Malayalee

Hello,

There's a problem in the Malayalee article. The points of contention are the following:

  • Dayaanjali doesn't want the article to mention that marumakkathayam (matrilineality/matrifocality) were practiced by the Nairs. i.e., as a community, Nairs were known to be matrifocal/matrilineal, and a martial class.
  • Dayaanjali insists the the words "Malayali" comes from the Malayalam words Malai and Aali. Historically, the region has been known as Malayalam before the genesis of the Malayalam language. Hence, the words probably originated from old Tamil. He also seems to think that Malayalam originated independently of Tamil, whereas (facts aside) all linguists state that Malayalam split off from Tamil about 800 AD or 900 AD.

Since you are active in Kerala-related articles, I request you to take a look at this matter. Dayaanjali seems unwilling to discuss changes in the talk page. Initially we had a discussion. I provided references to support my points. After this, he has refused to discuss the points, claiming that my edits are "unverified". The discussion is here. --vi5in[talk] 06:45, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi I firmly believe that Malayalam developed independently having more influence from Tamil. Having said that, the language has similarities with other languages in south india. It has loaned words from sanskrit and many foriegn languages. Its grammatic styles are similar to Tamil. Script is more similar to Tulu Script. Even then You cannot call it new language. The people of malabar cost was using languague which was different from Tamil even during Sangam period, though part of same kingdoms as that of present day Tamil Nadu. The people are different, the culture is different, the script is different. The words Mala and ali are there in many languages in south india and foreign languages like Sinhala, Thai etc. Its not known where the words come any paryicular language. And about customs of Nair cast, its not specific to nairs. More than that this is not the article that you can list out all the customs and tradition of aparticular community. You have a separate article where you can add details. Daya Anjali (talk / contribs) 09:09, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
I'd suggest you folks to seek dispute resolution. utcursch | talk 13:51, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

You block this user indef for vandal only, which I totally agree with, but you put a temporary block tag on their user page. I changed it to a {{vandalblock}} tag, which I thought was more approrpiate. Hope that's okay. Rlevse 14:49, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

My mistake, thanks for correcting it. utcursch | talk 14:50, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

People's Car

"'People's Car'" is only a nickname" That didn't stop 100 dollar laptop from having it's own article before it got an official name. People's Car by itself is probably notable, and if so deserves an article. It's common for a model of car to have its own article. Rm999 04:27, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

I've no problem with an article on Tata Motor's People's Car. My point was that since "People's Car" is not the official name of the car announced by the company, that page is better off as a disambiguation page. utcursch | talk 10:53, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Katrina Kaif article needs attention

Since you seem to have identified my interest in this article... :)

User:Abhayonline clearly doesn't get it about copyrights. He does not appear to be the owner of the pictures he is uploading (I have seen them all over the place for ages - simple Google search will show them), yet maintains that it is OK to use those pictures and even tries to license them under the GDFL! Check out Image:Katrina_kaif_07.jpg, here he says "This is a photo of indian actress called katrina kaif. i took it 6 months ago. this photo will be used in katrina kaif's article. this not a copy righted photo. anyone can use it.", and then happily places the GDFL tag on it! He has edited and reedited the Katrina Kaif article, removing licensed photos and placing this one there. He removes warnings, blanks out his talk page where others have warned him as well, etc. He clearly doesn't understand Wikipedia. What does a frustrated editor do? Achitnis 16:05, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

IP 209.174.75.4

Hello. I am just warning you that the IP listed above has vandalized another page (Betty Ford), and although the vandlism was minor, the message on his/her talk page from two weeks ago stated that if the IP vandalized again, he/she would be blocked. I am notifying you that he/she has, and since you were the last one to warn him/her to stop, and I don't quite know how to report vandals, I am letting you know. Thanks, Happyme22 18:39, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

Removal of unreferenced pictures

Hi. I just want to tell you that when you removed a nonexistent pic in damsel in distress, the name of the file had been changed by a vandal a few minutes prior to your involvement. If you see pictures like this, or anything odd in an article, you can look at its edit history and click undo next to the vandal's edit, or you can revert their harmful edits altogether, then leave the appropriate warning on the perpetrator's talk page. Thanks for the heads up, though. --Blanchardb 14:22, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Rajnikanth

Hello Utcursch,
I hate bringing this issue to you again, but I'm now helpless. The much unwanted fight over scripts has now started again in Rajnikanth article. You know all the background about this issue, when Mahawiki was in conflict with few others. Some of those discussions are in your archives. That time, after your mediation, the issue was settled with the decision of keeping all the three relevant scripts. But unfortunately that status quo has been disturbed now. I request you to look into the recent history of this article, and please do the needful. Thank you! - KNM Talk 18:55, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

"'please don't upload pictures with copyright issues."

i've been listening to that for over two months now and my patience is sinking.the whole point of People doing the admin's job is for the objectivity and discretion beholden to the human spirit.Mr.zubin is a busy man and the school website has been untouched for over a year.the only enthusiast in yours truly trying his best to preserve a page that gets ripped every third day.i fail to understand where i breach the big book of rules? it only makes me believe more in the fact that one day we'll all be american, smarter than our children,if you know what i mean. please help with the APPROPRIATE COPYRIGHT TAGS as NO ONE SEEMS TO BE INTERESTED.or let wikipedia be another haunt for the bots ,as it is i'm getting pretty nervy about the whole digital revolution, thanks a lot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amanbirgrewal (talkcontribs)

Wikipedia:Peer review/Asha Bhosle/archive1

Some user has sent his suggestions and I think it's great. His main problem was - references. Since you are the one who wrote the article, could you tell me which sites you were using? I think it's the first step towards a higher status.

I'll add refs and make some touches as the reviewer suggested. Best regards, ShahidTalk2me 11:45, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Oh that's great! I'm so excited about that! I just can't wait to see it reaching a high status! I'm here to help you, thanks, ShahidTalk2me 11:50, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
BTW, the lead looks quite good but it's actually short. As per WP:LEAD it has to summarize the article. We could write about her singing style or something like this. What do you say?
Oh yeh and I'd like to add awards box? What do you think? Should I? ShahidTalk2me 12:31, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Block on 168.8.132.2

Yesterday (18 Oct) I reported 168.8.132.2 to WP:AIV for repeated vandalism after many warnings, and that IP's block log shows that at 16:35 you blocked it for 6 months - good. However at 21:06 that user managed to blank its own talk page. I have reverted the blanking, but the talk page doesn't show the block. Does that matter? Will someone accessing Wikipedia from that IP know that they can't edit, and why? JohnCD 17:19, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

It's interesting to note this user's last edit asked on how to make an account, which I answered on his talk page. I'd assume he or she created a username before the block. Vandalism on Yukon

Thank you for your reverts. I am still a relatively new contributor and I find this vandalism so depressing, what a boring job for administrators to do, reverts reverts reverts! Is there a statistic page somewhere to show which pages are subjected to most vandalism? and it seems to me that Yukon is rife with it, or is this only my impression? Cheers--Tallard 06:18, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Agrawal

Your reason for removing the edits 'unsourced' is not justified! Are you telling me every single word in the topic is referenced?????

I have made accurate additions to this topic based on a large Agrawal community prevalent in the UK. The other minor edits I made were also accurate but you seem intent on vandalising this topic by censoring the information so that it is only what you like to see. No wonder wikipedia is getting such a bad reputation as an unreliable encyclopedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.213.184.133 (talk) 09:43, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
