Roads opened in <year> categories
Just a quick thought, and I don't know if you considered this already, but some roads were open to traffic under other names or designations before their last designation. As an example, M-553 (Michigan highway) was designated in 1998, but as a roadway, CR 553 existed at least by 1936. (It could be older, but I don't have an exact timeframe narrowed down yet.) That's why I've never bothered with dealing with those "Roads opened in <year>" categories. Just food for thought... Imzadi 1979 → 21:55, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Interstate 39 was overlaid on top of US 51 and other highways, so it wasn't "opened" in 1984, just initially designated. If the categories were "Highways designated in <year>", then it would be a lot easier to pin these down, but instead it's "opened", which raises other issues. Hallo, I came across this while stub-sorting and nominated it for Speedy Deletion A-7 as being a website with no assertion of notability. But I notice that you had tagged it with no less than eleven tags, including both {{unreferenced}} and {{refimprove}}, and using {{cleanup}} without a "Reason=" parameter, which it needs. Please do not assign so many tags to an 88-word stub: stick to the main points (notability, unreferenced, deadend, advert would have been plenty). - If I can't perform any of the above edits, what can I do here? I keep getting every door shut -- no, slammed -- in my face. I am getting extremely upset and almost fed up with this. I am trying to help make Wikipedia a better site, but I am told, "No, no, no" all the time. Is there any easy-type edits that I can do? Also, why is my HotCat not working? - Take a look at User_talk:Morriswa/Archives/2012/April#Some_useful_tasks_for_USRD. We have told you over and over again what you can do; I know Imzadi1979 has written pages and pages of advice for you. You don't have to be an article writer; but obsessing over categorization is generally frowned upon. Others not involved with the roads projects have tried to help you (adoption? getting sources for you?) but you have not responded.
- Writing an encyclopedia is hard work. If you don't want to write articles, there are other things, such as new page patrol, vandalism patrol, copyediting, generating images, voting in AFDs, making KMLs, editing images, etc. that you can take part in. But if you're looking for something "easy" to do, you're going at it with the wrong attitude.

- Well, categorization is a simple way (especially if my HotCat gadget would actually work) to edit. I didn't think I was "obsessing".
- It's not that I don't want to write articles. I just don't really know how (not entirely true, but I don't know what to put in them, and I don't know how to do even simple research). I could try to find out how to patrol new pages, and patrol for vandalism. I think I already know how to copyedit. I don't know how to generate images, make KMLs, or edit images.
- I apologize for sounding angry. It was because I am. I want to help, especially with the road-related articles, but I am hitting so many dead ends and closed doors, that I am getting frustrated.

M-553 (Michigan highway) was pushed through ACR earlier this year, but I wouldn't nominate it at FAC until I had some more photos of it. The other night, I had a chance, so I drove out to take some photos. Good articles in general (be it a GA, an A or an FA) need photographs or other media to help illustrate them. You could even take video clips of highways too. Don't limit yourself to just photographing GAs, as every article should have some photos.
- Do you have a copy of Google Earth? If not, can you download it? The Maps Department has a tutorial on how to trace a roadway to make a KML. It's not that hard to do, but it can take a little time to make each one. Once you do a one or two, you'll get the hang of it. We have hundreds of upper-tier articles that need KMLs.
- I've given you other suggestions in the past like watching the new article listing to see if there are new articles in the USRD, CRWP or HWY scopes that need to be tagged and assessed. I also will sweep through them and apply some basic formatting fixes... we have ACRs that need review comments, AfDs that pop up on WP:USRD/AA... there's plenty that can be done. - Well, categorization is a simple way (especially if my HotCat gadget would actually work) to edit. I didn't think I was "obsessing".
- If I can't perform any of the above edits, what can I do here? I keep getting every door shut -- no, slammed -- in my face. I am getting extremely upset and almost fed up with this. I am trying to help make Wikipedia a better site, but I am told, "No, no, no" all the time. Is there any easy-type edits that I can do? Also, why is my HotCat not working?
