Re: WP:CSD#U1

Darn, I fotgot I had that on so many pages. Sorry about that, and I hope it didn't cause too much trouble. Thanks for the heads-up, Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 17:40, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Userfication for maximum bob article.

i do not hink your proposal for userfying the maximum bob (singer) article instead of undeletion is a good idea. first off, I did not write the article initially, I just wanted to make it better and contain real information about maximum bob. second, I believe when I'm done editing the article, it can pass off as a regular article. Also, I dont quite understand the concept of userfication. also, if you undelete it, will everything that was in it initially still be there? thanks for listening

User:Telebyte and Hawaii Superferry

Please keep an eye on this. We've got a new WP:SPA who doesn't think the article needs NPOV. As a result, the editor has removed all criticism from the article as well as its controversial history. I've tagged the page, warned the user, and asked the user to engage in discussion on the talk page in a new section. Some of the problematic editing can be seen here. I haven't reverted the user as of yet, as it seems they are only just getting started. Still no response to my repeated call to use the talk page and answer some questions. The user account seems to have been created for the express purpose of editing Hawaii Superferry. Viriditas (talk) 00:35, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

You're right--from their edits, it's clear that they're an alternate account of an established user using an SPA. I've posted a fairly detailed warning on their talk page, and I'll keep an eye on their activity. Although I'm in a position to follow through with a block due to the fact that I'm uninvolved with the article in question (naturally, any blocks would be accompanied with a post on WP:ANI for transparency), I'd rather leave any reversions of the content to yourself and others so there's no question about misuse of the tools. Thanks for the hard work! --jonny-mt 02:40, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. The user has now begun adding some of the criticism back into the article and has engaged in discussion on the talk page for the first time. Your warning seems to have sped things along. I'll keep you updated. Viriditas (talk) 02:53, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Please advise how to write an article so it will not be deleted

Hi, Jonny !

You have deleted article about company I work for :-) - Real Time Components. I tried to write an article without advertising, even deleted many things... but looks like I failed. If you don't mind, I will write another one, but it will be good if you tell how to avoid unwanted words and ads. I think that my company have the right to be in Wikipedia like many others - it is part of our world and more then, we are small company, but our president is very smart guy and we did really great things. There are many articles about small companies here - I read them and tried to do something like they created. Please give me some advise - I do not want to make some kind of commercial ad - our customers do not use Wikipedia to look for electronic components :-) they use BrokerForum where our inventory is uploaded.

Thank you in advance !

WBR, Max. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Logovaz (talkcontribs) 18:34, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Max,
Your article was actually unique in that I deleted it for two reasons: it did not have a claim to notability and it seemed to be blatant advertising. If you haven't already, I would suggest you look through the examples in User:jonny-mt/CSD to get an idea of the kind of articles that get deleted.
More to the point, you need to remember that you have a conflict of interest, and so it is in your best interest to write as little as possible about your company in order to maintain a neutral point of view. You don't need to put in all of your suppliers or discuss how "Real Time Components gets possibility to deliver goods faster and faster"--as you mentioned, Wikipedia is not the place to discuss this information.
Please take a look through our notability guidelines for companies and organizations and decide whether or not your company fulfills any of those criteria. If it does, then I would suggest simply creating a stub noting why it is notable, providing a source backing up that claim, and letting others build it up over time. If it doesn't, then the simple truth is that it will eventually be deleted one way or another.
Sorry I can't provide you with a foolproof way to prevent your article from being deleted, but I hope this helps! --jonny-mt 01:24, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Request for return of original article

Hi Jonny, Can you please return my original deleted article to me. I have worked on a new, improved version that should be acceptable. If you are unable to return the original article to me, can you please advise on how I resubmit my new article. Sincerely, Curt Q12345q --Q12345q (talk) 02:31, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Curt,
It seems that the userfied article was deleted again as spam by Toddst1 (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA). While I am a bit surprised that he either didn't see or simply disregarded my edit summary about restoring and userfying the article, his deletion was not out of process.
If you have a new article ready to go, may I suggest instead that you go ahead and try creating it either in the main namespace or in your sandbox? If you need the previous text to do so, then I would suggest contacting Todd at his user talk, as I'm a little hesitant to undelete again and risk a wheel war. Thanks! --jonny-mt 02:48, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the help!

Thanks Jonny, I was already able to get the original article back from Toddst1. Before submitting the revised article, is it possible for you to take a quick look at it to see if you think its been cleaned up of the "advertising"? If so, how? Sincerely, Curt --Q12345q (talk) 03:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Anti-tobacco movement in Nazi Germany

Hi, can you please look at the article Anti-tobacco movement in Nazi Germany. I have put a "unconstruction" template, but one User:DAJF is continuously blanking the page saying it is copyright infringement. Many of the information of this article came from BMJ, but that is not copy paste. I will change the semantics more. I am just constructing the basic structure of the article, but frustrated by this user. Will add much more references, but I need a little time to complete the article which is not given. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 08:26, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, based on the procedural instructions at Wikipedia:Copyright problems, the page as it stands should be left alone until a decision has been made seven days from now. The idea is that this way an administrator can delete the infringing material completely from the visible history.
If you'd like to work on it, the copyvio page suggests creating a copy at Talk:Anti-tobacco movement in Nazi Germany/Temp and doing so there. Alternately, you can work on it in your sandbox and move it over later. I hate to tell you, but based on what I'm seeing DAJF appears correct in their reversion of your edits. If this is overly frustrating or confusing, I'd be happy to delete the page so you can work on creating a new version in your sandbox and move it over once everything is sorted out. --jonny-mt 08:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, then I will work on it on my sandbox. I am tagging the mainspace article with db-author. After completely finishing the article, I will move it on mainspace. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 08:38, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan--I've gone ahead and deleted the mainspace article. Good luck, and I'm really looking forward to reading your article! --jonny-mt 08:41, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Vandal: User: Mahaakaal

I noticed I have been under your spotlight regarding the above vandal.

Please allow me to clear some details which you may or may not be aware.

I'm not an expert on wikipedia tech but am qualified historian on South Asian cultural and religious ideologies.

The above user has on many occasions deleted cited ref. material on more than 3 occasions, eg. see Nanak

He claims Nanak (founder of Sikhism) is revered by Muslims by adding dubious additional facts to back these wild claims. As you may be aware, Mohammed is the founder of Islam and not Nanak. Incidentally (Punjab exists in two countries, India and Pakistan).

He continues on many topics to delete, manipulate and tangle facts. I have reported this User talk:Theresa knott

I hope both of you could see what we are dealing with ? Regards —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.196.3.2 (talk) 09:38, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your message. To be honest, none of your edits nor his edits are vandalism; rather, you are simply having a content dispute. The best way to handle this is to follow the BRD principle--be bold, get reverted, and then discuss it. Failure to discuss results in edits simply being reverted back and forth, which is called an edit war and is not desirable. In short, then, while I will be happy to take a look and see if and protection or blocks need to be applied, this is something for the two of you to work out together. If you cannot, there is always dispute resolution. (And incidentally, it makes it easier to keep track of who is doing what if you register.) Thanks! --jonny-mt 16:35, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Your message

Do I not have the right, even the obligation, to respond to a false accusation?Jimintheatl (talk) 13:24, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I have no interest in addressing the question of which one of you is in the right here--my honest preference is that the two of you disengage from one another completely. However, I will tell you that there is no excuse for incivility, and that accusing another editor of having a case of "exaggerated self-importance" in your second edit coming off of a block following a warning given as a the last step in a trail of warnings for long-term incivility/edit warring/personal attacks, etc. is unacceptable. I know it may be hard to believe, but simply letting things slide will allow you to be a much happier, much more productive editor. --jonny-mt 16:19, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I was not asking you to decide who was in the right. I am saying that I did not initiate the incivility. Is it not incivility to accuse someone of stalking? Or to accuse someone of bad faith w/o cause? I cannot let a false accusation slide; sorry, but I have to respond to lies about me. My initial response was to delete the response (for which I was blocked); then I posted an "in-kind" response. I will try to respond more civilly, but I will respond to defamatory remarks. You ask that we disengage, and I would be happy to never encounter this other editor again, but he/she seems to have an almost Pavlovian urge to revert any edit I propose.Jimintheatl (talk) 01:56, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
By the way, I do appreciate your advice and measured tone, even if I have vented some of my annoyance in your space....Jimintheatl (talk) 02:01, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
And I appreciate your willingness to discuss this. For the record, I disagreed with the charge of wikistalking, and the block was not made based solely on your removal of that comment--rather, it was based on the fact that your talk page and edit history indicated that you have been fairly combative during your time here and the fact that you apparently ignored my warning calling your attention to this. Blocks are not punitive, this is true, but they are tools that can be useful both to prevent further disruption and send a firm message to a user that their behavior needs to change.
I understand the drive to respond to criticism or comments that one views as unfair or damaging, but at the risk of sounding almost evangelical I can tell you that simply trusting in the system is your best recourse here. There's nothing that an editor in a conflict with you--and this includes admins, who are prohibited from using the tools in areas where they are directly involved--can unilaterally do that has the ability to stop you from editing, undo your work, or impugn your character. It's simply in your best interest, then, to let as much slide as possible, approach problems with a cooperative mindset, and focus on contributing to the goals of the project by helping to build content. If you can do all that, I guarantee that Wikipedia will be a much more enjoyable place for you :) --jonny-mt 02:31, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Wow....Thank you, Master. Signed, Grasshopper.Jimintheatl (talk) 02:38, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Can't find new article when searched

Hi Jonny, Last night I revised my previously deleted article and clicked "save" once done editing it. However, this morning when I put the title of the article "Saloon Doors Emporium" in Wikipedia's search window, the article did not come up. Is there something more I need to do? Thanks Curt --Q12345q (talk) 14:44, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

The article is still in your userspace, which is why it won't show up in a search. However, I have to tell you that it's not ready for primetime yet--as it stands now, it could be speedily deleted as a non-notable company. You might want to take another look through WP:ORG and see if you can't find a good way to establish notability before moving it. --jonny-mt 16:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

BAD DELETE

Why did you delete the pspsex.net entry. It has every right to exist if http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veoh and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouPorn and dozen other ones are on there. The sites are even on the same list in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_video_services and each one has a wiki. WP:HAU

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 22:33, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

CeraSport article deleted

I posted an article regarding CeraSport, an oral hydration solution, on Wikipedia on June 4th 2008. It was deleted within 4 minutes of posting (no way it could have been reviewed that quickly). I understand why it was deleted--it was seen as a marketing technique. However, Gatorade and Powerade, two competitors with CeraSport have articles that are worded in the same way. Please let me know what I can edit or remove from the article to make it work. I would like to put the page up soon and your input would be very helpful. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcurtin1 (talkcontribs) 20:49, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

SuperSuperBoi

Nice work, Jonny. I have to tell you, I had very strong suspicions that we were being trolled, but I kept my mouth shut because I've been told that accusing someone of being a troll is a personal attack and a violation of AGF. But, in the end, you figured it out. Good work. Viriditas (talk) 09:59, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

BTW, since Category:United States ghettos and Category:Economically disadvantaged communities in the United States were both created by this user, should they be deleted and the CfD's closed? Viriditas (talk) 10:09, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Haha I wish I could take all of the credit, but the truth is that I got an e-mail from an editor alerting me to SuperSuperBoi's activities. I think this marks the third time I've dealt with the same individual, but it was the first time I got to block them myself!
As far as the CfDs go, I think we can delete and close Category:United States ghettos, but there are some good-faith supports for keeping Category:Economically disadvantaged communities in the United States, so I think it's best to let that one run. Since Qrc2006 was never formally banned by the community or ArbCom, the question of whether or not their contributions should remain is a little bit of a gray area--on the flipside, the fact that they have reincarnated as numerous disruptive sockpuppets multiple times makes it highly unlikely that any administrator would propose unblocking them.... --jonny-mt 02:54, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

re: RfA Suggestion

With all due respect, I'd prefer not to withdraw it just yet. While I recognize that I am certainly not off to anywhere near a good start, I'd like to let it run at least 24-48 hours to - if nothing else - draw a good amount of feedback from the community. Now, if it becomes a WP:SNOW situation, I'll be more than willing to withdraw early, but part of why I'm doing this now is to gather some honest feedback from the community about where I stand and where I need to improve, if not successfully passing. Regards, --InDeBiz1 (talk) 04:06, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough, then; thanks for telling me. I see that you already have an editor review going for additional feedback--just make sure to keep in mind that any critical remarks made both there and at your RfA are made to help you improve as an editor, not judge you as a person. --jonny-mt 04:12, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
I totally understand. As I said, if nothing else I'll draw some strong feedback from the process that I can use to further develop my skills toward a (hopefully) successful run in the future. Regards, --InDeBiz1 (talk) 04:20, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Portal:Hawaii and DYK

Are you aware that some portals are using article DYK's on their portals? I think the DYK's we currently have up were invented for the portal and are not actual DYK's, but I could be wrong. What I would like to do is create a category for all of Hawaii-related DYK's and have the portal page randomly rotate them on Portal:Hawaii/Did you know. Viriditas (talk) 14:22, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, the DYKs we have up right now are written specially for the portal. I think that using real DYKs is a really good idea, but I'm not 100% how they would best be rotated--the current system relies on numbered subpages and chooses one to show at a time. While we could certainly just put in multiple random elements, this means we would run a risk of having duplicated DYKs show up on the portal. We don't have enough DYKs that we can just set up multiple pages with multiple DYKs on them, do we? --jonny-mt 14:57, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm thinking ahead of myself as usual, but the current DYK process involves tagging an article talk page. I've begun adding the tag to the project header. What we should be doing is adding the DYK text to a field in the project tag that can be read by the portal page or updated by a bot used by the project. I'm sure there are many other ways to do it. But, you're right, we don't have enough DYK's. I just wanted to alert you that I might be fiddling with it if you don't get to it before I do. Viriditas (talk) 15:05, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

My RfA

Hello, Jonny-mt, and thank you for your recent participation in my RfA, which was closed per WP:NOTNOW after reaching a vote tally of 5/15/2. While I am disappointed in the outcome, I understand that it - as well as the comments left by yourself and others - was in the best interests of Wikipedia at this time. I plan to take everything that was written to heart and improve myself here on Wikipedia with a goal of perhaps accepting a nomination again in the future, should someone choose to nominate me. As a way of gathering further feedback, I have created a page in my user space for other editors to leave comments about things that they might have observed during my RfA and to continue my "education process," as it may be considered. If you would like to contribute to that page, it may be found here. Again, thank you for participating and I appreciate your comments! --InDeBiz1 (talk) 17:52, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Now even more confused.

Jonny

I am in discussion with nancy on the page you have deleted. We re-submitted for her to look at as the original edit appeared to have disappeared. I feel our content was much more relevant than an existing listing which I used partly as a guideline to get things right - Loomia - can you explain what the difference is?

Thanks

I'm literally about to step out, so I'll be brief--take a look through User:jonny-mt/CSD, and please note that sentences like "Their software makes websites more efficient by adding machine intelligence, and helps visitors find or do what they want more quickly by dispaying highly relevant and targetted content to them." are the kind of things I look for when deleting articles written as advertisements. --jonny-mt 10:48, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Rob,
Unfortunately, the version you specified would qualify for speedy deletion under criteria A7 (the criteria Nancy used), as it doesn't have a claim to importance that would indicate it is a notable company. Even in the presence of such claims, you have to have verification from independent, reliable sources (preferably secondary sources) to bolster your claims, or it can still be deleted via a slower, more thoughtful process. --jonny-mt 01:07, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

I think user Tolivero has just reuploaded the logo I assume you speedily deleted at Image:UNC-CH Logo.png over the existing image at Image:University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seal.png. I've reverted the image page, but am not able to delete the image, which appears to be an imitation of a register trademarked image. From what I can tell from the article history/talk page there seems to have been disruption in the past, so I don't know if some form of protection would be appropriate. Hippo (talk) 15:18, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Hmm. I'm not up on my Tarheels trivia, but I wasn't able to verify that the current seal is the correct one, either. Based on an apparent history of problems with copyright issues, I went ahead and left a warning on User talk:Tolivero, but since the first deletion was done primarily because it had been superseded by another version and less because it fit the criteria of WP:CSD#I9, I'm inclined to let the alternate version alone (see [1] and [2] for sources, by the way). For the time being, though, as long as the image doesn't get too big it's all right under WP:NFC. --jonny-mt 15:48, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

But of course you can! All editors are encouraged to be bold and make changes. You'll make mistakes along the way, but trust me when I say that it's impossible to really screw anything up. I've left a (much belated) welcome message on your user talk page that will provide you with the basic information you need to get started. Just approach things with a collaborative mindset and you'll be just fine.
Happy editing! --jonny-mt 06:26, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

RE: Yara Lorenzo

Hi Jonny-mt, I may have just left a mssg. but I can't find it so I will try again. I was wondering why Yara Lorenzo was deleted? There was some discussion of notability on the page but I did not think there was consensus. Her article was comporable to other activist stubs and there were a few sources. How can I change it to get it back up there for her? Thank you for your help! 65.212.108.131 (talk) 19:04, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi there,
Thanks for your question. I closed the deletion discussion after it had run for the allotted time (technically twice as long as the standard allotted time) and deleted the article based on the consensus that she is not a notable individual--that is, she has not received significant coverage in secondary sources.
When making this close, though, I recognized that a couple of commentators had brought up sources that could potentially be used to establish her notability. However, there had been no further discussion or significant changes to the article in the four or five days since this possibility had been raised, and so I closed it with an offer to userfy the article--that is, restore the deleted article in a registered user's userspace so they could continue to work on and improve it if they so desired. As the article was deleted for failing to properly establish the notability of the subject, rectifying this problem could turn it into a viable article. --jonny-mt 01:19, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick response! I am working on my stub (this is the author). I'm working on the stub, but my question to you should I delete stuff? Change the wording? I added every source I had which was about 10, and a couple articles. I can alter content to make it sound more neutral but, in terms of my sources I thought I had many more than a few of the activist I had seen up on here and felt a little snubbed! I know you guys are doing your job, so any additional guidance on this would be great. Thanks again for your help. Yara 69.246.171.153 (talk) 11:16, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny

I don't think a prod would be advisable for the article, since it is sure to be disputed. The article has gone through AFD 4 times, and I think it would be best if it was put through AFD. bibliomaniac15 01:12, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Ack! I just glanced at the history and the talk page and when I didn't see a big fat banner I thought it was all right. Thanks for the heads up--it seems that the previous discussions were rife with WP:OTHERSTUFF arguments, but hopefully we can come to a solid decision on what to do with the article this time. --jonny-mt 01:19, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Rollyta

Thank you very much for the advices! It is a very big help to me as a new editor and as a person (self-confidence, esteem, sense of belongings, etc.). By the way I quit my college ten (10) years ago, I was already in third year majoring in Bachelor of Science in Electrical engineering but at present I am currently leading a team of engineers for the patenting of a new machine that will generate electricity without consuming any form of fuel at all! I call it a "Magnetic Motor" and I hope my team will also agree. The motor is composed of magnets alone and uses the energy of magnets also to generate torque which will then drive an electricity generator. I hate to say this very early but maybe it's for the best.--Rollyta (talk) 02:15, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

By the way, jonny-mt, Where and whose talk pages will I sign my votes for?Rollyta (talk) 02:27, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

How do you mean "vote"? --jonny-mt 02:51, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I'm a new comer and I do'nt care about voting at this time but I think I saw an invitation to vote in every heading of the page that I went a few days ago but I do not see it now...--Rollyta (talk) 04:35, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Actually I think I deleted the whole article of "Halfwave Antenna" instead of the edits that I made that was supposed to be cancelled!

By the way, feel free to open my contributions to see it personally and tell me the best thing to do to recover the contents...!--Rollyta (talk) 04:46, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

All right, first thing's first--have a look at WP:TALK, which describes effective ways of using talk pages. While I'm glad you're enthusiastic and leaving me lots of messages, it's easier to follow the conversation when you keep threads together and indent your responses.
Second, I didn't see anything on Halfwave antenna, but your contributions show some edits to quad antenna--is this what you were looking for?
And finally, while I'm more than happy to help you in any way that I can, you might (occasionally) get a faster, more thorough response to your questions at the help desk. Happy editing! --jonny-mt 05:40, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
