How to use Wiki

How do i edit and create new pages on Wikipedia without them being deleted or me being banned? i want to help SpecialHelper234 (talk) 14:27, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I've put a Welcome message on your talk page. Have a look at the links in it, in particular "How to edit a page" and "How to create your first article". Happy editing! —Bruce1ee 15:20, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

You deleted my suggested addition of an article Steve Spurgin for lack of reliable third party references. If I had known of reliable 3d party stuff, I'd've gone ahead and written the article. I added this guy (who is referenced in seven other Wiki articles) here in hopes that someone would look for and find reliable information to compose an article. How else should I suggest this?Fitzaubrey (talk) 00:40, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

The onus is on the nominator to provide sources to demonstrate the subject's notability, and assist potential article creators. Read the instructions at the top of the page. —Bruce1ee 07:17, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

FAC Closure

Hi, why did you do this [1]? Graham Beards (talk) 09:04, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't realise you were archiving – your edit summary said "added one". —Bruce1ee 09:06, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
No problem, sorry for the confusing edit summary. Best wishes. Graham Beards (talk) 09:09, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Reverted edit

I just want to know why you reverted my edit in "October 10" Thanks for your answer Santillago (talk) 12:14, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I reverted your edit here because, the release of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is not a notable enough event for this list (see Wikipedia:Days of the year), and you removed three entries under Births: 1857 – Yusuf Izzettin Efendi; 1959 – Arif Peçenek; and 1994 – Bae Suzy. I don't know if the deletions were intentional, but they had to be reinstated. Feel free to try again, but check your edits before saving by clicking the "Show changes" and "Show preview" buttons. —Bruce1ee 12:43, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Henry Cow edit

Hi Bruce, I came upon the Henry Cow information a couple of weeks ago. I used to know the band, and am still friends with Dave Attwooll the old drummer. I changed the spelling of his name from Dave Atwood to the correct spelling, and unfortunately you changed it back. No worries, however I will be happy to have Dave get in touch if necessary if that'd help ? Many thanks Bruce Best Tim

I'd love to update the article with the correct spelling of Dave's name, but it needs to be verifiable. I can't find any sources that say his name is spelt "Attwooll" – do you perhaps have any? The Henry Cow article uses this source, and there are several others that also spell his name "Atwood". —Bruce1ee 05:46, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Usman Khan: why reverted?

May I ask why you reverted me here? You say "no sources" but most of the article requests lack sources. I work mainly on Commons these days, and don't have time to write an article myself, but sources are abundant: Usman Khan has albums on major labels including Columbia, a quick Google search should turn up plenty. - Jmabel | Talk 15:25, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

create a reference to an external page wikipedia

Greetings, I would like to know how to create a reference to an external page wikipedia, I was doing the tutorial but I could not answer this question. Could you help me? I do not know English, I use the Google translator, excuse meMegatela (talk) 12:52, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

You can place them in the "External links" section of the article (see Wikipedia:External links). If you are citing a source for text in the article, have a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources. I don't know which tutorial you are using, but why don't you use the one in the Wikipedia of your language. —Bruce1ee 13:08, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

One of our first tasks is to write the job description of the executive director position, and we are asking for input from the Wikimedia community. Please take a few minutes and complete this survey to help us better understand community and staff expectations for the Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director.

Thank you, The Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Search Steering Committee via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:48, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your reversion at July 14

Bruce1ee, thanks for reverting the edit attributed to me (User:Neonorange) at this article, made on July 16, that rolled back to revision 729828111 by User:198.223.239.133. Given three choices, operator error, software error, and hardware error, I must go with door number one. But I have no idea how I could have created the problem. Thank you for assuming good faith. — {{u|Neonorange]] (Phil) 01:28, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

(PS: I noticed, from your user page, your interest in science fiction. I read C. J. Cherryh's Downbelow Station when it was first published—it's still my favorite of her novels. Neil Stephenson's Seven Eves and William Gibson's The Peripheral are my favorite, recent science fiction novels. — Neonorange (Phil) 01:28, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

No problem – clearly it was an honest mistake. There was a time some years back when the only sf I read was Cherryh, and I've read many of her books. I've read Stephenson's Cryptonomicon and Anathem, but not Seveneves. Maybe I'll give it a try. Thanks. —Bruce1ee 05:06, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requested articles/music/Performers, bands and songwriters

Jacob Collier - is this source reliable enough ;) https://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/jul/03/jacob-collier-review-ronnie-scotts-jazz-new-messiah

I think there is also a NYT article, or ask Herbie Hancock, David Foster, Quincy Jones

His debut album peaked on #1 itunes jazz in more than 20 countries after a few hours.

So if he gets a Grammy next year and you have no,article - itbshould be embarrasing for wikipedia ;) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eifelochse (talkcontribs) 19:41, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

There already is an artice for Jacob Collier. —Bruce1ee 06:00, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, I have to be blind, perhaps I mistyped in the search field. Have a nice day!

I take it you're referring to this edit. I can find nothing linking Wales to Wiccapedia, and besides your edit breaks the {{CURRENT*}} templates. —Bruce1ee 14:29, 21 September 2016 (UTC)

Keith Moon (oops)

Sorry about that, I mixed up the edit summaries and reverted the wrong person. Feel free to serve seafood. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:25, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

No problem :), and no need for the seafood! —Bruce1ee 12:57, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Nita Rossi

Hi the main source is [readysteadygirls.eu/#/nita-rossi/4523569554 this one] which this Wikipedia somehow does regard as a spamming site and therefore doesn't get accepted. I'm a newbie to get that kind of restrictions lifted. It cannot even get passed [[2]] which is silly as it should get proppsed to be lifted. 83.85.143.141 (talk) 22:45, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

I've reinstated your request here with a few other references I found. I also managed to include the readysteadygirls.eu link. —Bruce1ee 07:49, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you. Now let's wait if it still gets blocked. In case it does I have spotted other links which readysteadygirls did use itself too. I find it rather frustrating I cannot upload an article being unregistered, but I got to obey the rules. However, it is strange that I am obliged to forward external links while the article I am busy on gathering external information about its subject, never had any but records released quoted on Discogs, YouTube etc. Perhaps that's because that needed information is printed material from the 70s never quoted before on the internet. In fact one could forward imaginary printed content as a source, and get away with it, if one is using and hiding behind a registered account. 83.85.143.141 (talk) 17:58, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
But why don't you register – then you'll be able to create articles yourself (see Wikipedia:Tutorial/Registration). Why external links are required is to demonstrate the subject's notability, and assist potential article creators. —Bruce1ee 22:43, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
I did register in the past on the Dutch Wikipedia but it didn't prevent me from being attacked fiercely on a personal level. When I started discussing the ways of conduct I ran into serious trouble as I got blamed, being the victim. Lately the same thing occurred when I started a very difficult discussion about articles on persons defending an organization defending a very controversial point of view regarding a very sensible subject against a legal ban - an opinion which they may have changed radically after our Dutch High Court put a 100% negative verdict to the case, broadening its range far beyond the focus it had at first. Unfortunately at the Dutch Wikipedia people supporting a positive view on that same sensible subject are categorized, which complicated the subject, as it raises why people are categorized on this subject, and why the supporters of that certain opinion aren't. Very sick comments were made. Virtually I got shot being the messenger. I may not have been smart the way I started the discussion, but on the Dutch Wikipedia people tend to be very biased on social subjects. A lot of broadminded people therefore left as contributors to that Wikipedia.
I made no secret I had subsequently used sock puppets in the past: one switch I did was permitted, another one I had to create because my mail address became unaccessible. A fourth one I created to demonstrate how to edit Wikipedia, and offered it to someone who didn't continue editing - I didn't use it anymore. Because of all troubles in the past I am refusing to let myself be judged to get permission to create a new identity, even though I cannot access even one of my former ones.
And above that, on one Dutch Wikipedia you are treated like a child. A misspelling or a typo error are very common mistakes one makes when in a hurry or when one gets interrupted. It always is regarded as vandalism. I'm more relaxed and permissive, accepting people make mistakes.
One other unpleasant experience is that I'm on a daily basis being drawn into discussion about reconstructing articles. As I like to wikify bad written and documented articles, renewing the content and linking it to other articles, and putting it into a context so it fits into a broader frame, I far too often meet opposition of people thinking they own the article. Above that, I tend to operate in an innovative way if a subject is not getting a proper treatment, by creating an article on the broader context and adding the smaller subject to it. But the endless discussions and rows are wearing me out. 83.85.143.141 (talk) 05:43, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
