Portal:Minnesota

Well I'm not sure what should be done here, but this page has not been edited since October 2010. SusanLesch was the creator and almost the sole human editor. — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs)  23:54, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

It's fine to drop that section. What do I have to do to comply with this WikiProject? What did the RFC to delete portals decide? -SusanLesch (talk) 14:09, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
The RfC decided to keep portals. You don't have to do anything to "comply", but this project is developing some useful tools. You can invite us to use them on the Minnesota portal, use them yourself, or simply leave the existing pages as they are. Most of our work is in replacing neglected portals by a simple no-maintenance pattern, but that's not appropriate for Portal:Minnesota as it already exceeds that basic standard. Certes (talk) 16:59, 3 August 2018 (UTC)
All right, thank you, Certes. Also thanks Mr. Guye for the ping. -SusanLesch (talk) 22:17, 3 August 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion request

@Primefac, Amorymeltzer, Pbsouthwood, and Waggers:

Please speedy delete the following 2 single-page portals, per {{Db-g7}}:

I failed to notice that we already have portals on those subjects under different titles.

This will also pave the way for moves of the original portals to the new titles.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   23:55, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

@The Transhumanist: Before I go through and double check all these, I just want to note that you've made a fair number of editorial changes in terms of content to display. This page has seemingly been inactive for nearly a decade, so that's fine, but it should at least be noted. ~ Amory (utc) 01:19, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject Java/Box resources and the Java WP should be changed to accommodate the removal of these pages. ~ Amory (utc) 01:24, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Okay, I've done these. Made a number of edits to Wikipedia:WikiProject Java to handle this; don't feel too bad since the WP itself is pretty old as well. For posterity, the changes were to: Wikipedia:WikiProject Java/Box resources, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Java/Box statistics, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Java/Box statistics]], Wikipedia:WikiProject Java/Things you can do/Done things, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Java/Things you can do/to do. ~ Amory (utc) 01:47, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
@Amorymeltzer: Thank you. By the way, would you be so kind as to delete the redirect at Portal:Java, to make way for a new portal on the island known as Java (to correspond to the article naming structure)?    — The Transhumanist   23:44, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Is there a reason it needs to be deleted? Can't you just create it over the redirect? ~ Amory (utc) 00:55, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

d-batch request: Portal:Chess subpages

Portal:Chess has been upgraded. The following list of subpages is no longer needed.Guilherme Burn (talk) 18:20, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Extended content
@Guilherme Burn: I'm willing to do this, but having checked all of these pages, there are two issues.
  1. Wikipedia:WikiProject Chess/Index of chess articles links a lot of them. Easy fix, can just remove the deleted items.
  2. Portal:Chess/Selected article list is linked on many articles from their talkpage. It shouldn't be deleted as long as it's used in the wikiproject template, and should be updated to reflect the new format of Portal:Chess, in particular the table and instructions on how to add someone.
Would you like me to wait until that second item is finished? ~ Amory (utc) 01:28, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
I've gone and done this. I ended up removing the link, I didn't think it was salvageable or particularly helpful/productive in the new format. ~ Amory (utc) 01:08, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for doing.Guilherme Burn (talk) 23:46, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

Portal:Narnia subpages

@Primefac, Amorymeltzer, Pbsouthwood, and Waggers: Yesterday, @RL0919: deleted the box-header pages for Portal:Narnia, which is great. I'd like to get your opinions on Portal:Narnia/Narnia topics. I tagged it three months ago, but I'm not sure the categories showed up to let you and others know that it was nominated for deletion. However, I did notify the creator of the template. Can it still be deleted, and if so, is T3 the right criterion?

  Done · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 04:53, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
Great, thanks. Greatedits1 (I hope so | If not, let me know) 15:07, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

I'm also wondering what your opinions are on the last two Narnia pages: Portal:Narnia/Quotes and Portal:Narnia/Did you know. I marked them as superseded due to a relatively large page history. Do you think that's the right choice, or should they be deleted? I'm fine either way. Greatedits1 (I hope so | If not, let me know) 00:11, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

I also do not have a strong opinion and will leave them until there is a request to delete. · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 04:53, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Portal:IRC has been converted into a single-page portal. The following list of subpages is no longer needed.

In fact, this portal, as well as Portal: Blu-ray may be nominated for exclusion, is there any policy to exclude portals? Guilherme Burn (talk) 23:29, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

@Guilherme Burn: What do you mean by "exclusion"? We have a system in which you can tag a portal as having a maintainer. You can also mark it for only manual maintaining. To do this add |maintainer=Guilherme Burn and |manual=yes to the {{Portal maintenance status}} template at the top of each portal in source editor. Labour Movement of Pakistan - Portal

Hello Admins,

I Would suggest starting a portal on labour movement in Pakistan. As I have plan to write different articles, can we build a portal.Umar shahid (talk) 21:50, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Umar shahid. First there must be sufficient articles on a topic of sufficient quality for a portal, then we make the portal for them. How many articles are there so far? Is there a navbox or category which covers the topic? Cheers, · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 20:09, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Holiday portals

@Northamerica1000, AmericanAir88, BrantleyIzMe, Emir of Wikipedia, and Robertgombos:

We should make sure portals for all the major holidays are created/checked long before their respective dates arrive. That way, we can avoid a last minute rush to fix bugs (like in Portal:Halloween).

Which brings a question to mind: what other holidays should have a portal?

I look forward to your replies. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   04:39, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

@The Transhumanist, Northamerica1000, BrantleyIzMe, Emir of Wikipedia, and Robertgombos: Here is my view: First off Portal:Christmas needs to be updated to fit the new automated design. We should also have a portal for Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Years. The first two are to represent that wikipedia acknowledges every religion during the holiday season and not just Christmas. New Years (or New Years eve) should have a portal because it is a universally celebrated holiday and it would be beneficial to link its to various New Years articles.

As for the future holidays: We should look to having a portal for St. Patricks Day and Easter. This portal project has been very actively recently and I love that it is at a peak. While we should continue to make portals about various every day items and the world around us, we should work on holidays portals as they begin to approach, such as maybe a few weeks before.

Thanks for including me on this. AmericanAir88(talk) 12:01, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Good ideas. I got a start on the conversion of Portal:Christmas. Needs a couple more sections.    — The Transhumanist   13:43, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
