Classical cellists

Sorry, yes - I fully intended to undo the changes I made, but got distracted. (I have now done so.)

The problem, however, is that the intervening category of 'Category:Classical cellists by nationality' is poor data structuring if you just want to see a category list of classical cellists, regardless of nationality, without having to go through each of dozens of nationalities separately - a manually created list is not a good solution, as it's redundant data and only likely to fall out of sync with the cellist articles. The fact that a cellist may happen to be Russian or Argentinian is rather incidental, and their cellist-nationality could be deduced from the fact they're a) a cellist (sub-category:classical) and b) a specific nationality.

Is there any way that an A-Z list of cellists can be automatically generated within Wikipedia from the classical cellist articles that exist?

Poets Corner

I finally got round to making a start on Poets’ Corner. If you remember, I asked about it back in January here, and you said you might be interested. Would you be able to take a look at what I've done and advise on what else should be included, and whether I'm focusing on the right sort of things? I'm aiming to have details of the funerals for each burial, which feels right, if a bit ambitious. For the memorials, ideally there would be a description and/or picture, the date it was unveiled/erected, and the name of the designer/sculptor/architect. There are a few pictures of those on the list missing, but nearly all the entries have pictures (though many of the pictures need the paperwork tidying up for them). The other things I thought of included: (a) photos of the memorials and stone slabs (but last time I went, Westminster Abbey didn't allow photography in that area); (b) partial or full quotes of the epitaphs and other inscriptions on the memorial slabs and memorials. Oh, I'm also trying to work out how to get the names to sort alphabetically by surname, and how to get "circa" years to sort correctly. Finally, it is currently three lists, but should those be combined or is keeping them as three separate lists sensible (I also need to find out whether the lists are complete)? If you do have any advice or thoughts, would you be able to put them on the talk page (I can add a diff to what I've said here), and leave me a note on my talk page pointing me there? Thanks. Thanks for the tip and offer to get the booklet. I had been planning a trip there myself, and it was good to know about that booklet. I went today and it was unfortunately a bit dark in places (the lighting is not great - by this I mean to even see some of the memorials, as photography is forbidden), so I may go back in the daylight at some point. I did manage to buy three books and booklets on Poets Corner from the Abbey Shop, including the one you suggested. It is a fabulous little booklet (do get a copy yourself, it is well worth the £5). There is also a very nice section in a book from 1914 which is available on the web. I'll post more about all these sources on the article talk page, as the booklet is the most comprehensive list, but there are other sources that allow Wikipedia's list article to be more than just a regurgitation of what the booklet author did. Rating Thames articles

As one of only two people to have written a River Thames FA (cough), you might be interested in commenting on how we tidy up the current mess here. The input of someone working on the west half of the river would probably be useful; I have no real sense of what is and isn't considered significant in Oxfordshire and beyond, where the river obviously exists but isn't the same focal-point-of-a-thousand-years-of-history that it is in London and the Estuary towns. – iridescent 20:47, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Assistance required for user in clear violation of Wikipedia Neutral point of view policy

Hi there. Need assistance with distruptive/openly biased user Gwillhickers whose admittance of national bias and disproportionate national imagery on the Alexander Graham Bell article is a breach of WP:NPOV. Had to point out to him that Bell invented the telephone as a British citizen (which is dealt with in the article intro). Inspite of having advocated fair/balanced/proportional representation that meets neutrality standards (ie.equal national commemorative images from Scotland, US and Canada), the user has continued to be disruptive and breach fundamental NPOV wikipedia policy. Furthermore commemorative image placement is in the legacy/honors section (of which there is one from the US), so placing disproportionate images with no relevance to the text in other sections is also breach of WP:MOS. I did get an edit conflict, but I intentionally copied my version of the text over the present text at the time because it would have taken awhile to copy the notice one by one into each section again (and because the result would have effectively been the same). The duplication for the Louis Mountbatten occurred, I'm certain, because I just put the {{RFPP}} in on the last line without realizing you had placed one there just seconds before me. The situation is still as bad as I thought, though. Anglesey churches

Look forward to them. I took some photos of Llangristiolus on the way past the other day and hope to get the closed church at Llanidan at an open day on Sat. I'm surprised you asked me for comments (although honoured of course), because I consider your church articles to be much better than mine. Part of my excuse is that the sources available to me seem to be either out of date, or limited in detail. The "big" book on Cheshire churches was published in 1947, and it only deals with the "top" churches; Pevsner has not been updated since 1971, and it's the old rather slim version (a new one is promised soon). I admire your mission to write articles on all the listed churches in Anglesey and create a FL (I think all the listed churches in Cheshire have some sort of article now). I like the layout of your sections and may change some Cheshire ones to this if and when I have good-enough material.

Re infoboxes; I see you use a "limited" one. Some people love them, some hate them. After a lot of thought, I personally use the full infobox: I know that this duplicates information. It's thinking about the sort of people who will be looking at the articles. Some will want to read the full text (and can skip the infobox); others may want just a glance to get a bit of info without struggling through all the text; and some, having seen what is in the box, may be tempted to read more. But it's all personal of course.

I very much like the info provided by Cadw in the links to your articles. How do you get to it? I've tried all ways and being relatively techno-illiterate have failed to get there. Is there a search page somewhere? I suspect so but cannot find it. The Cadw info is much better than any I have found provided by English Heritage. In the past I have had to resort to sending e-mails to Cadw for info; frustrating for them and me. Incidentally I have strayed into "your" territory once again in List of Commissioners' churches in Wales with St Seiriol, Holyhead. As you will see from that page, the "Grade" column is largely empty and I want to fill it.

Thanks for your kind words. (1) With the infobox, I've used a full infobox unless I have additional images I want to use, in which case I've cut down the infobox to the bare essentials to avoid squashing the text between images and infobox. As in most cases the material is limited, I've not been able to pad the text out much to get the bottom of the article much below the bottom of the infobox. I'll have another look at this, though, and see how good/bad it looks. I too have mixed feelings about them, but perhaps a consistent style between the articles would be best. (2) The Cadw website is very unfriendly. As far as I can tell, you can't search by text such as "St Mary's Church". You can, however, select the town / village into which the map should zoom, and set the display so that it only shows you listed buildings. You then click on a dot and hope for the best, as far as I can tell... Fortunately, Cadw had already sent me the listed building specs for the churches, with the reference numbers, and so I've been able to avoid the cumbersome map search process by finding one church and then changing the reference number at the end of the url each time! Thanks for the invite to take a look at St Cristiolus's Church, Llangristiolus. I'm not going to get into the peer review as I'm going to be away for most of this week (Glastonbury Festival) but will put a few comments here if that is OK?

• The very long infobox means that the two other pictures pinch the text - perhaps a case for a gallery (but some GA reviewers might argue)
• The reputed date in the infobox might need a ref - but I see it is referenced in history
• Chancel is wikilinked in history but not on the 1st use in the lead
• The sentence "the combined benefice of Llanfihangel Ysgeifiog (Gaerwen) with Llangristiolus with Llanffinan with Llangaffo, which is part of the deanery of Malltraeth, within the archdeaconry of Bangor in the Diocese of Bangor." is probably correct but seems complex to me
• Both Perpendicular style and Decorated style redirect to English Gothic architecture which may be confusing to the reader
• First World War could be wikilinked

Thanks for your comments, Rod. It's a choice between various unattractive options when I've got extra photos: a cut-down infobox, which makes for inconsistency between the articles; text sandwiched between photos and infobox, which doesn't look greater on smaller monitors though is bearable on larger ones; a gallery, which would probably fall foul of WP:IG; or a simple link to a Commons category, which would probably be ignored! Sadly, the best option (of expanding the text massively to get it much longer than the infobox) is denied to me by the lack of greater detail in the sources. I've made a few further tweaks based on some of the rest of your comments. I had noticed that both styles link to the same article, but I thought that was better than leaving one of them unlinked, which might also cause puzzlement. Some comments from me finally as well (sorry for the delay in getting back to you). I have taken the liberty of poking about and looking at the list; the format looks fine (I believe it's the same as the one Peter uses), and you're doing well with images! I would advise naming the first column Dedication instead of Name, as you are abbreviating the full name of the church ("St Beuno's Church" etc.) to its dedication only. Full-sentence notes would probably be preferred at a FLC as well. On individual articles, you look to have extracted the maximum possible from your sources, by and large; I would recommend searching as widely as possible for books, even those that seem only indirectly related. Down here, somebody wrote a very useful book called the "West Sussex Village Book", with anecdotes etc. about almost every village; invariably they included some church info as well. Maybe something similar might exist for Anglesey? Another useful source which Wales lacks is the Victoria County History of England—vital for Sussex church articles, with their lengthy descriptions of histories and fittings. Has anything similar ever been undertaken for Welsh counties? The layout of individual church articles looks good, and I concur with Peter's and Rod's comments. One small tweak I would suggest: "Architecture and fittings" may be better than "...and contents": more appropriate word for internal things like fonts. I'll keep my eye on it all! (outdent) Just a minor comment on the list of Anglesey churches. At one of my FLCs I was persuaded to dispense with a separate column for Refs. They don't really merit a column, and so I have changed "my" lists by moving them to the end of the notes (where they normally appear anyway for text). It also gets rid of some white space.--Peter I. Thanks for the suggestion, Peter, I've done away with it. I started with them in the "Grade" column, for some reason, then made a new column instead of taking the obvious step of moving them to the notes column. I've taken up Hassocks's suggestions about "fittings" rather than "contents", and "Dedication" rather than "Name"; and I'll keep hunting for books with useful info. I've bitten the bullet and ordered the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales volume on Anglesey (1968). Come to think of it, Peter, that should have information about the now-demolished St Seiriol, Holyhead (one of your Commissioner churches) which won't be covered in my plans otherwise...
