Draft stealing by User:TheArticleWizardsApprentice from User:Aakheperure

Hello, this concerns a recent histmerge/move you did with a draft taken from another user's subpage: User:Aakheperure/Tarek Naga draft

Please be aware that the user this was taken from (User:Aakheperure) has had his articles 'stolen' before without his consent. The previous user (User:Mr ArticleEditor) who did that has been blocked for being a sockpuppet. Users like User:TheArticleWizardsApprentice and User:Mr ArticleEditor seem to be trawling for drafts in userspaces and co-opting them so they can pose as established editors wrongly. The intent is malicious, so I ask you to be wary of similar copy-paste moves in the future.

You were already aware that User:TheArticleWizardsApprentice was giving himself false barnstars, shouldn't that have raised warning flags?

Anyway, User:Aakheperure has been through three such unauthorized moves of his drafts and it's understandably upsetting. Please at least check with the user who owns the drafts before moving the articles they have on their userpages.Thanks --Obsidi♠nSoul 10:20, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Obsidian Soul. Sorry, that was my mistake completley. I wrongly thought that a page that was histmerged could exist in two places, i.e ArticleWizardsApprentice would have a copy in his userspace, with correct attribution, and the old user's page would still exist. Oh, gotcha then (I'm also not very familiar with how histmerges work, heh). No worries though, wasn't blaming anyone. Just very worried about the 'victim' of this draft 'stealing' and letting you know in case this happens again. Just hoping Aakheperure won't quit after all he's been through. :/ I know no articles are the 'property' of anyone in Wikipedia, and anyone can copy a draft and improve it in their own userspace. But doing so without the consent of the original author is extremely rude, as well as (in this case) something done by someone clearly up to no good. ABUSE request

Hi Acather96, I came across your name in the list of "Contacter" volunteers for abuse response. I am writing to you specifically as you have listed your location as the UK. Since October 2007, Wikipedia has been being visited by and vandalized by an obnoxious character from the Bath region that goes by either Sam Locke or Samlaptop. This person has been blocked over 150 times in en.Wikipedia and its sister projects and he continues to vandalize today. I filed this ABUSE report in September 2009 and the case was accepted and assigned to User:Jamesofur (who I am not certain is volunteering for ABUSE any longer). Jamesofur contacted Sam's ISP but to date there has been no response. Recently I have come up with another idea for how to stop the vandalism and I have outlined it here. I was wondering whether Contacters are allowed to contact institutions other than ISPs and, if so, whether you would be willing to try my new idea. It's not guaranteed to work, but I think it has a higher probability of curbing the vandalism as his school represents a smaller pool of concern than his ISP, and as his school has issued statements to the effect that they consider such actions to be educational opportunities for the students. OK, I'll have a look. I've never actually contacted an organization by phone today, but I'm definitely ready to give it a try. I don't think their are any guidelines against contacting non-ISP but related orgs, and I can't see why any of the other abuse team should object. As phone calls are hard to log, I'll request once speaking to the org if I can record the conversation, and then attach it to the abuse report. I have recently become worried that perhaps I am being too zealous in my efforts to finally clear up this issue and due to the recent request of the vandal I have removed the information concerning the name of his school, however I believe I am allowed to email you this information. I'm starting to feel worried now. I rather not contact the school because I never vandalize Wikipedia at school. It's because I have support with me and my the IP address is completely different. Also, our school is on holiday next week. This makes me so worried and I rather not have the school involved as editing Wikipedia at school is nothing to do with what I have done. I see. Sam did email me, asking to remove 'Thibbs suggestion'. I assumed he meant this one, and I told him it would be automatically archived in a few days - though maybe he meant the Abuse Response case. If it happens again I'll send a follow up email, as even if he has promised to stop vandalising, the Abuse Response case won't be removed. Also, can I just ask, are you satisfied with the outcome? I know my methods were a little unorthodox, but I felt it was better to simply prevent the abuse than to also involve the school - though if he restarts his activities, I'll be on the phone straight away :). My apologies for the lengthy response:

I've been dealing with this guy on and off since the summer of 2008 so I know what he is like pretty well. He claims to be an autistic 16-year-old and these statements are backed up by his editing style. His edits are not always vandalistic edits, however his vandalistic edits occur about 50% of the time. He is fond of begging for second chances and he often writes emails to people to ask for forgiveness. To the credit of many administrators, Sam is able to generate a lot of sympathy for himself and his fellow editors and the administration seem to have a tendency toward indulgence when it comes to him. An examination of his block logs show that he has been given an astounding number of "second chances" throughout his tenure at Wikipedia. Although the block logs alone do not represent all of the second chances he has received, they do tend to give a strong impression that this "vandalism -> block -> emailed-apology -> unblock -> vandalism" pattern has been going on for quite some time:

  • Here - Unblocked from an indef block by User:RexNL subsequent to an emailed request, re-blocked indefinitely by User:Theresa knott only a little over 1 month later.
  • Here - Unblocked from an indef block by User:RexNL subsequent to an emailed request, re-blocked indefinitely by User:Luk 8 days later.
  • Here - Unblocked from an indef block by User:Luk, re-blocked indefinitely by User:LessHeard vanU 2 weeks later.
  • Here - Indef block modified to a 2 week block by User:Barras, re-blocked indefinitely for sockpuppetry the same day by User:Bluegoblin7.
  • Here - Indef talk-page block lifted by User:EhJJ subsequent to an emailed request, re-blocked and email capabilities stripped by User:Barras 8 days later.
  • Here - Unblocked from an indef block by User:Fr33kman subsequent to an emailed request (very surprisingly), re-blocked indefinitely by User:Fr33kman after 12 days.
  • In some cases, notably that of User:Barras, the administrator's kindness has been repaid by direct and repeated vandalism of the administrator's own userpage.
    Although I have bent over backward to help Sam learn a better path, he has most recently begun to vandalize my userpage as well.

Apart from simply vandalizing Wikipedia, Sam has also made YouTube videos of himself vandalizing Wikipedia on which he can be heard audibly laughing in response to the desperate warnings of his fellow editors and the preventative actions taken by administrators. He has also posted material bragging about the number of websites from which he has been banned. This has been going on for over 3 years. I'm confident that despite his mental problems he is capable of understanding the difference between right and wrong and that for 3 years he has been deliberately choosing to act wrongly. Being young and being autistic are no excuse. Plenty of young people and plenty of autistic people edit Wikipedia every day without any problems. Even very young autistic editors such as User:Ribbedebie (to pull a completely random example) seem to have no problems differentiating right from wrong in this regard. It is my understanding that autistic people often have difficulties empathizing with others. Perhaps the reason Sam chooses to vandalize Wikipedia is because he is simply unable to realize how bad it makes other editors feel when he vandalizes their work. If this is the case then the only way to make Sam take notice of the punishments he is receiving here is to make the punishments effect him personally. Since his ISP seems to be so apathetic toward solving the problem my hope was that the school or his parents could do something about it. By Sam's own admission, he ends his school career in 6 months. A decision not to contact the school within this 6-month period will foreclose on a valuable avenue by which to reach him. Speaking candidly, given his history of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc chances listed earlier, I think that placing any belief in promises Sam may have made in emails is demonstrably naive. I worry that even if he truly does stop vandalizing between now and the termination of his studies, this may be the extent of his vandalism hiatus. I understand why you have made your decision just as I understand why all of the previous administrators decided as they did. I too have been the victim of Sam's empty promises. I repeat that this spirit of forgiveness does credit to the administrators and the general Wikipedia editors who have dealt with Sam, however there is a difference between kindness and indulgence. I don't love the decision, but I understand it and I'm prepared to accept it. -Thibbs (talk) 22:25, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Wow, I wasn't fully aware of the extent of the situation, and in retrospect, maybe I should have contacted the school first. I also see why you do distrust Sam, as he has broken many promises in the past - my only hope is that the gravity of real world consequences will encourage him to keep his promise, while in the past the only incentive has been being unblocked on-wiki. I apologise for not fully evaluating the situation, however I can promise that if he does restart, I will be in touch with either his old or new school, ASAP, without warning. Communicating with a prolific socker's parents

I found your name on the list of Abuse volunteers, but what I have doesn't fit Abuse as it's not a case of an IP. There is a 15-year-old boy who has made nearly 80 sock accounts over the last year, devoted almost entirely to creating user pages full of fantasy football teams and clubs featuring himself as chairman, captain, top scorer etc. In the course of these he has given away his full name, date of birth, home town and school. I left notes on his last two sock accounts that if this nuisance continued we would communicate with his school, or his parents via the school, to tell them how much time he was wasting and ask them to put a stop to it. I hoped that would stop him, but it didn't work: he created another sock 3 days later.

My question is, do we have any mechanism for doing what I threatened? And have we any experience of whether it works? I do not like the idea of an anonymous letter, but nor do I really wish to reveal my RL identity (being in the same country as the socker). The ideal would be something impressive-looking from the Foundation, if that were possible.

Sorry for the late response. We don't have any official mechanisms for contacting parents or other related individuals/organisations (e.g schools), however I am prepared to contact people myself (see above thread). It would be nice to have someone from the Foundation contact them, though unfortunately I don't think that will happen - I'm all for trying though. If you would like me to contact the school (I'd probably only contact parents if the school refused to co-operate), I'm more than happy to do that. I don't really mind revealing my identity, and I think sometimes, the only way to make persistent sockers stop is to induce some real-world consequence. Thank you very much. I think I will wait and see whether any more socks appear - I suddenly remembered a dog of my aunt's which when told to stop barking would give one last "wuff!" to show that he was stopping because he chose, not because he'd been told to. It just might be that this last sock was like that. He is fairly easy to detect, and I have been offered a checkuser run in a week or so which will confirm whether he has stopped.   The Featured Sound Main Page Proposal Voter Barnstar
I was truly humbled by the overwhelming community support for the recent proposal to place featured sounds on the main page. The proposal closed on Tuesday with 57 people in support and only 2 in opposition.

It should take a few weeks for everything to get coded and tested, and once that is done the community will be presented with a mock up to assess on aesthetic appeal.

Finally, I invite all of you to participate in the featured sounds process itself. Whether you're a performer, an uploader, or just come across a sound file you find top quality, and that meets the featured sound criteria, you can nominate it at Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates. URGENT re Chzz's filenaming page

Thank you for helping out with the filemoving. There are several things that need to be done or probably should be done in your new process.

  1. The urgent one: When you move a file, it is critical that you go to 'What links here' and transfer all of the links (except for the ones on Chzz's subpages) to the new name. This was done with many but some were missed like this one and this one. (After doing so it is optional but highly recommended to have the DSC name (left as a redirect) deleted and salted.
  2. Please cut the size of the icons down and make the text small. With a page that has hundreds of entries, this will save tons of space.
  3. If you can, I do believe it is better to move them to commons yourself as you go, as that is one of the largest image related backlogs Wikipedia has. There are thousands of files tagged as waiting for transfer to commons already.

Hi Sven. I'll implement the reduction of icon/text size ASAP - the template is substed though, so it wont effect any existing uses, I'm afraid. Sorry :(. Just a quick note to say I removed the speedy deletion tag from this image. It is not a duplicate or lower-quality copy of File:DSC00776_JPG.jpg. I realize there is a strong case for not having both, given how similar they are, but this is not covered by speedy deletion criterion F1 - I suggest taking it to WP:FFD.

Hello Acather96, I'm new to the Wikipedia submittal process so please have patience. I submitted the topic for Wikipedia for "Professional Poker Player" (PPP) and you refused inclusion in Wikipedia because of MY posting on the 2+2 Forum which I guess made this copyrited material. My 2+2 Forum name is "Michael". So, this is my material and it was me who did all the processing with the Dept of Labor's Standard Occupational Code committee. All original material by me. So, how should I proceed? My reasons are to establish and expand PPP as a legitimate profession and to give it exposure. Wikipedia is one attempt to do this. Should I use the process and thoughts I outlined in my last 2+2 Forum posting in the "Poker Legislation" forum titles "Final Comments on Professional Poker Player Being a Fe3derally Defined Vocation"? I'm quite involved in SirEpicBob's SPI, and was going to check the latest sock's contribs for G5'able contribs, and decided to add the template to the user's talk page, as the blocking admin had forgot. Hi Acathar96. As you're watching out for copyright material and you keep deleting edits to the page, you're actually deleting more than what you're presuming is copyrighted material and original material that was written before these edits. Also, the source of the material is edited from the Department's own source material which is being cited.

Just FYI, according to WP:RELIST "in general, debates should not be relisted more than twice. Users relisting a debate for a third (or further) time, or relisting a debate with a substantial number of commenters, should write a short explanation (in addition to the {{relist}} template) on why they did not consider the debate sufficient." So basically unless there's a good reason to relist a third time, just close it (may require an admin), and if there is a good reason, write a rationale for relisting. Non-Admin Closure of AfD

Can you please explain your rational for your non-admin closure of the AfD discussion for Frankie Krainz‎ ? Before closure there was been limited evidence presented for a "keep" decision on this article and I think it warrants further opinion from the Wikipedia community (although it has been severely lacking for this AfD). While this 2nd nomination had two "week keeps" the first nomination had one vote, a "delete." Under WP:NACD I'm not convinced that this is a "clear keep." Barkeep Chat | $ 04:58, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

This is typical of the problematic AfDs where there is insufficient interest from editors to come and comment - shown by its two relistings. @Barkeep Maybe the closure was a little hasty, but I'll try to explain my rationale. As far as I am aware, the comments made in a previous AFD have no meaning when judging consensus for a later AFD. The discussion had already been re-listed twice, and had two 'weak keeps'. The debate had already been relisted twice (the suggested limit given at WP:RELIST, and no one in this AFD had agreeded with nominator that both articles should be deleted. Maybe in retrospect, I should have closed as no-consensus or the debate should have been re-listed a third time. As Kudpung suggests, you could try WP:DRV. Apologies to both parties if I've done anything wrong, I'm still trying to 'learn the ropes' of AFD. Thanks for letting me know :) Acather96 (talk) 06:23, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
I found this thread through SoWhy's talk page. As the closer, you have the discretion to undo your close and relist it for a third time. (See the discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2011 March 28#Second Revolution flag and Mandsford (talk · contribs)'s decision to vacate his own close.) A second option is that since you think maybe you should have closed as no consensus, you could strike the "keep" result, replacing it with "no consensus" and a link to WP:NPASR. Generally NPASR wouldn't apply to a discussion with three participants. However, since those who supported retention opined "weak keep" and since they did not reply to the nominator's rebuttals, it could be used here. NPASR gives the nominator (or anyone else) the leave to speedily renominate the article for deletion. See King of Hearts (talk · contribs)'s closure at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Linda Biggs for an example. Cunard (talk) 06:44, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

You tagged this article using {{db-gfdl}} as a copyvio of wikibin. For future reference, Wikibin is just a copy of deleted articles from Wikipedia, which usually means they are G4 candidates (you just have to find the original AfD), but if not then it just needs an admin to restore the history (once they find it), so it's not a real copyvio. Hi Unclewalty, and welcome to Wikipedia :). Here on Wikipedia, we try to preserve a neutral point of view, and do not show bias, or advance any particular positions or views. Henceforth, edits like this aren't nessercary, as they add nothing of value, and furthermore are unsourced. Wikipedia requires that all material added must be cited to reliable sources - this help page gives advice and tips on referencing for beginners. This is the reason that this edit was reverted. These policies are in place not to discourage contributions, but to help maintain a quality, free encyclopedia which is both reliable and respected. 2002 Interstate 43 pile-up can be deleted. The author of that article had already added information on the accident to Interstate 43. I expanded that with the pertinent details from the USA Today news article used in the main I-43 article. Merging any additional content over from the crash article would add undue weight to the subject. Yes, it was a tragic event, but there are no lasting impacts that came about from the accident; nothing was changed to the road's design, future transportation planning, future freeway designs nor did the crash have a lasting impact outside of the immediate geographic area. Since none of the content from the accident article was copied to affect a "merger", the article does not need to be retained for attribution purposes. I did copy the unused references to the I-43 talk page. Redirecting the title is also not necessary because it is an unlikely search term on its own. (A Google search for that title only turns up Wikipedia-based content suggesting that the title was coined for the article.) At the same time, the redirects 2002 I-43 pile-up and Interstate 43 pile-up can be deleted as well. Thanks for your attention to this. Imzadi 1979 → 07:46, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Working/creating a article on Wikipedia is very complicated. Too many guidelines, and I always get confused. The picture I have been trying to upload to Wikipedia along with The Dabljus BIOS is downloaded from band Facebook. I also contacted the music band management, who has given me authorization to use their images from Facebook for my purpose. Their authorization was sent to me by e-mail.

Hi Ssalvucci. All images on Wikipedia need to clearly indicate both their copyright status and source. Furthermore, regardless of wether you have permission or not, images need to be freely licensed. This means that people must be allowed to copy, share, modify, and sell the image, but the original creators can request that they are attributed. Licenses such as the Creative Commons Attribution License 3.0 or the GFDL are commonly used, acceptable licenses. However, before relicensing someones work, you must obtain their permission to relicense it - more can be see Requesting copyright permission for more information. And lastly, you cannot copy text off other websites, regardless of wether you have permission. Text must be available under the Creative Commons Attribution License 3.0, and if it's not it is a copyright violation. Finally, may I suggest using the article wizard? Hey there, just saw your FfD of File:DSC02280.JPG, and seeing as it was a DSC, I was wondering if you were working on those again. I've been going through the newest run, user:Chzz/dsc0511. Other people seem to be working on these files too, and I'm marking that as I go. If you're going to pick up on those anytime soon, please note that there is a second list, user:Chzz/img0511, with much the same issues. Also note that even after you and others perform moves, I am going through and placing information in Template:Information templates and slapping {{copytocommoms}} on the images, where needed. Therefore I am working slower than normal. If you don't want to get back into these, that's fine. I intend on powering thought them regardless. Just letting you know about the state of affairs. P.S. As good an idea as templates are, I have not been using them with the new run because I think they take up more space then needed. I'm trying to keep things tight in my section, so I can keep track of my work. If you do decide to use your templates, please start at the top (I am starting from the bottom). Hi Sven, and sorry for the late reply - I'm not as active as I'd like to be due to exams and the like. However, I'd love to help :). I think I'm going to get rid of the templates, as in retrospect, they were a bit pointless and took up lots of space and time. I'll try and remember to use {{Information}} and {{Copytocommons}} more, and I'll remember to work from the top-downwards. May I suggest that we work through the DSC's first, then look at the IMG's - and if were still not bored, go through the lists transferring each file to Commons. And lastly, I had an idea with regards to the file redirects. As concerns have been expressed over page historys getting mixed up, we could get them salted instead - if you think this would be a good idea, I could make a template of some kind to place on the redirect instead of backlogging RFPP. Just about all of them already are. There was an issue with IMG files not being blocked off because the filter didn't account for a space between IMG and the numbers, but that's been fixed. As for deleting the redirects, someone has been doing that without me having to ask. It's a good news bad news scenario, but I'm accepting it as it is right now. Hello,

I am still trying to figure out how to send people messages, and so far I only managed to send you messages. So sorry if I am bothering you. I found a potential serial killer, that is not on Wikipedia, and is only mentioned on the internet as a sidekick from Kuklinski, the serial killer. His name is "Robert Prone". He was also called Mr. Softee, and used to drive in his ice cream truck, selling ice cream to children, and hunting for people to kill. I can not find any sources that confirm he is a serial killer, but I would like to get in touch with people that might know more about him, and maybe even create my first Wikipedia page!

Hi Linen, and so you know, this is usually how you contact people - and you're not bothering me in the slightest :) Sounds interesting, but the lack of sources is a quite a big problem - but as you said, others may know. Could I recommend contacting active users in the serial killers taskforce. I left a note about this task force on your talk page, I don't know if you saw if or not. Once you feel you're ready to create an article, can I strongly suggest you use the article wizard? This is a great way to start, and guides you through the article creation process.
