Hi! To start, I am Meisfunny, and I would like to welcome you to the Project. As you know, I recently decided to create WikiProject Seattle Mariners by copying the Red Sox page and doing a lot of tweaking. I still don't want it to look exactly like it, so I will be doing lots of main page work. If you just came and don't know what to do, take a look at the Priorities paragraph below.

Right now, we have four main priorities:
#Our number one priority is to recruit people for the project. I would like to have at least 4 others come September. Just use {{WP MARINERS INVITE}}.
#We need to make several extra departments, as well as replacing red link templates with content. Take a look at some of the other Baseball sub-WikiProjects if you need help. You can always copy, paste, and tweak from there.
#We need to assign people jobs. Someone to help me create the newsletter monthly, and someone (or somebot) to deliver it on time. Someone to create templates, someone to create an evaluation plan, someone to create departments and make pages where there are red links, and then finally, a LOT of people to just plain edit M's articles.
#Lastly, one other thing we really need to do is to create a barnstar to motivate people to work hard.
There is a list of jobs on the Main Project Page. If you could do one and are willing, please sign you usrername next to an unfinshed one. When a job is complete, use the <s> tag.

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Madden NFL: You may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. Hi there. You created the above page, but it should not be in article space as it is not an article, rather a page of userboxes about you. It should be in userspace, i.e. have the "User:" before the name. Will you please move it to User:WWEFAN99/userboxing or something, to put in into userspace. Thanks for uploading Image:1211.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. You revealed personal information, and as a child, that information should not be publicly available. Deleting the page removed the history and any old editions of the page, protecting the data from access. I am happy to email a copy of the page's code, if you wish to use the contents for a userpage - but please do not post personal details such as date of birth, addresses and telephone numbers. Hello! I am representing WP:MARINERS. I noticed that you have been placing the {{WikiProject Seattle Mariners}} template on talk pages. This is a great help, and I thank you, but could you also assess them using |class= and |importance=? The guidelines for writing pay-per-view articles has been updated, see here. The new guidelines should be followed in order for an article to be nominated for Good article or Featured article status.
The project has had a cleanup listing generated here. It details all the article within the project that are tagged as having problems. Please help to fix the problems outlined.

Hey, just letting you know that the code for the banner has changed, so you no longer have to mark the images/templates/categories, etc as "|class=NA" you can simply put in {{WikiProject Baseball}} and it will automatically assign the image class, template class, etc. Thanks. —Borgardetalk 08:09, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
The Future class rating has been incorporated into the project's assessment. It's intended use is for pay-per-views articles or video games that have not occurred or have been released, respectively.
We have now reached our goal of getting the number of Stub-Class articles below 600. The current count is 596. It still would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help expand and/or source an article or two. A list has been placed on the stub article subpage of stub articles of well-known wrestlers that should be fairly easy to improve.
It was announced on the August 25 television episode of Raw that John Cena had suffered a herniated disc in his neck. Cena received successful surgery the following day, and will be inactive for 2-4 months.

Rich Hinton

I noticed you removed the 1976 Cincinnati Reds template from Rich Hinton's page. He was a member of that team, though he did not play in the postseason, so I was wondering what the criteria were for adding those templates to the various player pages. OK, but that opens up a new question: what are the criteria for putting someone on the template? Is it just that they played in the postseason? If so, there are a LOT of erroneous templates out there, starting with a few Yankees World Series templates that list guys by the bunch. I remember seeing at least one discussion about those templates where the reasoning for inclusion was that if the player got a share of the postseason money, he goes on the template. That seems excessive, but there should be some guidance. I mean, if I add Hinton to the template, is someone going to kvetch? -Dewelar (talk) 22:17, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

While the project experienced it's first month and many growing pains, we accomplished many, many things. These include:
Getting 8 total members.
Getting articles by quality statistics running.
Getting most Mariner-related articles tagged with the class and importance perameters.
Getting a bot to deliver the newsletter.
Goals
Please sign up for a job, we really need people's specialties. It also let's me know you will be active. There is a list of jobs on the Main Project Page. If you could do one and are willing, please sign you usrername next to an unfinshed one. When a job is complete, use the <s> tag.
Get another 5 users.

Nathan Jones was injured in Thailand, after he was hit by a truck. Jones had recently signed a deal with TNA, but will now be out for at least 3 months.

39 of 393 articles have been prepared and submitted. Come help us prepare more at the workshop page.
Feature: Wikipedia 0.7
Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of articles taken from the English version of Wikipedia, compiled by the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team. It is designed for a DVD release, and the selection was put together using a Selection Bot, based on the quality and importance assigned by WikiProjects.
The Video games Project and its daughter projects have multiple articles among the selection and are currently working on cleaning up the articles to improve their presentation. A workshop page has been set up that is designed to assist and coordinate the effort. The status of and recommendations for articles is listed on the table. Discussion about which articles should be kept and removed from the list have been taking place on the talk page.
If you have assisted in working on and improving a current Featured article, Good article, or A-Class article, please check the workshop page to see if the article is recommended for inclusion.
Articles will need an id version submitted to ensure it is included. They will also need to be cleaned up if maintenance tags and other issues are present. Participation is not restricted, and if you can assist with the preparation effort, it would be greatly appreciated.
Things to remember for preparation
The workshop page has a notes section for each article. Clean up suggestions have been left for some articles.
Do a light sweep of the article to address any vandalism andclean up tags: citation needed, more references, lengthy plot, etc.
If you need help with an article, post on the talk page.
We apologize for not sending out our August newsletter, we have tried to cover some events of the month in this issue.
The playoffs have started! The Dodgers and Phillies have won their respective Division Series and will face off in the NL Championship Series. Both series in the American League have yet to be finished. Show your support for your favorite teams by keeping up with their season pages!

Article of the month...
Every month, I choose an article that I think needs help, or is just plain interesting. This month's article is Nickelodeon Magazine.
Nickelodeon Magazine's article needs help. There are no sources. I know, for this page, it's practically impossible to get it to a FA, but let's imagine we're trying to get it to FA status. That will be a motive for us to add sources, improve the writing, etc. Let's work on this article for the wellness of it! </pep talk>

For some time now, the Video games project and the Military history project have been cross listing their articles undergoing peer review in an effort to improve the quality of articles, as well as the copy editing skills of editors. The idea was first proposed by User:Krator as a way to better prepare articles for Featured article candidacy. After being approved by both projects, the idea was implemented under a trial period, and eventually approved as a standard practice.
New, cross listed military history articles are announced on the Video games project talk page, and listed on the Video games Peer review page under a special section. Video game editors are encouraged to leave any type of comments that come to mind. If you don't know anything about military history, that's perfectly fine because that's the point. An editor lacking knowledge about the particular topic can provide a helpful point of view as a general reader—the intended audience.
A peer review process such as this will not work if editors do not give as well as take.
Peer reviews are meant to examine not just the prose, but the sources and images used in the article.
Feedback can range from brief comments after skimming through a page to a full blown dissection of grammar, structure, and references. Either way, every bit helps.
Reviewing another editor's article can help sharpen your writing skills, which in turn can improve the articles you write.

We now have the answer on what to do with this long-lasting dispute. The community has decided to split the Nick.com section into its own article. For this reason, I have opened a sandbox here. Let's get moving so we can fix this quickly!
Slight layout changes
We have made a few layout changes, some of which are temporary. You'll notice, compared to last month's issue, that there was an image in this column. It is now gone temporarily for the holiday (double) issue. Also, we have removed the box with the delivery notice to make it less flashy (and there were div issues, if you're techie).
Article of the month

Article importance is an assessment of a topic's importance in understanding a specific higher level topic. Assessments are maintained by WikiProjects and reflect the project's view of what is essential to understanding their scope. In the VG Project's case, all importance scales are in terms of understanding video games.
Recent discussions at the VG Project's talk page have called for revisions to the practice of assigning article importance. The discussion began in mid-November with the goal of clarifying what level of importance should be assigned to certain type of articles. It eventually expanded to creating a standardized table of importance to serve as a guide for current and future editors.
The discussion has focused on and shifted to several topics including flaws of previous practices, new ways to view assessment, other project practices to emulate, and specific articles which are exceptions to proposed guidelines. A brief pole and discussion determined most editors felt that the bulk of some topics—specifically individual video game, series, and character articles—were not essential to understanding video games, making them ineligible for top importance. The discussion then shifted to tweaking the wording and layout of the table.
The current proposed table is being discussed on the project's talk page, and the issue of whether some topics—specifically character articles—should be allowed to be rated importance has also been brought up. As always, member are encouraged to voice their opinions and engage in discussion to determine consensus so the new assessment scale can be implemented.
This is a new section in the newsletter to help familiarize project members with the Manual of Style, which should help them in editing not only professional wrestling articles, but all articles in general.
Avoid using bolding to emphasize text. See MOS:BOLD for appropriate uses of bold text.
If you do not want your information removed from articles, please use proper grammar and cite your sources.
Avoid jargon such as face/babayface, heel, turn, etc. in articles. People unfamiliar with professional wrestling will not understand what these words mean. See WP:JARGON for more information.

Due to a new consensus formed by Wikipedia users, dates should be unlinked in all articles, per WP:MOSNUM.
Please familiarize yourself with the general notability policy of Wikipedia. Avoid creating new articles that do not satisfy the requirements.
Avoid overlinking in an article. If a subject has been linked once already in the body paragraphs, there is no need to link it again, unless the length of the article requires it to be linked a second time. Lists are the only exceptions to this policy.

A search bar has been added to the archive box on the VG project talk page. Searching the discussion archives is now much easier.
Feature: Video game notability
Video game related articles fall under niche categories on Wikipedia: "Culture and the arts" and "Everyday life". Because of this, they are often required to demonstrate notability more than other topics. Wikipedia defines notability as "worthy of notice", and considers it distinct from fame, importance, and popularity. Though it is acknowledge to be related to fame and the like, it is important understand that being famous, important, or popular does not mean a video game article should be on Wikipedia.
Being notable means that a topic has "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Wikipedia's policy also stipulates that this only presumes to "satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article." This means that though an article may meet the criteria on paper, it is up to the community to decide if a topic truly is notable and/or violates other policies such as WP:NOT. In short, just because a video game, character, or related topic exists, does not mean it should also exist as a Wikipedia article.
Dealing with non-notable topics
Articles that do not meet the criteria are either deleted or merged into a relevant topic.
WP:Articles for deletion (AfD) handles the deletion of non-notable articles, among other types, and has an established process to begin discussions about reasons for deletion.
If an article is a subarticle of a larger topic, merging it into the larger topic article is a more desirable action. For example, the main character of a video may not be notable, but has received some mentions in reviews. It would benefit both topics, the character and its video game, to include the content into the article of the video game; essentially using a small, weaker article to strengthen a larger more notable article.
Things to remember
The best way to show notability is to provide reliable sources about the topic.
Notability is less about keeping articles out of Wikipedia and more about making sure readers are provided articles about significant, quality topics.
While you may think a topic is notable, others may disagree. Try to keep a clear perspective when assessing notability so discussions can reach a consensus.
AfD is more of a last resort and is not always the best course of action to take.
Consider starting a merger discussion first, as some editors may not fully understand why an article they started is not suitable for Wikipedia.

This list is of topics that may be easy (or are fairly close) to Good Topic status. Consider helping by improving an article on the list that is not yet at Good Article status.
Consider expanding an article from the project's list of stub articles and nominating it at Did You Know?. The project's goal is to have 100 total DYKs by the end of the year.
All Wikipedia articles should be written from a neutral point-of-view, representing fairly, and as far as possible without bias, all significant views that have been published by reliable sources.
When the title of an refers to several things, it is necessary to provide links or disambiguate the page so that readers typing in that title can quickly navigate to the article that interests them. For example: World Heavyweight Championship (WWE).
Addition of content that is likely to be challenged in an article needs to be verified with a reliable source
Do not overlink terms in an article, only make links where they are relevant to the context.
When creating an article that has an image, make sure the image is right-aligned in the lead or in the infobox, per MOS:IMAGES.
Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Madden NFL: You may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
