Help with article Glossary of Belly Dance Terms

Hi! I saw that you had contributed to the article on Belly Dance. I have created an article “Glossary of Belly Dance Terms” because many of my dance students have been asking for it. I am new to Wikipedia and I was hoping that you would be able to help out by contributing or helping with formatting (I need that!) or adding citations. Thanks! MonicaDance (talk) 21:22, 25 May 2014 (UTC)

I appreciate the thought, but it's likely that I only contributed by reverting vandalism. There are not many things I know less about than Belly Dancing, lol. It seems like a decent start. Adding incoming links from other pages and adding categories seems like a good next step. Best, IronGargoyle (talk) 11:38, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

Head's up

Hey, just wanted to let you know that I extended the block on User:Ignitepictures because it looked to be the name of one of the companies involved with the movies. I wanted to let you know just so I didn't step on your toes or anything. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 03:06, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

No problem. It seems like a good block extension. Best, IronGargoyle (talk) 11:39, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

Redlinks, II

Guidance on redlinks at the Beer in New Zealand page? That's almost entirely unsourced redlinks. I'm happy to trim it back, but wanted to get your judgment on that. Prof. Mc (talk) 11:41, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

I think they should be removed. I'll probably get to them at some point if you don't. Best, IronGargoyle (talk) 13:49, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

Message to IronGargoyle

With modesty i wanted to ask wich of the parts that i edited in the Jiro Ono page where not needed. Even though i saw these edits as a inprovment to the info that was provided by this page. that is why i reverted it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.82.235.107 (talk) 15:26, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm not sure. I reverted your IP address on another page (Billy Joel). This may or may not have been you. Sometimes multiple people use the same IP address. I didn't revert your edits to Jiro Ono. That was another editor. You will have to ask them. IronGargoyle (talk) 01:05, 27 May 2014 (UTC).

Waste of our time

You cannot claim to be a complete novice to Wikipedia, so I assume you're pet peeve is "red links in lists of people" and just don't care about niceties like WP:DIS or WP:TALK nor if a list is carefully supervised or a random opportunity for people to add their name to. You've forgotten that you've pulled your dragnet through the list of oboists before, in August and November 2012 and June 2013, also without ever leaving a word on the talk page. Though it has been a lot of work creating a reasonable list like this and keeping it clean over time, I'd taken those assaults largely on the chin (it costs just too much time) and, among the 44 deleted contemporary artists, I only reinserted 6 (just some of the most outrageous ones, like Ray Still, who now has an article). Your standards seem to have changed for the worse and, while you're only at the letter H, you've deleted 47 more contemporary oboists, only 1 postdating your last purge. What gives? Are you gonna delete Ray Still again?

The first time you came by you deleted all 50 or so red-linked oboists with a reference to an article in the Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, making you a club of one thinking that that is not a reliable source. Since you admit to not having any knowledge on the subject, why would anyone have faith in you deciding what link provided is and isn't a reliable source? For example, you discount third person bios on famous orchestra and conservatory/music school sites. Oboists generally are not celebrities; while playing first or indeed second chair for the Berlin, Concertgebouw or even the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra compares to being in the starting lineup for an NBA team, it may be impossible to find a what you would call independent biography online. You now also don't accept non-English Wikipedia bios; pray tell me where in WP:LISTPEOPLE it says that a page like Sandro Caldini makes one worth including in the list while, say, a page like de:Emanuel Abbühl doesn't (I've left the obviously just self-promoting Wikipedia (English or otherwise) bios off the list already). If you find dead links, you could try to follow WP:LR and fix or simply tag those, rather than deleting the whole line. If you find a source dubious, you can tag it as well and give other people a chance to improve on it, with above limitations in mind. Since these are such basic Wikipedia guidelines, my guess is that you've made your own interpretation of WP:LISTPEOPLE that overrules them all. Afasmit (talk) 23:17, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

I don't mean any offence, but the list is in terrible shape. WP:LISTPEOPLE is very straightforward. Entries on lists of people need to be bluelinks or redlinks with reliable sources that speak to their notability. If the list entry has an article and is an oboist, it obviously wouldn't be deleted. So, no, I won't be deleting Ray Still. You'll notice that I also studiously avoided deleting the Grove Dictionary entries. I am deleting entries that don't have an article on the English Wikipedia and don't have independent reliable sources (in other words, I remove redlinks with only faculty bios, personal websites, record company bios, etc.) IronGargoyle (talk) 00:17, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Recent edits to List of Jamaican record producers

Hello, and thank you for your recent contributions. I appreciate the effort you made for our project, but unfortunately I had to undo some of your edit(s) because I believe the article was better before you made that change. Feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions. Thank you! 71.82.112.140 (talk) 18:14, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Please review the WP:LISTPEOPLE guideline. Entries in lists of people should have Wikipedia articles already, or they should have independent, reliable sources which verify their notability and membership in the category. IronGargoyle (talk) 18:17, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

The IP that you threatened to block without warning for adding false information to articles here is at it again. I'd take him to ANI except for the fact that he hasn't actually received a full suite of warning templates. Note that this user has, in the past, added the same sorts of nonsense to many of the same articles from dynamic IPs in the 139.193.xxx range. Deor (talk) 13:11, 7 June 2014 (UTC)

Your reversion at Pir Sadardin

This IP is copying text into multiple articles from [1]. I'll block him shortly. Dougweller (talk) 16:03, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Could you please check this issue of paid editing out and possibly block certain users and/or IP addresses

I strongly believe that employees of Advisorshares, fund.com and/or Arrow Invesment Advisors are editing the “Advisorsshares” and Fund.com Wikipedia pages. First of all, Advisorshares and Arrow Invesment are both based in Maryland and there have been an unusual amount of ip edits in the history sections that come from near both firms headquarters in Maryland according to Wikipeida’s suggested geotag sites. In fact one edit on the Fund.com page from March 20, 2014 71.178.252.123 traced back to ARROW INVESTMENT ADVISORS using the WHOIS tool. Other IP address from around Advisorshares’ headquarters in Bethesda Maryland, include: 50.242.249.233 70.192.219.184 96.231.135.99 75.103.6.172 96.231.154.15 72.83.136.15

A username “AdvisorShares” made an edit before it was banned on Feb. 14, There’s a large possibility that this was a paid employee of Advisorshares trying to put an ‘official’ entry, which is just firm marketing material. This account was quickly blocked by IronGargoyle. These two usernames seem to be sock puppets of the same user (probably an Advisorshares or fund.com employee): UserNameUnderContruction which edited the “Advisorshares” page and “ETFinvestor” which edited the Fund.com page. They deleted basically the same sentence on May 26 and May 27 respectively. On the Advisorshares history it took away 331 bytes in the history and on the fund.com page it took away 337 bytes. Other possible sock puppets of this same user include, Babylon1894 and Jigsaw574 UserNameUnderConstruction has been warned twice on their talk page that if they are a paid employee of a company whose page they are editing, they need to declare it. Both times they avoid answering if they are a paid employee or representative and claim that other users can’t make such assumptions.Tempuser788 (talk) 19:06, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

There could very well be something shady going on, but I would suggest that you take this over to WP:SPI. I don't have the technical tools to investigate on the technical end of things (I'm not a checkuser), and I don't have the patience to get into a detailed behavioral investigation. Romanians

I'm not an expert on the demographics of Eastern Europe, but I don't think that's accurate. There are certainly Roma people in Romania, but all Romanians are not Roma (or Gypsies). Anything you add should have a verifiable, reliable source. If you don't have that, it shouldn't be added to the article. IronGargoyle (talk) 16:04, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

Heaven Sent Gaming

Heaven Sent Gaming was just recreated by the same new user who filed the DRV. I realize that you said that there were no official restrictions on the recreation of the article, but surely this has reached the point of disruption by now? The article was deleted through proper process, recreated, speedily deleted, challenged at DRV, and upheld. How many times do we have to go through this process before the article is finally salted? NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 06:44, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

It seems as though the situation has resolved itself for now. IronGargoyle (talk) 19:40, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Sevan Nişanyan

You need to undo all the deletes to this page and the redirects. The article Sevan Nişanyan has been an around for awhile. A user has moved it to User talk:Sevan Nisanyan. This is the second time it has happened. Bgwhite (talk) 17:34, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

The page wasn't deleted, the cross-space redirects were. The article was terrible, was a likely autobiography and seems to have only been around since the end of June. I see my actions as being an WP:IAR version of WP:CSD#G7. As no content was deleted, however, you're certainly welcome to move that content back to mainspace if you feel it is of suitable quality. IronGargoyle (talk) 17:41, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
The page was moved to a non-existent user talk page. If you see it as G7, then delete the talk page or move it to the creating user's sandbox. You are now the 7th person in the last 24-hours to use IAR. So far, biographies don't need refs and I don't have to follow accessibility guidelines and changing referencing scheme to another one take the top 3. fyi... quality is not a reason for deletion. Bgwhite (talk) 17:58, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
How is the fact that I'm the 7th person in 24 hours to use IAR in any way relevant? IAR is a core Wikipedia policy. I said politely that you're welcome to move it back. The fact that it's a biography of a living person without reliable sources is indeed a reason for deletion though. IronGargoyle (talk) 18:03, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
I've moved the page to Draft:Sevan Nisanyan to address your other concern. Do with the page what you will. IronGargoyle (talk) 18:07, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, I wasn't directing my IAR comment towards yours. Just stating the unusually high number and some of the lame reasons. Thought it might interest you. I should have phrased it better. I apologize. Bgwhite (talk) 21:04, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

RE: Life of female electronic musicians

" If a person in a list does not have a Wikipedia article about them, a citation (or link to another article) must be provided to: a) establish their membership in the list's group; and b) to establish their notability on either BLP1E or BIO1E." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chloe.stamper (talkcontribs) 23:08, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

It doesn't establish that the musicians themselves are notable. It simply establishes that the groups are notable. IronGargoyle (talk) 23:12, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
How is that justification for their exclusion from this list? Numerous musicians on this list do not have their own page and are only referenced on a group or band page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chloe.stamper (talkcontribs) 23:37, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
If you'll notice, the entries I left are still linked to the musician. The "regular" name is not linked, but the second name is linked to a stage name or a solo act which is primarily about the individual musician. IronGargoyle (talk) 23:42, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Ivor Callely

Dear Iron Gargoyle, I see that about five or six minutes ago you reverted my changes about Ivor Callely the Irish former politician who, yesterday, was jailed for five months for fraud. I would never make any unfounded remark on the Internet about anyone. I have to go now but I will revise the article later this evening with links to Irish newspapers referring to both the case and Mr. Callely's imprisonment, which happened yesterday.

Message to Iron Gargoyle

I understand your concern. My intention is not to commercialize the information I am trying to add. My concern is that there are a few other bands under the moniker SubRosa, and they should be differentiated from one another. I am absolutely fine with adding the information and leaving out the link. Do you find that acceptable? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.2.213.125 (talk) 20:10, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

Perhaps the best course of action is to create a wikipedia page just for this particular band, as they are becoming more well-known and want to avoid any other musical acts being mistaken for them. If you have the time and are so inclined, would you help me in this endeavor? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.2.213.125 (talk) 20:41, 30 July 2014 (UTC)

If coverage of the band can be found in reliable, independent sources, sure you can write an article. If not, they should not be mentioned on Wikipedia at all. IronGargoyle (talk) 15:18, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

Lower to semi-protection? I can't ask Anomie because s/he may seem reluctant to read my requests, as s/he did to template:prose. --George Ho (talk) 23:49, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

It's a bit unclear why Anomie responded with confusion about your asking, but the advice given is still sound. I am hesitant to change the protection level for a couple of reasons: First of all, Anomie was the last administrator to change the protection. Second, I think a template of this usage level should be more than semi-protected. If you just want to edit this particular template, I would bring up the change on the template's talk page. Alternatively, you can follow Anomie's advice and request a protection change at WP:RFPP. Or, you can request the template editor user right if you want to do more template work than just this one. Alaskan Breweries

Hello IronGargoyle,

I'm pretty new to trying to edit wikipedia; in fact editing the list of breweries in Alaska was my first ever attempt to actually contribute to Wikipedia. I made the edits before I had created a profile for myself, so the edits were listed under my IP address. Anyway, I saw that you have reverted/undone my changes and I would like to learn from my mistakes. Please let me know what I could have done differently to have made those edits acceptable. I've been using Wikipedia for years and thought that I could show a little support by helping to keep content up to date. --AKFreshTracks (talk) 17:07, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

The information needs to be verifiable from reliable and independent sources. It's also worth mentioning that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a directory. Not every single business should be mentioned, only the ones that are described in sources as I said. IronGargoyle (talk) 20:38, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

The picture on the Park Bom page is not Park Bom we have been trying to change it but it somehow still is up there. Google park bom and you can see the picture on the wiki page is not her, but uet you still have it on your page.

The information about the "drug" scandal is false as Park Bom's management herself sent a letter saying she left the Roommate show for personal issues. I dont know why you let people post rumors on her page,

It seems like a person who doesnt like Park bom have done 2 things that we are trying to correct, false park bom image and false rumors of Drug scandal I would appreciate if you could let us fix this.

Still not appropriate phrasing for the lead of the article. Please see WP:NPOV and WP:BLP. IronGargoyle (talk) 22:36, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

What is the best way to put a reference in for these micro breweries?

I am just trying to figure out the best way to reference these — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vchapman (talkcontribs) 17:48, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

  • Never mind, I think I got it right. Sorry, not spaming, but haven't done much on wikipedia in about 5 years prior to college. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vchapman (talkcontribs) 18:12, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
The issue was not so much of formatting, and more an issue of using sources that were the brewery websites themselves (instead of independent, reliable sources). You seem to be on the right track now though. IronGargoyle (talk) 18:18, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
    • Thanks, yeah I figured that out with the initial reversion. Thanks, Vinnie — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vchapman (talkcontribs) 18:27, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Bears FC

I delete squad because I will put new team this team is not correct — Preceding unsigned comment added by Trobinson66 (talkcontribs) 08:34, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Use of an edit summary would help to clarify that in the future. IronGargoyle (talk) 00:14, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Bullmastiff

Bullmastiffs bark all the time! You clearly do not own one... the wikipage is incorrect and misleading. I can support with video evidence and breed paper work if you like. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GatechWojo (talkcontribs) 15:30, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia is only for verifiable information from reliable sources. It's not for information about your own personal pet, however noisy. IronGargoyle (talk) 00:13, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

The guy that created the Jin Li article

It was a duplicate of what he already created. Also not sure if it reaches notability. I put a AFD up for the first one just now! Wgolf (talk) 17:33, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Cult-Puppet of Evodelusion

No Different than Communist who block out the true history to public.

felt Sad for all those evo-blinders exist in our societies, who (force to) don't know the truth nor did they have the ability to think independently. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.93.49.51 (talk) 22:39, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Link removal

Hi IronGargoyle,

The link that I added and you swiftly removed provided the same contextual as the rest of the links in the section; links to current Workstation computer manufacturers. Can you tell me what about their links make them valid and not the one I posted? 184.98.230.1 (talk) 23:47, 14 October 2014 (UTC)DH

The principle of WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS applies. Just because something else there is breaking the rules, doesn't give your link special protection. Removal of the other links would likely be appropriate. IronGargoyle (talk) 16:19, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Dan Bongino / Daniel Bongino

A year ago you posted at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2013 October 17 about unprotecting Dan Bongino. Can the same be done to Daniel Bongino to change the redirect? I don't know the process. -- Pemilligan (talk) 15:16, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Fixed. IronGargoyle (talk) 16:21, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! -- Pemilligan (talk) 16:29, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Jean-Michel Casa

Hello. Can you please let me know what the page looked like when you deleted it? Perhaps it was just an unreferenced stub, or he had not yet been appointed Ambassador. American Ambassadors all have a page and I don't see why French Ambassadors shouldn't either.Zigzig20s (talk) 14:38, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

It wasn't even a stub (though it was tagged as such). It was two external links and a category with no content whatsoever. IronGargoyle (talk) 14:57, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Re: User talk:Cdebary's edits on Williams College Museum of Art

It would be productive for Wikipedia if editors would read edit summaries instead of blindly issuing generic templates. ⁓ Hello71 14:04, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
