Vandalizing by 161.113.20.135 edit

Hello Waggers, I'm having problems with this IP address who has been vandalizing the Douglas R. Docker article (already suffering from several problems) for some time now. I see you'0ve had similar problems. It is becoming impossible to do a good job here due to the constant interference, destructive editing and vandalizing. I have sent to warnings already. Can anything be done? I have always tried to do something constructive here and it is really frustrating to spend most of my time doing damage control than improving the article... Thanks for any tips or help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.116.134.204 (talk) 22:08, 23 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

DYK for All Saints' Church, Southampton edit

On 18 April 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article All Saints' Church, Southampton, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that All Saints' Church, which was attended by Jane Austen when she lived in Southampton, was destroyed in the Second World War? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/All Saints' Church, Southampton. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, All Saints' Church, Southampton), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sulima coat of arms edit

After looking into it, I found this user's edits were to expand the article itself (the refs they removed were ones they introduced themselves). However, this article still needs to be copy-edited. A lot. So I'll look for obvious flaws to correct (like formatting issues).Crboyer (talk) 08:16, 27 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

You blocked an editor with over 117000 edits, who has been here since 2005, because his name (presumably his own name) is relatively common but is close to a supposed famous person? That seems a bit of overkill. freshacconci talk to me 10:55, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Freshacconci: please see the corresponding report at WP:UAA and the edit history that report refers to. There appears to be a clear conflict of interest which needs to be resolved, preferably by the editor in question confirming whether or not they are the subject of the article in question. I'm more than happy for the block to be reviewed by other administrators though as I agree it's a contentious one. WaggersTALK 10:58, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
please provide a link to that report and edit history; the text "Rjensen" does not appear on the WP:UAA. HLGallon (talk) 11:58, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Here's the diff of the report. You can view the edit history in question either in the page and talk page histories for Richard J. Jensen or in the user's contributions. WaggersTALK 12:01, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'm afraid that was a really terrible block. He's got proof of his identity right on his user page, a video of a Wikimania talk he gave in 2012, where he is clearly the person in our article Richard J. Jensen. If that weren't enough, his article has two sources prominently saying that he is a Wikipedian, one by him, and one in The Atlantic, saying he is a Wikipedia editor. Does he have to prove his identity to each Wikipedia administrator individually? --GRuban (talk) 13:15, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

@GRuban: He's since been unblocked, no harm done. WaggersTALK 20:17, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Did you consider talking to Rjensen and asking him about the username before hitting the block button? ~Awilley (talk) 23:11, 25 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Have you seen the backlog at UAA? I don't have time to chat to everyone that's reported there. WaggersTALK 10:43, 26 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
That's a good point. We should just have a bot block everyone who is reported at UAA. The backlog will go away, and the ones who are blocked unjustly will get unblocked, so no harm done. --GRuban (talk) 13:36, 26 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
I suggest you stop trolling now and go and contribute to an encyclopaedia or something. WaggersTALK 13:44, 26 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
While I won't pursue the matter as long as Rjensen himself doesn't, it troubles me that you don't acknowledge what you did as wrong, make no effort to apologize, and make no plans to avoid a similar incident in the future. Multiple people have said as much just here. Everyone makes mistakes, but those mistakes do need to be acknowledged as such, and learned from. --GRuban (talk) 16:26, 26 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Mistakes happen, we're all human. The username, block history and recent contributions supported the assertions made in the report, which was made in good faith. I therefore acted upon the report, in good faith. It turns out the report didn't tell the full story and there was additional information that was available, but not obviously so. As soon as I realised that, I unblocked the user and at that point the matter was settled. Your persistence in pursuing this fails to assume good faith. If Rjensen requires an apology or wishes to complain he can speak for himself, but it appears he has done the mature thing and moved on. He doesn't need you to mollycoddle him, and the Wikipedia community doesn't need users who rub others' noses in dirt. WaggersTALK 11:47, 27 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
How does anything in Jensen's block log support the assertion made? His last block was 9 years ago. Your reaction right off the bat of no harm done is also a lulu. A editor was wrongly blocked by a careless administrator= harm done....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 18:38, 3 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
I can't believe this is still being pursued weeks after the event. If you have a formal complaint to make, feel free to do so through the proper channels but please stop trolling my talk page. WaggersTALK 08:53, 6 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
