Merge/Redirect or Clean up?

It seems that, right now, little is known about the Nintendo Network, and as such, I'm constantly just removing unsourced personal speculation, or the speculation of fansites and random blogs. As such, I feel like it should be merged/redirected until there's more verified information.

Alternatively, if we do decided to keep the article as is, I think it either needs to be "protected" to some degree, and changed around. For instance, you don't see running lists of supported games on the Playstation Network article. They're either made separate lists articles (not recommended yet) or made as a category or something.

Cloud Storage

Nintendo TVii

It's already marked as needing expansion, but the section about Nintendo TVii in this article is shorter than the paragraph about it in the Wii U article (yet the paragraph in the Wii U article says that the section in this article is the main article). Alphius (talk) 01:04, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Miiverse article split

There are several outlets praising the ingenuity of Miiverse by itself and many of them claim it as one of the Wii U's best-selling point. I really suggest we should split the Miiverse section into its own article now. Hope(N Forever) (talk) 15:51, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Italic title

I question whether this article's title should be in italics, per WP:ITALIC. The articles that use the same infobox type such as Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network also don't use italics. However, this article doesn't appear to have {{italic title}} written in it (although I may be missing something here), so I'm not sure what's going on with that. I don't really understand because if it was automatically done by the infobox or something, then why isn't it in those other articles? I tried checking out the page for that template but it didn't really say anything about it. It seems you've looked into this as well, so maybe we should just ask at the WP:HelpDesk or WP:Teahouse. One thing that could be used though, is the Template:DISPLAYTITLE, and then just write it without italics. {{DISPLAYTITLE:Nintendo Network}}. Actually, this is something I just tried to do to List of Nintendo Direct presentations so that Nintendo Direct is italicised, but 'List of' and 'presentations' was not, but it didn't seem to work. Referenced content has been removed repeatedly by Arkhandar (talk · contribs) multiple times. In the reports, the phrase "わいせつ画像送受信" (transmission of obscene imagery) is used, which refers to pornographic imagery, and not simply any kind of "offensive material". Nintendo is a Japanese company, and any actions the company takes is more better documented in Japanese sources, and this includes news reports, legal statements, police reports, and official announcements. "offensive material" is vague, and can refer to insults, racism, and the like, all of which are not as serious, and do not carry as much of a heavier connotation than "pornographic imagery". Don't whitewash and blank content simply because you might not like it, or that it doesn't conform with the way you like things; this is becoming borderline disruptive editing behaviour. It is poor form to downplay and sugar-coat it with scare quotes and lightened euphemistic terms such as "offensive material" like a Nintendo marketing team in damage control mode. Miiverse Clones

The user MyNameJeff69420linux edited the miiverse clones section off of the page, and is most definitely a user from one of the clones. This is a warning to undo their edits here as they are no doubt a vandal. A few of the users of one of the miiverse clones weren't happy about the addition of this section to the page. This is just a warning that they may be back soon, possibly under a different name or the same one. Either way, they signed up just to vandalize this page. First, article talk pages aren't the place to report vandalism. Second, you have not established the notability of Closedverse other than "it has around 9000 users." The only source you have provided is the site itself, which is insufficient. You have not demonstrated that this Miiverse clone has been covered by any reliable sources. Shutdown timezone consensus - PDT, UTC, or JST? (April 8 or April 9?)

Wanted to try to establish some consensus here about the timezone we'll be using for the discontinuation date. I'm in the 'use UTC' camp, others appear to be in the 'use PDT' camp, and ofc this has an impact on whether or not the article says April 9 or April 8 - and I don't think anyone wants an edit war to happen.

Looking at MOS:TIMEZONE, it says to use the timezone most relevant to where the event happened - but, it was a global event, hence why I consider UTC to be appropriate. However, seeing as Nintendo is a Japanese company, there is the argument that using JST would be more appropriate instead. However, I doubt that PDT is the right timezone to use for this event.

So, I wanna hear everyone else's thoughts on the matter, and see if we can all come to a definitive consensus on which one to use (so this conversation doesn't end up repeating itself in the future). 🔥HOTm̵̟͆e̷̜̓s̵̼̊s̸̜̃🔥 (talk・edits) 12:10, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Including a mention of the final players

@Quetstar: This isn't a super significant detail, so if you disagree I'll let it rest, but I personally think that mentioning the fact players still managed to play past the shutdown date is a detail worth mentioning. Mentioning Lcd by name? Maybe not, but something as simple as "Some players managed to stay online past the shutdown for several days." is not harmful to include. There's adequate sourcing for something like this to be included as well, so I wouldn't say it's "insufficiently notable." Feel free to disagree, though. λ NegativeMP1 17:04, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

The way I view is that the article right now implies the servers shut down on that EXACT moment, when it did not on any game. I feel as if having the article imply that is objectively incorrect. And one to two sources is plenty enough to back up that the server's didn't instantly shut down, in my opinion. λ NegativeMP1 23:16, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

I disagree in that in the grand scheme of things, noting that some players were able to stay connected for a little while is not important. The online service is gone. It would be the same as saying "The party ended at 7pm but some people lingered before getting kicked out." The general reader cares more about what day the online service was officially shut down. It could be countered if there is sufficient verifiable context, for example online multiplayer shutdowns have always been "instant" and Nintendo Network is the one exception. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 23:31, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
