Request:

Hi, I want a new image derived from this one, I would want it to be have a black tassel instead of a purple one and a black border around the "W", as for the second image I also want another image but I want the W's color changed to forest green (web colors) and a grey border and the color of the fez changed to the color this fez has, I also want the W to contain leaf shaped things in it colored with a darker shade of green (the leaves doesn't need to be whole, just make sure it is leaf-shaped and doesn't protrude out of the W. -- Yutah Andrei Marzan Ogawa123|UPage|☺★ (talk) 06:52, 26 February 2014 (UTC) (added second request at 07:12)[reply]

also in addition to the second image request please change the little circle at the top of the fez to forest green. 07:18 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s): You can probably just edit the one I had been requested to make awhile back: File:Green fez white W.svg. The Haz talk 22:25, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How?--Yutah Andrei Marzan Ogawa123|UPage|☺★ (talk) 00:47, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I was referring to the user that takes this request. However, if you know or want to learn to work with vector graphics, the editing could either be done directly with the code, or a program like Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator. The Haz talk 08:00, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notice: Can people working on it notify me on the talk page when they accept it and are finished with a link to this page for easy access and put the final images at the top of this section so I can upload it (you don't need to upload it, I will.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrei Marzan (talkcontribs) 08:13, 26 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why is the W white?Yutah Andrei Marzan Ogawa123|UPage|☺★ (talk) 17:57, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's how I understood the request. Do you want it purple? -- Orionisttalk 18:02, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I want it purple, I specified the border, not the color of the W also, I understand your mistake, people always inevitably make them. Cheers! --Yutah Andrei Marzan Ogawa123|UPage|☺★ (talk) 18:06, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(note:I love your work, it was beyond my expectations (at least if the W is not included)) Yutah Andrei Marzan Ogawa123|UPage|☺★ (talk) 18:11, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Here's the new one above. -- Orionisttalk 18:15, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I find the fact that it was based on another fez removed some features, I want the new green fez you made to have that "depression" in the center and for the white one thing to have the same tassel as in the image it is supposed to be based on. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrei Marzan (talkcontribs) 18:49, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The original fez collection is made up of PNG files, which makes modifications difficult unless you have the original psd/ai/inkscape file. Hence the changes you're requesting will take too much time. I don't think such small differences are a problem and the PNGs might be replaced with SVGs later anyaway. THe one change I've done is the stroke from black to grey. -- Orionisttalk 23:37, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So anyone else up for the small changes? Thanks Orionist for the color anyway! Just hope someone has the patience to do the small job. -- Yutah Andrei Marzan Ogawa123|UPage|☺★ (talk) 06:14, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Windows Notepad to the rescue! Added another with a blue tassle. Of course, my personal opinion is that the use of the fez on WP should have been retired before WP even existed! The Haz talk 05:22, 28 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A Request To Remove White Background For WPME (2007-2009)

  Resolved
 – SiBr4 (talk) 18:17, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article(s): WPME

Request

Can anyone make this 2007-2009 logo have Transparent Background?
This 2007-2009 logo can be made to be Transparent; although the white background needs to be removed manually so that the image could have Transparent Background but with the "my" (which is also White) NOT being Transparent; therefore, a mere one-step background color replace (replacing all White Background with Transparent Background) would probably not work on this image.

50.138.170.28 (talk) 07:00, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  Done and file overwritten. White inside the logo kept as requested. As for the other logo requests above, I searched the different stations' websites and couldn't find any vector resource of the logos in PDF or Eps files, without which it's better to leave them as is (see FOX 52 replies above). So I'd consider this request resolved. Cheers! -- Orionisttalk 14:03, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank You, Orionisttalk! Although, I believe in the official version of this logo, the borders between each four tile of the logo ought to also be transparent. The only white in the logo is the "my" and nothing else. I just wanted to clarify that. If you could also remove the white background from the separation of the four sections of the logo (but leave the "my" white though), that would be perfect. For example, look at the transparent borders between the four sections of this logo for WSBK-TV. 50.138.170.28 (talk) 22:00, 14 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No problem.   Done as requested. Cheers! -- Orionisttalk 10:24, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed this again after a long absence, and it's annoying me again, so I wondered whether someone with the requisite tools and skills could fix it. The problem with the existing image, above, is that the measurements of the widths of the diagonal stripes are drawn askew, so that they do not actually measure what they are supposed to. The two diagonal lines marking off 6 units should be drawn at right angles to the diagonal stripes, so that they are seen to measure the true perpendicular width of the stripes. 86.160.82.217 (talk) 04:06, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, thanks very much for the quick response, but unfortunately I do not see any difference to the problem area. MediaWiki still needs to update the thumbnail in the gallery above to the new upload (see Help:Job queue). The preview at the file page seems to show the diagonal arrows correctly. SiBr4 (talk) 21:26, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A user pointed out that on the new Russia SVG map that Kosovo had a solid line separating it as a country on Image #1 (see Talk:Russia#Comments). Compare to Image #2 where it has no line. On other maps, such as Image #3, it's shown with a dashed line. FutureTrillionaire suggested I post here to request it be fixed (as I can't do anything beyond coloring SVGs). SVG drawings for Open vSwitch article

  Resolved

Article(s): Open vSwitch

Request:

Hello there! One of the references used in Open vSwitch article includes an image for which it would be great to have an SVG drawing, so it could be included into the article as a great illustration. This is the mentioned reference, and this is the actual image that's not too complicated. While there and if possible, it would be also good to have an SVG version of the project's logo. Thank you! — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 06:49, 2 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

  Request taken by Goran tek-en (talk) 18:35, 4 April 2014 (UTC). But I can'r see any reason to make the logo into svg. To get that well you need to know the font why do you need it as svg?[reply]
If it's just for the article it should be big enough, or not? --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:35, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! The logo is less important, and the only reason why I asked for its SVG version was the licensing – anything else than creating an SVG version of a logo is a true pain to be preserved from being deleted shortly after uploading, due to various rules imposed by potential copyright issues etc. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 18:58, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Just as a note, Hazmat2 uploaded PNG version of the logo a few minutes ago (File:Open vSwitch logo.png). — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 20:05, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
But just by making a svg version of a logo you don't avoid any copyright rules. It's not considered (to my understanding) to be a unique work where you have added enough to be able to call it yours. --Goran tek-en (talk) 15:33, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Now you can look at this draft and give me feedback, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 18:35, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I guess you're right about the copyright rules for a logo; anyway, presence of a logo is much less important for the quality of this article, and current PNG version of the logo is more than good enough. The SVG draft of a distributed Open vSwitch instance looks great, thank you for making it so quickly! There's just a small typo, "disributed" instead of "distributed" – other than that, it looks great to me! — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 03:11, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you agree, once you upload the SVG file I'll take it from there and change the wording a bit, so we avoid any copyright issues though I can hardly imagine how something like this illustration could be copyrighted. Just thought of doing it that way, instead of creating some lengthy descriptions of what goes where. If you prefer it different way, please feel free to suggest. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 04:53, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

As I didn't get any other information I made more or less a copy of the illustration. If you want me to change shapes, texts or colors, just tell me what you want. It's not a problem to me, I prefer to get it right the first time so just tell me what you want.

I can't see any reason either for this to by any way be close to a copyright issue, then I wouldn't have done it.
If you want me to upload is as a NEW image I would need;

  • Name of the file
  • Description
  • Category/ies

Get back to me how you want it and with the info I eventually will need, thanks. --Goran tek-en (talk) 19:27, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, then let's have a small typo corrected ("distributed" instead of "disributed"), please, and it will be just fine! Here's what you need to upload the SVG file:
  • Name: "Distributed Open vSwitch instance.svg"
  • Description: "Open vSwitch is designed to support distribution across multiple physical servers by enabling creation of cross-server switches."
  • Categories (from Commons): "Local area networks (LAN)" and "Network architecture".
Once again, thank you very much! — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 19:44, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Now you can find it here: Distributed Open vSwitch instance. --Goran tek-en (talk) 08:44, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It appears from the previous high resolution version that the PSD file in the source contains vector data. Thanks in advance. 93.107.201.195 (talk) 19:27, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, but you can you put something into the .jpg file stating there's a .png version? That file is used a lot and not everyone might be able to see it here. 93.107.201.195 (talk) 22:56, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Would you be able to change all the pages in Wikipedia so all the pages with Earth flag PD.jpg have Earth Day Flag.png instead? 109.79.118.141 (talk) 00:12, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Using a requested new file in articles is normally something that the requester should do. I've changed some of the 2100 usages on the English WP using AWB, but virtually all of these usages are from the Ecology portal template, and the portal image selector is template-protected (an edit request should have to be made to have that replaced). To replace all 6000 global usages you should ask someone on Commons who has the GlobalReplace tool. SiBr4 (talk) 11:17, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
My request to have the image on the portal replaced has gone through, but I assume the file usage list will have to update before this change can be seen. Sn1pe! (talk)(edits) 17:43, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't seen the edit request yet, thanks. SiBr4 (talk) 18:41, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article(s): SATA Express

Request:

Any chances, please, for SVG versions of the SATA Express connectors, as visible on page three in this PDF file? SVG drawings of those five connectors would be a great addition to the article; if possible, those should be five separate drawings. The article deals a lot with explaining those connectors and their backward compatibility, so images would be very helpful. Thank you! — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 19:15, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

I just took a look at the PDF. Those are already vector images so SVGs are easy to make from the PDF. However, virtually everything on that website is under copyright so I am playing it safe by saying those images are probably not licensed for free (or near free) use. Also, I don't think they belong on Wikipedia either as free versions can be created and/or obtained which negates the fair use principle. Might I suggest that you find patents for the connectors and use the images from those instead? Those would be in the public domain (as all U.S. patent images are) and down the road SVGs could be made based on them. Or, you could contact SATA IO to see if those images can be Creative Commons licensed or released into the public domain. The Haz talk 21:14, 4 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for an insight! Unfortunately, I'm having troubles finding actual patents so far; would this PDF (reached through http://www.sffcommittee.org/ie/) be any better instead? On pages 12 and 13 it covers some of those five connectors, and there are more similar technical specifications covering the rest. Please advise. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 01:33, 5 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Hazmat2: Any updates, please? — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 03:42, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Dsimic: I found a patent, but there is only a drawing of one or two connectors (I can't really tell) [7] Sn1pe! (talk)(edits) 18:29, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for finding the patent, but unfortunately available pictures of connectors aren't that usable for the SATA Express article. They serve purely as simplified illustrations for the patent, and unfortunately wouldn't be that good for the article. Sigh. :(

Unfortunately, I can't seem to line up some of the acronyms, and the ordering on the other image seems to have some political logic behind it, so I wouldn't know where to insert the parties that don't appear. If you could help me out by editing the legend posted above to remove parties with no members in the upper house, and adding in new parties in appropriate places (if you want to choose colours for these, go ahead, but I can do that if not) then I can populate the picture. I'm by no means a heraldry expert - I just used the freely available components here. AFAIK policy is to try to keep to a standard set of graphics for the cord and whatnot. Is there special significance behind it?

Article(s): Flag of the Mughal Empire

Request:

Please vectorise (note that the tips on the corners are slightly cut off, my mistake). Source material are here [9] and [10]. Also, some minor corrections need to be done on the arrangements of the stars, the line of stars running towards the hypotenuse are not parallel to it (the ones running along the adjacent and opposite are parallel however). Please modify so that the stars towards the hypotenuse run parallel as well, you will need to slightly shift all the stars basically. The lion also needs to be slightly shifted a bit more away from the adjacent towards the centre, so that is become the median. Upload new version under this file File:Flag of the Mughal Empire.svg, since the creator himself expressed doubt about the authenticity of the version. Thank you. -- Gryffindor (talk) 22:02, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Any good? I can add more stars if you like, just let me know. NikNaks talk - gallery 22:52, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The svg should be identical in all aspects as the png but with the stars properly aligned. The triangle does not have the same dimensions as the png. The sun and the lion are not the same size as in the png and is tilting upwards, the sun has too many rays. The name of the file is also wrong, there was never a rectangular Mughal flag, the flag is always triangular. Gryffindor (talk) 07:30, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, thank you. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but there is no "official" flag that we can compare to here, only an interpretation, so I really don't see why you're being so critical of minor differences between this and the PNG (which I assumed was just your interpretation). Regardless, I'll rotate the emblem and make it smaller and remove those rays.
As for the other things you've mentioned, I don't understand what you mean about the dimensions. As an SVG, you can scale it however you want with no loss of quality. I only picked a multiple of 300 so it would be easy to line up the emblem. I also felt it would be silly to waste a good image (albeit an ahistorical one) by overwriting it, hence the new name of the upload. I would recommend renaming the current one, and then moving the more accurate one to the old name. NikNaks talk - gallery 13:47, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please clean up the image on the outside boarder & convert it to a .SVG file. -- Thanks! CorkythehornetfanTalk 19:06, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

Unless you can find a PDF containing a vector version of the logo, there is no way to vectorise that image. It uses far too many very specific gradients, and attempting to make a version from scratch would be a violation of copyright as it would not be accurate enough. Even the main ABC logo is a PNG, so I really don't think this is doable. NikNaks talk - gallery 21:46, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article(s): Selection shadow

Request:

Is there any way I can get this image translated into English? I hope this is the right place to be requesting this. SilverserenC 14:37, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

If you provide a translation of all the phrases on here, I could do it for you. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for a German speaking editor (and you may wish to try the Commons lab in that case). NikNaks talk - gallery 15:05, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I left a request over there. Thanks. SilverserenC 06:58, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I have given up on waiting for that and decided to hit up Google translate. Here's what each of the words mean.
Uberlebensrate = Survival rate
Reproduktionsrate = Reproduction rate (I could have guessed that one)
Reproduktions wahrscheinlichkeit = Reproduction probability
Lebensalter = Age
Selektionsschatten = Selection shadow
Verbleibender anteil = Remaining share (or remaining portion)
I should have just done that in the first place. Sorry for my idiocy. Would it be possible to cast some image word manipulation tech magic on this now? SilverserenC 13:33, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  Done Well, I can't attest for the accuracy of the translation, but I've added it to the file. I've also vastly reduced the filesize. The original German was saved as paths for some reason. Anyway, let me know if you need it changing. NikNaks talk - gallery 15:18, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That looks perfect. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. SilverserenC 01:11, 26 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Remove those transparent rectangle things on the back of the title heading. If possible, change 'anatomy' to 'Structure', not sure if font is commercial or other. -- ///EuroCarGT 14:21, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

I think it would be more appropriate to try to contact the artist directly. It would be wrong to edit such high-quality images for relatively minor stylistic reasons. NikNaks talk - gallery 15:21, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Because it's a featured image, it can't be changed without uploading a new image anyway. The Haz talk 01:59, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article(s): Heydar Aliyev International Airport

Request:

I'd like to request a SVG diagram of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, with labelled runways 16/34 and 18/36, perhaps based on Google Maps data, if it's not too stale (particularly, since currently there's no freedom of panorama in Azerbaijan and as such no way to have a free pic of the airport itself. Thanks in advance. Brandmeistertalk 13:32, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

You could use OpenStreetMap, plots out the airport quite well, has a compatible Creative Commons license. Here's the link: [11]. ///EuroCarGT 16:09, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, will import and adapt from there, thanx. Brandmeistertalk 16:51, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Blood values

Article(s): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Blood_values_sorted_by_mass_and_molar_concentration.png -- This image is used in a lot of wikipedia articles, as seen at the bottom of this link.

Request:

This image is referenced on tons of articles, but all the thumbnail versons are useless, and the original size is oversized on 720p/1080p screens. The SVG version is linked here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blood_values_sorted_by_mass_and_molar_concentration.svg. The original image is incredibly useful, but every single resizing attempts have made all the details unreadable. Could y'all update(or add another) resized version that is readable on 720p/1080p resolutions and isn't as absurdly large as the original? Thanks. --Thedownstem (talk) 18:38, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s):

I'm really not sure what you want us to do. Of course thumbnails of such a big image are going to be unhelpful, as there's just far too much data to compress horizontally. There's no way of separating the images without chopping some of the bars into pieces. If you can be particular in your request, then we can have a go at helping, but "make it readable" seems like an impossible task without any specifics! :P NikNaks talk - gallery 09:36, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We have a solution for this sort of issue, I'm surprised it hasn't been more widely implemented. I'll lace it through. ResMar 03:13, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've created a {{Wide Image}} template for this image at {{Blood Values}} and placed it where appropriate. The majority of the display cases for this image are dubious at best: articles describing specific compounds listed in this image, including it as a thumbnail and referring the reader to check their position relative to "everything else". This is improper, though not egregiously so; an ideal solution would be to create smaller, more easily thumbnailed version listing only especially important compounds, and paste that about the articles instead. However, I personally have neither the expertise nor the willingness to do this due diligence, so the thumbnails are probably here to stay. ResMar 03:38, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request: Please correct the harp in the SVG logo. Frenzie23 (talk) 05:28, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  Request taken by MjolnirPants.

  • Question Could you please explain what you meant by "correct"? I'll do it, but I'm not sure what you want done at this point. I did a quick Google search and I found about 6 versions of the harp. Do you just want to clean it up, to make it look nicer, or did you want it to match one of the other versions, such as this one? MjolnirPants Tell me all about it. 13:06, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please match it to the logo on the Ryanair website? Frenzie23 (talk) 15:56, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
