Troop 34 edit

Troop 34 edit

Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages. The notices and comments are needed to establish community consensus about the status of an article, and removing them is considered vandalism. If you oppose the deletion of an article, you may comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. -- Dalbury(Talk) 00:16, 22 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Dude, go easy on the spite edit

I see you nominated a Troop 26 article for deletion, because your troops article was deleted. While I do not support the way you phrased yor request for deletion, I would like you to consider a few things.

For any group, whether it be gaming-clan, political party, charity, or scout troop, has to have achieved some level of significance in the wider community to be accepted as a productive article on Wikipedia. Unfortunately, neither your troop, the troop you nominated for deletion, or any of the troops I've belonged to, fulfil this criteria.

Now, I'd love to write up Brush Park Rover Crew, but I've learned from bashing around on here for a few months that such an article would not last very long (My crew's claim to fame is entering a Rover motorsport competition in another state, and when you live in a 'widespread' country like Australia, that is a fair achievement).

The best way to know when it is time for your troop to have an article will be when someone else writes it up. Not another scout from your troop, not a member of your local community, but somebody you will likely never meet goes "Holy shit, those guys from Troop 34 in Detroit are one impressive mob! They've done [Great Thing One] and [Great Thing Two] for this nation, and I think it should be acknowledged. Now, to do some research..." That's the point in history when Troop 34 will be 'deserving' (entirely the wrong word to use, but I can't think of one better) of an article on Wikipedia, after they've propelled themselves into the greater limelight.

I hope that the deletion of your troop's article has not put you off contributing to Wikipedia. You seem like the kind of kid who'd be a benefit to the community, and I'd hate to see you go.

If you want to chat more, or just yell at me, come and buzz me on my talk page.

From the Coordinators

Welcome to the inaugural issue of the Military history WikiProject's newsletter! We hope that this new format will help members—especially those who may be unable to keep up with some of the rapid developments that tend to occur—find new groups and programs within the project that they may wish to participate in.

Please consider this inital issue to be a prototype; as always, any comments and suggestions are quite welcome, and will help us improve the newsletter in the coming months.

Image copyright problem with Image:021211-03-DBC-entrybridge2.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:021211-03-DBC-entrybridge2.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 02:17, 31 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Welchlij.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Welchlij.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 17:42, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
