Films/novels edit
Wow, my first barnstar!! Thanks a bunch. I have updated the films that are also novels page; can you incorporate the revised sub-heading text into the program? I assume the program adds it under each sub-section? viz: "Don't forget to add in the article text of the film article. Report articles that should not be on the list in the False Hits section below. Thanks!" Also, can we put false hits on the talk page instead of the project page? (Makes it easier to navigate.) Thanks again. - I use FireFox. When I saw it the templates overlapped. The problem now is when I view revision history, I can't click to just view the previous version because of the status overlapping the top of the box. VandalProof and Interiot Tool edit
When I tried to put Interiot edit tool code in my monobook (which already had code for VandalProof in it), VP stopped working when I tried it that way and began working again when I took out the edit tool code. I suspect the same reason is why the edit tool did not work. How should I set this up so both programs work? Right now monobook only has the VP code and VP works fine. - That probably means that the code for the edit tool has a syntax error. As soon as Javascript hits an error, it stops executing anything after it. Different browsers have different/annoying ways to view javascript errors, but if you have Firefox laying around somewhere, I recommend using it and its Tools>Javascript Console. - Partially solved. The problem in it not running was I'd copied in the "pre" tags when I dropped the edit tool code in. But, I still have the issue of my code looking "broken" when I look at the monobook page via the leftmost user tab, but if I look at it by clicking on its date stamp in history, it looks normal. Some of my favorite pet projects:
- WP:UI - This is what you call image tagging. I like it because you get to look at a lot of visual stuff. Basically it entails looking through lists of untagged images and either finding the appropriate license or tagging them with {{subst:nsd}} or {{subst:nld}}. The only off side is that you can occasionally come across some pretty nasty images (usually uploaded for vandalism purposes). Although I must admit, I am suprised how rare the bad images are.
- Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links - This is another one of my favorites. Its kind of monotonous (sp?) at times, but its fun to pick a term and then see all the different ways its used. You do have to be kind of careful because some users can be a little anal if you don't disambiguate to their preferred version.
- I also like to occasionally help out with Wikipedia:Merging and moving pages. I can't find the exact link for the list/category of pages yet, but normally it's enjoyable to go through and pick some non-controversial moves and go ahead and preform them.
As for getting involved with AfD, perhaps the best way to start would be to do some new pages patrol (more info at Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol#Patrolling new pages). This way you can get started with a few of your own nominations and see them through from start to finish. It's really the best way to learn the process (although it can be frustrating at times). Also, there is a discussion going on somewhere about categorizing AfD. I can't find the link at the moment, but in a few more monhts that might be another good way to get involved.

Image Copyright edit
I just realised you were a VandalProof moderator right as your message came through.
Let me outline the methodology that I use for image tagging:
- I ask myself if the image will actually be used for the benefit of Wikipedia. If it looks like some dorky picture, something that was used for vandalism only, or something only used in an article about to be speedied, I just tag it with {{subst:nsd}} or {{subst:nld}} (no source deletion or no license deletion) depending on which applies.
- If I can determine the appropriate license for the image myself, then I will go ahead and tag it. There is a pretty complete list of copyright tags at WP:IT. I get a lot of logos {{logo}}, albums {{albumcover}} and screenshots, which are usually something like {{tv-screenshot}} or {{video-screenshot}} (for video games). If it looks like a photograph that the user took themself, then I tag it with {{GFDL-presumed|Hetar}}. Normally self taken photos have a relatively large resolution, and often times they will have left a comment indicating that they took it in the edit summary. Most of the time its just a matter of picking a matching license from WP:IT, which gets easier after some practice.
- Sources for pictures are pretty important, however if the image is some sort of a screenshot, box cover, logo, or poster, normally the source is obvious, so I try not to make a big deal of it.
- Any image tagged with {{fairusein|articlename}} needs to have a fair use rationale provided. Normally this is just a couple of points that say this is fair use because no other images of it exist, its impossible to take another picture (ie, the building burned down or whatever), its of low resolution, etc. Images that don't have this rational can be tagged with {{subst:nrd}}.
- I would also recommend reading WP:FU (no pun intended) as it can point out some interesting cases where images do not qualify for fair use. Other fair use review tags include {{fair use reduce}} {{fairusereview}} and {{fairusedisputed}}.
- Ocassionally you may come across images that appear to have a bogus license. For example, I came across an image of a bycicle from a manufacturers webpage today that was tagged with {{norightsreserved}}. In some instances you may just want to retag these images with an appropriate fair use license, but remember, if it is reasonably possible for us to obtain another 'free' image of the same type then we reall shouldn't be using a fair use image. At any rate, images that have bogus licenses, or for which you dispute the license should be listed at WP:PUI with a short explanation of why the current license is invalid.
- Fair use images that are not used in any articles should be tagged with {{subst:orfud}}.
- Many users (new or otherwise) will upload an image and say something to the effect of "I talked to the author and they gave me permission to use it on Wikipedia" or, "They said we can use it as long as its not for commercial purposes." Both of these permissions are insufficient because we license our content to different entities (ex: answers.com) and in some cases the foundation makes money from these uses. Relevant tags for images like this are {{copyrighted}} and {{noncommercial}}.
- Images with a fair use tag that is obviously invalid (ie a tag that claims fair use as currency when the image is of a magazine cover) are eligible for speedy deletion and can be tagged {{db-badfairuse}} Also, see Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Images/Media
Hopefully that covers everything :)
Here is the link for the list of merges: Category:Articles to be merged. There's no real technical tool used to do merges, its just good old copy and pasting. Normally you determine which article you want to remain and which article you want to turn into a redirect. Sometimes it will be obvious. Sometimes you may need to check Wikipedia:Naming conventions. Thanks, I assume you mean the "Novels without Infobox" list, I motored my way through the last rerun, rather too enthusiastically, (I did the same with the "Book stubs that should be Novel Stubs" one). It might be worth a short re-run (of both) just to put something in them for others to do. Always our aim but persuding others to put in the work is a challenge, there are one or two stallwart helpers, (You obviously have a handle on who is actually doing the work so no need to mention) - part of the aim of the newsletter is to keep the project in the "public" consciousness, i.e. the members attention. Also if members are not active it might encourage more envolvement. Any more notions on how to publicise, envolve more gratefully received. Also is it possible to run agaist the actual book category, (looking for misplaced novels) in a similar fashon to book stub->novel stub (i.e. book->novel)?

This would envolve a name change for the file to something like "Books_that_probably_should_be_novels" rather than the more restrictive current name. - OK this article is pretty clearly light hearted. It basically addresses comedy. What you need to do is get people to change their focus to addressing this as a collection of comedy routines (i.e. inclusiveness). You start reverting any deletions. Enforce a "constructive edits only" policy, that means no major deletions without your OK. Change to the goal to "we are trying to assemble a list with descriptions". - I wouldn't worry too much about it. Generally the best way to prove you are neutral is to be indifferent and ignorant of the topic. If you know a lot about the topic and have opinions then you aren't neutral. If you are neutral they generally will not come to believe you aren't neutral, remember you explain that you are reverting one sides deletions not just one side's. Take charge the worst that happens is a failed mediation and another mediator can step in. Thanks for re-running that one. You are going to get a large number of messages on these. So sit tight. Proposal the file name should change to "Books that should Novels". And we should propose that change along with the others on the GeneralForum (with crossref on the lists talk page) (not fussed who does it! - happy to do the work)

First though I was wondering why not add the 55 Novel category items found, I can't myself see the logic in not adding them at this stage. Books that should Novels edit
Once operational in this guise we could add searches on Category:History books that make use of the word novel, fiction etc. Also then we could use Category:Crime books that use the same terms. NovelsInCompleteInfobox list edit
Personally I would make the parameters checked the following (in order of priority)
- "name"
- "author"
- "publisher"
- "release date"
- "genre"
- "country"
- "language"
- "country"
- "isbn"
n.b. ISBN is interesting - even though it is a mandatory field - genuinely not all books have them - particularly before 1966.
the message suggested looks fine.

Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/NovelsWithoutInfobox edit
It looks to me as the Category:Novels has been "sorted" / "depopulated" of actual novel articles. SO, this leaves this with option of adding other "genres" or scanning other categories such as "yyyy novels".
