Pasta brownie

I was actually just about to message you when you sent that. I changed it to speedy deletion without realizing that an admin. had negated the reasoning for it being patent nonsense, which I don't quite understand. Then the user removed your PROD tag and the mess in my tired mind ensued and I realized it is just better to do an AFD and have a bunch of people notice what a ridiculous article it is. I'm a chef myself, the notion of a brownie flying up into the air (no one noticed this?) and landing on a lasagna and a patron being over joyed by this is ummm patent nonsense. Then for their business to triple for this disgusting catastrophe? Combined with your notice of the pictures copyright ridiculousness and the fact that I found that the user placed the picture on a bunch of articles as vandalism, hrmmmm vandalism article ya think? You do know that if you add the template {{lowercase|Jonny-mt}} to the top of youe user page that you can bypass the Wiki sortware so that your title will read: User:jonny-mt, instead of User:Jonny-mt. I just thought you would like to know so you can stick it to the man! Good luck editing.

PatentCafe Delete

Hi Johnny

I'm contacting you to discuss deletion of PatentCafe. I had posted the "Hangon" and posted an explanation, but the page was deleted as my talk was submitted.

First - as a publisher of an major online magazine www.ipfrontline.com - I'm sympathetic to your strict guidelines. By the same token, I maintain the same strict standards on articles that PatentCafe publishes. I consulted every WIKI guideline, as well as the objectivity rules we impose on contributed articles, to try and ensure that the PatentCafe article met those standards.

I will be very receptive to specific comments on how to modify this page - and in fact, I did modify significantly after the first Speedy Delete.

I took great care in developing objective, factual, and important-to-industry information about the company and its products. I believed that I followed both the spirit and letter of the guidelines.

Further, I tried to very closely model PatentCafe after the AT&T page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At%26t - one of PatentCafe's customers, and the company that recommended that I create the article on PatentCafe.

PatentCafe plays a very important part in the worldwide intellectual property community - as a thought leader and speaker to the world's patent offices, to developer of software to comply with current and pending patent regulations.

Again - while I indeed discussed PatentCafe in detail - I attempted to do so in a completely objective, nothing overstated, everything factual basis, addressing the business and core technology, market, and product links as I followed fro AT&T's article template.

Please let me know specifics on what needs to be done to have the PatentCafe article approved, and I will address those points a.s.a.p.

Regarding PatentCafe importance to the industry - you can google the following query:

ipfrontline OR patentcafe -site:www.cafezine.com -site:www.patentcafe.com -site:www.ipfrontline.com

This looks for pages linking to PatentCafe or ipfrontline (and cafezine- it's predecessor), but EXCLUDE pages from PatentCafe and IPFrontline. I think you may find about 42,800 sites or links back to PatentCafe websites. Is this enough?

I agree with the "about the company" section being small -- it was 3 AM here, and I was running out of steam. Even the other sections need work - for instance, the Latent Semantic Analysis search technology that has some level if visibility on Wikipedia - but much of it only theory. PatentCafe succeeded in accomplishing an artificial intelligence patent search engine that IBM, DuPont, US government R&D labs, and many others worldwide rely on.

It's that search capability that's now a focal point for Senate debates and Senate disappointments that the US Patent Office has not yet achieved this level of search technology. More than $2 billion in patent infringement awards have been settled this year alone - and you alreadyknow the Blackberry lawsuit, and iPhone lawsuits that threaten these companies continuing to delivery their technology.

Anyway - I'll re-work the "about the company" and build more neutral content into the page.

I would kindly ask for your thoughts regarding the number of links back to PatentCafe's pages -- and whether you think I should include comment somewhere when I re-post the page to alert you (or a different editor) about these links and "industry's knowledge, and importance of" PatentCafe's resources? IS there are "READ ME" tag or similar I can add comments to - but that can be removed later?

CSD tagging of vanity bios

Thanks for CSD tagging vanity bios, "So-and-so is coolest kid around" and so forth, but I have noticed that you tagged them with {{db-vandalism}}. These articles are not really vandalism. Instead, you should tag them with {{db-bio}}. The {{db-vandalism}} should only be used where the new editor is not making a good faith effort at the article. Most of these vanity articles are just editors who are not familiar with how Wikipedia works, so treating them with a gentler hand might induce them to contribute something constructive. =) -- Gogo Dodo 05:56, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

It's not too big of a problem, at least as far as I'm concerned, but proper tagging will make the deletion a bit faster and might prevent future problems like you ran into. I know what you mean by articles that don't quite fit the categories. These vanity bios are one of those that are kind of weird ones. I've always wanted a "yet another 'is a cool kid' article" db tag, but since that doesn't exist, we're stuck with db-bio. =) -- Gogo Dodo 06:14, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Request for speedy article deletion?

I can understand why you would want to delete Ray Flugger. That article is pure crap. It just seems to me that he was is a very important (albeit rich) man worthy of mention. But what I don't understand is why you want Flowmaster deleted. If it sounds like "Blatant advertising" to you, then why don't you just edit it to make it sound more encyclopedic? SPEEDY DELETION?

Thank you for your welcome but I am thoroughly insulted by your actions. I find that the deletion request of the article is ridiculous and the rules that govern the deletion for it have extremely high standards for band wiki creation. This band may not be famous or have any notable releases, but they are creating a stir in their local music scene, and I think it to be detrimental to their expansion as a band to be refused a Wiki page. By having a page on Wikipedia, people who enjoy their music can easily find information they are searching for on it's history or current members. Please revoke your deletion request and leave this article alone. Also, would your extremely fast attack on the article happen to be in part due to the band's (Vaginal Destruction) name? If so then this is even more of an improper request. Also, is wikipedia supposed to be some sort of elite, internet form of The Encyclopedia Britannica , or some other famous encyclopedia? If that is true then the whole image of this website is a farce and I am disgusted by it's presence. I truly hope none of that is the case, and that this can simply be revoked. Thank you. You know what, you make sense. I'm sorry I acted harsh, I just felt insulted that spending so much time working on that article that it was not proper for wikipedia. You were trying to help me out, and thank you for that, you don't deserve my being rude to you. Maybe there should be some sort of local wikipedia. Oh well. Speedy closure of an afd

As a non-admin, I'd recommend you avoid closing deletion debates early, as well as citing WP:SNOW as you did at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rincewind. Attitudes may have changed and I may be out of date, and if I am, forgive me, but it's generally felt that non-admin closure is only really needed when there's a lengthy backlog. • The reason I mentioned running for admin is because it was a good call. I've endorsed it to that effect. Why don't you think you'd pass? I've not had a good look at your contribs, but I'd nominate you on the strength of that close. Whilst we're on the close, you should think about being a bit more expansive next time you pull one, and I hope you do. Mention that you're closing per WP:SNOW, and that you don't feel there is any point in dragging the debate out, in case it becomes fractious and divisive, I recall SNOW can be a controversial call at times, although it's been a while since I've been involved in it so I could be wrong. Template:Current fiction

I am not "spamming every movie and video game article" I can find. I am tagging recent releases with the {{current fiction}} tag and using the articles 2007 in film and 2007 in video gaming as a source. I realize that Gears of War was originally released on November 7, 2006, but the 2007 in video gaming article says the Windows version was released on November 6, 2007 — so it's a recent release. Viva Piñata was originally released on November 9, 2006, but the 2007 in video gaming article says the Windows version was released on November 6, 2007 — so it's a recent release. I don't think I own articles, an administrator decided in a recent deletion debate that the {{current fiction}} template is better. If you have an issue with the {{current fiction}} tag, you're welcome to comment on it on the template's talk page. And if you don't think it should be used in any articles, you're free to nominate it for deletion. I'll stop tagging videogame articles since you seem to be against it. Thanks for tagging that article. It's got some just plain incomprehensible writing in it -- something I hate to try to edit because if it is bad enough I can't even tell what the person was trying to say.

Anyway, it would be helpful if you would have another look and add "citation" tags where you would like more references. Part of the problem with something like this article is that the basics are dead simple and the fan-out is incredible. Everybody who writes (and who knows basically what s/he is talking about) starts with the same basics and then fans out to wherever s/he wants to go. So once you've cited Young and Huygens and a couple of others you've got the basics. But I just found one place where someone had put in a bunch of formulae. Probably they are perfectly o.k., but the guy should have cited his textbook. I managed to find another textbook and another set of formulae so it's o.k., but why didn't the writer give that info when s/he was writing? I'm betting that s/he wasn't dragging it out of memory.

If you can help me spot anything remaining that needs a citation, please just tag it. I am going over the article from top to bottom, and I guess I'm about half-way through. P0M (talk) 20:18, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't mind that you reverted my removal of the SD tag. I just don't think it is appropriate to mark these kinds of pages for speedy less than 60 seconds after created, and I know that doing that is against some policy or guideline somewhere. There is just a difference between making a page for a band, and making a page that says "Tom is the coolest person alive"; obviously the second one should immediately be tagged A7. Anyways, 10 minutes without any other edits is appropriate in my opinion to re-tag, which you did. Google Print and PD works

Google Print in fact does allow full browsing (and pdf download) of PD works, as in the case with the one I cited in that article. And M.K knows Polish language well enough to translate when he wants to. I was planning to expand this article and maybe create another one (one the civil war) itself, and update the references to specific pages in the mentioned book, instead of the current passage of several pages, but the atmosphere of this discussion made me concentrate on more friendly areas on Wikipedia. Thanks for the heads-up. I understand that listing the two pages concurrently is not against policy; my concern was that in the unlikely event that the main userpage debate resulted in a consensus of delete for the page and related materials, it could conflict with a potential keep consensus in the userbox debate or vice-versa. Like I said, I don't think this would happen, but I figured that it was best to guard against the possibility by suggesting that the userbox nomination be withdrawn for the time being and then relisted (if need be) after the main page debate closes--as an added bonus, doing so would also serve the more practical purpose of organizing the related debate in one location rather than splitting it across two items. I understand your point about the presence of both delete and keep arguments possibly nullifying any nominator withdrawal, but given my points above, I'd still like you to reconsider the reversion of my close. It's actually not a university, but just a separate small language study program - roughly 50 students, 15 sensei in about 1/4 of one floor of an office building. Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a logo. Believe me, I was disappointed when I discovered it wasn't a full-on university, and that there were no "Inter-University Center" sweatshirts to be bought. I see that you are relatively new to Wikipedia -- "it's only in the past couple of months that I've really become active." You might find it saves time for everyone if you mark which sections (or paragraphs, or sentences) you believe violate copyright, and leave the article alone for a day to see if they are corrected. Here is a link that may be useful to you, to avoid similar mistakes in the future. In states: "Blatant copyright infringements may be speedily deleted if: there is no non-infringing content in the page history worth saving. [...] After notifying the uploading editor, add {tags}. An administrator will examine the article and decide whether to delete it or not. You should not blank the page in this instance." (emphases added) In addition, see the table below. My apologies for the lateness of the reply--I was gone for most of the weekend and just got back tonight. As for your message, while I appreciate your concern I'm very familiar with the copyright policies of Wikipedia (although it never hurts to have a reminder). I marked your article for speedy deletion as a blatant copyright infringement under criteria G12, which is reserved for pages which meet the following criteria:

• The material was copied from another website or other source;
• There is no non-infringing content on either the page itself, or in the history, worth saving;
• The material was introduced at once by a single person; and
• There is no credible assertion of public domain, fair use, or a free license.

Since your article met all of these requirements, I tagged it for speedy deletion. Since I am not an administrator and can thus not delete pages myself, it was only deleted after an administrator reviewed it and agreed with my assessment.

I hope this clears things up a bit. As I mentioned on your talk page, I encourage you to create an article for this person, but you need to do it in your own words. If you are unsatisfied with my answer, you can ask the administrator who actually deleted the page--the log shows that it was James086--to restore it, but given that they agreed with my assessment (and also encouraged you to recreate the article using your own words in their deleting comment), I doubt this will be particularly helpful. If you are still unsatisfied after talking to him, you may list the page for deletion review, but please note that the deletion review process should be used solely if you believe the deletion was against policy and have attempted to solve the issue with the editor/administrator in question (since I can't undelete anything, you need to talk to the admin first). Given that this was a pretty straightforward case, it is highly unlikely that this will result in an undeletion, and I would honestly recommend that you spend your time and energy creating a new article with original text instead.

Thanks for creating an article for IUC. As I am currently attending the program, and there aren't that many other people working on Japan-related topics here on Wikipedia, I was quite surprised that someone would create the article. I immediately thought, was it someone else currently attending with me, someone who is, unknown to me, an avid Wiki editor? Ah, but I see you're an alum. Well, the program is going very well - even if it's incredibly difficult at times, it's also fun, and I'm making great progress. I'm excited to be able to count myself among the alumni of such an excellent, and well-known within the Japanese language education world, program. Cheers. I figured there would be someone in the Japan project who either went there in the past or is going there now; good to see I was right, although I'm sorry to disappoint you by not being an editor in the mist (or the library, as the case may be). I'm glad you're enjoying the program, though; trust me when I say that, although they may not look like it now, what you learn from the kanji quizzes and the 待遇表現 text is worth the price of admission by itself.

Oh, and if it makes you feel any better, I'm a very recent alum (2006 graduate, so two classes ago), and I understand the urge you will feel--if you don't already--to talk about Matsumoto-sensei the instant you meet someone else who knows him. Heh, I've seen you around enough (and agreed with you enough) that I don't think it's possible to have a bad impression of you at this point. That's actually why I was kind of surprised that you were nominating users' pages so quickly, as it seemed a bit out of character. To be honest, the whole best practice of initiating discussion before deletion was only recently inserted as a formal part of the process, so if it seems like users like 12 Noon and myself are harping on that point, it's just because we're trying to increase awareness and encourage a more collaborative approach. I might actually suggest waiting a little bit longer for a response (something like a week or so) just to be on the safe side since most newbies generally don't log on and check their watchlists obsessively like we do. There's no hard and fast rule, though, so it's up to your discretion--I don't think anyone would complain about a faster deletion nomination on a really obvious or potentially harmful violation, nor would it be out of place to move a little faster if it's obvious from their contributions that they ignored your comments rather than simply didn't get them.

And I'm glad you don't feel bitten yourself. Besides, it's been a good week or so since I was last mauled by a raccoon, so I think you'd be okay even if you were. Rabies is one of those things that just kind of works itself out, right? --jonny-mt 04:28, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
