List of Coups Talk page removal

A one-sentence slight criticism of WP or its editors is not soapboxing, contrary to your your Talk page removal edit. A new editor who went through the effort to create an account rather than remain an IP gets some further leeway. SamuelRiv (talk) 05:05, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

One sentence that has no relation to the page and is meant only to sow discord is a textbook definition of soapboxing. Do not use the talk page as a forum for discussing the topic, nor as a soapbox for promoting your views, no minimum length or "level of criticism" required. I remove comments like this from contentious talk pages all the time and will continue to. I can understand you disagreeing with this, but I cannot understand why you think it would be a good idea to restore it. And Deuceboise is not a "new" account, just an infrequently used one that has demonstrated bad talk page behavior before. Know that Wikipedia is unbiased and objective, we're not here to pick sides, just present facts - this is a fact and it is factually on the docket. That is actually the cited court case, not a personal opinion. Again, I just cite facts. You could've checked the citations. It's written write in the "complaint" filed to the federal court. What do you want me to write, actual lies? Or just reword what was actually filed? It's a direct quotation of the document. What would you write? Maybe I'm missing something here. So it is not "undue weight", I cited the court docket and directly cited the complaint filed to the federal court. What constitutes being DUE to include, so I can improve here as an editor? Psychologist Guy, I know who the IP is. I had a brief chat with DanielRigal about it last month. User_talk:Muboshgu/Archive_55#Dealing_with_WP:LTA/BTSZ. He said not to leave edit summaries that are supportive when restoring them. BTSZ may be behaviorally problematic, but the content of the edits I restored were improvements to the pages. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:39, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

I see what you are saying. Unfortunately I have received on and off-site harassment from this individual. The user spent nearly 2 years stalking my edits. Basically within a few hours of me editing an article he would go to it and make minor changes to prove a point. This was an issue that was happening every few weeks for nearly 2 years, so not a one off thing. I had to put up with that. I had to file many SPI investigations which wasted hours of my editing time. I spoke to the WMF and they apologized, this individual is a serious harasser. I realize this individual may occasionally make improvements to articles like fixing minor spelling mistakes or dates but this individual is not interested in improving articles at the end of the day, it is about proving a point. When they next log in on their proxy in the next 48 hours they will obviously see their edits have been restored and that I have been reverted and they will see this as a victory. Help

I’m wondering if you could look into the recent edits of user @ Magnolia677 . They continuously remove bulk amounts of Articles for reason “unsourced content” When in reality it would take 30 seconds to find a reliable source for the information they’re deleting. It seems a disservice to Wikipedia as a whole. They could very well just as easy provide a “citation needed” box after the information that they’re erasing. Examples are here:

Fani Willis

Responding to your comment on my talk page, you said my inclusion had POV issues. Can you elaborate? I included the basic, stated-in-their-own-words details reported in RS: Willis hired Nathan Wade as lead special prosecutor. Wade had little prosecutorial experience and was paid >$650,000. And bank records showed Wade took Willis on trips. Every single one of these points is exhaustively sourced to multiple different RS. I reported the allegations of an improper relationship by only including strictly procedural and investigatory circumstances, such as the court hearing, the audit committee chair's pledged investigation, and the subpoena. Every single one of these is sourced to multiple different RS. To maintain NPOV, I mentioned the parts where Fani Willis pushed back, namely the subpoena, which she alleges is interference to the election case. Every single point here is sourced to multiple different RS. Willis does not deny having an affair with Wade nor has she denied the legitimacy of the bank records. This is just incorrect. The prosecutorial experience? That's something stated by the Washington Post and the Associated Press based on his resume and work experience. $650k+ in payments? County records per aforementioned WaPo article.

These and all the other points are stated in parallel to how the cited RS state it. The allegation is an improper relationship. This is presented as an allegation. The trips are presented as being linked to the bank records, which is how the multitude of RS I cited in my diff present it. They present this as evidence, not some "allegation." Your entire edit is dripping with bias. They "pledged to pursue" an investigation of the allegations. Willis "sought to quash" the subpoena and accused Wade's wife. This is not a neutral edit on its tone, beyond the fact that a lot of it is based on hearsay that hasn't gotten argued in court yet.

I respectfully request an update to the format of the content by this editor in place of a full deletion of the newly added content on the Third Way page regarding the blocking of third party ballot access. Semafor is a reliable neutral source with an audio recording and quotes of a conversation which serve as evidence of Third Way behavior; Semafor is founded and staffed by well-established journalists with a record of transparency and neutrality in its coverage. I have written a paragraph detailing the issues with Amy Klobuchar, who was the Hennepin County Attorney at the time, based on accurate news sources. Although the first edit did not include citation footnotes, I have included them in the second and third updates. Despite this, you persistently delete it. What exactly is being deemed as inaccurately sourced? The news pages I have quoted from are https://www.minnpost.com/public-safety/2023/12/hennepin-county-attorney-egregious-prosecution-of-marvin-haynes-in-minneapolis-murder-should-never-have-happened/ and https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/marvin-haynes-conviction-for-2004-minneapolis-flower-shop-murder-overturned/, which clearly reveal that Amy Klobuchar was the Hennepin County Attorney at the time, held responsibility for this prosecution, and yet, she has not offered a single apology. PenmanWarrior, that NY Times piece from yesterday would add to her argument for passing WP:GNG, but I cannot tell how much as it is behind a paywall and I am not a subscriber. However, the consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michele Evans appears to be overwhelming and I doubt one new piece will change that. Since the draft is basically identical to the deleted article, save for a sentence or two based on that new NYT article, I think it would be inappropriate to accept the draft. The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

The source is here, in this article, which discusses an issue of earmarks being sent to lawmakers spouses, including Crow's. Hi Muboshgu. I've seen editors blocked for less, but I knew this would come back as 'a feed the troll', and/or 'potential edit war', but I took the chance anyway, hoping wrong edits would have been stopped. Two other editors @Yankees10 and @Larry Hockett reverted the mess and 'it is' correct to have former there. Call me stupid for trying to shed light on a vandal and have a page look better. All I wanted was a reason. The IP reverted it again and the revision history page became a mess. You're saying that if a vandal does this long enough, he wins? No block and the wrong format stays on a page? I can't wrap my head around that one. Guaranteed the same person is using two different IP's hating the word former. The reason I'm getting a bit unsettled here, it's not you, on two different occasions I was warned for an edit war when I was actually removing vandalism (multiple times and pages). Bringingthewood, this has been going on for some time. Page protections and IP blocks have not stopped it before, they will only hold it off for a short time if we continue down this road. Admins try to use the least restrictive means for problems like this, and edit warring over the word "former" is a candidate for Wikipedia:Lamest edit wars. If it continues today, I'll block IPs, but I think it would be better to just leave the word "former" out and let the page be unprotected. – Muboshgu (talk) 17:50, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Looks like the IP range has since been blocked for 2 years (after a series of earlier blocks). The thing that makes "former" a bit special is that it's specifically recommended at MOS:BLPTENSE:

If a person is living but has retired, use is a former or is a retired rather than the past tense was.

AFAICS, the IPs they've used in the past years have all been in a specific region and are static, so blocks won't cause much collateral damage, in this case. My take on WP:DENY was that we're not suppose to get excited about it. But it does stil suggest to quietly revert or blank. (and block?).—Bagumba (talk) 19:30, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Maybe AP 499D25 can help. If you check my talk page, a range block was put in motion after I had problems with several IP's. Sounds familiar yes, but I know it could be done. G3Tr1Gh7, you linked to WP:FANDOM pages. Fandom is a wiki, meaning it can be edited by anybody, and is therefore not a reliable source. Also you should add references as references, with <ref>...</ref> formatting, not inserting them as though they are wikilinks. Also I think you're adding a level of detail that is more useful on a fan site, like Fandom, than Wikipedia.

How do I merge a NFL player's infobox into their rugby info box if a NFL player was a rugby player who joined the NFL through their IPPP program? ReallyAmazingDude13, change the main (highest level) infobox to {{Infobox person}}, then use the |module= parameter to embed the first specific infobox, either the rugby one or American football one (adding |embed=yes to it), and then |module2= to the main infobox and the second specific infobox goes there. Same type of edits to their userpages, and the same summary when adding hoaxes to deaths in 2024 ("I added (alive guy)" using sources anyone can edit). transaction question

Hey... I've been having a dispute with another editor regarding transactions.. Every time a player gets dfad he adds the player who replaces them on the roster.. such as with Nabil Crismatt.. he added "was designated for assignment the following day after the promotion of Dinelson Lamet"... my issue with this is that players are DFAd before the new player gets added not after... and I don't think Lamet is important to Crismatt's article.. as he was called up for one game to provide length and was sent out cause he wouldn't be available for a few days and they needed a new arm.. it wasn't about Lamet.. I try to fix these articles so they aren't just transaction porn... but this is a common issue with this particular editor... what do you think about this issue? should I just let it be? Good question. It's sort of relevant, but sort of not at the same time? I generally don't add the player in the corresponding transaction. It definitely shouldn't be in a page where the player keeps getting called up and sent down repeatedly as then it would get overloaded. – Muboshgu (talk) 22:54, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

Question involving plagiarism

I see that you're an experienced editor and I wanted some advice if it isn't any trouble. I believe I may have found plagiarism in the "Oil spill" article. I believe it was copied from this page: http://oils.gpa.unep.org/facts/wildlife.htm.

Here's a side-by-side to demonstrate. The page on Wikipedia: "There is no clear relationship between the amount of oil in the aquatic environment and the likely impact on biodiversity. A smaller spill at the wrong time/wrong season and in a sensitive environment may prove much more harmful than a larger spill at another time of the year in another or even the same environment."

And the website in question: "There is no clear relationship between the amount of oil in the marine environment and the likely impact on wildlife. What should I do? Should I remove it myself, or put a message on a particular noticeboard...?

Professor Penguino, I say first thing to do is go through the article history to see who wrote the content in the wiki page. There's tools like WikiBlame that can help. Question is, did our page come first and UNEP set up a WP:MIRROR? I doubt it. If it is a copyvio, then slap {{copyvio}} on the page and one of our top copyright experts will be on it. Will120, I just Googled "Grady Sizemore race" and found this article that says he's mixed race. I had no idea. And his page said nothing about it. And that's what we have to fix. The article needs to have sourced content that verifies that he has African American heritage before we categorize him that way.
