4 days ago, User:Bovineboy2008 warned User:$uperFan32 about potential disruptive edits on List of horror films of 2020 and A Quiet Place Part II. I would like to have a comment from you on this particular issue and what, if anything, should be done about this. I will notify User:Bovineboy2008 on this matter. Cardei012597 (talk) 06:38, 5 September 2020 (UTC)

I know it irritating, but this one looks like another good-faith, if not misguided, mistake. I don’t think it’s be right to indef him over something like this. Publishing another garbage draft? Sure, he’s done that way too many times. But this? I don’t think this has so much been an issue before. Sergecross73 msg me 14:58, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
User:$uperFan32 published another draft article, that was clearly not ready, today. He recieved a notice at User talk:$uperFan32#Your submission at Articles for creation: The X's (upcoming film) (September 8). It is really getting bothersome. Cardei012597 (talk) 06:11, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
Agreed, that draft is ludicrous. That one goes directly against past warnings and blocks, so I’ve reblocked. Sergecross73 msg me 13:36, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Assistance with an Article for Creation

Hello Sergecross!

I am not sure if you saw the ping from the admin Ferret, but he recommended that I ask for your help with my Article for Creation! I read your user page and I think your interest in 90s rock is applicable to this discussion. I am here to ask for assistance with the article for Kurt Kerns (Draft:Kurt Kerns) who was a member of the rock band Gravity Kills in the 90s and since then has gone on to become a notable architect which is what I believe merits him a separate article from the Gravity Kills page.

The AfC was recently Rejected, and the editor said that he was not convinced of notability, and I should try to ask another editor for their opinion. I would love for you to take a look at the page if you have time and let me know what you think! If you look at the draft's talk page, you can see the dialogue I had with the other editor about the AfC meeting the WP:AUTHOR guidelines, and his reasoning for Rejecting. I do not agree with the editor's reasonings, and I am interested in what you think of this issue.

Any assistance would be much appreciated, and I look forward to receiving your input. Thank you!

Calvin Foss (talk) 20:53, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

I’m disappointed in myself, I don’t recall this band. (I thought I had, but I was thinking of Mad at Gravity.) I will take a look into it. It can be a hard sell to be a notable drummer by Wikipedia standards unless you’re really huge or prolific (think John Bonham or Josh Freese) but I can take a look at his other professional work too. There’s various quick clean-up things you can do to help make it look better for review too. (Removing any unsourced content, fixing the section headings, etc) too. Sergecross73 msg me 22:23, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
Important to note while I pinged you for your musical expertese, the COI editor has shopped around quite a bit and already has declines from at least 5 editors. -- ferret (talk) 22:27, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. I had noticed the shopping around earlier, but not all the declines... Sergecross73 msg me 22:28, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
Sergecross73, I actually just received a green light from FULBERT who edited the draft to follow Wikipedia guidelines more clearly, and I would love for you to take another look at it if you have time! I am not employed by Kerns, I am just doing this as something I am interested in, and the COI is due to the fact that I know Kerns personally. The initial two declines on the article came when I was still working on writing the article, and it had nowhere near enough content. I hope that clarifies the situation more, and thanks again! Calvin Foss (talk) 19:27, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
There's been zero change to the sourcing situation of this draft. Fulbert just adjusted some of the flow by moving existing text. The only sourcing added since the last decline is an interview, which is a primary source and does not help in establishing notability. -- ferret (talk) 20:02, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
ferret According to Wikipedia's General notability guideline, the sourcing for an article should show that there is "significant coverage" of the topic "in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Given the numerous articles cited which primarily cover Kerns, I believe the significant coverage aspect is clearly met. The reliability of the sources which are cited is up to the discretion of who is reading them, but I found articles from reputable news organizations in St. Louis including the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis Construction News and Review, St. Louis Small Business Monthly, and St. Louis Business Journal which is part of the American City Business Journals. The issue of being independent from the subject is shown through the cited sources being from "newspaper reporters covering a story that they are not involved in except in their capacity as a reporter" (which is wording directly from WP:INDEPENDENT). While many of the sources are indeed primary and not secondary, they still provide evidence that the article's topic is notable, as the WP:GNG does not mandate that secondary sources alone make a subject notable, only that they should be used to demonstrate notability. Additionally, Kerns has coverage in a book which I cited that "provides an author's own thinking based on primary sources," which is a secondary source, although not necessarily independent. As per WP:ANYBIO, Kerns received two separate well known awards, which I noted in References 6 and 12 in the article. Additionally, WP:AUTHOR requires that a creative professional's work (or works) has received significant critical attention. As an architect, Kerns falls under the category of creative professional, and the numerous primary sources provide significant critical attention as they include multiple independent periodical articles or reviews. Maybe I am missing something, but this article's topic appears to meet the notability guideline.Calvin Foss (talk) 20:51, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
I'm more than adequately versed in policy, thanks. The sourcing present in the article is the same as was present when it was last declined, and when the last 4-5 editors you additionally approached agreed with the decline. Almost everything said above is wrong, so I'm not sure where to begin. GNG absolutely requires secondary, not primary, sourcing. ANYBIO covers well known awards. "40 under 40" is a newspaper listicle, not a well known award. "Best Places to Work" is hardly an well known and reputable award, but even if it was, it was given to the business, not him. -- ferret (talk) 22:11, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
I can see an argument for potential, but I’d have to side with the others on the stance that it’s not there yet. It doesn’t appear that any of his time in a band really contributes to his notability (the band is notable, though he doesn’t appear to any independent notability from it) and the business side coverage appears to be most interviews or not quite quite at the level were looking for (local coverage, minor awards, etc). I don’t think it’s fruitless to pursue, but I don’t think it’s there yet, and I think if it’s published as is it’ll just be sent right to WP:AFD considering how many people have voiced opposition on this. Your thoughts on this

Would you mind to look at this diff? That user seem to misunderstood the guideline that they cited and seems to be making up rules like "All games MUST use only Metacritic unless Metacritic doesn't have a score for that particular game,". Rulforth (talk) 01:53, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

That user also seems to say the opposite of the very guideline that they cited, which clearly states: "GameRankings is mainly useful for older games". Rulforth (talk) 01:56, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi. I'm leaving you this message because I see that you have contributed to other Sevendust articles. I have recently removed the redirect for the Blood & Stone article since the album was released yesterday, and I was wondering if you would like to help contribute to the article so that it doesn't get redirected again. My comfortability in editing is somewhat restricted to tracklisting and liner notes, so I wanted to reach out to other editors for help with the other areas of the article. Thanks in advance. Hey there. Yes, I’ll try to help some. That was one I planned on creating at one point. My time for Wikipedia may be hit or miss a bit in the next week, but I’ll try. I’ll add sources to the talk page too. It’s notable and shouldn’t be redirected. I’ll fight it if someone challenges it. Sergecross73 msg me 22:06, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

About my recent edit on Xenoblade Chronicles article

Hello, about my recent edit on Xenoblade Chronicles, sorry for messing it up. I left my messages in the talk page as well. My idea was that adding Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition as its own section, similar to how Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga added the 3DS version of the game Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. Because XCDE and this game have many similarities on their re-release. And my concern was the current form will make those who view the article thinking XCDE is just a typical re-release but it actually isn't.

And I also noticed the article now has first paragraph called XCDE a remaster, in the Rerelease section it is expanded remaster, and in the last Legacy section it's called a remake. Do you think it's better if not calling XCDE remaster or remake is a better solution? Since many reviews on the game some call it remaster, some expanded re-release, one source even call it a port. My Sonic 3C page

Why you would like to delete my new page , actually it isn't fully finished yet , and I will continue the page one by one so the page itself can growing .... From : Mightybread98

Was there something you didn’t understand about my talk page message to you? We don’t make separate articles for demos and prototype video games, we just mention it at its respective article (Sonic 3 in this case). Additionally, everything needs to be written according to what reliable sources say. Not only are your articles largely not sourced, but you’re not using acceptable sources either. You have to use sources by professional writers, not Sonic fansites or open - wikis like “The Cutting Room Floor” (TCRF). These are really like, the very most basic parts of editing Wikipedia, so I strongly recommend learning more before trying to create any more articles. Articles like the ones you’re making are going to be deleted every time experienced editors notice them because they stick out like a sore thumb. Sergecross73 msg me 15:02, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

Zacharyalejandro (talk) 01:45, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

@Zacharyalejandro: You've been told this before, but the IP was not "wrong". That's the normal correct way that Wikipedia articles should be referenced. What we do at the Nintendo Switch list is abnormal and not strictly supported by policy, but we do it anyways for size reasons. Expecting every possible editor to know that the list is being edited in an atypical way is unreasonable. We absolutely cannot protect the article as there's no disruption or vandalism occurring. To do so because an IP followed normal sourcing rules would actually get me or Serge in trouble. -- ferret (talk) 01:57, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
What ferret said. Zachary, I’ve said the same thing in the past. I don’t know how to break it down into terms you’ll understand. I mean, seriously, do you check the talk page of every single article you edit before making an edit every single time to make sure there aren’t any counterintuitive sourcing practices going on? Of course not. So you can’t blame random passerby editors for it either. You only have a right to be upset if it’s the same editor who keeps doing it even after when they’ve been informed. That’s when action can be taken. Sergecross73 msg me 02:17, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

I mean, I edit virtually every day, and it’s on my watchlist. Same with ferret. And the article sees very little disruption that isn’t rectified relatively quickly. If it’s stressing you out, take a break from it and others can take care of it. But the list is already generally pretty well watched over and maintained. • Yikes, that was quite the tirade. Sorry you had to see that, and that I didn’t get to it sooner, though it’s better ferret handle it since he knows range blocks. Sergecross73 msg me 01:06, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
  • Antonio Gibson (running back) could use some protection, as IPs keep changing their height despite being listed as 6'2 on three separate websites (and noted as such to help prevent this). ~ Dissident93 (talk) 05:03, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:45, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
