Packers
editHi Gonzo. Do you know of any stub Packers articles for people from any of the countries on this list? I'm entered in another contest :) - it ends on the 30th and I was thinking about doing a Packers article or two if there were any, if you'd have the time to review them. BeanieFan11 (talk) 02:04, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- Ted Hendricks, Tom Fears and Vai Sikahema could all be options. Happy to review! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 03:25, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- Kenneth Odumegwu too, BeanieFan11. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:46, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- As much as I like 'The Mad Stork', I think it would be too difficult to bring a Hall of Famer to GA within four days. Besides, my favorite articles to do are of guys nobody's heard of! – you think Odumegwu has the potential to be a GA? I could nominate it if so. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:17, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- BeanieFan11 I think it definitely has good potential! Here is a good source (let me know if you need access to it and I can email you the article). And I would review it quickly for you, promise! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:53, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- I do have access to it – I'll look into it later today. Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 18:49, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- Any suggestion as to how much I should expand it (pre-expansion it is currently approx. 435 words)? – I've never written a GA before on an active player. BeanieFan11 (talk) 23:10, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- My guess is his article would warrant maybe 25% more, so maybe around 600 words BeanieFan11. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 23:19, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- OK – thanks. I'll do the expansion tomorrow (27th). BeanieFan11 (talk) 02:24, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
- Tried beefing it up. Looks like its just over 600 words. Nominated for GA. BeanieFan11 (talk) 19:50, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Re [1], the source does not say it appeared to be an interception, rather that it appeared to be an incomplete ("... the tip of the football appeared to hit the ground in the process"). Flipping these results gives the entirely wrong impression. DatGuyTalkContribs 15:07, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- The source quote:
Two plays later, Rice caught a 6-yard crossing route – his only catch of the game – and lost the football as his knee touched the ground. The referee immediately ruled Rice down while the Packers defense clamored for a fumble. Just three snaps after that, the penultimate play of the game, Young nearly threw an interception looking for Stokes towards the right sideline. Packers corner Craig Newsome secured the football with his left arm but the tip of the football appeared to hit the ground in the process. The referee, once again, ruled the bang-bang play in the 49ers favor and called it an incomplete pass.
- vs
- The article text:
Shortly after the missed fumble, the referees also called a pass as incomplete that appeared to be a Packers' interception, a play which would have also effectively ended the game.
- DatGuy, what part are you isn't giving the right impression? The article says the play happened after the controversial call of no fumble by the refs. It then says that "Young nearly threw an interception" and explains that it would have been an interception if the refs hadn't made another controversial call of incomplete because they ruled the tip of the ball hit the ground. The text " the referees also called a pass as incomplete that appeared to be a Packers' interception" is an accurate summary of that text. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:51, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- My gripe is with the placement of the text and the usage of "appear". First, describing a correct decision inside a section wholly dedicated to an incorrect decision conflates the two. Second, "appear" does not intrinsically indicate something to be false, there should be surrounding clauses for it, e.g. while X appeared to occur, in reality Y; at first it appeared X, but later it turned out that Y; etc. The source saying one thing appeared to happen and the paraphrasing saying the opposite appeared to happen should raise a red flag.
