Sfan, would you check pages for vandalism before nominating them? Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 23:29, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Dipali Barthakur

In reply to Incomplete DYK nomination.

Could you explain me what is the problem with DYK for Dipali Barthakur. After viewing the step 3 of the nomination procedure I found nothing wrong in the nomination. As I am new to DYK chapter, a little help from you will help me to know my mistakes. Thanks. Bishnu Saikia (talk) 18:41, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The problem is that no one can see your nomination yet. Step 3 (as listed on the T:TDYK page) is taking your successfully created nomination and "transcluding" it (making it visible) on that Template Talk:Did You Know page so people can see it. Since you created the Dipali Barthakur article on April 2, go to the April 2 section on that page, and insert the line "Template:Did you know nominations/Dipali Barthakur", with two "{" before it and two "}" after it, at the top of the list of other lines that are already there (also starting and ending with those same brace characters). That will allow people to see your nomination and eventually review it. Step 3 is the key step that makes your nomination visible to everyone else. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:29, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

DYKUpdateBot

failed to update at 00:00 UTC on 4 April. I haven't noticed any obvious problem with the queue 6 code (which doesn't mean there was none though :-). Materialscientist (talk) 00:50, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

  • DYKHousekeepingBot also appears to have fallen over: the last update was 14:41 on April 3 (UTC), over 12 hours ago. Anything you can do to wake the sleeping giants will be greatly appreciated. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:11, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
  • Both bots restarted. Looks like the server they live on was rebooted, but I didn't see any emails about server maintenance. Thanks for letting me know! Shubinator (talk) 03:36, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
  • Thank you for restarting them! Materialscientist deserves the credit for noticing; I only noticed because the post here showed up in my Watchlist. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:54, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

The bot failed at 00:00 UTC on 6 April, most likely due to server problems (toolserver applications are dead). Please check if you can restore the bot. Materialscientist (talk) 00:43, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Both bots are functioning normally. Judging by the logs, the server hung for around 6 hours, but now everything's back to normal. Very odd though. Shubinator (talk) 03:46, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Socking

Why must you continually use sock puppets ??? You do know it is against the wiki rules. 13:47, 5 April 2013 (UTC) Anon(I am not using my actual account for fear of repercussions from you as I don't want to deal with the usual abuse) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.106.33.42 (talk)

08:30, April 6, 2013 (UTC) update run for DYKUpdateBot

Looks like the server problems continue. The 08:30, April 6, 2013 (UTC) update was performed manually. --Allen3 talk 08:56, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Both bots started up again. The server was apparently rebooted at ~05:30. There's a thread on Toolserver-l about the issues everyone's been seeing; hopefully it'll be resolved soon. Thanks for letting me know! Shubinator (talk) 17:48, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

DYKbot again

Please restart it if possible - the bot failed to update roughly between 1 and 6 am UTC on 8 April. Some toolserver applications are not working, i.e., the servers are still unstable. Materialscientist (talk) 06:33, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

It's both bots: DYKHousekeepingBot's last update was 18:55 on April 7. Thanks for anything you can do! BlueMoonset (talk) 14:02, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
Both bots started up again; sorry for the delay. Looks like there may be another reboot coming in the next day or two to (hopefully) fix the issues everyone's been seeing. Thanks! Shubinator (talk) 06:19, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
Thank you, Shubinator. Just in time, too: right before the next update. I see the bot's on its 15 minute crawl to get back to the right time (adding 15 minutes in this case). I hope they let you know about the reboot so you can restart the bots fairly quickly. (It's good to have DYKHousekeepingBot working again, too.) BlueMoonset (talk) 06:58, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
Happy to help :) I've also been looking into moving both bots to Labs (WMF's long-term replacement for Toolserver), but Labs folks have been unresponsive, so I haven't made much headway there. It'll happen sooner or later though. Shubinator (talk) 14:34, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Will this affect DYKHousekeepingBot?

Shubinator, Amberrock just changed the image used for the AGF tick: details are in her post in WT:DYK#Replaced voting templates images. Will this affect the bot's ability to detect the tick? If so, can you please comment there? Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:15, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

I think it does. I've reverted to the previous image for as long as this isn't fixed. But the new image is called File:Symbol voting keep.svg (as opposed to the current File:Pictogram voting keep.svg). Can you update the bot?—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 17:48, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
Amber, is there any reason it can't be called something like "AGF voting keep"? I'd always wondered why it hadn't had AGF as part of its name, for clarity's sake. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:23, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Would this be an opportunity to update the bot to recognize the new "again" red arrow as one of the icons it should pay attention to? As far as I'm concerned, the "again" should cancel out either of ticks: if there's a reason that a new reviewer is needed, the nomination should probably not be showing up as "verified". The original version of the icon was added to five existing ones, but I don't believe there was any request at the time to have the bot be adjusted to account for it. Now that we have a new image file, it could be the time for it to be taken into consideration by the bot. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:57, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Well, it's perfectly possible for a DYK nomination to first have a bunch of red again links listed, before it is ticked or AGFticked. The bot would need to recognize that the red arrow is below the tick symbols, otherwise the point of that addition to the bot's code would be moot. —♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 09:43, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
And BlueMoonset: the first icon didn't have "AGF" in the name, because that icon was not purposely designed for the DYK process. It's part of an Creative Commons icons set that also includes plus and minus symbols - things we don't use for DYK - out of which someone handpicked the faded blue check to serve as tickAGFitem.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 09:46, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Currently the bot keys off of these images:
  • approved = Symbol confirmed.svg;
  • AGF approved = Pictogram voting keep.svg
  • question = Symbol question.svg
  • unlikely = Symbol possible vote.svg
  • no = Symbol delete vote.svg
It's fairly simple to change the AGF image to the new one; I can do it this weekend. As for the red again arrow, yeah, I think that's doable. The bot already has logic to "cancel out" an approved tick if an unlikely/question/no image is found below the approved. Will take a look this weekend. Shubinator (talk) 14:39, 25 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your cooperation! When you do the image link change, can you quickly revert the last edit on {{DYKtickAGF}}? When that is done, I will go through T:TDYK then and change all "old" images to the new one.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 17:29, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

How is the polishing of the housekeeping bot's code coming along?—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 10:45, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, ran out of time this weekend. I'll get to it when I find time, which will hopefully be this weekend. Thanks for the reminder. Shubinator (talk) 13:56, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
Alright, keep me posted!—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 18:00, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
