File:Northern Ireland Election Map 2001.jpg

Hi. Thanks for sorting out the copyright status and other details for the NI Election Map 2001 file. As noted, I have no idea on how to determine the copyright status, and the guides were a little confusing last time I read. Would you be able to take a look at some of the other files I uploaded (though have since been deleted) in my upload log: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=upload&user=Jonesy1289 If you could tell me the copyright status and whether they are suitable for uploading then I'll upload them.--Jonesy1289 (talk) 15:38, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately, as I'm not an admin I can't view deleted files, though if you re-upload them now I'll take a look and see what I can do :) Acather96 (talk) 15:44, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
There is a map on page two of this source: http://www.cabinda.net/PROYARTS_Cabinda_1776.pdf as well as the flag for Loango from this source: http://www.worldstatesmen.org/Congo-brazzaville_native.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonesy1289 (talkcontribs) 15:46, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
I'll take a look now. Acather96 (talk) 15:51, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
What articles do you intend to use the images on? The second can easily be claimed under fair use (Template:Non-free symbol), but I'd need to know which article the first will be used on. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 15:56, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
Both images were to be used for the Kingdom of Loango article (and maybe for the articles of other kingdoms depicted in the map). Thanks for your continued help :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonesy1289 (talkcontribs) 16:00, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
OK. Actually, the flag is {{PD-Old}}, one question - was the map used in the PDF document created in 1776, or is it more recent? Acather96 (talk) 16:03, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
I believe the entire publication was in 1776, including a map, though I'm unsure if the map has been updated since. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jonesy1289 (talkcontribs) 18:19, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
I've now uploaded the Loango flag - you can see it in the article. Thanks for helping determine the copyright status. :) Any ideas on that map?--Jonesy1289 (talk) 13:15, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Feedback Dashboard task force

Hi Acather96,

Since you were a part of the WikiGuides project, I thought I'd give you a heads-up about a new way you can help/mentor newbies on en.wiki: we've recently released a feature called the Feedback Dashboard, a queue that updates in real time with feedback and editing questions from new registered contributors who have attempted to make at least one edit. Steven Walling and I are putting together a task force for experienced Wikipedians who might be interested in monitoring the queue and responding to the feedback: details are here at Wikipedia:Feedback Dashboard. Please sign up if you're interested in helping out! Thanks, Maryana (WMF) (talk) 22:03, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

spelling

Hi acather96

Please could I mention that ALLOT is not a word. It is two words spelt A LOT.

I noticed it as your spelling is generally excellent and your meaning very clear.

regards Toak20 (talk) 22:28, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks - technically, allot is a word - it means to allocate a task to a person. However, you are correct in saying that a lot and allot are not the same; may I ask where you have seen my misuse of a lot? I'd be very grateful if you can so I can rectify my grammatical error - this has given me an idea though, I might see if I can run a search on Wikipedia to correct incorrect uses of allot/a lot. Thanks, once again :) Acather96 (talk) 19:10, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Image updating

Hi acather96

I'm having some problems updating the information on a few images I uploaded. When I try to update the file description page it simply refuses to update the information. Any suggestions?

One of the files is Zombie_pandemic_main_game_screen.jpg

Also, i'm writing an article for wikipedia, and it's still a work in progress/draft stage. Is there any way to delete the draft history? I don't really need it.

Thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TheIceking (talkcontribs) 19:21, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi TheIceking, and welcome to Wikipedia :) I've got a couple pointers for you - 1) For each non-free image you upload, you must also include what's called a non-free use rationale - this is something that proves how an image meets our non-free content criteria. Sounds scary, but don't worry - use this template for a clear structure, and consider looking at other gaming article's screenshot rationales, to get a feel for exactly what type of image meets our non-free content criteria. For now the images have been tagged for deletion as they lack a rationale, but don't worry, you have seven days to 'save' the images. 2) Non-free images cannot be used in the userspace - even drafts. Until you move it into the mainspace, you can't have non-free images displaying, this can be rectified by simply placing a colon just inside the brackets (for example: [[:File:Zombie pandemic main game screen.jpg|blah blah blah]] ) which means the image is there, but not displayed - you can then just remove the extra colon once it is moved into the mainspace. 3) Lastly, in regards to your actual question ('why can't I change the information on the file pages'), have you tried purging your cache? Recent edits to the pages show up in the page history, you probably just need to purge the page. And we don't usually delete history so that all content is attributed and all edits are logged, the only exception pertaining to revisions which contain blatant copy-vio's or extremely disruptive/libellous/insulting/degrading material (see CRD if you're interested). Hope that helps, and if you need a hand with anything, just leave me a message. Thanks, :) Acather96 (talk) 21:16, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi there! If you think you can find some reliable sources which can be used as citations in the article, please do add them to the article. You may find Referencing for beginners has some useful information on it - if you need any help, just leave a message :) Oh, and don't worry about the slip-up on my talk page, it's an easy mistake to make. Acather96 (talk) 22:18, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your understanding and assistance - how long do I have to find these references? ( I was going to do it today but may not have time)hi99ins (talk) 22:22, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Don't worry, seven days. And if for whatever reason you can't make the deadline, you can always request undeletion. :) Acather96 (talk) 22:23, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

I added some references if I need more I will add further ones tomorrow - also I cannot seem to remove the lines below the references - if I remove the references block, the lines disappear, but they do not appear in my editor...weird... anyway please let me know how I am progressing when you get a moment - thanks Tim hi99ins (talk) 23:40, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Bacon Challenge 2012 Update

Hey! It's been a good few months since the Bacon Challenge 2012 kicked off in June, and I'm pleased to say that decent progress has been made. While we were a bit slow to start, bacon-related contributions have been picking up again, and scores have been rising in the Bacon WikiCup. Here's a quick rundown of the overall positions as they stand:

Currently, only a handful of participants have reported contributions: to those who haven't, remember, there is still plenty of time left to contribute and rise up in through the positions, as the Challenge and WikiCup run up until March. Just like last year, all participants will receive a shiny medal which they can place on their userpages, or use as a self-esteem booster if need be (just joking...sort of). If you need ideas for what to work on, a list is available here.

One last thing! Per request, we are bringing back territory representation into the WikiCup! Editors can now represent nations, states, or provinces, just to add a bit of fun and Olympic-flair to the event. Simply reply to this message with the territory you wish to represent, if you choose to do so.

Thanks for reading! Good luck! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:02, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Kumarrajendran CCI

Hi there, I was just going through the Kumarrajendran CCI (I'm looking to get more involved in file related CCIs) and I noticed that you've marked a few as clear in part because "EXIF data shows that the photo was taken with a standard camera". I have a concern about that:

Now I'm not saying that it's not possible that he's had five cameras in as many years, however it's suspicious. Also suspicious is how the three Nikons are in totally different price/quality classes from one another. All in all, it just dosen't feel right. What are your thoughts on the matter? Sven Manguard Wha? 03:06, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Oooh, now that’s a good point, I didn't spot that. Always nice to have an extra set of eyes run over something for this very reason; it's nice to hear that you're getting involved in CCI's as well, there's a massive backlog of enervating and time-consuming work to be done that is also quite important! You're right in that it does sound a little suspicious, especially with the three different Nikon models - maybe it would be worth going through the rest of the files and compiling a full list of all cameras use before taking it to PUF to somewhat beef up our claim, as we don't really have many solid facts to justify deletion at the moment. I'm going to be working on that CCI frequently this week, so will be able to see if this pattern of different camera usage is present in other uploads. Cheers, Acather96 (talk) 18:50, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Unless the essay fairy visits me and I'm able to power through my work faster than I anticipate, I won't have time to help you with that today. I recommend you find an admin with some time on their hands and ask said admin to look through the deleted files. BTW, I'll be getting more involved in CCI, but for now only in the file related ones, so that's this one, the Billy Hathorn one, the Arab League one, and one of the two Richard Arthur Norton ones. Sven Manguard Wha? 21:21, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Cup Noodle

Hi, I've been on Wikibreak this month, and still don't plan to return for a week, but I noticed you tagged my image File:CupNoodle.jpg for deletion. I originally tagged it as PD because I took the picture myself, but I realize a picture of a logo or a product may need a different rationale. Please check the fair use rationale I added, and let me know if anything else needs fixing.

All this made me wonder how Andy Warhol's famous paintings of Campbell Soup cans are tagged here. After checking some of those images (see File:Campbell's Soup with Can Opener.jpg for example, I am curious if I should tag my photo with {{Non-free 2D art}} or something similar. Any advice is welcome. Thanks. ~Amatulić (talk) 17:56, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Request for picture

Greetings, fellow Wikipedian. I'm working on completing the wiki article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pies and I've had no luck finding a photo for the famous "Bedfordshire clanger" amongst the Wikimedia Commons images. As you're from the area, might I be so bold as to request that should you have the time, please stop in (at your convenience) to Gunns Bakery in Sandy, Bedfordshire (http://www.gunns-bakery.co.uk/bedfordshire_clanger.htm) to purchase and photograph a clanger to add the the Commons? I'd do it myself, but being in Japan makes for a rather long journey for a meat pie. Although, I'll admit they do look worth the trip. Cheers, Markmark28 (talk) 01:33, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Good evening sir, and welcome to Wikipedia :) I agree that Niemti does appear to be sometimes uncivil manner, and one that is not in line with collaborative and helpful ethos that this project aims to extol - this especially was way out of line, and I hope has not deterred you from contributing. Let me assure that Wikipedia, and all volunteers like me, would not want you to go away or shut up, and discourage such negative language. With regards to your question about timeouts - Wikipedia does not have any such systems, and a block would not be issued considering the circumstances (no proper warning to the user, and no very serious policy breaches). However, in light of the concerns you have raised and the user's seeming continued failing to work in a collaborative environment positively, I will leave a message on his talk page gently cautioning him about his behaviour, and offering words of advice. If the user continues to behave in an uncivil manner, than the next step would be to raise the matter at Wikipedia:Wikiquette assistance, and failing that, Wikipedia:Administrators noticeboard/Incidents. Once again, apologies for the rough initial treatment you have received here, welcome to Wikipedia, and if I can be of any further help in any capacity please leave me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Regards, Acather96 (talk) 19:11, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Many thanks for your input on this matter! I was beginning to worry that the site might be being maintained by people who like act like young, insolent teenagers, based on Niemti's conduct. You have thrown my first impression right out of the window with your civil, pleasant and mature response! Thanks again! Spiderliam (talk) 19:50, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Message from you RE image

Hello,

Not sure I understand your note to me regarding the image I uploaded (JKardong Performing With Sera Cahoone.jpg). I entered all copyright information when uploading as it directed me, so not sure why you see an issue. It is legally owned and I entered that in the Wiki copyright input form. Can you please clarify what it is you are seeing?

thanks! Bud — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jkard883 (talkcontribs) 16:08, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

While I can't find out what the precise problem was with the image (as it was deleted two years ago), File:JKardong Performing With Sera Cahoone.jpg appears to have been deleted as the source was not clearly specified, and a license tag was not applied. If you would like to have the image undeleted, the appropriate forum to request such action is WP:REFUND. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 14:10, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Article about Radha Thomas

I am currently working on the Wiki page for Ms Radha Thomas. She is an Indian jazz singer and songwriter. In fact, she is known as a diva in the Indian jazz scene. She previously was with the band Human Bondage and has sung and performed globally. The article is still under development. I haven't completed it or submitted it for review yet. You can have a look at it at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Radha_Thomas. I will be requesting your help and advice (as usual) in making it conform to all Wiki standards. If you do a Google Search for Radha (https://www.google.co.in/#hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=Radha+Thomas&oq=Radha+Thomas&gs_l=hp.3..0l2j0i30l2.1190.3159.0.3385.12.12.0.0.0.0.282.1949.0j11j1.12.0...0.0...1c.dYmnNUlMsQM&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=f6ee012440c72a74&biw=1024&bih=509) you will find dozens of articles and links to her work. As of now, the article is still under development and I will come bug you for help soon! Varunr (talk) 06:44, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Luton and Dunstable Hospital Logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Luton and Dunstable Hospital Logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:01, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

What do you think?

Hello!

The great debate is right now going on on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Concert_Tours page. I would be very grateful if you could say something about the topic on this page.

The main question is about numbering the tour dates and I would be very interested in your opinion. What do you think? Do you like the idea of numbering the tour dates or not? Please post your reasonable opinion on the above mentioned page.

Thank you! Lassoboy (talk) 15:03, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
