If you're saying death metal should be added as a subgenre then, no. Although it has been cited that Slipknot's earlier works contained hints of death metal, it is not broad enough to classify Slipknot as a death metal act. The genres listed are Heavy metal, nu metal and alternative metal because Slipknot encompasses these genres at a huge range on their recordings. The "who" in the sentence is completely unnecessary, and would have been a simple fix were this page not edit protected. As it stands, the "who" muddies the meaning of the sentence. Correction to "Controversy with masks"

In the article it states the following, "Burger King responded to the suit with a countersuit, and in that suit pointed out that many other bands, such as Mr. Bungle, Mushroomhead, Mudvayne, Kiss, Insane Clown Posse and Gwar have used masks as part of their image."

To the best of my knowledge, and from looking up pictures and information on the bands listed above, Mudvayne, KISS & Insane Clown Posse never wore masks. Did they wear makeup? Yes, but not masks. I may be wrong on this, and if so I hope someone would point it out.

Here is my personal recollection of each of the bands I mentioned above.

KISS - I have been a fan of KISS for many, many years, I used to listen to their LPs and 45s, and their CDs. I've seen them on talk shows and such, and I've seen them with and without their makeup; but I've never seen them wear any masks.

Mudvayne - I am from Illinois and I remember when Mudvayne 1st started getting popular, that was almost 10 years ago. I loved their makeup, but no masks. I did see a few pictures of them where they were wearing red dress suits with white Alien masks, maybe that is what the article is referring to, but my impression from reading the article is that they were talking about using masks on a regular basis.

Insane Clown Posse - I'm not a big fan of ICP, I never have been and I never will be. However, I do know who Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent Jay are, and I've seen them all over the internet and I do like some of their music. I have always seen them wearing paint, mostly black and white but sometimes other colors. I've seen them wearing all sorts of things, but masks were never one of them.

I'm not saying I know everything about these three bands, I know I don't. I haven't followed them their entire careers, I probably know less than 10% of their songs (zero for Mudvayne). I do love music however and when I saw that there were six other bands that wore masks, it sparked my curiosity because I couldn't recall either of the three bands I mentioned wearing masks.

This is true, however these bands were examples and references included in Slipknot's law suit against Burger King. Besides Kiss, GWAR, Insane Clown Posse, Mushroomhead, Mudvayne they listed Marilyn Manson and Los Straitjackets. Death metal influence

It's been a while since I looked at this article, and in the meantime, somebody has removed all reference to the band's death metal influences. There was some discussion a few years ago, and I produced a whole bunch of sources (found here) backing this up. What is the rationale for their removal? If the material is not restored, or a reasonable rationale provided for their non-inclusion, I will restore them myself tomorrow. Blackmetalbaz (talk) 16:16, 20 November 2010 (UTC)

Early history

There is a serious error in the first paragraph of the early history. It correctly lists donnie steele as the first guitarist, but it later states donnie was invited in as the second guitarist when it should say josh brainard was invited as the second guitarist. id fix this error myself but the page is protected. 76.206.242.205 (talk) 01:56, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Starting fifth album

According to an article from Billboard posted today, Slipknot have begun writing their fourth studio album. It also says they have no plans to replace Gray, and expect to have a bass player off stage during live performances. I'd add this to the article myself, but I think parts of it may have to be restructured. So I'll leave that up to someone more familiar with the band and their situation. A consenus of the genre has been met on the Slipknot talk page already. Slipknot has been nominated six times in the Best Metal Performance category at the Grammy Awards, Before I Forget was listed as the best metal song of the decade by AOL 2000-2010 and AllMusic categorized Slipknot as a heavy metal band. How the hell is Slipknot not metal? That's like saying Slayer is dream pop, that's like saying Cannibal Corpse is emo, that's like saying Obama will one day decide to side with diseases that effect out country. Early history error

I can't edit for some reason, so can someone fix it for me? In the first paragraph, it states that donnie steel was the lead guitarist. it later states in the same paragraph donnie steele was invited in as a second guitarist. Obviously, josh brainard was supposed to be invited in as the second guitarist. its a human mistake, but needs to be fixed.
