Dishonest synopsis of U18 world championships in hockey

I understand that this is an American-dominated site, with the usual American chauvinism, but why was my revision removed while you conveniently persist in describing the US as "dominating" the tournament? That sounds subjective and biased to me. Also interesting that you downplay the absence of CHL players in the tournament for the Canadian side; my guess is that you are an American hockey "fan" who wants to engage in a sneaky rewriting of the sport's history by downplaying the hurdles the Canadian squad faces in this event. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.0.236.217 (talk) 00:16, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

I was particularly wary of the use of words such as "best" and "seized," which made the meaning of the sentence(s) less neutral. Hummerrocket (talk) 00:19, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

regardless of the veracity of her actual actions, the fact that she inspired a trending hashtag entitled "#poopingforkaitlin" which continues to resurface is indeed newsworthy and a true fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.71.179.209 (talk) 21:01, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Ok, in that case when you insert your change in the article, make sure that you cite this source. Here at Wikipedia, we rely on verifibility and reliable sources, especially for living people. Hummerrocket (talk) 21:06, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello. Thank you for the help, but I was switching out a dead link, for a live one, and you put back the dead link. How does that help? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Df2012df (talkcontribs) 00:28, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

My mistake; I wasn't aware that you were switching out a dead link. Cheers, Hummerrocket (talk) 03:31, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Of Mice and Men

Hello Hummerrocket, I want to report you about this user named Wikishreker14. He constantly keeps changing the right edits on the pages and causing an edit war. I already warned him with other user and try to discuss this on the talk page. He is also causing some minor vandalism which I think you reverted too. Can you please contact someone and block him? Cause we don't know where to contact. Thanks. --Tobi999tomas (talk) 20:05, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

@Tobi999tomas: Hello, I would recommend going to the edit warring noticeboard and following the instructions there to submit a report there for this user. Once you do that (and also provide some diffs of the edit warring), an admin may block the user. Hummerrocket (talk) 20:20, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
@Tobi999tomas: I actually filed a report on behalf of you and the other editor(s). Hopefully that will resolve the issue at hand. Hummerrocket (talk) 20:32, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
Thanks again @Hummerrocket:. I also checked his contributions history and just as I thought, this guy is a regular vandal, so he need to be handled asap.--Tobi999tomas (talk) 07:56, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

John McDonough biography

Hello, I made alterations to slave owner John McDonough's bio and it was branded as non-neutral. Isn't objectively admitting he's a slave-owner neutral? The currently existing post calls him "entrepreneur" which has a positive connotation. That entrepreneurship derives from slave exploitation, which suggests being a slave owner was a good thing as long as you donated money. Shouldn't the post not use positive associations by your non-neutral terms? Shouldn't the neutral objectivity be honest about him rather than brand him as an entrepreneur? He controlled the means of his slave's freedom and forced them to pay him for their freedom, which economically benefited him. He benefited off of his working slaves and benefited from freeing his slaves. He was: a slave exploiter. Not an entrepreneur. 19:32, 15 June 2020 (UTC)~spicymint

@Spicymint: Hello, the reason that I reverted your edits was because there was a heavy level of bias present. For example, you stated that "No amount of donations McDonough can change the fact that he exploited slaves for the wealth that he donated." This statement is purely an opinion and is in no way upholding the neutral tone that we intend to keep in this encyclopedia. Also, the lead already states that McDonogh ‎was a slave-owner, which is also repeated later in the article. Please read WP:NPOV in order to gain a full understanding of adhering a netural point-of-view on Wikipedia. Thank you. Hummerrocket (talk) 19:38, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

"No amount of donations McDonough can change the fact that he exploited slaves for the wealth the he donated." Is factual. The fact that he exploited slaves is not something that can be changed. It's a historical fact that he exploited slaves. That's not an opinion as you just stated. That's a literal fact. He exploited slaves for wealth. Calling him an entrepreneur is an opinion. Calling him an entrepreneur for this is non-neutral. Spicymint (talk) 20:46, 15 June 2020 (UTC)spicymint

Hello Hummerrocket,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Tom Arie

Hi I recently edited the page on my father (Tom Arie) to remove some factual mistakes and to add links to recent obituaries. I do not have a web citation for the changes, e.g. my father's middle name, for example, was Harry, not Henry, as the page is currently showing. I do not see how I can provide a web citation for an obituary, except by linking to that page, but the links I added have been removed as well. I will re-apply these changes today. Please can you let these changes stand? I think I should be able to correct my father's name, and provide a link to his obituaries online, I am a bit confused why you have reversed these changes and hope this won't happen again! Thank you Sam Arie — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.9.156.244 (talk) 10:48, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Hello. Here on Wikipedia, we require verifiability in the articles, especially for a living person's biography. Since Tom Arie is your father, you actually have less of a right to edit that article, since that would promote a conflict of interest. Please see WP:COI and WP:BLPSOURCE for more information. Since you have a conflict of interest, you are strongly discouraged from editing that article, and should instead go to its talk page and state which changes specifically you like made (with reliable sources). Thanks, Hummerrocket (talk) 00:41, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 2

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page AMC. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

The Months of African Cinema Contest Continues in November!

Greetings,

Thank you very much for participating in the Months of African Cinema global contest/edit-a-thon, and thank you for your contributions so far.

It is already the middle of the contest and a lot have been achieved already! We have been able to get over 1,500 articles created in over fifteen (15) languages! This would not have been possible without your support and we want to thank you. If you have not yet listed your name as a participant in the contest page please do so.

Please make sure to list the articles you have created or improved in the article achievements' section of the contest page, so that they can be easily tracked. To be able to claim prizes, please also ensure to list your articles on the users by articles page. We would be awarding prizes to different categories of winners:

  • Overall winner
    • 1st - $500
    • 2nd - $200
    • 3rd - $100
  • Diversity winner - $100
  • Gender-gap filler - $100
  • Language Winners - up to $100*

We are very excited about what has been achieved so far, but your contributions are still needed to further exceed all expectations! Let’s create more articles before the end of this contest, which is this November!!!

Thank you once again for being part of this global event! --Jamie Tubers (talk) 10:30, 06 November 2020 (UTC)

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:49, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
