Add to article that Slipknot will be at Mayhem Festival 2012

Don't forget to add to the article that Slipknot will be at Mayhem Festival 2012.--Jax 0677 (talk) 14:22, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

NWOAHM must be added to genres section

--82.139.5.13 (talk) 18:07, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

why are slipknot's main genre heavy metal?

their riffs aren't heavy enough!!! it just seems pretty lazy putting them under such a general genre like heavy metal. their main genre should be under either groove metal or alternative metal because of their experimentation — Preceding unsigned comment added by 27.32.220.148 (talk) 15:41, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Heavy metal is the main genre, nu and alternative metal are its subgenre, so the main scope is mentioned in the lead, the details are put in the infobox and rest of the article. Hope this helps, take care, — Quibus (talk) 18:16, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Soundwave Festival

Fix the link below the picture, it leads to another article, not related to the Festival in Australia. TheForsakenWanderer (talk)

Slipknot to record new in album in 2013, it's been confirmed by Sid Wilson!

Sid Wilson of slipknot has confirmed that they will be entering the studio in early 2013 to start recording a new studio album. He said even while corey is out touring with stone sour the rest of the guys will be in the studio writing while waiting for Corey's return. He says that he's tired of hearing people 'talk' so it's time for slipknot to get it done and says it will be 'brutal'.

Why Do You Put Slipknot as a heavy metal band??

is truly ashame that a band just do not acept itself how they really are.. slipnot as far to be a Metal band worstly to be a Heavy Pure Metal jajaja heavy metal as the main genre is so ridicolus is like to not accept ourself... even not to put other subgenres of this band like rapcore post-grunge truly ashame... the vainilla never gona be chocolate

Edit

As this is locked(!) can someone who can edit change this please: "Mushroomhead fans through objects" in the 'Controversy' section. Missed that one Wiki geeks..! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.24.46.243 (talk) 01:21, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Took care of that for you, non-Wiki geek! ;) -- blackngold29 03:29, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Knotfest

Someone needs to reword that part. It's already happened and the article is still referring to it in future-tense. --76.19.128.100 (talk) 19:43, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Done it. The1337gamer (talk) 21:00, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Genres

I think it would be better if nu metal was putted as (early). theM0Nster20010 (talk)

They're also considered Shock Rock because of their appearance and antics on stage. Same as Marilyn Manson and Alice Cooper. --76.19.128.100 (talk) 00:47, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Why doesn't Mick Thomson have a seperate wikipedia page like the other Slipknot band members?--Jacoblikesmetal (talk) 13:31, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Not enough reliably sourced info on him, not notable enough to merit his own page. The1337gamer (talk) 15:24, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

I read on the NME website that Slipknot are planning to record a new studio album in 2013. Is this something that shoulde be mentioned or should we wait until they confirm it officially? Link to it is here http://www.nme.com/news/slipknot/63602 --Jacoblikesmetal (talk) 12:36, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Better to wait till an official announcement from the band before this gets put into the article, there has been plenty of speculation and rumours about a new album since Gray's death, with certain band members coming out and saying they are ready to record and others saying they are not ready and so on. Brandon Darner

Would you mind adding Brandon Darner to the former members list? Thanks.

  • That depends on who Brandon Darner is, exactly... --Jasca Ducato (talk) 09:13, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

(non-admin closure)

– Clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. 170,000 hits compared to less than 1000 for the comic book character and the web browser. Slipknot which is currently the dab page also receives 18,000 hits and judging by the stats the vast majority of them will be looking for info about the band. 82.132.229.118 (talk) 00:27, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

  • Comment Do not forget about the longstanding usage as a type of knot, prior to the establishment of the band. -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 05:18, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose. The primary usage is the type of knot. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:49, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose. The band is named after the knot, and if you ask a random person what "slipknot" means, they will know about the knot and will not know about the band. The knot should be the primary topic. Looking for "slipknot" and finding a band would be too much of a WP:SURPRISE. —BarrelProof (talk) 22:20, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Support, noting that slip knot is already at a "primary topic" location and would remain there even with this change. The two-word version is the knot, the one-word version is the band, and the disambiguation page can cover the other uses. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 20:25, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
    • Comment that the knot is located at "slip knot" does not affect whether it is also the primary topic of "slipknot". -- 65.92.180.137 (talk) 21:18, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
    • Untrue, since the knot is just as frequently spelled as a single word. -- Necrothesp (talk) 23:25, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
For comparison, a quick Google search showed 2,150,000 hits for "slip knot" with most links directing to the band; "slipknot" came back with 43,400,000 hits with all links directing to the band. --Jasca Ducato (talk) 15:59, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
While your dedication at verifying over 43 million hits is exceptionally praiseworthy, I have to say: so what? Any claims that the band is more notable than the knot after which it is named are simply laughable. -- Necrothesp (talk) 20:58, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
On what ground to you base that 'observation'? --Jasca Ducato (talk) 22:16, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, let me think. Knot, been around for centuries, used and/or known by most people in the world, will be around for centuries more. Band, been around for a few years, quite popular but not overwhelmingly (hardly in the same league as The Beatles or the Rolling Stones, for example), probably heard of by a relatively small percentage of the world's population, will probably fade into obscurity within a decade or two. You work it out! It's common sense. -- Necrothesp (talk) 18:21, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose per Necrothesp and BarrelProof. Fortdj33 (talk) 16:19, 5 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Support. The nom has shown that it's clearly the most commonly searched-for target; the knot will remain untouched at Slip knot. If the band isn't moved, the title "Slipknot" should redirect to "Slip knot". For what it's worth, the band gets by far the most page views, while the knot is more common in the sources:20k Google Books hits vs. 13k. The other articles don't compare.--Cúchullain t/c 15:51, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Masks and Image

I see the section at the bottom of the page devoted to their image, masks and jumpsuits and such, but it is a little odd no mention of the fact they wear these are written in the header or the early days section. The masks and jumpsuits are such a huge part of this band, it is the first thing many think about when they think about the band, so it just seems odd there isn't anything, even a quick mention, in the header and/or the early days section. Personally I think something absolutely should be added about this earlier in the article. Thoughts?Zdawg1029 (talk) 21:16, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Why would there be? The whole point of having a separate section is to keep that information out of the main body. --Jasca Ducato (talk) 08:13, 12 August 2013 (UTC)

Paul Gray

i find it insulting that Paul Gray has been put as a former member of slipknot just because he passed away. he has always been a part of slipknot, and was an integral part of slipknot as he wrote most of their songs. just because he is dead does not mean that he is not a part of slipknot. i would appreciate it if you change it so that he is a current member of slipknot. with him being a former member as you have put it, it also messes with the bands thing of having numbers up to 9, if they are missing one. 2.219.14.222 (talk) 23:38, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Not done: that's the normal way of describing a situation like this, and is not insulting. The lead section lists him as one of the nine, before going on to say, "However, the death of Paul Gray on May 24, 2010, left the band with only eight remaining members." The Band members section makes it clear that he is deceased, and the #2 place is not filled. It's all correct. --Stfg (talk) 09:42, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Indeed. There's no changing the fact that he is now dead, and so cannot possibly be a "current member", as depressing as that is. --Jasca Ducato (talk) 10:12, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

The death of Slipknot

Okay maybe the title is a little much, but as for reasons why Joey left the band, here on the Wiki page all we put is that it was for personal reasons. I have read in a couple articles, I found this quote by Joey:

"Right now my work is SCAR THE MARTYR, but SLIPKNOT isn't going anywhere. You can mark my words on that."

There are a few more things said in these articles I linked below that we might be able to add. And on a side note, to me this is shocking, he was easily their most talented member, never thought this would happen.Zdawg1029 (talk) 02:45, 14 December 2013 (UTC)
