Sometimes when one re-reads a repeatedly edited sentence, one realizes it no longer makes sense.
A long time ago there was
"In the Mediterranean, computer modelling and historical reports show that the eruption led to cold weather, snowfall, famines and a failure of the floods on the Nile; together with political crises at the moment it may have contributed to the downfall of the Ptolemaic dynasty in Egypt and its absorption by the Roman Republic."
Then it became
"In the Mediterranean, computer modelling and historical reports show that the eruption led to cold weather, snowfall, famines and a failure of the floods on the Nile, causing an economic and social crisis in Egypt. While it recovered in the following years, the longer-term effects of the famine and the increased interest the Roman Republic manifested after the crisis in Egypt's food resources contributed to the final collapse of the Ptolemaic Dynasty after the 31 BCE Battle of Actium."
Later it became
"In the Mediterranean, computer modeling and historical reports show that the eruption led to cold weather, snowfall, famines and a failure of the floods on the Nile, causing an economic and social crisis in Egypt. While it recovered in the following years, the longer-term effects of the famine and the increased interest the Roman Republic, which was itself affected by a serious crisis, manifested in Egypt's food resources contributed to the final collapse of the Ptolemaic dynasty and the Roman Republic after the 31 BCE Battle of Actium, leading to the Roman Empire."
It was already hard enough to follow
"... increased interest the Roman Republic manifested after the crisis in Egypt's food resources ..."
but then with all the added intertwined Roman this Egypt that who can divine what intricacies were intended? There's far too many blackbirds in this pie. Did the volcano win the Battle of Actium ? Was the Roman Empire really a consequence of an Alaskan Volcano two decades earlier? Look again at the older version. What more is *really* needed as additions? Shenme (talk) 03:36, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
'fraid that I don't understand what you are saying here, either. I think there is a bit of a scientific controversy about whether singular climate events can precipitate certain geopolitical events or whether the events would have happened even without the singular climate event, hence the "may" in the article. Guallatiri at TFA

Any objection to changing "in historical times" to "since prehistoric times"? This is one of those weirdnesses in language education ... just about everyone has at least a rough idea what "prehistoric" means, but most get the intended meaning of "historical" wrong. Also, would it make sense to mention that "Guallatiri is the second-most active volcano (after Lascar) in northern Chile."? - Dank (push to talk) 19:18, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
