New Zealand law WikiProject edit

Kia ora,

I've seen you around quite a bit, so you may have seen my post on WT:NZ, but I thought I'd flick you a message on here in case you haven't. Would you be interested in joining an NZ law WikiProject (or task force). If you want to see more information on it, definitely have a look on the main talk page: Wikipedia:New Zealand Wikipedians' notice board#New Zealand law WikiProject.

Thanks! :) Carolina2k22(talk)(edits) 08:26, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

The task force has been created per our discussion the other week, I invite you to join it if you are still interested :)
This user wants you to join WikiProject NZ Law.

Advice for studying politics edit

Apologies in advance if this is not appropriate here. I am considering studying politics and I saw on your user page that you studied politics at Otago. I was wondering whether I could ask you some questions about politics at Otago? Philipp.governale (talk) 02:45, 4 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi Philipp.governale, I'll be happy to answer your questions. It's been about nine years since I completed my BA degree but will do my best to answer your questions. We could correspond either here or via Facebook Messenger. Let me know what works for you. I'll have to go to work soon. Andykatib (talk) 02:50, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for your help Andykatib! Perhaps Messenger is easier, though it's up to you, I don't mind. My name on Messenger is the same. Philipp.governale (talk) 03:09, 4 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi Philipp.governale, thanks for getting in touch. Have left a message on your Messenger account. Sorry for the delay, was working two shifts at Dominos in South Dunedin last night till closing. Andykatib (talk) 19:30, 4 February 2023 (UTC)

That didn't create a ping, Andykatib; you must place the ping link AND your signature in the same edit. Philipp.governale, here's a ping for you. Schwede66 04:04, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks Schwede66 for the ping! I hadn't seen Andykatib's message, but we nonetheless got in touch via messenger earlier today. Philipp.governale (talk) 04:59, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Schwede66: and @Philipp.governale:,thanks for letting me know how to create a ping. Sorry for the late reply. I was doing a closing shift at Dominos. It was busy since it was the eve of Waitangi Day. Cheers. Andykatib 12:04, 5 February 2023 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia (2023) edit

The article Timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia (2023) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This page isn't a timeline, it's an unnecessary page full of statistics that can just be added in existing pages such as Statistics of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia. An article shouldn't be created just for stats, especially with a misleading title "Timeline". WP:NOTSTATS

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi @Edl-irishboy:, thanks for the notices regarding Timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia (2023) and Timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic in New Zealand (2023). I have added more references to comply with the notices and give more meat to those articles. I am halfway through the Timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia (2022) article which is pretty thin on non-statistical data. By the way, @Schwede66: has removed those notices citing a disagreement. I thought it would be best to let you two know so that we can resolve any disagreements. Thanks. Andykatib (talk) 08:36, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. It's best that these timeline articles have sufficient media/news reports regarding Covid-19 in the country like other Timeline articles and not just full of statistics. I see that you and @Schwede66: have added information in the articles, so thank you for that. Edl-irishboy (talk) 17:54, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Well I haven't added content; I merely removed the PROD. But all is good. Schwede66 21:08, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
No worries, @Edl-irishboy: and @Schwede66:, will make sure these timeline pages meet Wikipedia standards. Cheers. Andykatib 23:23, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

Redirects edit

I appreciate what you're trying to do with changing the Three Waters redirects, however per WP:NOTBROKEN it is not necessary. I don't have a problem if you want to keep doing it, just seems like a lot of work you don't really have to do and I thought I'd let you know in case you didn't already. --Pokelova (talk) 12:22, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Pokelova:, thanks for letting me know about WP:NOTBROKEN. I wasn’t aware about this policy. Now I understand that not all redirects are necessary depending on the situation such as if the subject is known by different names, titles or abbreviations. Andykatib (talk) 12:33, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

Attacks on S201050066 edit

Andykatib why did you block our email address you have been causing a lot of problems and you are not willing to stop us you have been telling people about our actions you sound like Donald Trump and quit attacking us I have a freedom speech and you can't take it away and I have a wife to S201050066 number 72.2 (talk) 23:46, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

Dylan, I have not been attacking you at all. You are making baseless claims and accusations. You are only digging a deeper pit for yourself by harassing me and disturbing the peace on Wikipedia. Andykatib (talk) 01:04, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Re: Sockpuppet edit

I'm replying here to try to be WP:DENY-friendly. You pinged me about welcoming a sockpuppet.   Sorry! I genuinely didn't know this person was a sockpuppet. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 03:35, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi I dream of horses, no worries. I have reported User:S201050066's latest sockpuppet account on Wikipedia:ANI. S201050066 has a history of disrupting COVID-19-related articles since April 2022. He's never gotten over being banned and has sadly chosen to wage war on Wikipedia. Andykatib (talk) 03:39, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
That's an unusually long time to not get over a block (usually, that lasts a couple weeks at most). Concerning! I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 03:40, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Yes, the user in question has autism. His brother has tried to talk sense to him but he won't listen. So the best response would be to ban his accounts on sight. S20105066 has at least 149 sockpuppet accounts. Andykatib (talk) 03:43, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Just an update @I dream of horses:, User:S201050066 number 72.2 has just been banned by User:Euryalus. Will keep an eye out for more of his sockpuppet accounts. Andykatib 03:49, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
@Andykatib I have autism as well. I also know other autistic people. Autism doesn't fully explain this behavior. I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 15:03, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Hi @I dream of horses:, I am also autistic by the way. I have Asperger's syndrome. I have to agree that autism on its own doesn’t fully explain or justify S20105066's behaviour. Hope he changes his behaviour. Andykatib 17:33, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
Same to all of that! A lot of Wikipedians have autism, ADHD, OCD, or some combination of the above. Clearly, this is an accommodating community. Hopefully, I dream of horses (Contribs) (Talk) 01:59, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi there, I wouldn't be too worried about S20105066's sockpuppet accounts. I think he's subject to a global ban where any sockpuppet accounts are banned on sight. He is one of many vandals to plague Wikipedia and other similar projects. Andykatib (talk) 02:46, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

2023 floods edit

I see that you've started this draft for recent flooding in the South Island. In the Queenstown cryptosporidiosis outbreak article I've created a red link to this flooding, so if you change the name of the flood article when you move it to mainspace, please keep that in mind. —Panamitsu (talk) 07:23, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Panamitsu:, thanks so much for creating an article on the Queenstown cryptosporidiosis outbreak. If I change the name of article, will remember to change the link. Not sure if the floods in the lower South Island are connected to the stormy weather currently hitting the east coast of the North Island. Andykatib (talk) 07:31, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
I'm not too up to date with the weather but I did hear that the storm was moving north so it could be. On the other hand I heard that there is more rain coming from Fiji, so I'm not sure if it has already arrived. Regardless, it appears that the most notable part of the weather event in your draft is the flooding in the South Island, so the title may not have to change? —Panamitsu (talk) 07:38, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
Okay, will see how it develops. I extended an invitation on the WikiProject New Zealand talk page for anyone who is interested in participating. Cheers. Andykatib (talk) 09:52, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Children edit

Please note that we never name the children of those who have bios on Wikipedia. The exception is if those children themselves are notable (e.g. have a WP entry themselves), or at least are very well known (e.g. Max Key). Schwede66 23:48, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Schwede66:, thanks for the advice. Regarding Winston Peters' family, would it be okay to retain Bree Peters since she is notable and has her own Wikipedia article while deleting Joel? Andykatib (talk) 00:09, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
Yes, that's the way to do it. Just say "one son and one daughter, the actress Bree Peters" or something like that. Schwede66 00:40, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
@Schwede66:, okay will do that. Andykatib (talk) 01:32, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

The recent edits seem SPAish. I'm not famaliar with them at all and see you've edited them. Thank you! Cheers Adakiko (talk) 09:56, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Adakiko:, sorry for the late reply. I was working a closing shift at Dominos and didn't get home till before 1am. If you have tried engaging with the other user and you are not able to resolve the dispute, you might want to refer the matter to Wikipedia:Administrator's noticeboard/Edit warring. From what I have read, the other user has a strong opinion about The Platform radio station's editorial standpoint. Hope this helps. Andykatib (talk) 20:07, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
No problem with the delay, I had signed off (pun intended) shortly after posting. I don't know if the sources are RS or not. Should that content "right-wing" be in the article? The editor claims, without a source, that it's untrue. See the two ES here. Might be a sock and/or coi issue too. Cheers! Adakiko (talk) 22:29, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Adakiko:, the two sources that the other user removed are reliable sources. The Spinoff is a left-leaning/liberal current affairs online publication based in Auckland. Radio New Zealand is a public broadcasting service and the NZ equivalent of BBC News and ABC News (Australia). The Spinoff article cited doesn't explicitly say that The Platform is a right-wing source but founder Sean Plunket talks a good deal about his radio station providing an alternative to the perceived left-wing slant of the mainstream media in New Zealand. The Radio NZ article doesn't explicitly describe The Platform as anti-vaccinationist but documents how it hosted anti-COVID groups like the Voices for Freedom and NZ Doctors Speak Out With Science. The-then Platform host Rodney Hide, who is an ACT party politician, has expressed anti-COVID vaccine views and later joined a much more explicitly-anti-vax station called Reality Check Radio. When I first published the article in December 2022, I avoided describing as right-wing and anti-vaccination to avoid the edit wars but rather led the sources speak for themselves. Hope this helps clarify the situation. Andykatib (talk) 00:41, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for your time and explanation! That content has since been restored. We'll see what happens next! Cheers Adakiko (talk) 09:49, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Adakiko:, thanks for keeping me in the loop. Hopefully, we can resolve things peacefully with @McGregorNZ:. Might be good to warn them that they are breaching Wikipedia:3RR. Andykatib (talk) 11:08, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
@Adakiko:. I have reached out to McGregorNZ on his talk page and advised them to engage in dialogue at Talk:The Platform (radio station). I have also lodged a protection request at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Increase in response to the edit warring. Andykatib (talk) 11:37, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay edit

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
