What to do about people who vandalize? edit

Is there a special page where I can list down people who've vandalized? Account in subject is: [Special:Contributions/Chocolate_goth] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.249.105.66 (talk) 15:04, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

In the block log it says $1 (talk, contribs) blocked $2 for $3
Could it say $1 (talk, contribs) blocked $2 (talk, contribs) for $3 ?

Just a suggestion. Respond on my talk page also. SLSB talk 23:35, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
From a look at MediaWiki:Blocklistline and MediaWiki:Blocklogentry, it appears those are generated server-side, which in turn would mean this request would have to be dealt with through Bugzilla. – Luna Santin (talk) 06:43, 30 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
This is impossible on-wiki, due to the way block logs are handled. I have been working a lot lately on the block log in the code, and this sort of flexiility is what we are working on adding. I apologise if I (a non-admin) am not supposed to remove the editprotected tag. It seems invalid, since the edit is not possible. Try letting us search for Prefixes and suffixes... edit

...by searching like this:

        ---------------------------------------------
Search: | "-bot" |
        ---------------------------------------------

Or:

        ----------------------------------------------
Search: | "-admin" |
        ----------------------------------------------

  • I agree. You used to be able to search for "John" and get all blocked users who have "John" in their usernames. However, the search feature now only returns exact matches. It would be nice if we could have prefix and suffix searches. --Ixfd64 22:50, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

search rangeblocks edit

When I click on the link to search rangeblocks from Special:Ipblocklist I got a 4040not found error. How do I search for range blocks? Jeepday (talk) 01:30, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Now it gives me a "multiple headers" error msg:( DMacks (talk) 20:35, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
It seems to be working for me currently. I have learned that posting a note here is not the best place to get a fix. Post something at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard if you are still having the problem. No many people actually watch this page. Jeepday (talk) 02:48, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

autoblocks edit

Is there a tools about that we could link to at Special:IPBlockList for listing autoblocks? We used to have one, I just don't seem to see it now. If not, does anyone know who could create one? Ryan Postlethwaite 13:03, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Could be this one, doesn't seem to work anyway: http://tools.wikimedia.de/~pgk/autoblock.phpAlexSm 04:27, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

71.125.192.192 added "gay" to several pages on 25 Feb 08.

The edit http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=David_Hennessy&diff=prev&oldid=103328468 was done a day later. Will someone please verify that edit for accuracy based on the previous offenses from that IP?

I know how to edit pages on Wikipedia ... and that's about it. It's so hard to LEARN how to do any action more specific than editing articles because the "Special Pages" aren't searchable, and are hard to understand if you don't already understand them.

Could someone add a search box that will only search Wikipedia's "Special Pages"?

Yoda of Borg (talk) 09:54, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure why you want to search the "Special Pages". Most of them are listed at Help:Special page, if you mean that. To search the "Wikipedia:" namespace for something, do a search, then look at the bottom of the result page. It will have a checkbox with "Wikipedia" next to it. Also, at your preferences, you can specify that the Wikipedia pages should be searched by default.
As for user 71.125.192.192: I can't tell, but it might be a dynamic address. Good chance that it will never be used again, hence I never give warnings to such 'one-day flies', because it's propably pointless. That said, this edit to David Hennessy is interesting, but I don't think it was made by one and the same person, as it was made more then a year ago. I really can't tell if the information is false or not. I leave that others. He he, I'm lazy :p. Cheers, Face 13:46, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
One more thing btw: if an anon is causing trouble, and if it has had 3 warnings plus 1 final warning, you can report him/her at WP:AIV (remember that link). Cheers again, Face 13:46, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

help edit

There are many things I do not understand about the blocking system. What does it mean when it says someone else is using my IP? Am I the victim of Identity theft? Magnum Serpentine (talk) 02:35, 17 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I mis-read the block logs and there are no blocks for my name. I deeply apologize for this. Magnum Serpentine (talk) 03:02, 17 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

IP block range edit

Is there a way to see which blocks are on by CIDR range? edit

I want to search for ip blocks that are made by entering a CIDR range (not the whole range, but the independent ip address within a CIDR range). Is there a way to do this? Thanks Techman224Talk 04:38, 5 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

For example, my CIDR range is 142.161.0.0/16 , which is my ISP's range, and I want to look up all the ip addresses which are blocked within that CIDR range. Techman224Talk 04:40, 5 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

rbhelper.php edit

[1] is down. Is there a new tool, or can it be revived? John Vandenberg (chat) 23:46, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

If somebody could describe what the tool did, I could do it. Q T C 00:02, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
It would list active range blocks for any IP. I believe all this functionality is now builtin, for example[2]. It's possible that it may also have listed the optimal rangeblock to use for two or more given IPs, similar to[3], but I can't say I ever used that bit if it existed. -- zzuuzz (talk) 03:37, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Block 81.93.24.245 edit

81.93.24.245 has only made anonymous edits and has only vandalized for at least the past six months. It was blocked for 12 hours in May, but it hasn't reformed since then. I think it should be blocked again (completely blocked, from doing anything) for at least the next six months. --Eldin raigmore (talk) 20:34, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

70.241.118.59 grossly uncivil anonymous vandal disruption-only account edit

70.241.118.59 was blocked for 31 hours back in October 2008. For the past six months (May to November 2009) it has still been used only as an anonymous vandal. I believe it should be blocked again, for a longer time -- maybe 31 months instead of 31 hours. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eldin raigmore (talkcontribs) 20:47, 8 November 2009 (UTC) --Eldin raigmore (talk) 20:50, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

can't unblock edit

I erroneously blocked User:Therequiembellishere, and then thought I had unblocked him, but evidently he's still blocked. I had reset his block to 1min, and then tried unblocking and searching the block log, and supposedly he wasn't blocked anymore; another editor tried as well, but as of Jan 11:21h02, he was still unable to edit. Help! Thanks.
