Specifying placement of pictures

edit

Now, let us say we want either (a) text to float (wrap around) the picture, or (b) to specify where it gets put (left, right, inline, etc). To do this, we simply append the placement statement. Note that, when placing images, you should edit the entire page, rather than just one section, to avoid unexpected overlaps with other sections of the article.

Example 1 - Right align, float

The Phrase

edit

This article is a work in progress. I will still be working on it, and am in no way near done. Please do not delete.

Size of pictures

edit

Hello,

I have noticed that many articles have pictures on the right side. Some have small tables and other things on the right side as well. And many have text left of the picture or table. I looked through the FAQs, but I could not figure out how to put the picture or table on the right. If someone who could tell me how to do that I would be happy.

For pictures use:
File:FILENAME
OPTIONAL CAPTION
...... Dendodge .. TalkHelp 21:49, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
For tables and text, use
RIGHT ALIGNED TEXT

Bonsai

edit

Remilo, I'm glad you found the images useful, and I'm really glad to see someone expanding Wikipedia's bonsai coverage. I've been working on List of species used in bonsai lately, trying to find example images for every entry. One image that I recently convinced at Flickrite to put a free license on is Image:Honeysuckle bonsai 2-3-08.jpg. It might make a better example of jin that the current one you used. Let me know if there are any other deadwood illustrations or other bonsai shots that you want for articles, and I can try to track them down.--ragesoss (talk) 23:47, 24 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Admin coaching request status

edit
You have expressed interest in undergoing the Admin coaching program. However, after reviewing your edit history, I feel you may need more experience editing (i.e., >1,750 edits & 4 months of activity) on Wikipedia before you can know for certain your ready to begin the process of becoming an administrator. Therefore, at this time, your application for Admin Coaching has been declined.

My suggestion would be to seek adoption from a more experienced user who can help you experience all of the various components of editing an encyclopedia. If you decide adoption is not for you, there is also the editor review process that may help you find areas to improve upon in our editing. If you would like to talk more about this, please feel free to leave me a note at my talk page. Malinaccier (talk) 23:35, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would suggest (on a more personal note) to get more experience in editing articles for content rather than just reverting vandalism (even though your reversions are extremely helpful!). Happy editing, Malinaccier (talk) 23:35, 6 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have been writing several articles for content. I have a list on my regular page.Remilo (talk) 18:08, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hey, I looked those articles over, and they were really good, especially the Deadwood bonsai techniques! I think if you expanded the article a bit more, you could file a request for it to reach good article status. Keep up the good work, Malinaccier (talk) 14:08, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I just noticed that you re-added yourself to the coaching requests table. The reason I removed your name from it was that you haven't reached the 1,750 edit mark that is required to get on the list (This is shown here). Could you please temporarily remove your name? You will be free to re-add yourself once you reach the 1,750 edit mark. Thanks, Malinaccier (talk) 14:19, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

AFD

edit

Hello! You don't know me but I keep an eye on the requests for coaching page as I have a request there.I happened to look over your talk and noticed the on going afd discussion for ningen.I have supported to keep it.However I feel it should be:

  1. expanded, article needs to show there are myths, rumors, stories, etc about this creature and that it's not just some made-up thing(I for one have never heard of it)
have reliable sources, the sources you provided are at the most, dubious and doubtful

In my support for keeping I added that, imo the article should be deleted after a week if it did not improve.Cheers and happy editing!(You've created some excellent articles by the way, 1-2 can become GA soon if you improve them a little bit more.Xp54321 (Hello!,Contribs) 20:43, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. You are much nicer than most of the people I have met on Wikipedia.Remilo (talk) 21:19, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
