2015 Pan American Games

You don't need to have my permission for any kind, I never stop someone to contribute to the 2015 Pan An Games, in fact I let a ton of messages on the talk page of users who contribute in the past for p.a. pages soliciting their help and no one respond me. If you want to see wrong behaviour (or lack of communication), you should check more with Sportsfan 1234, who does only what he want and never ask for cooperation or help or any kind. Pan Am Games 1951 Buenos Aires

I'd like to help but I'm not user and my English not is good enough. However I can say about 1951 games, that although the article puts under dispute the number of medals, PASO has its official medal count with no discrepancy. Anyway some sports don't have his details, when the info is disponible in the web. In this way, with all the details us can see the total of medals, for example:

Competitors list

Greetings. Recently, someone (probably Sportsfan 1234) has created a new table: delegation per sport and gender competitors list. This is located in must nation at games at the 2015 Pan Am Games. Is this ok? Sinces is not included in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Olympics/Manual of Style, probably not... Just asking to the Fathers and Creators. --Osplace 04:39, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Pictograms

Is the use of pictograms ok? Using pictograms in every nations at games article will really overlink those pictograms, like this use from Chantella28. Osplace 18:09, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

• The purpose is to provide a visual cue for the respective sports disciplines and, for mine, I don't think they'll be overlinked. I suspect it would be a fraction of the overall linkage of flagicons, for example. -- Ham105 (talk) 21:16, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

2015 pan am games doping control

I am very confused and am hoping for some assistance. There are two Peruvian athletes that have been publicly implicated (Mauricio Fiol, and the marathon winner), who would lose medals if confirmed. There are spanish news stories that implicate that Fiol's medal has been stripped but the games website shows no change, and the CBC ran a story yesterday still using "if" statements to describe the possibility of more Canadian medals. I tried reverting the swimming results back until there is some kind of official word, but gave up. If the CBC is not crediting Canadians with additional medals, is it appropriate for us to?18abruce (talk) 18:32, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

Are there Commonwealth Youth Games notable enough...

Are the Commonwealth Youth Games notable enough to have individual pages for nations like Cook Islands at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games as I plan to work on some of these? Auto-assessment of article classes

"Lusophony" Games

I was polishing up some pages from the Jeux de la Francophonie, and followed a link to the Portuguese equivalent, the Jogos da Lusofonia. These are translated into English in Wikipedia - and only in Wikipedia - as the "Lusophony Games," on many, many linked pages. The problem is, there is no word "Lusophony" in the English language. The correct translation (and word in the article titles) should be "Lusophone" (in both the adjective and noun forms, just like "Francophone" and "Anglophone"). If you Google the term "Lusophony," you'll see the only place the term is used is in these Wikipedia pages, and the term does not exist in the dictionary. I'd like to propose correcting, and changing, all these pages and use of the term to the correct English. Whoever created all these pages didn't know the correct word in English. It's kind of embarrassing that all these Wikipedia articles have a non-existent word in their titles. What to do? Bruxism (talk) 05:35, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

Categories

I created Category:European Championships medalists because exists Category:European Games medalists that is a similar multi-sports events. And then all the international media report the medal table of the championships, as it is here. @Kante4: does not agree and for this to deleted the inclusion in the category, which I had put, the articles of some swimmers. In case for the swimming events, there is already the Category:European Aquatics Championships medalists in swimming. So i think it is not needed, as this is not a new event, just some EC put together at the same time. Kante4 (talk) 08:09, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

This is the first edition of the event that will be disputed every four years. It was conceived as a mini Olimpycs and is having more media success than the European Games. I'm not sure that the medalists need to have 1 parent category. At the European Games, all the event are held in 1 place (like Olympics), while EC is held in UK and Germany - I don't feel the connection to be that strong either. 2019 European Games controversy

I was adding this:

Human Rights Watch that questioned the EOC over the treatment of journalists by the Belarusian government. Question RE: Use of official results documents from multi-sport games

At the end of sporting events there will often be official results documents, which are accessible on the website as PDFs. But these documents can go missing if the games website is not maintained, as is often the case with sporting events. My question: is it OK within Wikipedia to put the PDFs with official results from an event on Wikipedia - I suppose in the Wikicommons or whatever - so that they can be a stable reference for the sporting events in question (thereby avoiding dead reference links). This could be especially helpful for smaller sports that might not have a great deal of media attention outside of the games website, so might not have much in the way of references to non-games specific websites. Lusophony Games article name

FYI - I have started a discussion at Talk:Lusophony Games on the preferred name for this multi-sport event. Currently categories and articles are split between Lusophony Games and Lusophone Games, so we need to find consensus on a name regardless. SFB 19:44, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

FYI – I have created an {{EventLink}} template which simplifies the creation of event-level links in medal table on games pages (e.g. Archery at the 1990 Asian Games). This should simplify input and remove the need for the more verbose {{DetailsLink}} template in many cases (example). Let me know if any issues are found and I will review the code. Renaming Template:Olympic Channel to Template:Olympics.com

The decision was that these are not proper names. The 5425 tennis articles that had them in title case have been moved to sentence case, after RM discussion and bot approval. Still working on cleanup edits. Maybe there's room for more such edits in multi-sport event articles, too? Dicklyon (talk) 19:47, 7 February 2022 (UTC)

Moving East Timor at... articles

Following a discussion with the Olympics WikiProject there's a rough consensus to move "East Timor at the ... Olympics" articles to be "Timor Leste at the... Olympics" largely due to it being what everyone calls them and how the IOC tracks them in their databases. Before I move all of the "East Timor at the ..." articles (e.g. Aquatics and Asian Games) I figured I'd post here to see if there's any opposition; I note that in all of the databases I've looked at for these games, they are officially entered as Timor Leste so we would be matching official records. Infobox templates

A discussion relevant to this WikiProject, titled Article infobox, was started at Talk:Judo at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The main issue in discussion: Should the same infobox template be used across all event articles, in out case {{Infobox Commonwealth Games event}}, or could a substitute, sport-specific template be used in its stead — so long as it provides all relevant multi-sport event functionalities as the former? In our case, the sport specific template in discussion is {{Infobox judo competition event}}.

Edit: the following is my side of the argument. The other could be found in the discussion linked to in the first sentace.
As you can see, when an NOC is given as a parameter to Infobox judo competition even, the infobox links to that NOC's "year at the games" article and not to the country article. The point I've tried to make is that given that every functionality of Infobox Commonwealth Games event is kept, there is no reason not to use the sport specific template with its additional functionalities, at the cost of "uniformity" of infoboxes across all event articles.

I'm going to spectate this one, but CLalgo, please note that when one is bringing a particular discussion to the attention of a WikiProject/other editors, the request/notification should be neutrally worded, and not give your entire position and why you think the other person is wrong. @Primefac: Thank you for your comment. My aim was to start a broader scope discussion in this forum, while making readers aware of a relevant discussion that has already started. As I am an interested party, my original message may be biased, but that is the argument I'm bringing before this project for its input. No, the will to avoid more discussions like that one is what propelled me to start this. When I've created Infobox judo competition event I've allowed it to support 9 different kinds of multi-sport events, some even without specialized templates of their own, but never thought someone would object to its usage. As someone clearly objected, I brought the template for a broader discussion here for a policy to be discussed. The discussion of uniformity vs functionality if a valid one, and I think that this is the place to have it in a broad scope. CLalgo (talk) 14:00, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present.
