Has you notice that Shahjadpur Upazila and Shahzadpur both are same i think one article should be delete what do you think?Dr Thaane Wala (talk) 19:04, 10 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

The latter redirects to the former so people looking for the Upazila under the other title still end up at the content they are interested in. I don't see why the redirect should be deleted. Huon (talk) 19:11, 10 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Green Star Media edit

Thank you for your invaluable help and tidying up work. Could I ask your opinion on improving this and developing it from a stub. Can I use more information from the existing references? What would be a judicious number to use from the same reference? Would it be acceptable for some additional information to now be provided sourced from non-independent sources i.e. the company website? Rugbyboy2 (talk) 06:30, 12 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Rugbyboy2: You can use more information from the existing references; particularly the "publisher profile" seemed to offer quite a bit that might be useful. There is no specific maximum amount of information that should be taken from a single source; if you feel that the article becomes a re-telling of one source, it's probably too much. I would strongly advise against using non-independent sources to significantly expand the article. If there's a specific relevant detail you cannot find elsewhere - say, the name of the current CEO, or the exact founding date - so be it, but an encyclopedia article should not become the equivalent of a company's "about us" page. If no independent sources have reported on that additional information, it may not be all that significant in the first place. Huon (talk) 11:19, 14 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Huon Many thanks, I take all that on board. Rugbyboy2 (talk) 15:36, 18 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Text written by others edit

Hi, oh that was a quick chat comment. I'm not paid and the original author is a friend of mine and father of the subject in question. He submitted the text for Estonian and Esperanto pages, which were accepted. Then he asked me as a friend and native English speaker to do the same for ENG Wiki. If some irrelevant details need to be removed, that's fine. It was just the lack of proper references reason for rejection that confused me as there are indeed independent references. re User talk:Khaled Alkarzabih/sandbox edit

This guy is a serial sockpuppeteer, see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Caradoc29105. He makes fake conflict articles and sandboxes, commonly about Libya; he also claims to be Khamis Gaddafi, Khaled Kowati (a minor commander in the first civil war), some random mercenary or even just himself as a random mercenary (He claims "Charles/Carlos Lobo Vindel" as his real name; "Khaled Alkarzabih" is his latest alter-ego), when in fact he's just some dude from Florida who apparently vandalises Wikipedia in his spare time. Just a heads-up; if you see something similar again you'll know what's going on. Cheers, ansh666 18:08, 19 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Shadowbanning report edit

I have reverted your edit on Brian Niemeier because, as it states in the part you wanted to remove, it was reported. The information doesn't state whether he actually was shadowbanned, so it remains a neutral expression which does not say whether he actually was shadowbanned. I suspect only Twitter knows if he was really shadowbanned, or if shadowbanning on Twitter is an actual thing. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 18:08, 25 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Article on Aurangzeb edit

Thanks Huon. At least, can you add references 476, 478 and note 33 from the article on Hinduism to the sentence, "abandonment of the legacy of pluralism" in the lead/introduction of that article. Thanks again!-Dona-Hue (talk) 12:57, 26 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

In general, discussions of article content should be held on the respective article's talk page so they're easy to find for others who are interested in the topic. That said, the lead of an article should summarize the body, and it does for Aurangzeb. It doesn't need to repeat the body's references and, if the body is well-referenced, as our coverage of Aurangzeb's religious policies is, doesn't need additional references. Those notes and references, in particular, seem rather highly specialized for their current context; merely copy-pasting them wouldn't make much sense. Huon (talk) 22:12, 26 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Deletion attempt on File:Yaqeen Ka Safar Title Screen GIF.gif edit

I am giving you last warning if you deleted it, you will be cased by me. It's a good file and if I have created it and none of other people in history have every created such a image then it's not my fault and if you once again delayed, your edit will be reverted again. Understand it, otherwise you will be permanently blocked from editing. --International Editor Shah (talk) 09:48, 30 April 2017 (UTC) You are No.1 slan editor of Wikipedia who doesn't know the use of files but you will be never successful in Deletions. LAST WARNING --International Editor Shah (talk) 15:03, 30 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

International Editor Shah, I have no idea what you're saying here. I'm the No.1 slan editor? What does that mean? You're warning me about what? Expressing my concerns that the image you uploaded does not agree with the non-free content criteria by nominating it for a discussion through the appropriate channels? That won't work. And I won't be successful in deletions? If anything I was too lenient here; another admin deleted the image immediately. If you really intend now to bring up my conduct at a noticeboard like WP:AN/I, be my guest, but you may want to read WP:BOOMERANG first. Instead, it might help if you do not consider such incidents as personal attacks - that's not at all what I did - but as issues that need to be addressed. If you really did create the title screen of the TV series yourself, as opposed to taking it from TV or the like, you'll understand that's an extraordinary claim that needs evidence, particularly when in the same tag you said you didn't know who owns the copyright (I expect anybody involved in producing a TV series would know who owns the copyright of the resulting series, including its title screen). The issue I really felt made the image inappropriate wasn't the "source" but the fact that it's animated when it clearly doesn't need to be and a non-animated image would serve the same purpose. You have not addressed that concern at all. Huon (talk) 19:10, 30 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

It was because of that in licensing there was no any GIF made agreed image, so in licensing there was mistake own. International Editor Shah (talk) 08:00, 1 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you are saying. If you created the animated GIF but not the title screen itself, copyright still rests with the creators of the title screen. As I said above, that was not my primary concern; my primary concern was that the animation meant that we used more non-free content than necessary a violation of the non-free content criteria. If English is not your native language you may want to consider contributing to a sister project in a language you are more familiar with, such as the Urdu Wikipedia. Question edit

Hello Huon. Something odd is going on at 86.163.58.133 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) talk page There is a block from Materialscientist and an unblock request in place as well. There are also posts by you and Bbb23 but the edit history only shows edits by the IP and the bot and myself removing the PP template. The IPs first edit shows it to be one of those who resent Sro's diligence. I don't know if there is anything to be done since they are only editing their talk page. It was several weeks ago so none of you may remember the specifics but I did want to make you, Bbb23 and Materialscintist aware of the situation. Best regards. Page - Nilesh Soni edit

Hi Huon,

I am getting in touch to discuss the issues that were marked for the page nilesh soni.

Have now added secondary sources instead of the primary sources that were in the article. Can you please see if that helps solve the issues?

The page had been tagged for deletion before I made the changes.

Please suggest. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kathak.mehtaa (talkcontribs) 07:24, 16 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Kathak.mehtaa: The sources you added help; whether they suffice will be determined by the deletion discussion. You can find it at WP:Articles for deletion/Nilesh Soni; you're welcome to contribute to the discussion, but it may be worthwhile to take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#Contributing to AfD discussions first. Of course you're also welcome to further improve the article while the discussion is ongoing. It will be closed after a week. Huon (talk) 23:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

07:49:45, 17 May 2017 review of submission by 149.31.223.38 edit

Hi there,

this person this person is notable. What sources exactly do I need? Her IMDB and client list speaks volumes.

IMDb is useless as a reference for Wikipedia; it's not subject to meaningful editorial oversight and is not considered a reliable source. Having famous clients also is no evidence of being notable. You need sources such as newspapers or reputable magazines that independently report on Cuso in some detail. Huon (talk) 23:21, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Editing The Holocaust edit

Huon, thank you so much for responding. How do I keep an editor of editing my short quotation direct from Longerich text about "US" and the sentence that follows about Jews of French North Africa being counted at Wannsee. Thank you again Henia Perlman (talk) 01:26, 19 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Henia Perlman: I have fixed the US issue; the current text, already modified by others, to me seems to adequately summarize Longerich. In general, if your edits get reverted, discussing the isue on the article's talk page (see Help:Talk) should be the next step: Explain why your version is better than the current one, and when the other editor joins the discussion, try to establish a consensus - if necessary, for example because the two of you simply cannot agree, pursue dispute resolution. Huon (talk) 01:44, 19 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Huon! I am still struggling with editing. I did explain by quoting again Longerich; the other editor could have done what I did: check Longerich book, and then there is no need for consensus, because Longerich's quotation speaks for itself. I have reviewed Holocaust books to be published by Oxford and Yale Press, and I have always double checked quotations, to make sure that the book to be published had presented the correct quotation. I did see many distortions of quotations. Thanks again so much! Henia Perlman (talk) 05:38, 19 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I believe the edit was reverted because the other editor thought the full list of countries too much detail and didn't even notice the US issue; it always helps to use edit summaries to explain why you change something. Huon (talk) 13:37, 19 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Football kit edit

Hello Huon,

First of all: thanks for the fast reaction. But I still have a question. In what kind of programme is it possible to create such a football kit? And are there any rules making these kits? WikiTL (talk) 21:22, 23 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

@WikiTL: Template:Football kit#Creating and naming a new pattern has some information on how to create a new kit; I would assume it's easiest to take a mostly-empty pattern image (say white with one hoop) and modify it. Any graphics programme that can edit the relevant file type (.png or - probably better, but I'm less familiar with it - .svg) should do; I'm not familiar with what's available and can't tell what you might be familiar with. Personally I'd probably try MS-Paint or something primitive like that - all it needs is the ability to create a transparent bar at the bootom that, with a red background, gives the stripe you want. You can also try asking at WT:WikiProject Football or at the WP:Graphics Lab; people over there may be familiar with these kit images and can likely provide more specific help. Thank you very much edit

Thank you very much for your rational comment.
You are right that my two comments are hardly understandable. The comments should be included into the above section Millions is not sourced. But I had been bullied during weeks, so I have created my own section, which was wrong.
My second phrase should have meant that the notion mass human rights abuses has not been mentioned in the body of the article. I have misplaced the quotation marks and not repeated the phrase.
My third phrase answers title of the upper section Millions is not sourced. To be exact the encyclopedia quotes Pipes Russia under the Bolshevik Regime, 1919–1924, a basic book not used by the authors. Pipes says 9 million deaths, so mass human rights abuses is an euphemism. But the critics have been terrorized, vast numbers of inactive discussions archived. Xx236 (talk) 08:34, 10 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

We have a general election coming up in New Zealand, hence we can expect more bios of politicians with questionable notability. I'm asking because I don't want to go behind your back, given that you've just reviewed the page. Schwede66 16:32, 11 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

I didn't mean to review it, I just histmerged an earlier draft that had the same content into the page. If you think the subject isn't notable, do whatever you think is best; to me the quality of the references seemed rather low. Huon (talk) 16:38, 11 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Can you add links to WP:NORG and WP:ORGDEPTH to the AfD, so the editor knows clearly what the specific notability guidelines are that the article has failed to meet. Seraphim System (talk) 17:23, 26 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Seraphim System: I can (unless the deletion discussion has already been archived, in which case I could add a comment to the author's talk page instead). You're not doing so yourself because...? Huon (talk) 19:26, 26 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
Because I don't want to modify an AfD that someone else posted without discussion, and I think it is better on top so it does not seem like subjective comments from editors—I know most of us know which policies you are refering like passing mentions in WP:ORGDEPTH, but spelling it out would mostly be for the benefit of the article creator who is a new editor.
