Natural disasters in New Zealand edit

Hello,

I've noticed you've added quite a few events to this article over the past few months, that I have eventually removed for not being notable enough to count as a natural 'disaster'. A bit of surface flooding on roads or some landslips does not count as a natural disaster, if it did then the list would be chockablock with every time NZ got heavy rain. For a weather event to count then it needs to have a significant and widespread effect on human lives or property.

Thank you, Maple Doctor (talk) 07:05, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Maple Doctor:, no worries. Now I understand that it will be best to only include significant disasters that have cause considerable damage or deaths. Won't include minor events that fizzled out or brought little damage. Thanks for the teaching moment. Will be more careful in the future. Cheers. Andykatib (talk) 07:39, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Bill marked pending edit

Hey the Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Bill page still has pending in the infobox. Should it stay like that until RA or be changed now to current legislation?

COVID-19 Timeline pages edit

Hi Andykatib I hope you are doing okay but I just want to let you know that User 99.252.42.107 has been unnecessary changes to the COVID-19 Timeline Pages for the Months of August and September of 2021 and had to follow the policy and I had to revert his edits for both the months S201050066 talk:S201050066#top|talk]]) 4:16 pm Eastern Standard time March 6 2022.

Hi @S201050066:. I have reviewed those edits that User:99.252.42.107 made for the August and September 2021 timeline articles. They added information about recoveries and the death toll which will be useful. However, the user has problems with grammar, punctuation and spelling. Instead of reverting their edits, it might be better just to rewrite them in grammatically correct sentences. I am a bit busy right now so this is something you could do on your own. Thanks. Andykatib (talk) 21:42, 6 March 2022 (UTC) Hi Andykatib I just want to let you know that User:99.252.42.107 added even more edits from Ontario, and Quebec, to the Monthly Timeline Of The Covid-19 Pandemic pages again would you please inform Tenryuu about this matter. Mention in ANI thread edit

Hi Andykatib, I filed a report on S201050066 at the ANI, and I mentioned you there. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 20:20, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi Tenryuu, sorry that the situation with 201050066 has deteriorated. Thanks for filing the report. I think that 201050066 means well in wanting to contribute the COVID-19 data on Ontario and Quebec. However, his behaviour and conduct breaches Wikipedia policy. User:201050066 did want me to mention that an anonymous User:99.252.42.107 has also been editing the Timeline entries on Ontario and Quebec as well as the Ontario and Quebec timeline pages. I will try to reach out to 201050066. Sorry I was asleep since it was past midnight in New Zealand. Andykatib 21:22, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
No worries. The anonymous IP editor hasn't made any reversions, so I'm not concerned with them for now. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 21:44, 30 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, it's sad that S201050066 has spurned efforts to help them become a better contributor to Wikipedia. If they are not willing to listen to feedback and advice, I agree that it is best that S201050066 not contribute. The Ontario and Quebec data could probably go on the provincial timeline pages rather than the global one. Could do that during my free time throughout the year. Voices for Freedom article edit

Hi there, this page looks good and sits nicely alongside the page for Claire Deeks. That is a tricky thing to do, so well done. Realitylink (talk) 09:54, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi @Realitylink:, you're welcome. Have been working on it along with The Freedom and Rights Coalition article for the past few days. I felt that the material on Voices for Freedom and the TFRC in the COVID-19 anti-lockdown protests in New Zealand could be spun off into their own articles given the amount of media coverage of the groups. TFRC is now turning its attention to general opposition towards the Government. They are planning more protests in Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington. I thought that it would be good to give the Coalition their own article to cover non-COVID-19 protests. Andykatib 10:00, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Good idea. I will keep an eye out for sources and drop them here for you, as well as watching the pages. We had to deal with vandalism on the Deeks page - from both sides! Realitylink (talk) 22:08, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Realitylink:, thanks so much. It will be good to incorporate material from the Claire Deeks article into the VFF article. Simon Thornley’s article could also include some material from Deek’s article. Will be good to keep and eye out for vandalism and biased editing on these articles. My understanding is that no Wikipedia article exists in isolation but interacts with other articles and sources. Andykatib (talk) 22:41, 9 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Louisa Wall edit

The edit added the sentence "In December 2020, she fellow IPAC member and National MP Simon O'Connor urged New Zealand to speak out against China's alleged "coercive diplomacy" and support Australia in the face of escalating diplomatic and trade tensions between Australia and China." That sentence doesn't make sense, and it's unclear what it's trying to say, so I removed it. The Drover's Wife (talk) 09:11, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for getting back in touch @The Drover's Wife:. To provide some context, the IPAC is an international parliamentary group consisting of mainly Western countries, Japan, and India that is critical of the Chinese Government. Regarding that problematic sentence, I could maybe amend it to say something like "she and fellow IPAC member and National MP Simon O'Connor urged New Zealand to support Australia in the face of escalating diplomatic and trade tensions with China." Would that be better? Andykatib (talk) 09:14, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'm not disputing the fact, I'm pointing out that "she fellow IPAC member" is nonsense. "She and fellow IPAC member and National MP Simon O'Connor", if that's what it was intended to say, is incorrect pronoun use, which is why it reads so strangely beyond just a typo. The Drover's Wife (talk) 09:28, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Okay @The Drover's Wife:, would it then just be better to say "she and fellow IPAC member Simon O'Connor?" Could drop the bit about O'Connor being a National MP. Andykatib (talk) 10:48, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think, in this case, the pronoun makes things less clear. "Wall and her fellow IPAC member Simon O'Conner" would be clearer. Furius (talk) 11:48, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Furius:, thanks very much for your advice. Will amend the article based on your feedback. Cheers. Andykatib (talk) 11:55, 22 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Death of Malachi Subecz edit

Hey, did you plan to write a page on the death of Malachi Subecz? I have been considering it for a little while, and just saw your section added to Oranga Tamariki. If you’ve got something in the works then I’ll happily let you take the lead, otherwise I’ll start soon and link you when something’s up. — HTGS (talk) 00:05, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @HTGS:, thanks very much for your interest in my material on the Malachi Subecz page in Oranga Tamariki. I haven't had plans to create an article on the Malachi Subecz case. I have been preoccupied working on some draft articles for the 2022 Sandringham dairy stabbing and Ben Bell. However, I'll be happy to assist you with working on the Malachi Subecz case in a support capacity if you want to start up one. Andykatib (talk) 00:10, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Ben Bell edit

On 29 December 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ben Bell, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ben Bell was elected at the age of 23 as New Zealand's youngest-ever mayor during the 2022 local elections? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ben Bell. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Ben Bell), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
