Reverting edit

Eagle, I notice that you reverted a change that I made to Jedi Vampire Lauwe Chhon's user page. I inadvertantly added a welcome notice to his user page instead of the right place, his talk page and hence I removed it. You quickly revert my change (putting back the welcome message to the wrong place, the user page). You can easily see from the history that I put in the welcome msg and removed it once I realised it went to the wrong spot. Could you please look a bit more carefully before reverting changes in future. Thanks. novacatz 03:11, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Quick note edit

Can you ensure that when you leave a message for someone it is left on thier talk page not their user page? If for no other reason than if you leave it on their talk page they'll see it immediately or when they nect come online. Also it helps if you sign your messages like this: ~~~~ -- Francs2000   01:09, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Thank you edit

Thank you

Thank you for fixing the vandalism to my user pages. Much appreciated. -- Francs2000   13:52, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

The best way to spot vandalism to hang out at recent changes and to look at what people are putting into articles. You can also watch pages that get vandalised a lot, and you will also find some links on my user page for example.jpg, example.ogg and link title, and these lead to a page where you can see pages that often need reverting.
As for becoming an admin, wait around for a bit (the average is about 3 months), keep on editing and fighting vandals, and someone will nominate you. -- Francs2000   00:36, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Saw your note on Francs2000's page: check out our very own Wikipedian brand CryptoDerk's Vandal Fighter for what you're looking for. We also have the Counter Vandalism Unit as well. --HappyCamper 01:12, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Comment below should be directed to Mistress Selina Kyle (Α⇔Ω ¦ ⇒✉) 22:36, 31 December 2005 (UTC)and not to me.
You accuse Kelly for not following process, but you are not helping wikipedia by recreating lots of templates with the balck boxes just to make a point. You should use dispute resolution processes instead. I deleted all your new templates for they now fall into CSD. -- ( drini's page ) 22:49, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress/Intro edit

I've no idea, to be honest. I haven't kept up with admin-related things for a while, and even less so since desysopping. Hazarding a guess, I'd say probably that particular page is only there for "historical" reasons, but you could always ask the user themselves. Rob Church Talk 00:27, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

The Relative Strength of Various forces. edit

In answer to your question, I suppose it all depends on your definition of strength, doesn't it? It is gravity that drives fusion, is it not? Is there not a much larger energy yield from fusion than from fission? The nuclear strong forces lose all influence outside the individual nuclei, unless released in a catastrophic fashion, but even then nature makes little use of that force. Nature builds stars and steers entire galaxies with gravity. So how can we say that gravity is the weakest force? The reach of gravity is immense and it can can crush matter into nothingness. The power of the nucleus is puny by comparison.

Respectfully,

Iron filings, paperclips and magnets. edit

Here again, it is a matter of perspective. Were I to conduct such an experiment here on earth, the magnet would pull such objects "away" from the earth, but then they would still be riding on the surface of the earth and would still be swinging around the sun. Both of those latter affects brought to us by the courtesy of gravity.

Gravity has a vastly broader reach and it touches everything, not just somethings. My view then, is that gravity is the single most powerful force in the universe. This does not mean that we will not discover something even more powerful in the future, but if we do, I'll give you long odds that it is even subtler than gravity.

It is a very Zen-like condition.

alerting admins edit

To alert admins as quickly as possible, post at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Surefire way. Won't take long, either. You could also come on at IRC at freenode.net at #Wikipedia and inform someone there. Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 04:07, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Do you have an IRC client? Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 04:13, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, that is a tad too much of trouble for just reverting vandalism, but programs such as Gaim or mIRC are applicable. Then depending on the program, you log onto the server freenode.net, and join #Wikipedia. Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 04:36, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Yes, in fact, we have a page called Wikipedia:IRC. There's also a web client here, so you an access it without a need for an external IRC client. Oh, I deleted Wwegsb for being blatant nonsense and non-notable. Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 04:49, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Good job on the Coffee service article! The last time i viewed it, it was more like an advert (hence the copyedit tag put onto it)... but after your edits it seems better now.

stub sorting edit

Hi! Good to see you doing a bit of stub sorting. You could help a little further with one or two of them... over 100 countries now have their own separate geo-stub templates, so (for instance) Indonesian islands or Polish towns can be marked with indonesia-geo-stub or poland-geo-stub. It just saves a little work in sorting them a bit further later. keep up the good work :) Grutness...wha? 00:42, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

hi again - sorry it's taken a while to reply (computer crash :/. Simply using geo-stub is a help... if you'd like to sort them a little further, though, I'd suggest one of three things... 1) use the list at WP:WSS/ST, which shows all the places with their own geo-stubs; 2) simply try the country names using preview (if something's in Ethiopia, say, try Ethiopia-geo-stub. If it doesn't work, just use geo-stub); 3) concentrate on sorting stubs other than geography ones. Seriously - the last suggestion isn't intended as an insult - a lot of stub sorters simply work in one area they have more knowledge of - I don't touch a lot of the science related stubs, because I don't know that much about it. If you feel uncomfortable with knowing whether Mali is a country or where Romania is, then no-one's going to object if you avoid geo-stubs! Grutness...wha? 07:40, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Change to Arrondissement of Bar-sur-Aube edit

Hi Eagle, I've just noticed your change to the Arrondissement of Bar-sur-Aube page. I'm in the process of updating all arrondissement pages, and while I'm mainly focussing on the canton page links, I'm happy to also make any changes to the ordering and naming of categories and stubs. Are you changing these to a standard layout? Just let me know, adn I'll be happy to assist. Kiwipete 23:44, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm fairly new to wikipedia, so haven't investigated categories and stubs much. I was simply ensuring that what categories and stubs were present were in a consistent order. I'll continue what I'm doing and leave you to continue with what you're doing as well. Regards, Kiwipete 00:09, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Book stub sorting and Novels project edit

Hi thanks for having a look at the books stub catagories. I left a note about this on the category talk page category talk:Book stubs.

While you appear to have some interest we are relaunching the Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels and I was wondering if you would be interested to get envolved. We are still at the early stages and there is plenty of scope to influence things and lend a hand with setting up of standards and tools for Novel article writers. And also to tune into writing good articles as well. Well anyway you would be most welcome. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 10:09, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for your response, mostly we need fresh ideas and enthusiasm. However stub sorting and recategorising is always useful. I have done a bit of this myself, but there is always room for more hands. Also you could consider signing up on the project page Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels and also adding {{User WikiProject Novels}} on you own page. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 08:39, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

Just noticed your signup - please feel very welcome and have a look round - there is still plenty of work to do particular areas are in stub sorting, recategorising and of course working on as many novel articles as you can manage. Welcome :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 16:16, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Saw your suggestion - "infoboxincomplete" was on my to do list. I'll have a go now. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 16:56, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Should be done now - let me know if you have any problems with it - more ideas etc. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 16:56, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi again, saw your "Infoboxincomplete" etc. comment, had been thinking similar things myself, I will give this a bit more thought. The problem is copying good ideas from other projects, and putting them together, you can get a bit of a "mish mash". Not too much time to work it though at present but remind me if I don't get back to it, I value your thoughts though, good point. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 18:26, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
Noticed that the Infobox needed category existed but was not referenced on the project page, that is now fixed. Also added a Incomplete one and referenced that. Very consious of needing to think more fully anbout the imprecations of your observation, and I appreciate the offer of help. Normally the best way of finding out how to do something is to see how someone else has solved the same problem. Which is what I do. so wander round some articles, categories, templates and project pages, and trawl for ideas. As we are growing beyond the first 3 we had a week or so ago, it will I suppose be wise to do a bit more talking before implementing changes to existing project structure. Any way keep the ideas comming. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 18:47, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

album stub sorting edit

I'm not sure about pop stubs... I've sorted some of them into rock, personally. I don't feel knowledgable enough in the area though, so I was waiting until someone with a more firm opinion came along (eg. possibly from Wikipedia:WikiProject Music. --Interiot 06:29, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Slight Bug found in Wiki Project Novel edit

Not quite sure where you mean to one link that might confuse is that on the catgery pages to the infoboxneeded and infoboxincomp items which point to where the Infobox Book documentation can be found and that is right as it is on the talk page. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 09:37, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

genre explecitly stated in the info box edit

I agree except that as we share the infobox use with many others - and also particularly with the WikiProject Books, we will need to get concensus on this. Purhaps you might to raise this issue with them and start a hopefully short discussion on if we can do this. Also we might not bae able to get it a mandatory as Non-Fiction books might have a Category but not use the description "Genre". Purhaps we could have two "optional" fields one "Subject" and one "Genre". Being optional that will allow the changes to be made (if agreed fairly safely and quickly) with out upseting existing usages. Try raising this on the WP Books talk pages first as see what response you get. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 09:44, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi again, I have made the changes to the Infobox to add genre, as you can see I have added subject as well for the Non-fiction people. I have also augmented the documentation throughout. (Hopefully not missed anything. So go play with the tools. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 13:38, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Talk where?? edit

currently the place is the Main project pages "Talk" page but some projects find this a bit cumbersom confusing discussion of the "Main page" itself and general project issues. Some projects have a specific project sub-page for the purpose of "General Project" discussion. Ideas and constructive project wide criticism go there. What do you think? :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 09:47, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

In keeping with most standard projects templates the normal place for General discussion is in a Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/GeneralForum (although with slight name change). This is reachable from each project page via the WPNOVELS template on the right hand side. This was always an option being part for the standard WikiProjects. see Wikipedia:WikiProject and Template:WikiProject under "General strategy and discussion forums", both being a bit over kill.
It could be mentioned more prominently, Do you have any ideas where would be best. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 16:21, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

I have added a more prominent link to the General Forum on the project page and resequenced the WPNOVELS template. How does that look? :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 16:58, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Comments on User's Talk page edit

Saw your comment on someone else's talk page about some thing on mine. Usually all of this is just fine, talking on talk pages are for the consumption of the user and the other party, if fact that is exactly what they are for. The only thing worth adding is that if the subjest is of or becomed of general interest the talk should go on the relevant article or in this case perhaps on the appropriate project page. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 08:52, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Grumbles from the Grave edit

Please be careful about using automated or semi-automated tools. The book-stub on the Grumbles from the Grave page is apropriate, and the novel-stub that you inserted is not. If you read the article, you would easily see that the book is a collection of letters. It is not a novel. Hu 02:19, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about that, after going through about 500 novels it starts to get to you. As a result I am going to do fewer of these at one time!!! Thanks for letting me know about my goof up!!Eagle (talk) (desk) 16:23, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

User:WikiWorker edit

I've blocked this account. According the the user and user talk pages, this is intended as a bot created by you. I am not opposed to you running a bot, but I would advise a different username. I'll unblock your IP if I see that an autoblock has occurred. — Feb. 26, '06 [06:26] <freakofnurxture|talk>

Perhaps "EagleBot" or "EagleBot 101" or something like that? — Feb. 26, '06 [06:28] <freakofnurxture|talk>
Bad mistake on my part, this block occured due to me attempting to create a bot under a bad name. Oops!!Eagle (talk) (desk) 06:43, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
A name derived from the name of your main account would be good. "WikiWorker" would be bad because it might confuse some users into believing your bot is an employee of the foundation and possibly that it had more authority than other users/bots, so be creative, and good luck with your programming. — Feb. 26, '06 [06:40] <freakofnurxture|talk>
Any name you want I guess, again, be creative. There are bots named "Roomba", "Catapult", etc. I blocked "WikiWorker" on general principle, before I noticed it was intended as a bot, because I would interpret it as "one who works for Wikipedia" (rather than the rest of us volunteers) if I didn't know better. — Feb. 26, '06 [06:48] <freakofnurxture|talk>
I would see nothing wrong with "Gnome-Bot", as I assume "gnomes" are sufficiently different than "trolls", lol. — Feb. 26, '06 [06:50] <freakofnurxture|talk>
Nothing wrong with the parentheses either. I would recommend putting a space between the parentheses and the previous word, e.g. "Gnome (bot)" or something, but that's a matter of your own taste. — Feb. 26, '06 [06:54] <freakofnurxture|talk>
Go ahead and create whatever bot username you want (before somebody else registers it), as long as it's not offensive and can't be construed as an impersonation of some kind. — Feb. 26, '06 [06:59] <freakofnurxture|talk>
Shouldn't be a big deal. Archive this section of your talk page if you're worried about it. The matter is setted as far as I can see. I'll support unless I see some real reason not to. — Feb. 26, '06 [07:03] <freakofnurxture|talk>
Ok what I wanted to do was to put speedy delete on the WikiWoker account(Will you do it for me)???Eagle (talk) (desk) 07:18, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
