Your 19:20, 10 June 2013 edit to Regina, Saskatchewan edit

The pronunciation /r[invalid input: 'ɨ']ˈnə/ is not "unknown" as you put it. It is used by many people from outside of Regina. Is the policy on Wikipedia that we should only show the pronunciation of natives of a place? If that's the case, then fair enough. Accentman (talk) 01:18, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

It's not only the pronunciation of "natives of [that] place." It is used by all Canadians and by non-Anglophone visitors from elsewhere the moment they hear the correct one. It is the English pronunciation; of course it's not the RC pronunciation of Latin music and liturgy, but it was certainly that of Princess Louise when she renamed Buffalo Bones for her mother in 1882, there already being too many Victorias in the British Empire for there to be another. I don't think that anyone even here in Australia would commit that error, and would welcome being corrected if they did. Masalai (talk) 05:01, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think you greatly overestimate people's ability to pronounce foreign placenames. Accentman (talk) 09:03, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Stating the correct pronunciation is quite sufficient. Setting out incorrect pronunciations is beyond superfluous. Masalai (talk) 12:08, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Beth Jacob Synagogue Regina Saskatchewan.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Beth Jacob Synagogue Regina Saskatchewan.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sohambanerjee1998 06:15, 27 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

Hi :) Thanks very much for your recent uploads of self-taken pictures in Port Moresby - it's something we've wanted to have on here for a long time! I'm from Australia and have never been to PNG but did a fair bit of work on the articles. If there's any suburbs you have photos of that we don't have an article for, feel free to just create a short article and let me know so the formatting, linkage etc can be standardised. Once again thanks! :) Orderinchaos 10:47, 27 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:General Motors factory, Regina, 1928.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:General Motors factory, Regina, 1928.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Better source request for some of your uploads edit

Thanks for your uploads to Wikipedia. There is an issue with some of them, specifically:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the images because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the images, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image files themselves. Please update the image descriptions with URLs that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 03:07, 16 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Syrian Orthodox Church in Bombay 1.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Syrian Orthodox Church in Bombay 1.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Speedy deletion nomination of File:John Kenneth Galbraith, The Scotch.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:John Kenneth Galbraith, The Scotch.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Definitely free, is it not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Masalai (talkcontribs) 12:41, 22 April 2015‎
The onus is on you to prove that it is. Your original argument—that it is free simply because it is a court record—has no legal basis whatsoever. —Psychonaut (talk) 07:32, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:John Kemmeth Galbraith. The Scotch.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:John Kemmeth Galbraith. The Scotch.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Saskatchewan edit

Hi, just logged in and noticed your message on my page about Grenfell. I hardly use Wikipedia anymore (except to read), just don't have the time. I also noticed some of your edits about the Syrian Orthodox Church. Was your family from Saskatchewan, originally from the Middle East? I've lived in Estevan for a couple years, near the border of North Dakota and now live in Regina. Have been doing a bit of research geneology wise about families who came to Sask in the late 1800s and 1900s. --Eternalsleeper (talk) 01:00, 11 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

I was born in Regina and much of my school was from there; indeed I was an English lecturer at U of R. But I'm from a farm between Qu'Appelle and the Fort. Masalai (talk) 14:54, 5 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Carnichael Presbyterian Church taken from Regina, the first 100 Years.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Carnichael Presbyterian Church taken from Regina, the first 100 Years.jpg.

Minor edits edit

Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Scotch, as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. Mutt Lunker (talk) 09:23, 24 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Descent of the Holy Ghost.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Descent of the Holy Ghost.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. 1974 Views of Regina Reversed? Taken from slides? edit

Greetings.

I was looking at the cool picture of downtown Regina which is described as being taken from the Legislative Building. I noticed that the car is driving on the left hand side of the street. And this made me surmise the picture may be reversed. Was it originally a slide? Looking for the scene in Google Maps, I think it may have been taken from the steps of the Conexus Arts Centre.

Check out this Google Maps view: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Wascana+Lake/@50.4269298,-104.5968345,208a,35y,334.87h,44.97t/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x531ea07de5a5e371:0x424d656f2e6ca72a!8m2!3d50.4269348!4d-104.5915389

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wascana_Centre#/media/File:Wascana_Lake_from_the_Legislative_building_in_the_70s.jpg

In looking at the Google Maps aerials I think that both the "Regina Campus from Wascana Lake before it became University of Regina in June 1974" and "Saskatchewan Centre of the Arts as first appeared" images are also reversed.

Then-and-now images from the exact spot would be a neat comparison. 1974 vs. 2019.

Slides can be tricky.
