Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled

I have requested autopatrolled permission at above from November 9, 2022 but there is no comment or change in my permission so please can you give me autopatroll permission on that page. I have created more that 200 articles in wikipedia in which 99% are notable so please. 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐭𝟕𝟐𝟖🧙‍♂️ 04:10, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi there! Please be patient, it will receive a response eventually. I don't have the time to look through your article creation history right now, sorry. Note that the autopatrolled permission does not grant any extra editing functionality to those who have it, so there is no rush; its primary purpose is to manage the workload of new page patrollers. Thanks for your contributions, and I will second the recent advice on your talk page that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to article creation. Requesting block of User:Mia Kokkoni

Hi Dan, per my conversation with User:Robinlewisadams 1, User:Mia Kokkoni is also them. While this is an WP:AGF situation, I told them they should not have two accounts, suggested they stop editing from the Mia account and only use Robinlewisadams 1 going forward then had further exchanges about a draft (well two actually, Draft:Robin Adams (Scottish musician) and Draft:Robin Adams (musician)). However, they used the Mia account a few minutes later. Again, I don't think this is intentional deception or anything but it causing confusion so requesting the Mia account be blocked. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:49, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Question from Sultan992 (10:09, 1 December 2022)

Hi, How are you doing? I need to make 2 pages for my company's digital presence on Wikipedia, Can you please guide the process? --Sultan992 (talk) 10:09, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi Sultan992, and welcome to Wikipedia. To be honest, I wouldn't recommend trying to create a page for your company because you will probably find that it is difficult to neutrally and verifiably write about things that you are personally associated with. If you decide to proceed, please read the conflict of interest guideline carefully, provide the necessary disclosures, and then see Help:Your first article. Please be mindful that promotion is not allowed on Wikipedia and that articles need to have reliable and independent sources to establish notability. Thanks! DanCherek (talk) 12:55, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

George F. Baker

Please note this page is full of inaccuracies and outdated information.

George F. Baker High School

When I try to update it, it reverts back to this page.

GFBGGM (talk) 13:50, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

HI GFBGGM, your edits are being reverted because you keep adding text copied from other websites to the article. It sounds like you have a conflict of interest, in which case you should first disclose it per WP:COI. Regardless of the copyright status, Wikipedia is primarily interested in what reliable, independent secondary sources have to say about a particular subject, and so basing an entire article on the official website is generally not appropriate either. DanCherek (talk) 14:54, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
I disclosed it in the talk section of the post. So maybe you can help me, what is the best way for the school district to have an accurate up to date page if all the information is sourced from the school itself? GFBGGM (talk) 14:56, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
I don't see a disclosure at George F. Baker High School or at Talk:George F. Baker High School, so it would be best to follow the steps at WP:COI (or WP:PAID) and add it to your user page. Because of the conflict of interest, you should instead propose changes to the article on the talk page, using an edit request. DanCherek (talk) 14:59, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

To answer the question ...

... that you asked in this edit summary, just look at the first three letters of the username (which is also why I've blocked the account indefinitely). Daniel Case (talk) 19:10, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

@Daniel Case: Good point! I thought at first it might have been related to the Korean surname Seo, after going to the website they linked to, but you're right – that kind of URL-adding is pretty much always spam. Thanks. DanCherek (talk) 19:15, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
Yes, when the bot at UAA flags a username with this string, there's an appended reminder that in some languages (mainly Indic) that's a naturally occurring string in real names, so make sure it's being used promotionally. Daniel Case (talk) 19:16, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

Question

Hello DanCherek! Just wanted to make sure, when I reported this user, did I do something wrong there? I know I pinged Drmies, and saw that it was redacted. Should I have not pinged them? Just want to make sure so I don't do the same thing again if I shouldn't have. Thanks!! SPF121188 (talk this way) (my edits) 17:52, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi Spf121188, it's all good. I wouldn't say you did anything wrong. These attack-username cases are definitely tricky to deal with, and I saw this one as bad enough to redact from the page history, which is why I performed those revision deletions. It's a gray area and not a big deal to handle it this way, but in the future if you happen to have a feeling that it shouldn't be visible publicly, don't hesitate to report it using one of the ways listed at WP:REVDELREQUEST. DanCherek (talk) 17:59, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
Oh okay! Got it :) I'll do that moving forward! Thanks for the help, just want to make sure I know how to handle egregious cases like that in the future. Cheers! SPF121188 (talk this way) (my edits) 18:03, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi Dan, this is Louis J horvitz and I'm trying to update my wiki page. You keep rejecting my submissions. Can you help me as I do not understand what the issue is. They are just facts of the programs I have directed. Best LJH

HI Dan, I'm trying to compose an addition for my wikipedia page. I obviously am new as the edits keep getting rejected . Can you help me. I'm trying to add facts of programs I have directed and for how man years

this is what I would like to add. But if it is bias vs factual maybe you can help me adjust.

Horvitz specializes in directing live event television. He directed The Academy Awards for twelve years. Additionally, he directed The Grammy Awards eleven times, the Golden Globes eleven times, The Kennedy Center Honors thirty-one times, The American Film Institute Life Achievement Award thirty times , and The Prime-Time Emmy Awards a total of seventeen times,

I am at ljh@louisjhorvitz.com

Thank you Louis J Horvitz 142.129.115.137 (talk) 23:22, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

I removed the text you added because it was copied from https://www.emmys.com/bios/louis-j-horvitz (© Television Academy) without evidence that it is compatibly licensed with Wikipedia. It was also very promotionally worded. To propose an addition or change to the article, you should open an edit request at Talk:Louis J. Horvitz, but please be sure to include reliable, independent sources that support the proposed change(s). DanCherek (talk) 03:13, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

Former administrators and extended-confirmed

Hiya. I saw you in the rights log, granting extendedconfirmed to a few former administrators (Pathoschild et al). This is just to note that it generally isn't necessary to do so – MediaWiki will grant it on their next edit if they haven't held it before. Given that it was rolled out in 2016 and quite a lot of the administrators being desysopped had their RfAs before then, they don't need to have their rights manually changed to add it. See Special:UserRights/Atama for an example of the automatic grant; for examples where manual grants are needed, see Special:UserRights/Athaenara and Special:UserRights/Eddie891 (the former because they were automatically granted it in 2019 after a resignation, and the latter because they held it prior to RfA). Hope this helps  . Sdrqaz (talk) 04:33, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

Yeah, I got confused by Eddie's case and then realized my mistake soon after I granted a few. DanCherek (talk) 04:35, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

Lisa Matomola article deletion

Hi Dan. The information cited in the article Lisa Matomola was taken from a trusted website and various local newspapers, and this were properly referenced. And this article was still in the draft form. Can you post it back so we can finish with the editing work. We created the article with article Wizard platform for beginners. Also, the claim that there is information from Twitter, haven't used information from Twitter, if there is match, is just that that information came from the sources I used. Kindly advise further. Martin Hipangwa (talk) 15:08, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi Martin! The page was deleted because it was almost entirely copied verbatim from the cited websites, mostly this article and this one. You're welcome to recreate the draft, but when adding information to Wikipedia, it needs to be written in your own words. I sometimes find it helpful to read the source material, then try to summarize it without directly referring to it (of course you can look at it afterwards, but this might help avoid the temptation of using the same or substantially similar phrasing). DanCherek (talk) 16:06, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

Do not remove section you have no clue about- it shows your ignorance and eurocentrism

Per your words: “I've never really worked on Wikipedia articles about my field of expertise, though. Instead, I like to branch out and work on articles about unfamiliar and interesting people, places, and things – the ones where you can learn a lot as you look for sources or read related articles.” Thus according to your logic and its impact on the legitimacy of Wikipedia’s editing, I would urge you to quit editing/removing content that you are not familiar with. I urge you to do so because you are removing content from users who are personally familiar/have extensive education about the topics they are editing. I am referring about Nizar Qabbani’s section. I am aware there were copyrights issues which must be fixed. However, further removal of well-referenced information is a covert biased and discriminatory gesture that I will reported and according to Wikipedia’s rules, will disqualify you from future editing privileges. Editorqueenofnubia (talk) 16:00, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

You're right that there were significant "copyrights issues which must be fixed" – my actions at that article were done to remedy those issues, not for any other content-based reason (and no conspiracy theories alleging covert biases, please). When adding information to Wikipedia, it needs to be written in your own words. Please don't copy text from other websites. DanCherek (talk) 16:09, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

Vandalism

Dear Dan,

the article I reverted due to vandalism had the following issues, the time period is irrelevant as it was mostly done by one controversial user with about 9 edits.

You mentioned "false claims" of vandalism, please explain how the following is not vandalism:

- Actively removed the association between Kurdish history and the Baban family, even with the latter being an important historical entity of the former.

- Actively removed the map of the Kurdish principalities crafted by Kurdoloigst Dr. Michael Izady, and well sourced, the claim of removal was based on that it was "made by a kurdologist" who has been critiqued by an iranologist, this was made my an Iranian user.

- Actively removed notable descendants, most of which well sourced, I removed some of them as they weren't sourced, a prime minister of iraq is a notable descendant to be mentioned.

Could you explain how is that not vandalism? how is removing a 2 century lasting principality from the Wikipedia collection of Kurdish articles not vandalism? I will revert the changes if you do not explain, as these pages should not be edited due to political reasons.

Best wishes. 109.175.196.210 (talk) 09:33, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Correction, 19 edits not 9, by one user. 109.175.196.210 (talk) 09:37, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
Because we define vandalism as "editing (or other behavior) deliberately intended to obstruct or defeat the project's purpose" (see this policy and specifically Wikipedia:Vandalism § What is not vandalism). It seems like a standard content dispute, actually, one that can be discussed on the talk page of the article without accusations of vandalism. By the way, please stay logged-in when you edit; mixing logged-in and logged-out edits within a single article or topic is generally frowned upon. Thanks, DanCherek (talk) 18:13, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Draft:Jobairul Islam was deleted back in August as "unambiguous advertising or promotion". Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged — see our guideline on writing autobiographies. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site, so if you'd like to stick around, I would recommend looking for a subject that you're interested in and going from there. Hi Alaa helmy238, I can't provide you with help regarding this. Do you have a question about editing Wikipedia? DanCherek (talk) 16:18, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I was investigating a possible copyvio in this article, which I saw you noted as being copied from List of leaders of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. Earwig returned a medium-high confidence result for copying from [2] and [3], though the "infringing text" appears to have been present since at least 2019 in the other article. I can't clearly tell whether these sites copied and pasted from Wikipedia (one dates to 2020, which suggests this is a possibility) and stuck a copyright notice on it, but since you made an attribution note in the article history, could you take another look? Complex/Rational 16:33, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi ComplexRational, thanks for the message! Yes, sometimes it's very hard to tell when the text on external websites was published. I went looking in the source code for each of these. Insights IAS has datePublished":"2020-08-18T08:23:52+00:00 (so the "14 August 2020" date listed on the web page seems to be correct), and Civils Daily has <time class="entry-date published updated" datetime="2021-08-17T11:36:31+05:30">August 17, 2021</time>, so it looks like it originated in 2021. Based on this, I would say it's likely that both websites copied from Wikipedia. (By the way, List of leaders of the opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly isn't the only other article where that text appears, but I tried to pick the one where it appeared the earliest.) DanCherek (talk) 16:40, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, good to know! I had a hunch but wasn't entirely sure, and I self-reverted my removal. Complex/Rational 16:42, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Ta-Chung Liu

Dear Dan, I just tried to update my grandfather's page, Liu Ta Chung, according to my father's wishes, drawing from the words of his best friend and colleague, economist Sho-Chieh Tsiang, who has also passed away. We are still in close touch with Dr. Tsiang's descendants, but we don't have a lot of time to modify wikipedia. We just wanted to provide more information about Liu Ta Chung as the entry is very basic. What do you need us to do to have the additions to his entry updated? If it's a lot of trouble, we may pass but it's a shame as there is a lot of historical and personal details that we could add about his life that would give a more accurate and compelling picture. Thanks. Dana Liu Keeper China history (talk) 06:11, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Aarp65

I get uneasy feelings from the edits of User:Vuccala, especially in relation to Template:Fox-surname. Just as Aarp65 did, he throws a number of names in, largely links to disambiguation pages.

I might be overly suspicious, so a second opinion seems a good idea before doing anything elsewhere. The Banner talk 09:45, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

No, I don't think they're Aarp65, for several reasons: the usage of edit summaries, the specific focus on a singular set of surnames, and the fact that Aarp65 has been seemingly content to plug away at a dozen other wikis every day since the block. By the way, when you wikilink someone's [[User:Name]] and sign the message, that pings them – not sure if you were delivering a ping intentionally, but probably not a pleasant thing to see. Thanks for checking, and SPI is of course available if you want another opinion. DanCherek (talk) 13:59, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
Okay, thank you. Then it ends here. The Banner talk 18:38, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
No worries fellas, I actually prefer the ping, that way I can jump in and personally clarify things. I can confirm I'm not that user. And I understand what I did wrong now – only surname articles should be linked within that template box, but I incorrectly linked to disambiguation pages. My apologies --Vuccala (talk) 19:49, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
This reply is more proof that you are not that other user, as he never replied. My apologies for my suspicion. The Banner talk 20:13, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

Copyright deletions

You deleted a revision I made to TeX because of alleged copyright violations. Furthermore, you hid the deletion from public access somehow. The only evidence you left behind seems to be a URL: https://www.ling.upenn.edu/~beatrice/syntax-textbook/box-thematic.html . This page seems to have nothing to do with the article TeX in any way. I'm puzzled and would appreciate a bit of explanation as to what is going on. All I did was add "MathJax" to the article, and I can't see how this involves the copyright laws. David Spector (talk) 22:28, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

This change may not have been made by you It was made by anonymous user 184.103.85.181 . David Spector (talk) 22:30, 25 December 2022 (UTC)
Oh, I think I understand. The anonymous user inserted text from a random source on the Web as a prank, so you reverted it but noticed that it was copyrighted so your hid the reversion. Is that correct? I'm still learning about WP over 10 years after becoming an editor. David Spector (talk) 22:34, 25 December 2022 (UTC)
Hi, David, that's right! The only text that I removed (and redacted) from TeX was added by 184.103.85.181, and it was copied from that random UPenn webpage. Your edit from yesterday (link) is unaffected, and it's still present in the article. Happy holidays! DanCherek (talk) 23:11, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

Question from Selvakumar Agoor (07:34, 28 December 2022)

Hi, I would like to create a new article about a sports academy. kindly help --Selvakumar Agoor (talk) 07:34, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi Selvakumar Agoor. You can read WP:YFA for a detailed guide on how to create your first article. It will take you through the steps to create a draft that can be submitted for review. Important things to keep in mind are that the article's topic should be notable. This generally means that it has already been covered in detail in good references from independent sources. If you have a connection with the subject of your draft, you will need to provide a required disclosure – see the conflict of interest guideline for more information about that. Writing an article from scratch can be really tough for new editors, so if you are finding it challenging, I would actually encourage you to edit existing articles for a while to get the hang of things. Let me know if you have additional questions or need more detailed guidance! DanCherek (talk) 21:57, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

You did a copyvio-revdel yesterday on List of rolling stock preserved on the Severn Valley Railway‎. Can you go back and do the same again right up to the current edit, as other editors reinstated copyvio material from several sources? Thanks. 10mmsocket (talk) 08:22, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi 10mmsocket, could you be specific about which site the text is copied from (and which revisions are affected)? If it's just that svrwiki website, I don't think revision deletion is needed as it's CC BY-SA 3.0 licensed. Thanks, DanCherek (talk) 14:33, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

December music

December songs

Merry Christmas

Today, a hymn for a Marian feast, I learned that Yvonne Ciannella died, the soprano who impressed me in my first night at the opera, and as she died in March, sadly no Main page reverence is possible, - at least she had a good DYK, at a time when opera singers were considered interesting. I'm proud today that Christiane Hörbiger made it to that corner, and happy that we celebrate the birthday of Jean Sibelius again. Please check out Volodymyr Kozhukhar whom I nominated for it. - I heard an excellent Christmas concert yesterday, by Tenebrae, and a short excerpt of them singing "Deo gracias" is also linked from my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:00, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Happy December! I hope you are enjoying Paris. I've been itching to return since I last visited five years ago. How was Carmen? Thanks as always for the updates, articles, and photos. DanCherek (talk) 23:48, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
It was great. (Just that the train home was cancelled due to a strike was a bit of a challenge.) - Today was a day rich in music, with two new pictures, and also rich in WP:QAI contributions on the Main page: the TFA, 2 DYK and 2 RD with members as principal editors. The church pictured there (not by me, nice snow dust and tall evergreen) comes with memories, detailed on my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:54, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
Latest pics, with an opera discovery and some snow. Today my talk has a DYK that was planned for 22 November, among the recent deaths the author of Duck, Death and the Tulip, and now a choir pic of "our" concert last Sunday, likely to become next year's lead image. Enjoy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:17, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
Yep, I read the Wolf Erlbruch article earlier, great work! DanCherek (talk) 20:21, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

I was back to singing yesterday (no cough) and today (a bit) when we sang Charpentier's delightful Messe de minuit pour Noël today, which was on DYK yesterday, - a first for me, pictured, - Thank you for your gnomish work around DYK! - Get better soon! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:48, 25 December 2022 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

Hello DanCherek,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

The text that I removed from Doctor Lisa was a plot summary that you copied verbatim from IMDb (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12028944/plotsummary). That's not allowed, because it's a violation of the copyright policy. Any text that you add to Wikipedia needs to be written entirely in your own words, please. Thanks for the -1 byte assistance on the article Doctor Lisa. Where can i get a copy of the deleted information please? Thank you. Happy Holidays. Metro2fsb (talk) 03:47, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Happy holidays to you. As I mentioned above, the text I removed was essentially copied from this website, with minimal changes. All you need to do is click on that link to read the plot summary, but it can't be copied to Wikipedia even if you superficially modify the text; see also Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. DanCherek (talk) 03:57, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Is this OK Dan? Please revise the text as you see fit. It is a good movie, but it is in Russian.
The plot is of one day in the life of Elizabeth Glinka who is the head of Fair Care foundation. As the day starts, Elizabeth and her husband Gleb are going to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. Elizabeth is waiting for her three sons and close friends to arrive. The last thing she needs to do is drop by Moscow Paveletsky railway station to check the Fair Care funding to send humanitarian supplies to people in need. Suddenly a father of a girl suffering from a severe disease calls her, and Doctor Lisa agrees to help. This request results in Doctor Lisa breaking the law for this girl.[4][5]
Metro2fsb (talk) 04:00, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
No, it still looks like you started by copying the plot from IMDb (or elsewhere) and then superficially modifying the sentences. That is close paraphrasing; please read the guideline that I linked above about this. You should summarize the plot in your own words, please. DanCherek (talk) 04:04, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

User talk:DanCherek who can i get a 2nd opinion on this, I added several sources and rewrote every paragraph. Per Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing:

Wikipedia's primary concern is with the legal constraints imposed by copyright law. Close paraphrasing of the creative expression in a non-free copyrighted source is likely to be an infringement of the copyright of the source. In many countries close paraphrasing may be also seen as mutilation or distortion of an author's work, infringing on their moral rights.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this passage now exceeds all Fair Use standards of US and British copyright law. I don't know about EU copyright law, but I believe this would meet all guidelines for their Fair Use laws also. Metro2fsb (talk) 04:45, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

Feel free to consult someone listed in Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to investigate copyright matters. DanCherek (talk) 04:46, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
The plot is of one day in the life of Elizabeth Glinka who is the head of Fair Care Foundation in Moscow in 2012. As the day starts, Elizabeth and her husband Gleb are going to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. Elizabeth is waiting for her three sons and close friends to arrive.
Before the party, the last thing she needs to do is drop by Moscow Paveletsky Railway Station to check on weekly patients at the Fair Care fund and to send humanitarian supplies to people in need.
At the clinic, a man calls Doctor Lisa. In a hospital in the Moscow suburbs his five-year-old girl, Eva, who is dying. The doctor on duty has to discharge Eva. Due to medical formalities the child, who suffers from cancer, is left without painkillers. Doctor Lisa agrees to help.
This request results in Doctor Lisa breaking the law for this girl.[4][5][6][2][7]

Question from Rita Colmar (06:28, 18 January 2023)

Hello Dear Mr DanCherek, I am from Hong Kong, China, and I am new to Wikipedia. My attention is drawn to the case of Kris Wu sex scandal, where I found a lot of partial and misinformation, which invariably leads readers to a biased judgement. I would like to add more follow up information to this page as the case is controversial but the Chinese government do not encourage, if not forbid, public discussion on this case. Would you please tell me how to add more information to this page ? I won't change the original text but would like to furnish it with additional information so that readers will have a more comprehensive and objective view. Regards, Rita Colmar --Rita Colmar (talk) 06:28, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

Question from Dactylantha (00:10, 26 January 2023)

Hello! I'm taking a look at the notes on West Auckland to support authorship and edits from Prosperosity. I noticed a comment on the talk page regarding Linking (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Linking#What_generally_should_not_be_linked) and I was wondering how far the guidelines re: linking in the body of an article should be extended? Or should I only work on delinking for repeated links? --Dactylantha (talk) 00:10, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi Dactylantha, great question as linking can be a tricky subject (I've definitely had my fair share of GA reviewers tell me to remove a bunch of overlinks  ). Looking over the reviewer's comments at Talk:West Auckland, New Zealand/GA1, it looks like the main concern is with duplicate links, rather than overlinking of simple or common terms; skimming through the article, I think I'd agree that there is not a huge overlinking concern once the duplicate links are addressed. If you have a question about a specific link, feel free to ask.
By the way, you might be interested in this handy script: User:Evad37/duplinks-alt. It will add a button to your sidebar when you view an article, and clicking the button will highlight duplicate wikilinks in a red box. DanCherek (talk) 01:10, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, looking forward to giving the script a try! I also have another question regarding primary sources that I would love your input on... I was looking to add references to the final paragraph of Local Government in West Auckland, New Zealand but I am unsure if the ones supplied are inappropriate. Thanks for your help! Dactylantha (talk) 01:17, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
Seems okay to me, the statements are pretty uncontroversial and it doesn't have any additional interpretation that would require a secondary source. If there does happen to be a good secondary source out there, like a newspaper reporting election results or something, it wouldn't hurt to add it, but I probably wouldn't object to the current sourcing. Question from Hfidsbfvhiwgfyriwahas (18:39, 27 January 2023)

how do i make an article --Hfidsbfvhiwgfyriwahas (talk) 18:39, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Let me know if you have additional questions or need more detailed guidance. DanCherek (talk) 01:00, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

Deletion of page

Hi, there, you deleted my page Judith Ring (Composer), and linked me to Criteria for speedy deletion G12, but I got permission from, Judith Ring to make the Wikipedia. CKNR (talk) 19:57, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

Check out Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information how the copyright holder can verify that the material is released under a compatible license (note that doing so would allow anyone to share, distribute, transmit, and adapt your work, even commercially). This needs to happen before previuosly published copyright text can be imported into Wikipedia. However, I will also point out that Wikipedia is primarily interested in what reliable, independent secondary sources have to say about a particular subject, not what they say about themselves, and so basing most of an article on something like an "official biography" is generally not appropriate either and makes it harder to establish the subject's notability. Finally, please follow the steps at WP:COI to properly disclose your connection to Judith Ring. Thanks, DanCherek (talk) 20:49, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi there, you deleted a page Gurreh District speedy, kindly like to request to reinstate the page so that i can re-edit and clear up the copyright infrigement Ruralgreek (talk) 17:31, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

@Ruralgreek: I have restored the page to User:Ruralgreek/Gurreh District, but I've removed the text from the page as it was a violation of our copyright policy. This preserves the infobox and references if you'd like to try again. Please be sure to summarize information in your own words, rather than copying it from elsewhere. Help me on the talkpage of Bubble tea

Hello! I have made a section on the talk page on the bubble tea article, it is about adding sections and footnotes, check it out:Talk:Bubble tea#About_the_sales_of_Bubble_tea_in_Canada,_Milk_Tea_Alliance_and_is_tapioca_mainly_produced_in_Asia_or_South_America? LilGoober4u (talk) 21:13, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for your contributions. If there is no response to your talk page post, free to edit the article directly, making sure that what you write is supported by citations to reliable sources. As a quick note, I wouldn't really consider berkeleyinternational.net (the website of a random manufacturer) a scholarly source that would be appropriate for the article. Copyvios

Hi Dan, I usually go to Diannaa with this type of stuff, but since she's taking a break, I'm coming to you. Special:Contributions/91.237.86.212 and Special:Contributions/91.237.86.201 have a lot of contributions. I've tagged two articles edited by the first IP for copyvios, New Medium Helicopter and AgustaWestland AW139 with more likley. At this point, the volume seems more than I am able to investigate at the moment. I did post warnings on the user's latest talk page here, and their response was, Its small amount of text. Can you help? Thanks. BilCat (talk) 02:57, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

Thank you! BilCat (talk) 03:18, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi BilCat, thanks for reporting this. I've done some additional removal and revdels at the two articles, as you probably saw, and have blocked the recent IP for a period of time as the issues are so extensive (and in spite of at least one previous warning) that I believe they need to demonstrate an understanding of the copyright policy before continuing to edit. I unfortunately don't have time to comb through all of their past contributions, either – if you think a CCI is needed, it can be filed as long as the different IPs are specified. Happy to help – and feel free to drop by with any quick requests like this in the future! DanCherek (talk) 03:26, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
OK, thanks. I see that both Diannaa and myself warned them before! I now recall it, but didn't at first. I've never done a CCI, so I'll have to look into it. It won't be tonight, as I have off-wiki things that need doing. Thanks again. BilCat (talk) 03:32, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the New Year wishes, same to you and happy birthday to your mom! A "year of resilience" sounds great to me – it's a quality that features pretty heavily in this draft that I started about a short story that I read recently. DanCherek (talk) 17:37, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
Interesting story. I guess I'd start with background, because the plot makes more sense if you are reminded of the mythology. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:36, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

This one is just perfect in every way. P.S. I like the phenomenon of the calendar image above ↑ getting bigger as the month progresses; we ought to try something like | image_upright = {{#expr: {{#time: d}} / 30 + 0.5}}. Would gradually grow the upright parameter every day from 0.5 at the beginning of the month, to 1.5 at the end of the month   DanCherek (talk) 00:30, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

Iraqi Ground Forces

Dear DanCherek, Slava Ukrainii!!; we haven't met. I am here because of Diannaa's assiduous copyright patrolling; she pinged me on my talkpage regarding this article (see User_talk:Buckshot06#February 2023).

I explained to her that the source she removed had been duplicated; I got it out of a book by Michael R. Gordon published last year, not the duplicate web version. So because she's having a health slowdown I am here at your talkpage to reduce the load on her.

Now, I have been going over Gordon's reprinted extract from "Degrade and Destroy" and wondered whether there was a simple solution: could I block-quote five sentences of the article / book page in question, with full attribution in a footnote, making quite clear that it is a quote? I've done that not infrequently writing up numerous military topics. Does that pass our copyright rules (or do I need to go through every use of <blockquote> and re-sift and potentially remove?)?

Kind regards

Buckshot06 (talk) 00:45, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi Buckshot06. A brief, properly attributed quote, where it is made clear that it is a quote (either with the <blockquote> tag for lengthier quotes, or enclosed in "quotation marks" for shorter ones), should be okay. Then, the decision of whether to use a quote comes down to the non-free guideline. I would say that in general, quotations from sources in footnotes are helpful if there is a particular passage where the author's wording is meaningful (i.e., where paraphrasing it in your own words would be less impactful), or in cases where an offline source is being used to support a controversial statement and/or one where readers would likely want to see the original wording. So, a five-sentence block quote from a book seems fine, but I would do this sparingly (so there is probably not a need to provide this kind of quotation for every citation, which I've seen some editors do – overquoting can easily become clunky and unhelpful). Hope that helps. I haven't looked into the full context of your edits at this particular article, so let me know if you have additional questions. DanCherek (talk) 02:06, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Understood. I will make that upload now; feel free to check and rollback, or give me any other advice. Buckshot06 (talk) 02:18, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Looks okay to me! Thanks. DanCherek (talk) 02:27, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Done now. Please feel free to review [4]. CC Diannaa Buckshot06 (talk) 02:28, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Acknowledged. Buckshot06 (talk) 02:29, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Actually, Buckshot06, one issue that I see with the addition is that someone reading that section would likely draw the conclusion that those words originated from Lt. General Barbero, when it seems like it is actually Gordon's summary of Barbero's assessment. For that reason a summary may be more appropriate here. DanCherek (talk) 02:55, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
Can I just reword the intro as "Gordon summarizes Barbero's assessment as" etc? Diannaa deleted my first summary because it set off her automatic detector; summaries may be judged as too-close paraphrasing.. Buckshot06 (talk) 06:59, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 March newsletter

So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:

  •   Unlimitedlead with 1205 points, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with two featured articles on historical figures and several featured article candidate reviews.
  •   Epicgenius was in second place with 789 points; a seasoned WikiCup competitor he specialises in buildings and locations in New York.
  •   FrB.TG was in third place with 625 points, garnered from a featured article on a filmmaker which qualified for an impressive number of bonus points.
  •   TheJoebro64, another WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points gained from two featured articles on video games.
  •   Iazyges was in fifth place with 532 points, from two featured articles on classical history.

The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included   LunaEatsTuna,   Thebiguglyalien,   Sammi Brie,   Trainsandotherthings,   Lee Vilenski,   Juxlos,   Unexpectedlydian,   SounderBruce,   Kosack,   BennyOnTheLoose and   PCN02WPS. It was a high-scoring start to the competition.

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. The first round finished on February 26. Remember that any content promoted after that date but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. Thank you

...for your continuing attention in support of WP:VERIFY, including at the Lars von Trier article. I would note, there, that an earlier non-logging editor, the individual at IP address 136.158.78.115, has made extensive edits, both adding information without source, and removing sourced information. I have marked some of the former of these with [citation needed] tags, but the overall edits from that location should be reviewed. (You left them a message at their talk page, about such, earlier.) As another non-logging editor, I do not do bold redactive edits, even when another is egregiously in violation of WP policies. (Because long experience has shown that Twinkle and its users do not exercise discretion when seeing such deletions by a non-logging editor, even when proper.) Cheers, all the best. Peter Bunyard

Professor Peter Bunyard is a major expert on the biotic pump and the planetary atmospheric hydrology in general with game-changing insights on how we can fight climate destabilization and even how to stop the planet from heating up through the interaction of vegetation and in particular tropical rain forests, water and the atmosphere. He states, as an adept and close associate of James Lovelock that the Earth's atmosphere is the result of the interaction of life with the planet's properties and not the adaptation to a pre-existing atmosphere. He has proven the existence of the biotic pump phenomenon and the physical theoretical proof but his amazing insights have been ignored till now, which, once adopted would become major tools in stabilizing the climate within decades! Further copyvio revdel

Hi Dan,

You revdelled some copyright-violating edits here which seem (IANAA so I can't see the deleted ones) to have been readded. Would you mind hiding the content that was re-added? -- it's the last three revisions before mine. I've left them a level 3 warning on promo with a note about the copyvios, so hopefully they'll stop. Thanks, Giraffer (talk·contribs) 12:12, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, Giraffer! I've performed the revision deletion, and as they added it yet again after your latest edit, I've p-blocked them from the article. Hopefully that will motivate them to engage either on their talk page or the article's talk page. DanCherek (talk) 14:40, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

Re: Net 25

Hi, I would like to clarify things with regard to the revisions I made to the Net 25 article. The lifting of copy-pasted material from the archived version of its old archived website which had to be removed from the public logs of article revisions that were cited as copyright violations were completely unintentional. The content was already included in a previous version of the article which was removed for supposedly lacking a cited source, I merely re-added the same by citing the source. I do acknowledge that these were directly lifted from that archived webpage, but had I known that it was violating a rule, I should have been given the chance to clean it up myself. Thanks and have a good day. Vgyu 13:58, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Yes, I saw that it seemed to have been unintentionally restored from an old version, so no worries. Feel free to re-add the information after rewriting, if you'd like. DanCherek (talk) 14:01, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

Question from Sudippal7 on Literature (11:54, 7 April 2023)

Hey wikipedia team, I found a dead link in "Literature" article. And I find a good article about literature. But I don't edit this link in reference section. Please tell me. How to edit this. --Sudippal7 (talk) 11:54, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi Sudippal7, welcome to Wikipedia! Please don't replace links with ones to your own articles such as [5]. That sort of self-published content is not a good source for Wikipedia articles and there is also a conflict-of-interest element involved that makes it a bad idea. Request for not Redirect Saini Rajput page to Saini .

Do not redirect Saini Rajput to Saini . I want to add real history about Saini Rajput community by differentiating other Communities of same Surname.I copied most of information from www.sainionline.com because it is genuine site that contains true information about Saini Rajput Community Shoorsaini Rajput (talk) 17:35, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

I have reverted your addition again because it was copied from [6], which is marked "©2010-2025 Sainionline.com All rights reserved." at the bottom, so this is a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy. It also does not appear to be a reliable, scholarly source. Please ensure that any information you add to Wikipedia is written in your own words. DanCherek (talk) 19:58, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

Request to have a look at my ANI

Hello. I have chosen you randomly to ask an admin to have a look at this ANI I opened 3 days ago. Veverve (talk) 14:55, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi Veverve, thanks for reaching out but I would prefer to leave the resolution of this one to another admin if you don't mind, for a couple reasons but mainly wanting to focus my limited WP time on copyright cleanup and content creation. I know it's frustrating to have a report linger, sorry! DanCherek (talk) 15:00, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Question from Guyroul on Michael Gray (footballer) (18:03, 19 April 2023)

Hi,

I have seen an error with this page. The ‘Honours’ section is missing Michael Gray’s two biggest honours: Football League First Division winner: 1995–96, 1998–99 --Guyroul (talk) 18:03, 19 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi Guyroul, welcome to Wikipedia! I see that you have successfully edited the page to add the information. If you are able to cite a reliable source that verifies that information to the article, that would be great. In the meantime I will add a welcome message to your talk page with some helpful information on getting started with Wikipedia, feel free to ask any additional questions here!
