Your alternate user page

Don't you think people would be freaked out to see a big red X on their own user page? I must admit, that might make an interesting idea for a template. mechamind90 23:49, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Pardon? I'm not catching what you mean...  fetchcomms 00:12, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Okay, maybe I was leaning away from what I initially meant. Perhaps the Stop Sign style box that I included with my first message (the original one) is a little big compared to the "power button". It could easily be mistaken for vandalism, so I suggest putting it in a template "window" (any color) to make it look less scary. ...As for the template that I mentioned, a little off topic from the talk page, but it would probably work for the "Only Warning" messages in place of the current stop sign with a hand on it. mechamind90 02:41, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
I see what you mean now.  fetchcomms 02:47, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

In regards to the Alchemy Gothic logo I suggested, no I guess I can't say that I am the original author of the logo. But then how can company's logos get posted for their pages here?

Why aren't you an admin? Can I nominate you for adminship? NerdyScienceDude :) (✉ click to talkmy editssign) 02:19, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Similar to Marek69's response. I have relatively little experience to what is desired, do not participate in many discussions (particularly those concerning policy, etc.), have been active only a short time, and have no real need for the tools currently. It's kind of you to offer, but I doubt I would pass, and I wouldn't have much use with the extra buttons even if I did pass. Regards,  fetchcomms 02:25, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
In addition, after seeing your offer to Coldplay Expert, you might want to read over WP:ADMIN. Administrators need more than just a few DYKs and some Huggle work. (Please don't misunderstand—Coldplay Expert is starting to become really a better user, but an RfA is not just "Oh, this user has done some nice work".)  fetchcomms 05:23, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

IFU or FFU

Hi Fetchcomms, it is great that you are working on files for upload. A few weeks back I seemed to be the only one working here! When you create a file, can you add the project tagging to the talk page: {{WPAFC}} this will tag to the afc project. Hopefully the bot will come along and and the user and date to keep track of what is happening with the AFC project. There are some extra parameters, but too hard for me to remember, but the bot may fix up. Also if there is a free image that succeeds, there is a box up the top that you can add the successful uploads too. Don't add in the fair use ones, only the free images. Keep on plugging away at the FFU, you are doing a good job here! Thankyou! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:59, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Ah, thanks for telling me. Actually, I think The Earwig dislikes having to run his bot for that, but he does it because he's nice anyhow ;). I'll try to remember about adding the banners and the images into the gallery, but hopefully Tim Song can add FFU to his great script and let it add them automatically! Thanks again,  fetchcomms 19:54, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Strange unicode

Hi again

On your user page you have ⚐ and ⏎ which do not display on my machine, what do you do do to get these unicodes? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:18, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

I'm not sure, I know Google Chrome does not support the symbols though, but I use Firefox. I found them while looking a list of unicode symbols somewhere on-wiki, actually. There's probably some way to get them, but I'm not sure.  fetchcomms 19:54, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Academy Awards

Thank you for your input on my List of Academy Award winning families page. It was suggested to me that I add references to the page to substantiate the award counts. Since there's no standard template for citing these awards in Wikipedia, I couldn't construct standardized links there, so I chose IMDB. I would have preferred the Oscars.Org database, but that page is a dynamic interface - you can't set a web address for an individual. --Klantry01 (talk) 17:43, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

The issue is, IMDB is an unreliable source. It is almost like a wiki that anyone can edit and change information. If possible, could you find a book about the awards, or a magazine/news article? That would probably be best.  fetchcomms 22:26, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Would a catch-all reference to the Oscars.org database - maintained by the academy itself - be acceptable? The info is definitive, it just isn't maintained in a way that lends itself to automatically bringing up the awards list for each individual. --Klantry01 (talk) 04:48, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism

"Please do not vandalize pages, as you did with this edit to Men of Power : Court intrigue in the life of Catherine Howard (book). If you continue to do so, you will be blocked from editing." I understand your concern; but how then does one entirely remove a page your editors obviously aren't going to allow to be published? I suggest using a client like Pidgin, Chatzilla, Xchat, or mIRC which should allow you do to the same. There is no connection from IRC to the tool itself, however. Firstly, welcome again! A few things: Don't quote the overview, summarize the book in your own words. Quotes should be used only when needed, really. Also, you don't need to include the whole table of contents--Wikipedia is not a directory. it's probably best to just add a short summary of what each major section covers. You should also format your external links at the bottom like: [http://google.com Google home page], which creates Google home page.I must say, good work with the image uploading and fair use rationales! One last thing, leave new message sections at the bottom of a talk page. In any case, good work for a first article. Regards,  fetchcomms 15:47, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

About this

I asked Darrell Smith to send his permission to the wiki staff days ago; could I upload a picture now? I'm a little confused. :/ Thanks!

(Your user and talk page are damn great -do you work on other wikis as well?) Jargon ๏̯͡๏) 00:05, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

They should email you back, I do not know what they are doing because I am not one of the team members. On another note, please do not use a template as your signature. Signatures should only go in the preferences, they should not be substituted or transcluded through a template.  fetchcomms 00:10, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Oops. The sig rule seems to change depending on the wiki(a).. I usually use a subst template because I find the code of signatures to be quite annoying. Anyhow, this is how it should look like, right?
About the team, I think I'll have to contact it myself.. --Jargon ๏̯͡๏) 00:20, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, just copy the code you currently use over into the preferences window and make sure the check the little box below as well.  fetchcomms 00:23, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks again. --Jargon ๏̯͡๏) 00:38, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Re archiving

Hi. I still have a question about how archiving is done (I find the help page unhelpful), and wonder if you could be to me at User talk:J. Johnson#Need assistance archiving. Thanks. - J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 20:26, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Ah! The light of understanding now gleams through the murk! Thanks for your kind assistance. - J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 22:25, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

3D Custom Girl article for deletion

Hey, it's about me, about my article that was proposed for deletion. And the reason you wrote was because you didn't find significant coverage for the game and on Google, there are lots of torrents and downloads. Well, I think it's kinda unfair, because if you do search almost any game on Google, earlier or later, you will find a torrent download link or a download related site. And I guess that there are game articles on Wikipedia that, maybe, people find even less coverage for it. So, I think that it's a bit unfair.

Nytrogod (talk) 23:39, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Many games are covered by independent reliable sources. That is what is needed, a lot of games have been featured in professional reviews or major gaming magazines. Also, if you see a game article on Wikipedia that you think is not notable, feel free to nominate it for deletion as well.  fetchcomms 00:21, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

POTD scheduling

Thanks for your recent help with the POTD scheduling. A small request: Please try not to jump the queue. I was still in the middle of Wikipedia:Featured pictures thumbs 17 and the one you just picked was in group 19, so it's a little early. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 16:18, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Ah, sorry! I was trying to figure out exactly which one it was in and I saw a few before that seemed to have been around there. I'll try to keep up better, thanks.  fetchcomms 19:04, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Photo uploads

I sent the original email to the permissions-en@wikipedia.org. Is there anything else that needs to be done? {Cmguy777 (talk) 03:03, 30 March 2010 (UTC)}

You still need to specify the license (Creative Commons, public domain, etc.), and tag it as {{otrs pending}} to avoid further confusion. Thanks,  fetchcomms 14:39, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Pictures

Hey, so you have just flagged like all of the pics I've ever uploaded. I own the copyright and know the author of each pic ect. and really don't know what else to do. Can you please help me out and tell me exactly what seems to be the problem. Thanks. Dsgschwaeder (talk) 17:09, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Because all the work is "copyright by Dubelyoo, LLC", you need to provide proof that you own the copyright and agree to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License. To do so, please email our OTRS team with instructions at this example. Please add the code {{otrs pending}} to all the images you uploaded as well, and when permission is confirmed, these will be changed by the OTRS team member handling it.  fetchcomms 20:33, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Goats

Re. Talk:William_Windsor_(goat)/GA1#Comments

I've added stuff; please check back. Sorry for delay.

Lawks, your talk page is a bit huge. Want me to set up auto-archiving? Let me know if so. If you want to do it your own way, manually, that's fine though. Just a thought.  Chzz  ►  18:40, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, taking a look at it. I prefer manual archiving (I do it once a month) because... I don't know, heh. Also means I don't get the new messages banner after a bot archive! Regards,  fetchcomms 20:35, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Yup, fair enough. Mine is just so insane. Misza archives on 200 hours; I cleared almost all manually, yesterday, and as of now, it's back to hugeness. Meh. Speak later?  Chzz  ►  20:40, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, also check the GA page, left a few more notes there.  fetchcomms 20:50, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
Onto it; should fix in next few hours, cheers.  Chzz  ►  20:53, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
I've re-worked it quite a bit, hopefully addressing the GAR concerns. Let me know what you think.  Chzz  ►  13:27, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Tom Farrage (Fabricator/Craftsman)

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Tom Farrage (Fabricator/Craftsman). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tom Farrage (Fabricator/Craftsman). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:14, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

WikiCup 2010 March newsletter

We're half way through round two, and everything is running smoothly. Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) leads overall with 650 points this round, and heads pool B. New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) currently leads pool C, dubbed the "Group of Death", which has a only a single contestant yet to score this round (the fewest of any group), as well five contestants over 100 points (the most). With a month still to go, as well as 16 wildcard places, everything is still to play for. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.

Although unrelated to the WikiCup, April sees a Good Article Nominations backlog elimination drive, formulated as a friendly competition with small awards, as the Cup is. Several WikiCup contestants and judges have already signed up, but regular reviewers and those who hope to do more reviewing are more than welcome to join at the drive page. If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. proposed entry for Boston Camerata

Hello I added footnotes as requested, is there something else I need to do? Thank you.

OK sources made as per your request into footnotes. Wow, this is pretty technical and not easy :-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.163.173.56 (talk) 03:46, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

68.163.173.56 (talk) 01:19, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

You still have a list of sources at the bottom, can you make all of them footnotes please?  fetchcomms 02:03, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Created! At Boston Camerata. I know it is a bit technical, but it looks very nice and if you have additional sources, please do not hesitate to expand it with the info using the same citing method. Regards,  fetchcomms 17:08, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

help needed in verification

Hi Fetchcomms, I've been trying to write an article on Juha Hemánus, a Finnish theater and opera director, and I'd love to meet your requirements, but to get inline citations from (other) reliable sources than just the director himself and his own files and memory seems to be impossible at this stage cause most of the shows are already a bit older and there just isn't data banks from all these theaters and operas online from which to verify. However, in the Finnish wiki there is a Finnish version of the same article, http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juha_Hemanus - perhaps the Finnish wiki editors know how to help and verify (they did help edit that version and it passed and was published)? Do you know how to contact them? I don't. Please let me know what I can do to help. All best, nanook190 at ningboyz@gmail.com

Unfortunately, all articles on the English Wikipedia require significant coverage in reliable secondary sources. If this is not online, is there coverage in print material as well? This is needed to establish his notability and verify the information. not sure how the Finnish Wikipedia works, but all articles really should be sourced well. I do not know Finnish, so I am afraid I cannot help with contacting them, although if you know the language, you should ask at their user talk page like you did here. In addition, no need to give out emails, as I respond directly here.  fetchcomms 16:31, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. I've deleted the article and when I get time will revisit it.Ngatimozart (talk) 22:40, 1 April 2010 (UTC)ngatimozrt

Help!

Hi. I'm Brian Overton. Everyone keeps saying that Mr. Mischief's from 1978, not 1972. I don't know why. I could get some proof by uploading a picture of the page after the final illustration and the Are your sure? page, but i'm not allowed to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.44.119.71 (talk) 15:10, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

What exactly are you talking about? I'm not sure what/who Mr. Mischief is. In any case, you need a reliable source to verify--books, magazines, news articles, etc.  fetchcomms 16:33, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Well, Mr. Mischief is a Mr. Men. There's more Mr. Men and there's a spinoff, named Little Miss. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.44.119.71 (talk) 22:18, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I really have no clue what you are talking about. Proof should be made with a reliable source, as mentioned above.  fetchcomms 22:20, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the revert on my user page. =) -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 22:06, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Well, the artwork has photos on both www.myspace.com/colinfrangicetto and at http://theunconsciouscollective.bigcartel.com.

Furthermore, this photo comes from a public video.

Will that work? It's a shame that his page doesn't have a picture.

Is there an image of the painting by itself? That might be better to claim fair use for, unless he has explicitly released his work into the public domain. fetchcomms☛ 14:42, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

RO'Connor 23:16, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Next time, reply on that page. The issue is, the artwork is copyrighted, unless you show me proof it is in the public domain. The YouTube video is copyrighted as well, but I think if you were trying to show that he makes videos, that you should try to find one not featuring the art as well.  fetchcomms 23:31, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

GA Reviews

Hello, this is just a friendly reminder that if you plan to review an article at WP:GAC, make sure to add the #:{{GAReview}} ~~~~ tag under the nomination, as it is instructed at the top of the page. I added my name to William Windsor (goat) without realizing that you were in the process of reviewing it, which caused some frustration on my part, as I had already started drafting my comments. I've since changed my name to yours here; just make sure to do this yourself in the future. María (habla conmigo) 14:31, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Oh! Sorry! I had told the user I would review it on IRC and completely forgot to mark the page. Thanks for doing it for me, and I'm so sorry for wasting some of your time.  fetchcomms 20:24, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
