Request for advice edit

I am concerned with the situation on Old time radio and related pages. You have been an uninvolved contributor with more experience in Wiki than I have. I am left with a feeling that there are some factions here who are following their own agendas rather than Wiki's. In the case of Dnyhagen he is not helping towards any positive agreed solution while working extremely hard on the page that is for his website (the page on Wiki nows comes second on my google search which makes me consider the rationale for it). Into this throw OldRadio who wants his website linked and Wikiotr whose comments suggest a (bad) history with Dnyhagen to say the least.

There are already rather too many external links on the page (in my mind & I've removed some) and I can see that, in trying to compromise, we may end up with a page of links rather than a quality article.

While not as involved as some editors it looks to me as though this may require some outside assessment by a broader body of Wikipedians to try and draw it to a conclusion as soon as possible and allow people to use time more productively. I hope you do not mind me contacting you but I am not sufficiently experienced to know the best way to settle this in a lasting and positive way (& no I have NO interest in any old time radio type sites!). Thanks & regards --Nigel (Talk) 12:51, 24 September 2006 (UTC) And as a PS - don't envy you the one above - I got the sharp edge of a tongue sometime ago on that!

Georgia categories edit

Hi, I notice you speedy deleted Category:Georgia and Category:Government of Georgia as empty cats, under CSD C1. These two categories were useful despite being intentionally empty, as they were disambiguation categories. They served two purposes - firstly as disambiguation for users who know about categories and type the undisambiguated category into the search box, and secondly to catch mis-categorisation by editors who don't realise they should be categorising articles using the disambiguated categories (i.e. Category:Georgia (U.S. state) and Category:Georgia (country), or the equivalents for the government cat.) Could you undelete these categories, since CSD c1 shouldn't apply to useful but intentionally empty categories. Thanks, AJR | Talk 23:53, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

stopped bot edit

Hi Eagle 101. I stopped your Gnome (Bot), but after re-reading my comment I was concerned about my tone. I think running a bot must be a pretty thankless job, as you often only hear from people that don't like what it's doing! It had edited a template that contained a red-cat, and caused some minor damage. I've restored the template and created the cat to avoid future problems. It's no big deal, but I was wondering if there has been discussion about editing templates, or if this was just a one-off because the template is still being developed (not often that a template would be left with a red-cat in it)? Cheers.--Bookandcoffee 16:25, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

correct there are few Templates that have red cats this is the first Ive seen and Ive been doing the samething. Betacommand (talkcontribsBot)WP:BAG16:29, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

User:JEREMYBB edit

Hi, I saw that you posted a message on User:JEREMYBB's talk page saying that he has been temporarily blocked when I in fact indefinitely blocked him. Do you think my decision was a bit hasty? I indefinitely blocked him because he was just vandalizing. --Nishkid64 00:53, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Guidance on deletion of image from Southern Expressionism edit

Hi ! I am a newbie to Wikipedia, and have created several articles so far that have passed muster in other areas (primarily Civil War and the American South). I note that you deleted an image I uploaded to the Southern Expressionism article under Speedy Deletion Criteria 3. I have permission from the artist who created the image, which is what I listed in the drop down form, but apparently that is not an acceptable copyright. So, I am reloading the image under what I think is the appropriate copyright. But if it's wrong, tell me how I can fix it. I will be adding additional images from other artists, all of whom have given the ok, so I would really like to know the proper copyright required. Thanks ! User:Mpleahy 07:10, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

From what I am reading here, [1], wikipedia does not want images that are not lisensed released to be free and avialable to all, wikipedia does not want. I will do somemore investigation for you tommarrow. I am tired and am going to bed. I am sorry. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 06:12, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
The issue here is that just saying you have permission is not enough proof, and also if the picture isn't released under GFDL explicitly by the creator then it can't be used on wikipedia. Fair use doesn't apply here. In order for the picture to be legal for us, if would need to have a leter from the creator stating that the picture is released under gfdl and can be used for any purpose included with the upload. Until, the deletion is correct. pschemp | talk 13:33, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm confused edit

On the subject of old time radio - I've placed a link to our group - www.otterprojectonline.info several times and every time it is deleted. I don't understand why.

We have valuable information concerning old time radio. We have the internets largest database of otr logs which is updated weekly. We have many articles by leading members of the otr community as well as series synopisis and and the internets second largest collection of pdf files of otr scripts.

Can you give me some understanding as to why our link is deleted and commercial otr sites are permitted to 'advertise' on wikipedia, just because they have a few links to otr sources?

Jim BeshiresOTRR 16:50, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

mmm... you have 3 edits, one to here and one to the Old-time radio article, and one to a IP. So I don't see how you placed the link several times. Also it is bad practice to add a link to your own site. But aside from that, I would suggest reading WP:SPAM, and WP:RS. Thanks.

Oh, I'm spamming and a commercial site can post an entire article promoting their site where they plainly sell old time radio, and it's OK for them? Different members of our group have placed a link at least 20 times and it was reported to us that this commercial site was deleting not only our links, but every link placed by any old time radio group. What's fair about that?OTRR —The preceding unsigned comment was added by OTRR (talkcontribs) 00:54, October 3, 2006 (UTC) yes I know you put your username, but I would also like to have the date

Please read WP:SPAM If someone is spamming wikipedia, please tell me as I have no tolorance for spam. I will do the same thing as what has been done with OTR. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 18:52, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

IPAT edit

Hi, I created an article yesterday, IPAT, to explain what IPAT is. I created it because I came looking for what it is at Wikipedia, my first choice in encyclopedic reference matters, but it was not here. So I looked elsewhere to find out what IPAT is within the lesson plan writing context that I originally found it in. After I found out what it is I put a page about it on Wikipedia to help myself and others who may come looking for it here in future. Eagle 101 deleted the IPAT article without leaving a reason. It seems like a helpful appropriate Wikipedia article to me. So I have recreated it. Eagle, please refer this to a third party for action if you still feel it should be deleted. Cheers, Roger Chrisman 21:00, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Refered to 3rd party, should be deleted on basis of WP:CSD#A1 amongst other reasons. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 21:06, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

United one heart foundation edit

Hi Eagle 101.

I helped a user set up the article United one heart foundation which you deleted under CSD A7. I don't remember that article too well, but at the time I thought it was borderline notable, enough to keep it in anyway. Would you mind undeleting it and moving it to my user-space? Don't worry, I won't recreate it (unless I find good reason for it, and then I'd immediatly take it to AFD and notify you, since you obviously disagreed), but I want to give the user his peace of mind. He's a newbie and I don't want to turn him away from wikipedia, I'd just like to see the article so that I can rationalize it for the guy and keep him from recreating it.

Who knows, maybe I can work on it enough to make it a Keep? However, as I said, I have no intention of overruling you.

Thanks! Oskar 22:56, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Done, look at User:Oskar Sigvardsson/United one heart foundation. Feel free to re-create if it passes criteria. and Cheers!!! —— Eagle (ask me for help) 23:10, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

J&P edit

I would like to raise with you the issue of you recent deletion of my article on [J&P]. I summarize my argument below:

J&P is a household name in the Middle East having build most of the infrastructure in several countries, information which I started outlining in my article. For a country the size of Cyprus, it has had an impact similar, if not greater, to what Nokia has had for Finland. Or Royal Dutch Shell for Holland. To put this in perspective for you, the figure of 14,000 employees translates to roughly 5% of the total employed population. It has a turnover of more than £1 billion. That’s greater than 10% of the GDP of Cyprus. If companies such as Crest Nicholson, McCarthy & Stone and Crosby Homes some of which are miniscule in comparison (definitely in real terms, more so in relative terms) are listed in Wikipedia I don’t see why larger companies that have had a more significant global impact (albeit in other regions of the world) should not be featured. One could interpret this as a double standards policy favoring companies such as those I site above, on the grounds that they based in more influential countries.

Please note this was not an attempt to advertise J&P as I have no affiliations to this company whatsoever and if fact I morally agree that wikipedia should not be used as a platform for company advertising. The information I included was very similar to what's posted on the construction companies I site above. In fact I went a step further and used the infobox template to present this.

Furthermore one could take offence to your description of the article as spam. As you might notice from my other articles so far, I put quite a lot of effort to source independent references (one of which I included in the article) on the figures stated and the company’s international ranking.

Would you like me to move this article to your userspace. I deleted as spam, but it could have also been deleted under CSD G4. G4 is used when an article that was deleted is reposted agian. You have created this article twice on the same day. I would trust you to know when to move out of your userspace, (as in when it is a more fully developed article that won't get tagged). Would you like me to undelte and move to your userspace? —— Eagle (ask me for help) 23:16, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. I am not sure what userpsace is, if you think it is appropriate go ahead and move it. I had re-posted this article as I was under the impression that my work was never saved (I was working on it in “preview mode” and thought I had not saved it prior to logging off last night). In fact I was kicking myself as I had to do all the typing again. I had made this mistake before.
What I’d prefer however, is your justification for deleting the article. Please take a quick look at the articles on Crest Nicholson and McCarthy & Stone. To me they seem no different as to the content. Is it the fact that I presented the same info within an infobox template rather than as a narrative? Or is it that they are British?
StephP 00:51, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Nah, I am probably in the wrong, I was working on WP:CSD and have deleted over 200 articles today. I probably made a mistake between the delete becuase repost, and the delete becuase spam. This is my error, I will undelete the page for you. I will also put a little work into it to improve it a bit. Cheers!—— Eagle (ask me for help) 02:19, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I honestly don't understand why my uploaded image: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=delete&page=Image:Palm_Zire_31.jpg was deleted. I thought I put it as the owner of the image gave me permission for wikipedia projects, which he/she did do. I can semt you a copy of the e-mail if you want. Joh777nny 15:08, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Did you click through to this link, that I provided in my deletion summery? If there is something in that section that you don't understand, please let me know. If the copyright holder is willing to release into the public domain, or the like, then please do upload under the correct image lisence tags. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 12:50, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I still don't understand. I think that the copyright owner gave me permission to use it on the public domain, (heres a link to the e-mail http://lan.serverxeon.com/files/e-mail.txt ), but I don't really know which image license to use. Joh777nny 20:50, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
We can't have images for Wikipedia use only, but we can have images released under GFDL, PD or CC. Basically any license listed as free at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags will do. Make sure that the owner of the image acknowledges that. Since Wikpedia is GFDL'ed licensed and that others can mirror it our images have to be available for everyone's use and not just Wikipedia only. Hope that explains the problem. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 21:04, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Wissotzky Tea edit

Could you please tell me when this article was deleted and why you removed the red link from List of Israeli companies? Thanks. --Shuki 21:11, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

the deletion summery at the deletion log says the following : 14:44, October 8, 2006 Eagle 101 (Talk | contribs | block) deleted "Wissotzky Tea" (CSD G11- Spam is not allowed on wikipedia... please contribute in a more productive way thank you. - content was: '{{db-spam}}Wissotzky Tea is a private Israeli company which manufactures and distributes tea. If you can re-create as a encyclopediatic article, please do so. I hope that helps. Also please read CSD A7, which may be relevent. Also check to make sure that this article meets WP:CORP or it may be liable to a AFD—— Eagle (ask me for help) 21:25, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
I am willing to undelete, if you feel I may have deleted in error. I was doing CSD at the time. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 21:27, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I was the creator of this article and I did not think it was spam (I have no relationship to this company other than a consumer of their products). I would have hoped this would have gone the AfD route instead. Can it be un-deleted and put up for article for deletion instead. --YUL89YYZ 11:23, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Just recreate the article, (if you can write it in such a way that nobody will speedy tag it). it is not a big deal. If you really want the AfD, I can do that, but much simpler just to re-make (provided that the article really is not spam). —— Eagle (ask me for help) 12:53, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Ok, I'll get it from the cache. I really don't see how this "Wissotzky Tea is a private Israeli company which manufactures and distributes tea. Founded in Moscow in 1849 by Klonimus Wolf Wissotzky, the company employs 300 people, and moved to Israel following World War II." is spam. Google comes back with "21,100" articles with "Wissotzky Tea. Any idea to make it different before I add it back? --YUL89YYZ 13:38, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
I would make sure to follow WP:CITE and WP:RS. If it is cited and sourced, and shows a WP:NPOV view of the company, it should be fine. Read over WP:SPAM, and make sure to be very careful with adding external links, try to make them sources instead. Adamcmacdonald edit

I don't think this deletion Isogolem suggested was particularly fair or appropriate, given Wikipedia's mission. Playerep is a volunteer site that's non-advertising, non-commercial based to help encourage community based playing for online games. It's wholly unique in its approach and technology. I find it very discourageing and disturbing that every reference to it has gone. I'm not sure what people thought it was competing against or why every reference to it in Wikipedia had to be erased.Adamcmacdonald 20:11, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Please read WP:SPAM, and if you have questions let me know. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 00:00, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Johnny Powers edit

Why did you delete the Johnny Powers article? Johnny Powers was a very famous figure in Chicago politics. 75.3.3.245 19:22, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Here is the Exact content :Johnny Powers (1852-1930) of Chicago, born in Kilkenny, Ireland was a Democratic Chicago alderman from 1888 to 1927. There were a few categories and {{stub}} tags, but that was the actual text in the article. As you see, it does nothing to show why he is important. Was he a famous aldermen, did he do any policy ect that set him apart? I will undelete if you are willing to do some research to show that he is important. Also this article is uncited, so I can't even tell if he was actually an alderman or not. Feel free to recreate or ask me to undelete, if you can show why he is important. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 22:11, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Serving as a ward boss for 39 years is very notable. 75.3.3.245 23:18, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Did he do anything special while he was "ward boss" ? —— Eagle (ask me for help) 23:19, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

39 years as alderman is notable. If the page contained more information about his life, it would not be deleted. It was deleted not because it did not contain why he is notable, it did contain why he is notable, it was deleted because it did not have a lot of personal information on him. Many pages of politicans on Wikipedia just contain information of them, such as where they are from, where they went to school, they don't all say what it is they have done. If people need to do something extraordinary notable to have a wikipedia page, then you there would not be a page on every current member of Congress. 75.3.3.245 04:07, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Forgetting other articles, If I undelete, would you be willing to expand to the point where it won't be tagged agian? I am willing to undelete, but on condition that you are willing to expand the article. Cheers! —— Eagle (ask me for help) 03:18, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

...Upon My Wicked Son edit

Just letting you know, I've removed the PROD tag from ...Upon My Wicked Son as in my opinion the album is notable as the first solo album by musician Andy Prieboy (notable enough for WP:MUSIC), and the album which included the hit song "Tomorrow Wendy". --Canley 12:11, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Inquiries edit

In the article on Christopher Columbus, you deleted a section concerning modern critism of Columbus. Why? Please reply on my talk page. Randomfrenchie 21:08, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

I removed that section becuase the critisism is in the rest of the article, so I saw no need for an individual 'section' on that when wikipedia has that spread through-out the article. I was working on that article as part of WP:SPOTLIGHT. This is a collaboration of multiple editors who are working to improve articles. Feel free to join us and ask your question on IRC (detials at WP:SPOTLIGHT). Cheers! —— Eagle (ask me for help) 23:25, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Mediation policy question edit

Your opinion regarding whether editing to an article should continue during the mediation process would be appreciated here since there doesn't seem to be a relevant policy. I've also asked two other seasoned mediators for their opinion. Thanks. Antonrojo 22:10, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

www.pmemory.com edit

Hey Eagle. Thank you for offering your help I guess I need it. You said that I cannot make any personal comments, but it is clear to me that Dan just stuck on his personal opinion. I don’t see any legitimate discussion from his site. I am a last year student in Latvian University and I am making my diploma work right now and it is very deeply involved with the memory and memory mechanisms. I have spent tons of time looking for the legitimate information in the Internet and library and the only source I have found is www.pmemory.com I am using the GMS Manual right now to finish my diploma work. And I just don’t understand why because of the people like Dan other people have to use old material about this subject. I haven’t seen any other material explains in details and on the cells lever how memory works. You should see that it is impossible to proof something to person who has a very limited understanding of the discussed subject.

I would appreciate you help, Thanks Alex dubasAlex_Dubas

Is there an alternate site that has this experiment. Science is peer reivew. It ought to be in another journal. If it is not, then it is Original Research. As original research, we can't take it or the link. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 00:52, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
I have no idea and to be honest I am not going to even look for it. I have better things to do. It is not even about the experiment. It’s about information that people cannot find in wikipedia. For example Mnemonics. The article is about mnemonics but I don’t see history of mnemonics. I don’t see mechanisms of mnemonics. I don’t see why mnemonics works. I don’t see which mnemonic methods can work and why. I don’t even see legitimate examples. And this is what we need! This is what I was looking for and it is available in the free eBook. So what is wrong to place a link to the free eBook? It is amazingly hard to find legitimate information about this subject in the internet. Link like that will make it easier and will supplement wikipedia’s article. Alex dubasAlex_Dubas
Wikipedia has use for infomation that is cited, but we are not a collection of bare links. Also look formy comment on Talk:Mnemonic#pmemory.com linkspam. Thanks.—— Eagle (ask me for help) 11:10, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

CSD R3 edit

Hey, I see you've been deleting the articles tagged for CSD R3 that have quotes around the titles. I'm not sure I agree with deleting them; redirects are cheap, and using quotes around a title is incredibly common. I had this problem just yesterday with another brand-new user doing the same kind speedy deletion tagging. (Which is itself weird.) It's not worth restoring them, but in case the user doesn't stop tagging these articles, I can edit out the db tags to keep the rds. Thanks! -- Merope 19:27, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Sure. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 19:29, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

deletion of BBQ TOur edit

NOTE: Page in question is Bbq tour, the

HI, It is fairly poor form to delete an article before i have posted the reasons for its continued existence. Is there any way that you can undelete the article and let me finish it before you decide whether to delete it?

Mr Caribou —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mr Caribou (talkcontribs) 00:56, October 19, 2006 (UTC)

I will undelete if you can give me a good reason to do so. Why don't you state your reasons for its continued existence right here. I am a pretty fair admin. Pretend the article exists, and simply state your case.

I deleted per the article not stating its importance. Though there was a prior deletion, approx 30 minutes prior to mine. Please give me your reasons for keeping the page. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 02:08, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Barnstars edit

Hey, it's me, Luigifan. You know, the one who made the Sonic: The Fated Hour page. (And this time, I've found Ryan Bloom!) However, this is totally unrelated. I just wanted to ask, what are those "barnstar" things, and how do you get them? Please reply! --Luigifan 01:27, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Basically by other editors finding you did good work for one reason or another. If you stay around long enough you may get one... I got my first after 6 months! I think I am the exception though, I have seen them given out far sooner then that. The awards can be given out by anybody to anybody. We have a page with these barnstars, here. —— Eagle (ask me for help) 02:12, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

WP:RFA/Cynical edit

Thank you for contributing to my RFA. Unfortunately it failed (final tally 26/17/3). As a result of the concerns raised in my RFA, I intend to undergo coaching, get involved in the welcoming committee and try to further improve the quality of my contributions to AFD and RFA. All the best. Cynical 14:58, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
