Archiving

Hey dude :). Just seen your archiving technique; you know this really distorts the history, right? I mean, if I want to find messages or conversations, the page history is now useless to me :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:13, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

But the search function works well for me. Move Like This is #25 now, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:21, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Oh, headdesk, didn't see that :S. Okay, ignore me, I'm clearly an idiot :P. Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:21, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, that's the first complaint I've received about that! If it helps, I almost never delete conversations, so they should be easy to find from the archive search box. I dislike cut-and-paste moves, which the "other" way of archiving requires, so I went with the Help:Archiving a talk page#Move procedure approach when I first needed to archive things. 28bytes (talk) 18:25, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
(ec) No, please don't do that to yourself. Did you know that 28bytes is the perfect adviser on clean start (try search), and archiving shows ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:30, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
I took a peek at the Schon gewusst nomination; looks like they don't use the nice shiny "approved" or "declined" icons we use. :) Does that mean everything's OK with it? 28bytes (talk) 18:34, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Looks good to me, mine (on the Hauptseite right know) had a much longer discussion about the wording of the hook, and the one about the bridge that I nominated for the blocked people, author and translator, even longer, so this is a good sign. Some are rejected right away as too old or article not good enough, they get "(erl.)" and archived, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:52, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Move Like This is #17 now. Move like this? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:02, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Will you please confirm my account the reason is given at WP:Requests for permissions/Confirmed#User:Khan810 thank you Khan810 (talk · contribs) 6th april 2012

No, sorry. Another administrator has already declined your request and a quick review of your contributions doesn't offer a compelling reason to disagree with him. 28bytes (talk) 14:34, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Email and question

Hello, 28bytes. Please check your email; you've got mail!
It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template.

Question: What's wrong with my setup using {{Iw-matrix}}, which doesn't seem to be working right with other languages of WP?--Jasper Deng (talk) 06:05, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Don't know much about that template, sorry. 28bytes (talk) 13:32, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for your support at my RfA. I will do my best to live up to people's confidence in me. Yngvadottir (talk) 15:31, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome, and congratulations! 28bytes (talk) 15:55, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Ihardlythinkso ranting on my talk page

All three of us have met before. I've hatted a rant he posted on my talk page, and I'm concerned that he has changed little since his January incident.--Jasper Deng (talk) 03:31, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Hopefully he will take the hint that you don't wish to discuss the subject anymore. If he doesn't take the hint, let me know. 28bytes (talk) 03:37, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
He didn't with a borderline personal attack. I don't know why he even came to my talk page in the first place.--Jasper Deng (talk) 03:42, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Well, he claims he's going to leave you alone. Let me know if he doesn't. 28bytes (talk) 03:56, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll leave it at that.--Jasper Deng (talk) 03:58, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

28bytes: I was more than clear about my purpose on his Talk. I repeated that purpose (question I was looking for help on) several times. I tried to keep topic to that point. So why this kind of statement from Deng? (I don't need an answer! I'm just defending myself. ["Rant". "Comes to my Talk without purpose". Etc.]) For the record. Ihardlythinkso (talk) 04:37, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Noted. 28bytes (talk) 04:40, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

FYI.--Jasper Deng (talk) 17:31, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Diplomacy
I have decided to retract my certification. This probably will not do anything as it seems likely that it will go ahead, but I have decided that I was over-reacting and considering things too emotionally to make a balanced judgement. I appreciate your efforts to resolve the situation and maintaining a calm and logical perspective when debating (including myself) got more aggravated and heated. Thank you. Gilderien Talk|Contribs 11:49, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
Thank you very much Gilderien, I sincerely appreciate this. I'm glad you found my comments of value, and I'm grateful that you were willing to reconsider. 28bytes (talk) 16:04, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
The gratitude is all mine. Your comments made me realise that I was over-reacting and being unfair because of my emotional response, and that it would be better for the project if I withdrew my certification before we lost another valued editor over this block.--Gilderien Talk|Contribs 16:20, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Your HighBeam account is ready!

Good news! You now have access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research. Here's what you need to know:

  • Your account activation code has been emailed to your Wikipedia email address.
    • Only 407 of 444 codes were successfully delivered; most failed because email was simply not set up (You can set it in Special:Preferences).
    • If you did not receive a code but were on the approved list, add your name to this section and we'll try again.
  • The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
  • To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1; 2) You’ll see the first page of a two-page registration. 3) Put in an email address and set up a password. (Use a different email address if you signed up for a free trial previously); 4) Click “Continue” to reach the second page of registration; 5) Input your basic information; 6) Input the activation code; 7) Click “Finish”. Note that the activation codes are one-time use only and are case-sensitive.
  • If you need assistance, email "help at highbeam dot com", and include "HighBeam/Wikipedia" in the subject line. Or go to WP:HighBeam/Support, or ask User:Ocaasi. Please, per HighBeam's request, do not call the toll-free number for assistance with registration.
  • A quick reminder about using the account: 1) try it out; 2) provide original citation information, in addition to linking to a HighBeam article; 3) avoid bare links to non-free HighBeam pages; 4) note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate
  • HighBeam would love to hear feedback at WP:HighBeam/Experiences
  • Show off your HighBeam access by placing {{User:Ocaasi/highbeam_userbox}} on your userpage
  • When the 1-year period is up, check applications page to see if renewal is possible. We hope it will be.

Thanks for helping make Wikipedia better. Enjoy your research! Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 20:29, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Cracked

I fixed Cracked (magazine). I took me a while to suss out the reason for the empty strike tags, but I figured out that the reason why that was done was because the combinations of apostiphies combined in such a way that they were bolding some text inappropriately (2 apostophies, followed by three, then two and three, and all of the text following was bold until the end of the section). I have no idea what made whoever did it pick strike tags, but I changed them to <nowiki/>, which should keep anything from going wonky in the future (I hope). Regards,

Ah, I could have saved you some time there... I'd already whitelisted it at User:28bot/ignore! I guess I can take it off that list now. :) 28bytes (talk) 04:57, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
BTW, normally I swap in {{'s}} (that's what it's for) when I see just one or two of those, but since that article was filled with them I figured I'd just leave it be. 28bytes (talk) 05:00, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Yea, I really just wanted to see why it was blacklisted (or whitelisted, I guess). I didn't even know about the {{'s}} template, though! Now I'm gonna have to change them all to that! lol It just caught my interest is all, and then I figured out what was going on... *shrug*
— V = IR (Talk • Contribs) 05:07, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
I appreciate the interest in that list... working it all by myself for about a year, I could certainly use more eyes and hands! 28bytes (talk) 05:21, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Problem with my RFC

I've started an RFC at User talk:Jasper Deng/IPv6, but RFC bot failed to pay a visit. Is it because I'm doing this in my own userspace?--Jasper Deng (talk) 05:13, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

Quite possibly... I don't think I've ever seen an RfC on a user talk page before. 28bytes (talk) 05:18, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
Hhm... how do you think I would do by doing RFC bot's job?--Jasper Deng (talk) 05:20, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
By the way, since you have a bot that surely must parse user IP addresses, the RFC seems to be relevant to you--Jasper Deng (talk) 05:25, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
