Random Note

Hi, Genericusername57! I saw you thanked me for an edit and me being the bored guy I am I just happened to check what kind of stuff you edit and noticed quite a few edits you did to Towey's page. Just wanted to say I've met him a couple of times through my mom (there was once a time eons ago when they worked together in DC). I don't know what your connection is but felt like just mentioning. ~ Pbritti (talk) 04:24, 9 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi Pbritti. Thank you again for your work on integralism. It's interesting that your mother worked with Jim Towey. He used to be a fairly prominent figure in my corner of rural southwest Florida. I've never actually met him in person, though I once snuck into a political rally to take this unfortunately low-quality photo. Cheers, gnu57 14:59, 9 November 2020 (UTC)

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:59, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Contested G5s

Hi, Genericusername57. On what grounds do you disagree with the G5 speedy deletion requests I made at articles including One Hundred Years of Homosexuality? My reasoning for the nominations was that the creator and only substantial contributor was blocked at the time for sockpuppetry, and editing using a yet-to-be-discovered sockpuppet account. Many of the articles are listed at Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/FreeKnowledgeCreator and need serious investigation for copyright violation if they are to be kept, because the user repeatedly introduced copyrighted material without attribution; however, this places the burden on volunteers wasting a lot of time and effort in order to rescue content written by a person here to push an evangelical religious POV on homosexuality as unnatural and promote the pseudoscience of conversion therapy. Let me know what your reasons for removal were. Thanks! — Bilorv (talk) 15:46, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Bilorv. David Halperin is a queer theorist. Neither his book nor our article on it serves to reinforce an evangelical worldview. It would be a serious mistake to assume that Freeknowledgecreator was motivated by religious homophobia. (I could email you to elaborate on this if you like--there are various privacy considerations involved.) I was under the impression that FKC had already removed the close paraphrasing from his book summaries (see e.g. [1][2]). If there are still copyvio concerns outstanding I would be willing to help address them. Cheers, gnu57 20:17, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply; I see the point but I do not agree that we should let this stand given that the person behind the article was banned from Wikipedia at the time they wrote it. I've read some of the user's older comments and I see they were here to push a POV, and they caused a lot of issues in conversion therapy and homosexuality-related areas for the POV of their contributions. The issue at One Hundred Years of Homosexuality could be the choice that the writer made in saying in Wikipedia's voice that the book received "mixed" reception or to the length, number or reliability of the many sources included which criticise the book. In other cases it may be the opposite or there may be no issue, but I do not believe the onus should be on us to argue each case in turn for the many dozens of articles which the user created. Perhaps you've seen the discussion I started at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Potential copyright issues in articles created by a fringe conversion therapist sock, which you're welcome to comment at. The CCI remains open at Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/FreeKnowledgeCreator and I believe is mostly unresolved. Emailing to elaborate would be welcome if the information you have is evidenced by on-wiki behaviour by any of the person's accounts or anything they linked to or alluded to on-wiki. — Bilorv (talk) 20:39, 13 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello

Hi GNU

I know your watchful eye and edit is in good faith. My review of the article saw appropriate sources and very helpful edits by User:EnPassant and User:Starship.paint. They made much needed edits to an article full of fluff and undue content. I made a few grammar and wording edits. But the concerns that were behind the hoax label are from content that no longer exists on the page. As for your concern that I am a sock puppet I am not. But the article no longer contains material that is fluffy or undue as the citations listed check out in the news articles and back up what is said in the article. How this edit makes me a sock is unclear. If you would like to discuss this I invite your discussion but I respectfully ask that you remove your claim that I am a sock, especially if I am willing to have a chat with you about this. Happy new year. - SHARPER IMAGE (talk) 06:48, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

Sockpuppet investigation

An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Praxidicae, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

Five or fewer DYKs?

Just checking, outside the DYK review - are you at five or fewer DYKs? If, so, no hold-up for a QPQ. David notMD (talk) 17:15, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

In the Reception section, consider adding that the same publisher - John Wiley & Sons, Inc. - published a children's book by Royston and his daughter on the same concept of 'lucky science'

Lucky Science: Accidental Discoveries From Gravity to Velcro, with Experiments Paperback by Royston M. Roberts (Author), Jeanie Roberts (Author) Publisher : Wiley; 1st edition (October 14, 1994) Language : English Paperback : 128 pages ISBN-10 : 0471009547 ISBN-13 : 978-0471009542 Reading age : 10 - 15 years

Just a suggestion David notMD (talk) 22:39, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

  • Added, thank you. gnu57 06:01, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
