Today

edit

The today article you edited isn't working right. There seems to be some sort of a caching issue with the way the page tells you the current date. When I first loaded the page it was 1 day late, but when I edited the page and clicked preview it gave me the correct date range. Refreshing the page doesn't help, only editing the page and clicking preview does.--71.194.190.179 (talk) 17:13, 16 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Lynbarn, Automated is an official gender-neutral term used by NASA and other space companies. I like uncrewed as well. I just added a section to the article Unmanned resupply spacecraft to ask that the name be changed to Automated. Could you please join the discussion and get the name changed to either Automated or uncrewed. --Abebenjoe (talk) 00:22, 16 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi. When you recently edited BBC Computer Literacy Project 2012, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages IDE and Python (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). MOSNUM @ MH370

edit

Re this, MOSNUM states:

Notes and exceptions:

  • Numbers in mathematical formulae are never spelled out (3 < π < 22/7, not three < π < 22 sevenths).
  • Comparable quantities should be all spelled out or all figures:
  •  five cats and thirty-two dogs, not five cats and 32 dogs.
  •  86 men and 103 women, not eighty-six men and 103 women
  •  There were 3 deaths and 206 injuries or Three died and two hundred six were injured, not There were three deaths and 206 injuries
  • But adjacent quantities not comparable should usually be in different formats: twelve 90-minute volumes or 12 ninety-minute volumes, not 12 90-minute volumes or twelve ninety-minute volumes.

So while you are generally right, the series of numbers form part of the exception mentioned. Regards, -- Ohc ¡digame! 01:59, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

"Not relevant"? This is the first time an international search for an airliner has taken place in two hemispheres, to the best of my knowledge. kencf0618 (talk) 23:43, 3 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

possibly, although there have been air-sea searches over the equator many times before - I remember an RAF Shackleton lost in the Indian Ocean in the 60s A friend of mine's father was lost on that occasion. It doesn't need to be in the sub-headers though. Regards, Lynbarn (talk) 23:45, 3 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Lynbarn I posted my edit on the talk page as I am posting it below. If you dont want to Help me, I will release it to the international media and show wikipedia is wrong and making assumptions not factual as to how MH370 was found. Get your facts right, as I have already made Breaking news in this matter over 15 times and for more than 10 days straight.

Facts matter, not speculation, get it right or this entire page will be made a spectacle in the media as well. The following is True and Correct and needs to be applied appropriately. So plz help me as requested or be made a media spectacle for posting false information.

Please be advised the MH370 page is dramatically incorrect, The inmarsat data report was incorrectly translated, A person from Pensacola, FL USA was responsible for re-translating correctly and reconverted the data in the appropriate mapping technology that is also know as the "Most creditable Lead we have" in the JACC press conferences. This individual gave approximate location as the inmarsat data was converted by him into Mapping technology and on April 8th gave the final coordinates to the JACC and prior assisted is ALL refined search area up to and identified ping location. He also was able to identify that the inmarsat Northern arc was misapplied and never existed as the arc diagram was also a mapping grid providing actual coordinates to MH370, additionally this individual also has identified the actual flight path from water entry point to the NE to North directly from Vanish point from Gulf of Thialandas showing all inmarsat data was actually a mapped diagram of distress calls monitoring MH370 from equipment malfunction or vanish point site as designed by the B777 as well as what occurred after the unknown incident causing MH370 to vanish from radar and travel from the Gulf of Thailand S to SE over Jakarta to water entry point. The Malay radar received a Radar reflection froma dramatic drop in altitude in which the B777 altimeter and Terrain mapping technology took over by default from point +0 to negative -0 by default of the geomagnetic mapping system upon default designed by the B777. Although, this information is being held closely to the vest of the JACC investigation it has all been verified by the JACC out of the respect for the families as they should be notified first and arrangements are currently being made to fly them in and discuss the memorial and wreckage questions as to their wishes for the resting place of loved ones and location of memorial and to say goodbyes from water entry point. Please advise as of additional information and to appropriate list Facts as to this matter and how MH370 was located.

(talk page stalker) Surely you can provide reliable sources that will allow our readers to verify these facts? Please do so at the article's talk page. Huon (talk) 23:49, 11 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Huon, but this isn't really something I can help with - I don't have any knowledge of specific sources, but if the OP, Prose072, were to enter into discussion on the article's talk page as I suggested, maybe somebody could help. Frankly, after being threatened on my own talk page, I am rather disinclined to assist this particular editor any further. Regards, Lynbarn (talk) 00:53, 12 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Exe (locomotive)

edit

The article Exe (locomotive) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. No evidence of awards, charting or in depth coverage in independent reliable sources. No refs in > 4 years.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stuartyeates (talk) 23:28, 5 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I see that you deprodded it (which I would have done had you not got there first). It looked like a drive-by PROD anyway: the phrase "No evidence of awards, charting or ..." suggests a music album, not a railway locomotive. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:50, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Redrose64, Thanks, I did wonder about the charting reference, although he does have a point. I think I'll merge this and the other similar articles into a single "Yeo Class locomotives of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway" or similarly-named article. Okay. Thanks. March Madness 2017

edit

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. User group for Military Historians

edit

Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

edit

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Proposed deletion of ZX Spectrum Next

edit

The article ZX Spectrum Next has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:REDUNDANTFORK from ZX_Spectrum

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

I can't see any way that this machine is going to be able to justify it's own page.
