Greetings

Hello 28bytes. Since our last interaction, I have been busy following some of your advice. I say some, because undoubtedly I've deviated a bit; and accept responsibility for all of my edits. From the ashes of a deletion discussion, we now have Richard Landis, Richard Landis discography, several templates including Template:infobox producer discography, and most recently, Portal:Record production. I hope you approve of the direction I've taken this matter, and more so, would appreciatively invite you to sign the member list at the portal, to assist improving the entire scope of "music producer documentation". It's where I have been, and where I will be for the near term. Sincerely - My76Strat (talk) 23:28, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Very interesting! I've been reading a lot about Brian Wilson lately, so if you're looking for goals to add to the portal page, I can't think of a better one than getting his article to GA (or possibly even FA) status at some point. (Or am I conflating portals and projects? I haven't worked with portals much.) 28bytes (talk) 13:33, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Gratitude...

Thank you for awarding a Barnstar for my humble work.

I'm so jazzed, I've figured out what a couple more of your dutiful, diligent bot's keys mean, so I'll be adding them to my cleaning detail. It's amazing how much of this stuff crops up! All the best Fylbecatulous talk 19:29, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

You're quite welcome! (And if you ever get stuck on what a key means, this should be up to date.) 28bytes (talk) 19:44, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

A beer for you!

Wow, I'm impressed - you blocked quicker than I reported. Thanks & Enjoy. Denisarona (talk) 17:08, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! (Happened to have that one on my watchlist from the last block.) 28bytes (talk) 17:19, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

On "getting a grip"

They probably were but that whole discussion wasn't going anywhere. As is common on that particular page. Sorry I offended you. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 16:24, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Violation of interaction ban

Hi 28bytes, I'd just like to give you a heads-up that I have mentioned you in the course of a request for the enforcement of a community sanction at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Community sanctions enforcement request: Delicious carbuncle, concerning the violation of a community-imposed interaction ban. You are welcome to comment if you wish. Prioryman (talk) 18:05, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Suggestion for 28bot

Sorry if I'm repeating some old comment - the bot links the IP talk in its edit summary [1], whereas more common and useful would be to link the IP contributions instead - this is an anti-vandal bot, and if we see its reverting some IP, we need to check its other contribs first. Materialscientist (talk) 08:00, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion. That's a good point; I'll make that change this week. Cheers, 28bytes (talk) 12:38, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

28bot testing

Hey, I just wanted to let you know that we've finished up all the analysis for the A/B test with 28bot. The full results didn't show any big differences in edits by folks who got one message or another, but we did see some examples that suggested that reducing the number of links in the test message to just the diff and the talk page was helpful. Statistically speaking, our most conclusive result was comparing 28bot to Rscprinterbot... Let me know if you're interested in talking about any next steps, and thanks again for helping us run this test. Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 18:40, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Steven. I'm happy to help out if there are any more tests you'd like to do. 28bytes (talk) 20:15, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Article ignore needed for 28bot

Hi! Will you instruct your wonderful bot to ignore the "o" (code) key finding on the article Internet Explorer 8? The rationale is hidden in the "Removed Features" section and states: "Use of "Code" tags is purposeful to prevent appearance of this page as having an incorrect "BR" tag at Wikipedia:WikiProject Check Wikipedia. Please do not remove them." Thanks and I'm so enjoying the happy hunting, Fylbecatulous talk 01:00, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)I believe the bot is exclusion complaint so the bot deny tag can be placed on the top of the page. However, I could be wrong.—cyberpower ChatOffline 11:18, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
Done. The bot does respect deny tags, and it also has its own ignore whitelist here. But in this case, I just simplified <code></code> to <code/>, which made it a little tidier and will make the bot happy too. 28bytes (talk) 01:42, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
Ok, thanks! But I'm going to expose my inexperience here and ask what it means to place a bot deny tag on the top of the page? Is that the same as my doing this on my talk page, so bots don't leave me messages? If so, in my example of IE8, which page would the tag go on (talk or article or where). If not, how would I procure/produce the tag ? I ask because I would be glad to handle this myself, should I encounter another similar problem. Truly mystified, but hopeful ... Fylbecatulous talk 03:30, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
Yep, it's the same thing as a talk-page bot denial. Template:Bots explains it pretty well. Essentially, well-behaved bots will check for a {{nobots}} or {{bots|deny=<botname>}} or similar anyplace in the page it's reading, and will not edit the page if it's there. Boxing Day has one, to pick a random example. A {{bots}} tag will stop 28bot from editing the page, but it's better to use the ignore page instead; that will keep the article free of additional markup and will also stop 28bot from even reporting test edits on its log pages. Hope that helps! 28bytes (talk) 04:31, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
Yes, thanks; I understand! I won't stop bots from their dedicated work by using a tag against them... Fylbecatulous talk 12:10, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for trying to talk sense on AN. So, uh, here's a cheeseburger... because that's the first thing I think of when I think "hmm, I should thank that person for trying to tell Rcsprinter123 to try *talking* to someone first".

Don't ask how I got from that to burgers. EVula // talk // // 04:25, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

If you've accidentally edited logged out and want your IP address hidden, you can e-mail me the page(s) you edited and the IP(s) you used and I'll take care of it for you. If it's something else, you may want to contact the oversight team. 28bytes (talk) 04:13, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

First, set up an e-mail address in Special:Preferences. Once you've done that, then you'll be able to click this link to e-mail me. 28bytes (talk) 13:43, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

An opinion

The more I thought about it (and later commented in small to someone to the same effect) the more I came to your same conclusion, that if we maintained the block after the problem had been fixed, then we were in effect reblocking him on different grounds without a proper presentation of the evidence. To me, this is more complicated than just wikilawyering or technicalities, it is a matter of principle and it would have been wrong, even if it was convenient. I would also add that I tend to agree with everything else you said. I'm still worried that she took action when she was involved, but as I stated, would be generous enough to let it fit under WP:IAR and not labor it. I think you handled it in a very balanced and proper way, and wanted to take the time to say so. Dennis Brown - © 01:56, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Thank you, Dennis. I appreciate your thoughtful comments. I share your concerns regarding involvement, but involvement in the "acting to help a friend one believes has been treated badly" sense is at least a great deal more noble than the "sticking it to someone you don't like" kind of involvement that seems a bit more common, so I'm with you that IARing it is probably the best course of action on that. 28bytes (talk) 02:05, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Re: Dannyboy1209

for your consideration... I was going to draw it to Floquenbeam's attention, but apparently they have just asked to de-sysoped :-S Pol430 talk to me 19:39, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

I did see that, and it did occur to me when I blocked User:Dannyboy1209 2 that it could be an impersonator just trying to have some fun at Dannyboy1209's expense. A checkuser may be able to shed some light on it. 28bytes (talk) 19:44, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

"Test" edit(s)

Regarding this,[2] that wasn't a "test edit", I just somehow forgot where I was. Looks like I'm past my bedtime! However, the posting on my talk page suggested I had done it several times. Is that for real? Have I messed up on other occasions recently? Or is that just the standard message? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 02:52, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, it's just Template:uw-articlesig with a "report false positives" line tacked on. You get that even if it's the first time you "sign" an article. 28bytes (talk) 03:07, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

can you have a look at the blr page

? im making a table and want to make sure its all good by wikipedia standards and stuff. Happy monsoon day (talk) 00:20, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi there! One thing that would be great is if you could find references for everything you've added. People are likely to remove bits if they're not referenced. When I last left the article, every sentence was referenced. I would love it if we could make that true again. 28bytes (talk) 00:40, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Banning Request

Hi, I need to request that a user be banned from a couple of pages or blocked due to the continued addition of incorrect, uneducated, and/or poorly sourced material. Have I come to the right place? Thank you, (Y26Z3 (talk) 17:58, 3 June 2012 (UTC))

The starting point for dispute resolution is the talk page of the article in question. If that fails, consider opening a case at the edit warring noticeboard (WP:ANI/3RR). If it is straight vandalism then report it to either WP:AIV or WP:ANI if it is more complex. QU TalkQu 18:31, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
