Tagging images for deletion.
You are tagging many PD images for deletion because they are a bit blurry. You also have tagged and image saying it was not encyclopedeotic when it was in use in an article! Please check before you tag - these images break no policy! Oddbodz (talk) 09:15, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

- Because it was, as far as I could see, pure vandalism. If your intents are being made in good faith, can I suggest that you use the article wizard, and remember to find reliable, third party sources so to ensure that the article not only meets our inclusion criteria, but can also be checked for factual accuracy by others (see our verifability policy for more info). My name is Joshua Lutz. I am a Christian musician/artist in the heart of NYC. Having worked with Eric Clapton, Joss Stone, Michael Jackson, Maroon 5 and many more here in NYC, I am trying to build my name/brand out here and worked for many many hours on my wikipedia page only to have it completely deleted by you. I understand that artists cannot promote themselves by creating a page about them although I am not sure why, It isn't malicious or cumbersome to the internet but I digress. Clearly I know much less about creating a page than you so since you wiped me off the map, would you be so kind to help me re-establish my page appropriately? I think it's a great conduit for others to find me and my message to the world. - Hi Jmldesigns. First of all - I didn't delete your article. It was proposed for deletion some time in 2009 by Malcolma (talk · contribs), and subsequentley deleted by ThaddeusB (talk · contribs). I just nominated two of your images for deletion at Files for deletion, as they are un-used and unencyclopedic. As the message on your talk page said, you can join in the discussion if you are interested in them not being deleted. Also per WP:ADVERT and WP:NOTPROMOTION, Wikipedia is not a place to promote yourself, or spread some kind of message. We are an encyclopedia, comprising of factual articles, which are unbiased, referenced with multiple reliable sources, and the subject of the article would meet our notability criteria, in this case WP:MUSICBIO. Deerfield (house) pasted from web
Hi Acather - I've been trying to get to the right way to go about doing the below, but between all the different options and templates, i'm not sure which is the right one as I'm not 100% sure my analysis is correct. Basically, I think that the text on Deerfield (house) is taken from here. The very first edit to the paste is the same as the text on the website. However, could it be possible that it was pasted the other way around? (I wouldn't think so, but possible of course).
On a related note this website also mentions the bit exactly the same about "Winston Churchill taking delight... etc". So who is borrowing from who is unsure. But the American text might be freely licensed as it's government work? (or doesn't it work like that for textual work - I know from working on Commons that it works like that for images). But I think fact remains that the text here is pasted from the site mentioned above. It also seems that Chief Secretary's Lodge is a good article about the very same house.
I hope that makes sense, sorry for taking up your time. And thanks for any help you can give.

- Hi Deadstar, and sorry for the late reply. I'm pretty sure the text copied probably originated from the US Embassy - its unlikely they themselves copied the description from another website. All US Government works (including texts) are in the Public Domain, so I have attributted the content using {{USGovernment}}. Invitation to the Bacon Challenge 2012
Hello! You have been invited to take part in the Bacon Challenge 2012. In case you don't know or need a refresher, the Bacon Challenge is an annual celebration of bacon on Wikipedia in which editors come together to help create, expand, and improve Wikipedia's coverage of bacon. The event lasts all the way through National Pig Day 2012, giving participants plenty of time to work at their pleasure. In addition to the Bacon Challenge is the Bacon WikiCup 2012, a side event to the Challenge in which all bacon-related contributions done by those participating in the Challenge are submitted and scored by the scorekeeper (me) based on the scoring chart. At the end of the Challenge, the user with the most points in the Bacon WikiCup will win a shiny trophy for their userpage. In addition, the users who score the highest in specific categories (not yet finalized, but the categories include most image uploads, most article creations, most DYK submissions, and more) will win barnstars. Finally, all participants will receive a medal. While the awards are nice, in the end, the important thing is to have fun and enjoy what we're all here for, which is improving Wikipedia.
If you decide to participate, great! You may add your name to the participants list at the main page of the Bacon Challenge 2012, and pick up the userbox for your userpage if you desire. Signing up for the Challenge will also automatically enter you into the Bacon WikiCup. If you don't wish to participate, that's fine too - maybe next year! In the meantime, if you know anyone who might also be interested in participating, feel free to invite them! The Challenge is open to anyone and accepts participants at any time, so feel free to let anyone who might be interested know.
Note that I, the scorekeeper of the Bacon WikiCup, will be on vacation starting on the 18th of June all the way up until the 5th of July. I will have limited access to the internet, so I may or may not be able to score users' contributions during this time. Sorry for any delay in scoring (but since the Challenge lasts for more than half a year, there's no rush, right? (= ).

About "File:DSC00614.JPG", which you've been trying to get a description for:
when I look at the uploader's deleted contributions, I see that it was "the tunnel of Pigman Road", illustrating a long-deleted article about what seems to be a hoax legend (if you'll pardon the awkward phrasing). Hi, I saw your message concerning the image Embroidery.jpg which is a photograph of an embroidery of the coat of arms of the United States done by Edward C. Kuhn. I understand why you may doubt the self copyright claim, however, in this instance I assure you that it is authentic. Edward C. Kuhn is my great, grand-uncle and my father took that photograph a number of years ago when he was considering the donation of the embroidery to the Smithsonian or similar government agency. The embroidery is still in our possession, as it was willed to my father by his great aunt, Agnes Krull, who was Kuhn's sister-in-law. We would gladly send you a current photograph of us posing with the embroidery if that would alleviate your concerns. The mural photographs that you also marked for deletion, and the painting of St. Paul Lutheran Church can be deleted, as I removed them from the article quite awhile ago, although I did take those photographs myself as well. You can also view all these photos, the embroidery, church, and mural on my personal Picasa web album at http://picasaweb.google.com/robkrull We'd be glad to get out the embroidery, take a picture of us with it, and post it there for you to see if you prefer that to providing us with your personal email. Whatever works best for you!
I definitely want to do things correctly, and appreciate any guidance at assigning the correct copyright statement to any images on the Edward C. Kuhn Wikipedia article. I may have inadvertently assigned the incorrect label to some images, but the picture of the embroidery is truly self-owned. So please don't delete that image until giving us a chance to prove it really belongs to us. If you have any questions or would like further confirmation, please don't hesitate to email or call either of us at the contact info below. My father is director of the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, IN. Hi Acather96, I was wondering if you could advise me on whether this image is OK to upload i.e. complies with Wiki's copyright, file size etc. And if so, what copyright tag to use. I have had many images deleted in the past for not following the Wikipedia policy!
The image by Art Young I believe was first published in 1917 (do not have yet evidence of this) and reproduced on a 1953 US Government hearing as described here and shown here. The earliest evidence I have so far found is that it was published in the first issue of Economic Justice in November 1932.[1] I intend to use the image on the Christian anarchism article. --Nirvana2013 (talk) 13:14, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Just found evidence the artwork was used prior to 1917. In Ammon Hennacy's The Book of Ammon he says "Elizabeth Gurley Flynn gave us a framed picture by Art Young from the old Masses of a reward wanted for Christ..." (p. 410, 5th ed. 1970). The Masses ceased publication in 1917, confirming the artwork was first published prior to this time. He also published the full poster in his autobiography on p.332. I hope this helps. I don't work with contributing images a lot, but occasionally find that uploaders leave way too much dead space around an image like this one, often featuring light sockets and fire alarms. Re: Bugzilla
It's not a Mediawiki bug per se, but many UTF-8 fonts combined with Unicode characters in with many different browsers's rendering engines interpret it. So my advice to you is to strike that bugzilla. It's mostly ҉ a firefox nifty feature :) See, i just inserted a weird character... --Zalgo (talk) 20:06, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
False Positive Report
False Positive Report
I wanted to create an article about a very important artist/author. I went through the help: how to create a new article, previewed it and added the references (such as homepage, publishers page, newspaper articles, etc.) Unfortunately came after I saved the page the message of the "false possitive report". What could have been the reason and how to avoid it in the future. I have to mention that just recently the same article which is in english, I put on to the german wikipedia and got the message wrong language. Could that be a reason for the false possitive issue ? Can I create again the page ? What is going to happen now with the article, will it be reviewed by an admin ? I would really need some help with this issue of creating this new article. I can send you the text that I had copied from the creating article box, which includes everything. - Hi Kusum. It looks like you triggered one of our edit filters when trying to create your new page. These filters try to detect and block bad-faith/vandalous edits, but they can make mistakes. It looks like you have already taken the right step to resolve this - by listing the page at Wikipedia:Edit filter/False positives/Reports. It will be reviewed by an administrator in due course, and all you have to do now is wait, I'm afraid. The filters are simply lines of code and not controlled by humans, so don't be put off - no one thinks badly of your work :). Hi Acather96, thanks for the welcome message, i'm really new to editing on here but hopefully i'll get to grips with it, although I doubt I'll be as active as you – 25,000 edits in over a year is pretty good going.

I recently joined the FoS, but as you have seen have been editing Wikipedia for quite a while now - and I had been planning to write an article on Shortmead, but it looks like you beat me to it :). I'm definitely going to be trying to improve the article, and hopefully I'll be able to find some decent sources to work from - if you know of any publications or sources aside from the one already cited in the article, please let me know. With regards to the HTML/wikimarkup language differences, you may find Help:Wiki markup and Help:HTML in wikitext useful. - I'm not accusing you of anything, I am stating a fact - do not remove file deletion tags from file page's - it's as simple as that. I suggest you calm down, and start thinking clearly. You have uploaded a non-free image, and as such, this image must meet the non-free content criteria. Criterion 7 states specifically that all non-free images must be used in at least one article. - Thank-you very much for your kind words, they are most appreciated. But I must ask, what do you actually see in me that convince you that I am a good candidate. I'm not fishing for compliments, it's just that a large proportion of my work is mainly behind the scenes, relatively mundane tasks, and if I'm honest, I'm surprised that you have heard/come across me :). I guess adminship is something I would be interested in, and I was wondering, is it considered bad etiquette/practice to ask a user to nominate you? I have only worked closely with a small number of users (such as Sven Manguard and VernoWhitney), and I'm not sure who else would be able to nominate me. You are one such editor, and have been on my watchlist for a considerable time. When my general impression is that a contributor has a mature sense about their intentions, coupled with a sincere regard for Wikipedia and its better interests, further bundled into a person with calm demeanor and mutual regard for the collaborative efforts of others; I remember these with special regard. Having observed these things in you, and others, prompted my desire to create the essay at WP:ADMAN, and begin notifying some of these excellent prospects. The two names you mentioned as close colleagues, would be strong nominators, and you can consider WP:RRN, which is designed explicitly for that purpose. Absolutely you can ask. Now RfA has a bit of a cabal mentality, and can be brutal. Do not consider this lightly. But do consider it, and talk to others you trust, for honest opinion. I'll definitely consider whether I should make a RFA seriously, as I have seen that the process can have a somewhat destructive effect on some contributor's views of the community (however projects like RfA reform 2011 are great and a very encouraging sign, I understand that this is something that you yourself are also involved in). If I do decide to go forward with the nomination process, I'll talk to Sven and Verno to see if they would be interested in nominating me, per your assurance that this is acceptable. - Hi Nata112, and welcome to Wikipedia :). Two things here really, 1) whenever you remove content from an article, you must provide an explanatory edit summary - be aware that others may disagree, and revert/discuss this with you. And 2), I think it must be clear that edits like this really are inappropriate, all comments are made on article talk pages, and should be discussing improvements to the article. I gather from User talk:Karl 334#Hello Karl! that you feel offended by the article or feel that the article is rude and insulting - be aware that Wikipedia is not censored in any way, shape or form and this is one of our core policies. Any text that you do add should be referenced to reliable sources, and you must try to maintain a neutral point of view. Hope this helps, Acather96 (talk) 17:29, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Quick question
Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible for me to edit Samlaptop's Abuse Response page anymore. Previously, after User:Jamesofur had completed his investigation of the case in December 2009, he had written me a note giving me permission to continue to edit the report (see this discussion). I continued to add new sockpuppet accounts keeping track of Samlaptop's activities that violated of Wikipedia's blocking policy until February 2011 when you closed and archived the report. Currently, the report states "The following page is an archived Abuse Response case. Please do not modify it." As such, I have held back from adding new sockpuppet accounts. Most of Sam's sockpuppets since February have been one-time uses that weren't vandalistic per se. None of them were banned. Yesterday the sockpuppet account 92.5.198.12 was blocked and today he's started using a new sockpuppet account to vandalize. I'd like to add these details to the report. - Hey Thibbs, and sorry for my initial lack of response, I've been off-wiki for a while due to exams and such like. I see no problem with you editing the page, but it might be worth re-opening the case if new evidence of abuse have been found. - No worries. I'll simply add the new violations to the report for now, but I'll explore the idea of reopening the case. Sam has graduated to a new school system just this month, so we'd have to contact his new schools or possibly his parents. We might also consider recontacting his ISP. Considering that Sam is still below the age of majority, his parents really might be the best option. A tactfully-worded letter asking for their help in controlling Sam's behavior might actually yield results. Obviously we're not trying to interfere with the way they are raising their child, but as a volunteer-based organization whose goal is to providing encyclopedic information freely to users of the internet we might be able to appeal to them on grounds of ethical reciprocity. If we could stop his internet access from home and school then we'd have taken care of 95% of the problem. Message for Acather96 and Thibbs This is Sam's mother. Sam has made be aware of his previous so called vandalism at a time when he was new to Wikipedia and did not realise the consequence of his actions. Now he is older he is using it responsibly and only commenting on articles that he has knowledge about. I do not appreciate the threat made to Sam about contacting his schools and ISP as this is causing Sam a great deal of anxiety and could be classed as bullying! I would appreciate hearing your comments regarding this matter so that we can sort it out.--Judey Jude (talk) 09:36, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
- Nobody is trying to bully your son, madam. The intention behind all of this is to stop him at last from vandalizing Wikipedia. We are an all-volunteer group dedicated to building an encyclopedia and his games are really creating problems. Every act of vandalism he makes requires one of the volunteers to correct it and when Sam vandalizes small out-of-the-way articles, the vandalism may go unnoticed for long periods of time. This makes the encyclopedia look ridiculous and harms its reputation for accuracy and utility.
- Although Sam told you that his vandalism was a brief one-time thing that he engaged in when he was new to Wikipedia, he has misled you somewhat. Vandalism may be as simple as adding curse words to articles where they do not belong, but the kind of vandalism that Sam usually creates is to delete the entire content of an article and to replace it with a silly phrase. If you click on this link, you'll see an example of one such edit made by Sam two days ago. In case you are unfamiliar with the formatting, this is a "before" version and this as an "after" version of the same article. There can be no doubt that this sort of thing is indeed vandalism and that Sam knows it and that he is still doing it today just as he has been for the past several years.
- Furthermore, Sam is currently blocked from editing Wikipedia as a punishment for prior bad behavior of the kind shown above. Blocking him from editing is intended to give Wikipedia a break from his edits and intended for Sam to rethink his actions. If he enjoys editing Wikipedia then he must wait out the terms of his punishment just like all other blocked editors otherwise there is no incentive for him to put an end to the actions that earned him his punishment in the first place. When Sam creates dummy accounts to circumvent the block placed on his account then he is flouting the punishments he has received. That goes against the basic concept of fairness. Why should Sam be allowed to disregard his block when all other editors are held to a higher standard? Currently Sam is unwelcome to make edits at Wikipedia - even ones that he thinks are helpful. If his blocks expire or if he contacts an administrator who removes his blocks then he will be welcomed to editing Wikipedia like all other volunteers. As his vandalism from 2 days ago demonstrates, he is not ready to edit just yet. -Thibbs (talk) 12:34, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

I have told him that if he can not be responsible about it then the block should remain in place for the foreseeable future. Sam is autistic and on some occasions I think he genuinely thought he was contributing to the content. If Sam genuinely does want to go on to become a positive contributor, may I suggest that on the expiration of his block he considers participating in the adopt-a-user program, where a mentor (or 'adopter') will be assigned to him, to help him become a constructive contributor. Thank you for your civility and help in this matter, and please pass on my thanks to Sam if he does agree to stop editing until his block expires. Undercover Cops Audio Review
I reviewed your file of the audio recording of Undercover Cops, and i have a few suggestions that could boost it up to an overall high quality recording.
I assume this recording was all done in one take and seems to not be majorly edited. I'd suggest before uploading it to go over it with a simple sound editing software (I use the free software Audacity). Remove sections where you paused mid sentence or for a long time (probably to read a head bit). Also the parts where you stop and started over again at certain words due to mispronunciation.
Your pace throughout the entire recording is outstanding. Your breathing is also relatively good considering it wasn't edited. To improve the technical quality I'd suggest going into more detail with your editing by removing the pauses where you can hear your mouth, tongue or teeth clicking, I think dues to swallowing or trying to make your breathing quieter.
I also do recorded articles and found when it comes to breathing if you just edit out every time you take a breath it can, actually, it always will mess up your pacing. The best solution i have for that is to try to do separate recordings for each section then mash them together when our editing anyway. Look ahead and get a general idea of how may sentences you can take in one breath and the general pattern of your breathing. If you can plan out when to breath you can plan out how the editing will work. Simple - every time you take a breath pause (be completely silent!) for around the same amount of time that it took you to take your breath. That way when you edit out your breathing (if you choose to do so) there is still space that once effect your pacing.
