OK sorry to go on, but all you had to do is quickly reply last time and I would have known!!. Its just at WP Films the most active of us try so hard to add infoboxes to all articles and to improve the minor stubs which are undeveloped . If you could take an extra minute on each one with an infobox and cinema template it would save a lot of work later and gives it a firm foundation to work on. Yes I'm not surprised you were scared off with the tough image licenses. Go to www.google.com click on images and search for the title of the film. Save it and copy the url address of the page you got the image from. Then on wikipedia click upload and select either screenshot of poster or dvd cover. Then just copy the fair use rationale template and just add the correct source and title the image is being used in. Have a go ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ ^"Talk"? 11:40, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

If you see here you can copy and paste the full rationale to every poster of the film you upload and just add the correct title three times and the source you got the image from. I am pleased you are working on these films as these countries are all notable film producers and at the moment aside from Italy and France the coverage is very poor. When I;m done on my curret work the countries I aim to work the most on are Poland, Hungary and Czechoslovakia, Israel, Greece, Sweden/Denmark and Russia. There are truckloads of missing films from these countries probably over 95% are missing it would be superb if you could develop this area. I also created the list of films for these countries which are also pretty underdeveloped. Well its the same with the infoboxes. I hate that buff colur. It is yellow and not pleasant looking. OK I reverted the silver -it looked a little blocky I agree but the off yellow was not good either. Happy with this? The red for the US is a bit too attention-grabbing in contrast to the shades of green used for the other countries - and it is these other countries that are of interest here. I'm sorry for not replying to you earlier, but I did not want to modify the map right away: because the nominations announcement was imminent, I would in any case have had to update the map again in order to include the countries which were nominated for the first time ever. Therefore, I preferred to do all the necessary modifications at the same time. I have now updated the map by including these countries AND by taking into account the suggestions you made. Nice. Perhaps a dark grey (darker than the grey used for all other countries) or black might be even better for the USA? The main contrast you want to convey in the image is between the nominees and the winners, so while the USA needs to be in a separate colour to all other countries for this image, the USA still contrasts a little too strongly from all other colours. - 52 Pickup ^(deal) 18:34, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article List of countries by formation dates, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. Case Law

Hi, BomBom. To follow up, I'm still not convinced we need three separate categories. At the moment, Category:LGBT case law has three articles and the two subcats, Category:United States gay rights cases (21 articles) and Category:LGBT-related European Court of Human Rights cases (with 5). Even if every case mentioned in List of LGBT-related ECHR cases gets put in the cat, that's only 15 articles. My feeling is that all of the articles should be combined into one cat - Category:LGBT case law or perhaps Category:LGBT case law worldwide. Thoughts? I've watchlisted your page, so reply here? Hi, SatyrTN. Regarding the issue of subcategories, I think it is preferable to have clearly defined subcategories (albeit with less articles) inside a broader category rather than have dozens of articles grouped in a single broad category. Better-defined subcategories are much more helpful and much more useful. It is possible to divide the category either geographically or thematically. Currently, the category is divided along geographical lines: i.e. there's a subcategory for the US, one for Europe, etc... However, it is also possible to opt for a thematic division: i.e. having subcategories about LGBT cases dealing with sodomy laws, LGBT cases dealing with same-sex marriage, LGBT cases dealing with age of consent, etc... I don't know which approach would be better. In any case, either approach would be better than having a broad unidivided category. Thoughts? 12:45, 2 April 2008 (UTC)BomBom (talk)

Another two cats?

Just curious about the difference between Category:Homosexuality in the United Kingdom and Category:LGBT culture in the United Kingdom. They have just about the same entries - can we merge them? -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 19:37, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

The problem is that you can't have a category dealing with "LGBT law" or one dealing with "LGBT history" placed as a subcategory under "LGBT culture". History and law are in no way derivative of culture. LGBT law, history, culture, people, etc... all fall under the broad category of "Homosexuality". Thoughts? I totally don't understand your point. "Homosexuality in the UK" doesn't say anything about history, law, or culture. And it's non-inclusive by leaving out Transgender.

Maybe I see now - You're looking to put the "LGBT culture", "LGBT history", "lgbt law" into a UK-specific super-cat.

The US version has the super-cat as "Category:LGBT culture in the United States", but I'm not even sure that's necessary. But for the sake of standardizing, can we use that as the super-cat for the UK? Our history and law relating to our culture are, too, part of our culture, so it makes sense to me. More? Re:FLC

That's odd, I went off this and when I noticed there was a list on the same subject, I decided to bring it up to par. I was under the impression that 1) short films/documentaries aren't feature-length films in the sense the Academy treats it 2) dubbed films don't count as a foreign language film 3) performances by foreign language actors in English films don't count since the film is primarily English. Hmm...perhaps a compromise? The list as you envision it appears to have a much larger scope that this one currently has. Is there a significant difference between the Academy definition of a foreign language film (per that link) and yours that would allow two lists to be formed? Possible FT

Hey, I was looking for possible FTs, and thought one could be made around Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. List of Academy Award winners and nominees for Best Foreign Language Film and List of Academy Award-winning foreign language films are FLs, and if the main Academy Award page goes to GA status (which it might, as I see you've been working on it), then we would have a topic. However, I'm a bit uncertain whether List of Academy Award-winning foreign language films will be accepted as part of the topic, and was wondering whether we could split the country list in the winners and nominees list into its own list. That could be taken to FL status, and then we would have a fully rounded topic. Thoughts? sephiroth bcr ^(converse) 04:42, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Eh, "Foreign language films at the Academy Awards" likely would have far too large a scope, and it's difficult to even define a scope for it. It implies that we should include a comprehensive listing of every foreign language film ever at the Academy Awards, which would probably mean every submission list, etc. The title of the topic would simply be "Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film". If we can nail this one, then I'll look to see what we can do in terms of foreign language films (finding a more specific scope for instance). As for the country chart, I'm pretty sure it can be promoted. At worst, it's rejected at FLC and we simply merge it back to the winners and nominees article. As for the naming scheme, couldn't we simply change it to "List of submissions to the 80th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film"? It makes more sense then - submissions to the specific ceremony for the Best Foreign Language Film category, and we don't have to drastically change the names. As for the ability to verify the lists, it's one of the main reasons I haven't sent like 20 lists to FLC (considering that the older submission lists are like 15-20 items, which is a hell of a lot less work than the 40-50 items of the present day lists). Also, it's near-impossible to find general references for the country submission lists. Adtran gave me a reference for List of Japanese submissions for Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and there already was a general reference on List of Czech submissions for Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but I haven't found one for any of the other ones. Unless the Academy publishes the lists that Adtran is getting, then there's no way any of them can be sent to FLC (unless you get an alternative source). For lists short enough that I can put individual references (say List of Macedonian submissions for Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film or List of Indonesian submissions for Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film), they're too short to pass at FLC (which has a relative minimum of 10 items). At FLC, you need concrete references. Merging submission lists

I've noticed that we have several country submission lists with barely any content (1-2 items). IMO, they probably should be merged somewhere (perhaps to the relevant cinema page), as they're hardly substantial, and FLC has a general rule that lists need at least ten items to acquire FL status (exceptions exist, but not for traditional lists with table formats). As such, I propose we merge all country submission lists with three or fewer items. We certainly can recreate the lists if they are populated in the future (although that will be years in the future). List of Bangladeshi submissions for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (four submissions) looks like a nice minimum figure for these lists. Eh...I guess it could work, but then you're obligated to make the same types of lists for other geographic areas, and I'm not sure how that would work (you would have a {{main}} to all the separate lists, but the majority of these lists would consist of nothing but these links — therefore they would have no tables, and really just be a link farm — and wouldn't be suitable. I'm open to ideas on the matter though). IMO, just redirect the lists to the relevant cinema page, and then recreate them when they have enough items. I've started a discussion on the lists here. Place your input there on the matter. And kudos on finding the German source, but unfortunately, blogs are not acceptable sources per WP:RS, and it won't be acceptable at WP:FLC. Foreign Language Oscar Lists

You, you are right...I e-mailed the Academy directly in Summer of 2007 and I have kept a copy of the e-mail, which I can provide to you in any format you like. I did not know how to "verify" this e-mail as a source. How shall I post it or send it to you?

It was always my intention to post the older lists at some point (I do not have access to them at the moment). I am the originator of all the Foreign Oscar Submission pages but an administrator has essentially taken over. The administrator deleted a lot of information I had included, and frankly I think I have lost interest. I fully 100% understand now that IMDB links and blog links are taboo on wikipedia, and that is fine by me. But the administrator in question deleted a lot of information that I still feel was relevant and interesting, and he changed a lot of things resulting in a lot of mistakes. The administrator even deleted certain countries' submissions, changed languages, etc. which made the pages less accurate. As you can see on my talk page, I tried very hard to come up with a compromise and offered to help, but the administrator was quite rude. In the last week, s/he erased the bulk of my work on individual country submission pages without explaining why (I had done this only on the Eastern European countries. See Belarus, Bosnia, Tajikistan etc.) I would not have been opposed to some judicious editing, but the wholesale deletion of my hard work without any stated reason hurt.

I have restored some of my information, but i know full well he will delete it again, despite wikipedia's policy to "Try to avoid deleting things as a matter of principle. When you amend and edit, it is remarkable how you might see something useful in what you might be about to remove. Almost everyone - including you - has something useful to say. Deletion upsets people and makes them feel they have wasted their time; at the very least leave some indication of your rationale in an edit summary, if not in an entry on a Talk page or in a message to a user or users you think might be perturbed by your action." But since the person is an administrator, I simply do not have the energy to fight back.

So, I did not seek to get the new information because I am afraid that my work will be deleted again. However, I will be able to assist you with any information you ask for!

List of German submissions

Oh no, I just noticed while checking backlinks that you made already a list in your sandbox. Anyway, I just substantially expanded the List of German submissions for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and if I find the time I will add a bit more. That is the Europa Europa "controversy" should be included and a bit about how films are selected. This weblink has some good information on the selection procedure and the history of German submissions (it's sort of the official webpage, as it is by organization responsible for the selection procedure). I guess we had the same idea at the same time. I expanded the List of German submissions for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but I am not sure whether it all complies with the Manual of Style. I found a few additional interesting pages on www.german-films.de, including a complete list of all submissions from 1956 to 2007, thus the list can do with only one reference, that is the German Films reference. I also added a short section about nominations of German films in other categories, but not sure whether that is appropriate for this specific article which is after all about the Best Foreign Language film. Great work! Although I am not very familiar with the criterias for a featured list it looks like a worthy candidate to me. Ideally one should also include some information on the selection procedure in East Germany, but I am afraid that it will be very difficult to find any information on that on the net or in print. I know it's not directly related to the article, but the navbox is using the wrong flag in one instance. The Canadian flag next to William Lyon Mackenzie King, Image:Canadian_Red_Ensign.svg, is the one used from 1957 to 1965. It should be Image:Flag of Canada 1921.svg, used between 1921 and 1957 as this event occurred in 1936.
