Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:
If you're ready for the complete list of Wikipedia documentation, there's also Wikipedia:Topical index.
Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.
Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Though I see that since you've been around for a month or so, you've probably worked all this out for yourself. :-) Leithp(talk) 10:36, 17 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

The Military history WikiProject is currently holding elections for project coordinators. Any member of the project may nominate themselves and all are encouraged to vote here.
An independent military history peer review has been created for the benefit of the project. A number of articles have already been reviewed, receiving significantly more feedback within the project than they did on the generic peer review page.
Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Military history WikiProject's newsletter! We hope that this new format will help members—especially those who may be unable to keep up with some of the rapid developments that tend to occur—find new groups and programs within the project that they may wish to participate in.
Please consider this inital issue to be a prototype; as always, any comments and suggestions are quite welcome, and will help us improve the newsletter in the coming months.
Proposed guidelines for categories of military people are currently being discussed. A number of issues have already been resolved, but the proposed scheme is still in draft form and further input would be very welcome.

Hey there, I'm a fellow Indonesian. I was thinking probably we could make a well-establish WikiProject Indonesia, apart from the regional notice board. It saddens me that even the Indonesia article is not a featured article. What do you think about that? Oh, have you checked the new Portal:Indonesia? Looking forward to your reply. Take care and cheers -- Imoeng 11:08, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I made some changes in cavalry tactics to tune in your contributions and the well sourced info on cataphract. As the article points out, even for the Persians it's not always clear to what degree the cataphracts (especially the archers) could be considered heavy, for they wore less and less armor in order to counter the swift Nomads' attacks. This article is a translation from German. I know it has citation problems, but adding new material should have a sources, especially if extraordinary claims are made such as in your case about the caracole. Edit summaries are a serious business and jokes about it is disruptive behaviour. Wandalstouring (talk) 17:21, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I read the section. I'm not sure you understood it correctly because it is difficult to read. On page 98 he describes how rank after rank fires and then wheels off to the flanks, what essentially results in a pincer movement (page 97) if enemy troops make a quick frontal attack(cavalry charge). Perhaps you should use this source and reword the entry on caracole that it was firing rank after rank and that it also served as a tactic to counter frontal cavalry charges. The thing is different against infantry, there the pincer movement is to no avail and firepower (denser formation of soldiers armed with guns and better aiming) of the footsoldiers was better by the Thirty Years' War. Thanks for the sources. Wandalstouring (talk) 18:07, 5 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Really? His firing-by-ranks maneuver was meant for the Harquebusiers, not for the Cuirassiers who were supposed to do the "carracoll"; and the nowhere does he mention that the Harquebusiers' maneuver of filing off to the flanks (after firing by advanced rank) was called a "caracole." Like I've said before, I'll go and check with Wallhausen first--he should have more detailed information that will divorce the word "caracole" from the idea of skirmishing by ranks before an infantry formation. Otherwise, Gordon Frye [1] should be able to tell you more about this. Lay (talk) 06:50, 6 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

Latest comment: 6 years ago1 comment1 person in discussion
As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
