Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd edit

Contributor(s): hchc2009 Nev1

All of these fortifications, forming the World Heritage site in North Wales, are now at GA, along with their builder, Edward I. #Hchc2009 (talk) 15:04, 3 January 2013 (UTC) --Hchc2009 (talk) 15:04, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Looks good to me. Nice to see a new field of interest here, too! GRAPPLE X 23:49, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am not convinced that the king should be included here, since this is a subtopic on him. Nergaal (talk) 19:09, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Being a newbie to the GA topic process, I'll go with whatever the consensus is on this! Hchc2009 (talk) 20:24, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • It could go either way. Inclusion makes sense but the topic wouldn't be considered incomplete if it wasn't in there. GRAPPLE X 20:26, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Support only without the king. Nergaal (talk) 19:56, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment main article lead says "The Castles and Town Walls..." - where I live, castles and town walls aren't proper nouns... is there a good reason for that particular capitalisation? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:10, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect its because that's the UN formal phrasing in the listing (I'm guessing because they see it as a proper noun, rather than a common one), but my grammar's not good enough to tell if that's correct or not! Hchc2009 (talk) 19:14, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Problem is that the other items in the topic use this terms inconsistently then, only the main article seems to capitalise "Castle" and "Town Wall". Should be reasonably easy to resolve? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:21, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I may be missing the bits concerned (has been a long day at work!), but I think the others do capitalise the phrase "Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd"; which ones have missed it? Hchc2009 (talk) 19:26, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thing is, even if that's the case, why? Castle and town wall are not proper nouns. The other good articles talk about other "castles" and "town walls", so why is the main article using this odd capitalisation? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:52, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I can raise the question with the UNESCO World Heritage Site project if you like (NB: I inherited the title when I improved the article, so have no vested interest here!). I suspect, though, that there is a difference between "the castles and town walls built by Edward in Gwynedd" and the more limited, and specific, "Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd" - the formal UN title of the sits which the article is about. The MOS guidance on "Political or geographical units" might well support this (e.g. the MOS has "The City of Smithville has a population of 55,000" but "The city has a population of 55,000") Hchc2009 (talk) 20:03, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I understand. So in that case, UNESCO make no mention of Conwy town walls (for instance), just to be sure? The Rambling Man (talk) 20:10, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Have checked. Both UNESCO and Cadw (the current owners) use the specific phrase "Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd" with capitals when talking about the inscribed site (to use the legal phrase!), but when talking about the castles and town walls more generally use phrases like "four castles", "fortified walls", " four great castles and two sets of town walls" etc. without capitals. Hchc2009 (talk) 14:02, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, cool, thanks very much for making the effort! The Rambling Man (talk) 14:07, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! :) Hchc2009 (talk) 14:11, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Support and thanks again for responding kindly to my pickiness. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:13, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Since there is a Support on the topic to have without the king being part of it, there's needs to be a consensus on weither the article should remain or not. GamerPro64 16:35, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm entirely neutral on the matter, so I would assume then that since the only specific opinion on the matter is for it not to be included then it should go through without. That does open the door for this, as a subtopic, to be part of a broader topic on the king I guess. GRAPPLE X 16:43, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Quién Dijo Ayer edit

Contributor(s): Hahc21

Quién Dijo Ayer is a compilation album released by Guatemalan singer-songwriter Ricardo Arjona. The album spawned two commercially successful singles, "Quién", which reached number four on the Billboard Latin Pop Songs chart, and "Quiero", which reached number eight. After some hard work, I've got the articles up to standard. Two of them are already good articles, and the third is awaiting to be reviewed after being listed at WP:GAN over two weeks ago. — ΛΧΣ21 06:34, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm just gonna have this review on Hold until "Quiero" becomes a Good Article if that's alright. GamerPro64 06:46, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • Okay. That was exactly what I was thinking. Thanks GamerPro64. — ΛΧΣ21 06:54, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • Okay. Quiero is GA now. We can proceed. — ΛΧΣ21 00:08, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
        • Alright. The nomination can continue. GamerPro64 16:01, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • How come a compilation album contains two new songs/singles? Nergaal (talk) 19:57, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Ask Ricardo Arjona about that. He recorded 14 of his songs again with a different musical style and included three new songs on the first disc. Two of them released as singles. Amazing huh? :) — ΛΧΣ21 20:05, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Casting Crowns studio albums edit

Contributor(s): Toa Nidhiki05

Articles all meet GA criteria and have no issues preventing inclusion. I've worked on these articles for a while now and am glad they are all of good article quality, and I feel this would be an excellent good topic. --Toa Nidhiki05 04:29, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't Peace on Earth (Casting Crowns album) be included? They were in the studio for the album, and they wrote songs for it. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:28, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed; it might not be a "proper" album but it's certainly a studio album (much as, say Garage, Inc. would be a studio album but not a "proper" album). I do see where the topic is going but it's hard to set a definition for that kind of "real" album without it being too OR-ish. I don't mind this one sitting for a while if you'd like to work on Peace on Earth in the interim. GRAPPLE X 20:42, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would also prefer inclusion of the holiday album in the current topic before promotion. Nergaal (talk) 20:51, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be more than happy to improve the article to GA-status, provided this stays open in the interim (within reason, of course - maybe a week or so for improving and nomination). However, my GA nominees tend to take very long periods of time to pass - Come to the Well, for instance, was nominated on July 30 and wasn't reviewed until December 17. To expedite that and prevent this from being open forever, perhaps someone could review it once it is nominated to get it out of the way? Toa Nidhiki05 21:53, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do it. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:24, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support now. Hope you don't mind, but I updated the topic since I passed the article as a GA. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:35, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind, it saved me from having to do it. :P Toa Nidhiki05 00:39, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • So what exactly is the status of the Peace on Earth article? I see that it has not yet been nominated for GAN (nor do I believe it is currently ready for that). I assume the holidays intervened in Toa's plans, but an update on when things are expected to be completed would be nice. SilverserenC 11:58, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As of right now, I only need to make three more sections (Background and recording, Composition, and Chart performance) before it can be nominated. I have most of the citations for these so making them should not take too long. I apologize for the delay but the holiday season and resumption of school have both interfered with my availability on here. I should have the article ready by the end of the week at the latest. Toa Nidhiki05 16:16, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    Cool, no prob. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:49, 9 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but a few comments on the lead topic article, namely the featured list Casting Crowns discography:

  • Any reason why the indie albums aren't mentioned in the infobox?
  • "over 1 million copies" WP:MOSNUM says 1->one.
  • '2x Platinum[10]" there's a "multiplied sign" rather than just an x.
  • Who Am I doesn't appear to have a ? after it in our article.
  • The O in "Jesus, Friend of Sinners" is small allegedly (like the template).
  • Just a polite question, have Casting Crowns' releases (any of them) ever charted in any territory outside of the US?

The Rambling Man (talk) 19:53, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'll fixI've fixed all those issues but to answer the last question, the answer is yes. Come to the Well charted at number 69 in Canada and number 8 in New Zealand, but to my knowledge none of their others have. Canada is the most likely where they could have charted, but Billboard only publishes a small number of albums overall (around 30 or so) out of the 100 charting albums. Jam! (prior to the removal of the feature) used to publish 100 albums off the same SoundScan number, but it had no archive so I can't confirm it. Toa Nidhiki05 20:06, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Could you include those "outside the US" charting numbers so we get a better feel that this isn't just a US-only phenomenon? The Rambling Man (talk) 20:08, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sure; the reason I didn't include them was that I wasn't sure they should be included given they only charted once in each, but I will include them now. Toa Nidhiki05 20:11, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, I just think it adds an element of diversity and a welcome one at that. Thanks for addressing my comments so swiftly. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:18, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problem - if I'm online odds are I'm checking my watchlist regularly, so I was able to see the comments and address them quickly. I agree, it does add that element of diversity that many CCM/Christian rock articles would lack (mainly due to fact most CCM/Christian rock artists, even major ones, don't chart outside the US). Toa Nidhiki05 20:21, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Comment my major concerns are now addressed but please do check the references of the GAs which complete the topic, I note a few dead links there which goes against the FT criterion 3 which states: "Each article or list is of high quality, including the referencing." (my bold). The Rambling Man (talk) 21:10, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've looked through them real quick and don't see any dead link templates. Which citations did you notice were dead? If it was the year-end and decade-end ones, that would be because Billboard recently decided to hide those behind a paywall. The links still work, you just need to pay them money to get the info. :) Toa Nidhiki05 21:24, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
