Too much citations edit
Hello,
please read WP:OVERCITE, it is advisable to cite 1 or 2 reliable sources that can adequately verify a claim, rather a citation clutter. Too much citations make articles look untidy, and sometimes difficult to edit. Regards.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 21:54, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, Jamie Tubers, Thanks for your contributions to Lagos, however you still need to clarify the information you added regarding the city's fast growth. A city's growth is always an estimated statistic and never a constant data. It is a well known fact that Lagos is one of the fastest gowing cities in the world, which I stated with citations but comparing the growing pace of Lagos with just one city (Abuja) in an article is not encyclopedic. Besides, the information you obtained is from a blog. The information I added is more accurate because it is verifiable from multiple third-party reliable published sources. - First of all, you called Euromonitor, an intelligence organization, a blog? Secondly, the Euromonitor citation gives a recent statistics; and a recent statistics is the acceptable citation over a dated one....Wikipedia does not deliberately use outdated information; some of the books you cited were like 2000s, some 1990s. Thirdly, Euromonitor gives a specific ranking of the growth of Lagos, and not an arbitary statement; Wikipedia prefers more statistically backed sources, rather than a general claim by an author in a book. I advise that you reduce the citations to few recent reliable sources, with specific ranking; that's the only kind of citation that can displace the current one. Lastly, the sentence you are correcting is long standing in the article, which will require a consensus to be altered...especially when the alteration turns controversial. So let's get a consensus, before further reverting...Personally, I think both sentence can exist in the article (that is if your reference can be improved), you can write Lagos as the 2nd fastest growing city on the continent and also as one of the fastest in the world - They are two different things, which can be separately weaved into the lead with the presence of up to date reliable citation. Do you think the city Lagos ranks next to shouldn't be present in the sentence? Why? Also note that your recent reversion deleted another content, which I didn't think you wished to delete, so check revisions very well before reverting next time in the future. - First and foremost, I actually went through your edit history before reverting. The additional changes you made besides the removal of my citations were just changes to the sequential arrangement of some images and words so, I technically didn't remove your additional edits besides the citation from Euromonitor. Secondly, your assertion that the information from Euromonitor is more recent is incorrect. Irrespective of whether the single data you obtained from Euromonitor's website is valid or not, the fact remains that the information was released around 2010 which is about the same date of publication of most of the multiple sources I added. Besides, the several published sources I added are more relevant to the Lagos article. Your assertion that Abuja Is the fastest growing city in Africa needs multiple citations for verification. Global ratings or rankings are never static but change annually and they also vary from one organisation to the other so it's best to give an estimate. If you must include any information about Abuja's fast growth on Wikipedia then it should be stated on the Abuja or Nigeria article with multiple reliable citations instead of just one for verification. Since you've returned to the previous pattern, which we consider disruptive, I am now considering a block of your account. But will first give you a chance to back away from the dispute, and agree to stop adding these categories. You will need to include an explicit quote on the talk page of the article from whatever source you are using that proves their ethnicity. For example, Mosun Filani is marked as Yoruba in her infobox but no source is indicated for that information. You should revert your own edit about this until such time as you have *explicit confirmation*. You stated "Her ethnicity has been stated in many of the sources" but if so, it should be easy for you to designate which one and copy the data to the talk page. His father just took a Yoruban name. I don't give a shit what some random website you found tells you, and I also don't give a shit that you give a shit.
