Request taken by Deditos (talk) 21:03, 23 August 2014 (UTC). The new logo does contain the text, but I'm having trouble getting the fonts to appear on Wikimedia (it looks fine in Inkscape). I'm new to this, so I'll get some advice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deditos (talkcontribs) 21:03, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Deditos: Wikimedia's SVG renderer cannot display text along a path. You can convert texts to paths in Inkscape (keyboard shortcut Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C) to be sure they render exactly the same in all browsers/programs. This has several disadvantages, like hindering further editing of the texts, though unfortunately it's necessary in cases like this. Best is to save both a version with text elements and a version with paths, by first uploading the original file and then overwriting it with the text-converted-to-paths file. SiBr4 (talk) 22:08, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A version with both text as path and text as text works too, although the display of the latter should be set to none (invisible layer). 84.127.80.114 (talk) 23:08, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I didn't realise that text-along-paths was a problem on Wikimedia. I've converted text to paths and left the text as text in a non-visible layer, although I guess it's unlikely anyone will want a translation. Deditos (talk) 12:05, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The image is intended for the "Code names" section of the article. The detail of interest is the swirl on Buzz Lightyear's chin. It is difficult to distinguish the swirl in the image, so I would start with another one from Pixar. • Except it should show up as a different nominal size in the file history itself, n'est pas? At least that's how it works with JPG. Check it out: version dated 19:20, August 25, 2014: 948 × 1,187 (854 KB). Version dated 19:07, March 7, 2011: 948 × 1,187 (854 KB) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:13, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I modified it by scaling the objects up, instead of changing the image size. Apparently, the file rendered the extents instead of the document, though I'm not sure why. I've fixed it and re-uploaded. MjolnirPants Tell me all about it. 15:03, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

MjolnirPants, if the other version is free in UK, can you upload it to Commons then? --George Ho (talk) 09:14, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Here's the thing: Licensing isn't my gig. I know a little bit about copyright law, being an artist and musician, but not enough to really be helpful. I do know that logos are not public domain, so I've only uploaded to WP to avoid issues. If you can sort out the copyright issue, I'd be happy to help sort out the graphics.
Of the little I do know, this is part of it: If there are multiple versions, none of them will be free. All will be trademarked or copyrighted. Now, I could do a derivative version, which would be free (that's under US law, mind; I can't speak to British law) under certain circumstances, but this is really still a fair use issue. This is why there was no issue with the solid black, text-only logos I did for you previously; in the US, you can't copyright the title of a film or television series, and font copyright infringement can be avoided by not using a specific font, but one very much like it which you have the right to use.
My advice is this: Check with someone on WP who knows copyright laws in the US and Britain, and get their advice. Once you have it, pop back in here and let me know how you want to proceed, and I'll be happy to go along. MjolnirPants Tell me all about it. 03:20, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was able to have it reviewed in WP:NFR. The administrator said that the placement of "THE" on top of the "Z" makes the logo copyrightable enough in the UK. At least I tagged it as "PD-ineligible-USonly". The licensing issue is resolved, so let's move on to the image itself. Regarding the current version of the image itself, I'm certain it may not resemble one of current versions of the show's logo, like this one from the website. If you are unable to resemble it correctly, use this version instead. --George Ho (talk) 00:45, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
