the Fair Use page. The people article is not in depth, so you're right, it isn't fair use. I'll be removing some other pics there too. As for "bad hair day" that's fact, not opinion. You shouldn't try to be so literal on the policy.Noroton 17:11, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking the images off. No, trust me, I'm not being too literal of the NPOV policy, although I do appreciate humor. Ask on the Wikipedia:Help desk for a second opinion, if you wish. -- Zanimum 17:21, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'm a little upset. I'm killing off my babies on each of the "People in" pages I've created. It's a slaughterhouse.Noroton 17:25, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- It's okay, I'm sure I'd be too. However, there are some other people you could add into the article. The articles on Clyde Fitch, Roger Glover and Regis Philbin include free images you could use, plus there's a free image of Mel Gibson, if you don't mind embaressing Greenwich with the pic. -- Zanimum 17:51, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Canadian Wikipedians
editHello Nick. I have been wondering how these Canadians keep in contact, throug email, IRC or other means. I am mostly isolated from fellow Canadians until that meeting on August 16. BTW, how Wikimedia Canada is progressing? Thanx for your concern. I.H.S.V. (talk) 04:32, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hi! Other than the RL meetup, there's not really that much organized comradery among Canucks like us. I personally don't email people too often, it almost always "task oriented" chatter. I know Amigne in Vancouver has chatted with numerous Wikipedians over the phone, to get to know them better. AFAIK, he's the primary press contact these days, if the media contacts the Foundation.
- Wikimedia Canada's pretty much dead. There's tons of interest, but only one or two people with the existing expertise and willingness to draft a non-profit organization charter. That's the main bump, and there's little point pursuing until we've fulfilled that.
- I could investigate setting up an IRC forum at wikimedia-ca, pre-foundation. Do you think that would be well used?
- You went to the meet-up, did you? How was it? -- Zanimum 14:44, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry to hear the news about Wikimedia Canada. The meetup was just a 20 minutes gathering of 3 people: myself, Josh and his friend. I left before knowing if Dhodges arrived as mentioned. BTW How well do Wikimedia and its projects integrate within the Greater Torontonian (or Canadian, in the broader sense) community? not much integration at large IMO. Expanding local influence shall be a long term goal. Professionals usually don't offer much help until the benefits are appealling (but I believe there are still kind and helpful experts out there). A designated IRC channel shall be worth trying but IMO its usefulness is suspect at present. Why creating a new English channel while the normal wikipedia IRC would preform as well? Canadian Wikipedians need better connections with each other, whether it is in IRC or newsgroups. Condolences to the victims of the Dawson College shooting (talk) 10:38, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
- I just read your unofficial bid for Wikimania 2008 in Toronto; Well, we need more help if it is reaching fruition :). How about starting a string of discussion in the mailing list for creating a designated mailing list for Canadian chatter. IMO, Wikipedians in Canada need to know each other more before striving for success together. Plz correct me if I am wrong. Fair use rationale for Image:Dawson assailant's gun.jpg
editThanks for uploading Image:Dawson assailant's gun.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Thanks for the info. I see that you have added the Ref tags to the article already. Many thanks!!! -- Chris 73 | Talk
I'm talking about this: first of all, an admin should not use his special powers against non-vandalism. Secondly, if one reverts another person who is not a vandal, one should at least write a note mentioning the reason of the reversion.
Thirdly, there are some rules of style in Wikipedia, see: WP:MoS, which includes the way how the "External links" heading should look like. I'm confident that you won't find a thing like "End material" in there. Wikipedia is not supposed to have each article with its own style, but to be a homogenous work. If you disagree with the current style, please discuss it in there in order to be changed all over Wikipedia, but don't make the changes just to a few articles.

Oscar photographer
editNicholas-
I e-mailed him this morning and he does seem interested and IMO would be the perfect candidate. He is a little picky about the rights to his work, though I made it clear that any work he would do on this assignment would end up under one of the various free content licences. However, would it be possible for him to e-mail you his 4 samples instead of uploading them to a wiki? My email address at gmail is the same as my user id here; please mail me and I will put you in touch with him. Thanks- Jonathan. Jleybov 22:23, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Need help
editHello, Im not a wiki guru by any means but for the last 8 months have been being "wiki stalked", having personal information such as name, address, and other information posted by a user on wikipedia. This person has constantly called me by names and written very libelous information hoping they will be search engine spidered and picked up.
the user is Cumberbund which I can assure you will show up here. He reverts ANY edit I make to any article in Wikipedia and if I change it back he logs onto what any rational person would consider a sock puppet under the username of Pia_L
These 2 have been literally following me around wikipedia deleting pages, deleting my edits, even wikipedia articles that are personally known to me. Either out of spite, jealousy who knows, it has gotten to the point I'm about to go to La and commit a felony, I KNOW who this person is, they do it for FUN. I need some form of action taken against them, it's hard not to murder a 14 year old idiot on wikipedia that thinks they are having fun for no reason at all except to screw with someone.
This needs to end or I will totaly end it personally face to face. This person is a writer, they know how to make anyone look bad, they could wreite about God and make a person hate him. Admins have taken my side as well as theres. Can you please do some kind of check user thing so this person can finally be banned from wikipedia.
The users are:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Pia_L
Please read this to see about Pia_L and how User Cumberbund comes to her rescue, the funny thing is, when Pia is in trouble, Cumberbund comes to the rescue and when Cumberbund is in trouble, Pia is right there.
and
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Cumberbund
Cumberbund's account was made SOLEY for the purpose of harrassment and to revert ANY edit I make ANYWHERE on wikipedia. Look at ALL of his contributions. I have no doubt he will be here within the day, or Pia will.
Please read Cumberbunds talk page titled "== Troll postings, a letter to Admin Redvers =="

Sesame Street (Northern Ireland)
editI recommend you mention this in Sesame Street for now and recreate the article when the show goes into production. ~ trialsanderrors 18:59, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

- I don't doubt it, but "we don't know yet" isn't really much of an article. But your redirect was a better idea than my prod, should be easy to reestablish once there's more info. ~ trialsanderrors
Orphaned fair use image (Image:Official headshot lance bass.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:Official headshot lance bass.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

Raj Sharda
editThe official website (if it is) of Raj Sharda that was just added says he was a past councillor, but the election results for Oakville at [4] say otherwise. I suppose we can't remove a link to an official website simply because it contains lies, can we? Or am I missing something--could a candidate really lie like that? └ OzLawyer / talk ┐ 18:24, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- Raj's full name is "Rajneesh Kumar Sharda", from my research. That's quite weird though that the Oakville website doesn't mention him. According to The Public Appointments Secretariat, he did hold those positions, so it's a widespread lie. I've explained to him by email that he needs to source his statements. He will be doing an interview with Wikinews "by the end of the week", so he claims. Frankly I don't know what to think. -- Zanimum 19:31, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, I'm contacting the Oakville town clerk to ask about Sharda. Note that searching the Halton site doesn't find him, and the Oakville official site has some references to him, but one of them is this dialog:
- Cathie Best, Town Clerk: Mr. Raj Sharda.
- Mayor Ann Mulvale: I don’t see Mr. Sharda either.
- CB: Nor do I.
- Further skin off his story... at some consultation, he said "I’m glad I’m not on the other side of this bench. So... I don’t have a lot of expertise to express to you guys."[5] Thus on February 27, 2002 he was not a councillor, and he didn't even think he had a lot of merit talking. Mayor Mulvale then says "thank you for joining us", as if his precence was unusual. -- Zanimum 19:54, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, now on the "Testimonials" page of his site, he has a quote about him from a tribute "to retiring Council members". -- Zanimum 20:01, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

editYes, I would accept one. I had a conversation with Master Jay back in August about adminship and he offered to nominate me, but I asked for it to be held off until I got my name a little better known. - The user has been blocked indefinitely as a very strongly suspected sockpuppet of User:WikiWoo (a checkuser is pending). However, I was wondering if you could do something to put him in his place. He claims that this article: "Election campaign under way", The Brampton Guardian, Brampton: Metroland Newspapers, 4 October 2006. is a fabrication by you. I know it's a bit of work for a banned user, but if you have the article around, is there any way you could scan it and show him that it does, in fact, exist? └ OzLawyer / talk ┐ 21:07, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

- The user has been blocked indefinitely as a very strongly suspected sockpuppet of User:WikiWoo (a checkuser is pending). However, I was wondering if you could do something to put him in his place. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Jon and george.jpg)
editThanks for uploading Image:Jon and george.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr.) 19:27, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, Nick!
editThank you for your sort-of nomination and your support in my RfA, which passed with a final tally of (56/0/2). It was great to see so much kind support from such competent editors and administrators as commented on my RfA, and I'm particularly thankful for your encouragement to start the process.
I know I have much reading to do before I'll feel comfortable enough to use some of the more powerful admin tools, so I'll get right to it.
