Userpage

Any comments on my userpage? Spencer (talk) 02:53, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

  • Did you copy the design from my userpage? Bart133 (t) (c) 20:36, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
    • Somewhat, but I added stuff on my own. My specialty right now is working on the Bolivian rivers pages that I created. Spencer (talk) 22:06, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Rivers

In case you would like to know, when creating articles on rivers, you can use the {{Infobox River}} or {{Geobox River}} templates. Those templates are used on most articles on rivers. Bart133 (t) (c) 03:20, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

  • I know. I've just been kinda busy. School just started, and I have plenty of homework to do. But I will do it. :X. I've been working on Chapare River the most. There were coordinates for it in my atlas, there was a pic in wikimedia commons, I looked at a Bolivia map, etc. It's actually a bigger river than I originally thought. It looks like you've resubmitted the template properly. An admin should be along soon to see if they can help. PS: the reason for the resubmission isn't that we're nitpicky, it's just that your IP information is normally private, so it can't be seen. (And without that, you can't be unblocked). Bimatoprost

I was just curious to how this chemical relates to Wikipedia:WikiProject Fashion? Spencer (talk) 02:36, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

According to WikiProject Fashion, it does handle cosmetics (or atleast the talk page for the WikiProject says that). Bimatoprost is being used off-label as a cosmetic, without a presciption (which is why it was seized by the FDA). 132.205.44.5 (talk) 03:17, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for making a report on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you! Snowolf How can I help? 22:16, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

New to Wikipedia comming aboard.

Hi Spencer, Actually, I started last month, though not as a wikipedian but as a "wikipedista" ---- in the Spanish wikipedia. I'll fill in my bio data in a day or so. Or may I just mention that my User Page can be found in the Spanish Wikipedia? I can see already -- from looking at your User Page -- that I will be learning a lot from you. I'll be talking to you. --Wkboonec (talk) 05:08, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

RfA Thanks

Hi Spencer - thanks for your participation in my request for adminship. You said that there was nothing wrong that you can see, and I hope to prove that that's because there wasn't anything wrong for you to see, and not just because you weren't looking hard enough. Anyway, the RfA passed 52/0/0, and I'm now in possession of a shiny new mop. If I can ever help you with anything, please don't hesitate to contact me. Archiving your talk page

Put the following on your talk page: {{User:MiszaBot/config|algo = old(48h)|archive = User talk:Spencer/Archive %(counter)d|counter = 1|maxarchivesize = 250K}} This will archive your page to User talk:Spencer/Archive 1. Once that gets up to 250 kilobytes, it will archive to User talk:Spencer/Archive 2 and so on. If you want to change what it does, go to User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo. Rudget!

Dear Spencer, my sincere thanks for your support in my second request for adminship, which ended with 113 supports, 11 opposes, and 4 neutral. I would especially like to thank my admin coach and nominator, Rlevse and Ryan Postlethwaite who in addition to Ioeth all inspired me to run for a second candidacy. I would also like to make a special mention to Phoenix-wiki, Dihyrdogen Monoxide and OhanaUnited who all offered to do co-nominations, but I unfortunately had to decline. I had all these funny ideas that it would fail again, and I was prepared for the worst, but at least it showed that the community really does have something other places don't. Who would have though Gmail would have been so effective? 32 emails in one week! (Even if it does classify some as junk :P) I'm glad that I've been appointed after a nail biting and some might call, decision changing RFA, but if you ever need anything, just get in touch. The very best of luck for 2008 and beyond, Rudget. 16:12, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for improving the Shaker Heights article. You may want to continue to look for better sources, because many contributors do not consider About.com to be a reliable source. a thank you note

Thanks for participating in my RfA!
Although it failed 43/27/0, I'm happy because the outcome has been very helpful in many meaningful ways. Your support and remarks contributed so much to this. If you followed my RfA you know what happened. Most of the editors who posted opposing opinions have never edited with me. Some articles I edit deal with controversial topics and with respect to a very few of these, editors who didn't know much about me had some worries about confrontational editing and civility. Since I support their high standards I can easily (and will gladly) address this. The support and ecouragement to run again soon has been outstanding, thanks again. Cheers! Age of consent

I simply added an example of a jurisdiction with a 10-year age gap provision. How is that vandalism? 72.81.251.2 (talk) 17:16, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

In the diff, you mention actors participating under the age of ten. That appears to be vandalism. SpencerT♦C 17:18, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Looking again at the ref you added, it really had nothing to pertain to the statement that was being reffed. You might want to add it as text the the section, as long as the wording is fixed. I presume not that you didn't mean actors as in movies? SpencerT♦C 17:24, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
"Actor" is used in some statutes (such as those in Colorado) to describe the alleged criminal or "perpetrator". This time, I added a wikilink to the Colorado section in Ages of consent in North America, which pretty much describes what I wanted to say in the ref. 72.81.251.2 (talk) 17:38, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Spencer, thanks for voting in my RfA, which passed with 47 supports (I hoped for a perfect square, but two away is close enough!), 3 opposes (the first odd prime), and 0 neutrals. I'm glad the community has decided to trust me with the mop and bucket (the flamethrower isn't supported). Of course, special thanks goes to my nominators Auawise and that one guy who buried stuff (not that the thanks I give to the you isn't special!). Hello

Hi, I disagree with your viewpoint that the Famous Residents/Notable Residents section should be included under "Shakerites", this is a term that is not commonly known and has no factual evidence that the term is used beyond a small enclave of people. Creating a new section with a Notable Residents Title is appropriate as the words "Famous" or "Notable" are better understood to a wider population. In fact I see that you have repeatedly changed and deleted the section throughout the history of this article. I question if you personally have a problem with calling attention to Notable or Famous people from the community?

If you look at articles of similar communities across the nation you will see that this section is entirely appropriate, take a look a the Greenwich Ct article.

To answer your question I live in NYC and own a home in Shaker Heights and often travel back and forth.

I am going to make some changes. Hopefully you see my point on the Famous Residents section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thelegendoftroy (talkcontribs) 19:01, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi Spencer, I agree, lets leave the Famous Natives section as is until a cultural section is added. I like the way the Houston entry is formated and agree that when a cultural section is added that the Famous Native section is reduced to a link to the list of people associated with shaker heights. However I think it is in the best interest to change the name of the link to "Famous Natives and Noble Residents, Past & Present" as it is more descriptive than the term "associated people".

The Shaker Heights entry is severely laking in terms of photos. The photos that are posted do not accurately describe the area at all and I would like to see some photos of the neighborhoods there that accurately depict the city. There is nothing that speaks of the wealth that was once held there or of the beauty and prestige of the neighborhood. I don't have any photos with me at the moment but when I come back I plan to add some.

I would like to add the photo from the link below: cleveland clinic: shaker image

But I do not know where the photo is from or who is the photographer. I believe the photo is being used by the city to promote itself as I have seen the same image on the Cleveland Clinic's website and recently at the (CLE) airport.

Are you from shaker as well?

I wanted to personally thank you, Spencer, for your support in my recent RfB. I am thankful and appreciative that you feel that I am worthy of the trust the community requires of its bureaucrats, and I hope to continue to behave in a way that maintains your trust in me and my actions. I have heard the community's voice that they require more of a presence at RfA's of prospective bureaucrats, and I will do my best over the near future to demonstrate such a presence and allow the community to see my philosophy and practices in action. I hope I can continue to count on your support when I decide to once again undergo an RfB. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:GreenlakeShaker-crop.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:GreenlakeShaker-crop.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 13:21, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I have noticed you making changes to a number of mountain articles so that the coordinates appear in the title area. Kansas Coal Headline

I respect your view, but what if the headline read: "China [sic] Stops Coal-Fired Fossil Fuel Power Plants Citing Environmental Effects of Coal, including Global Warming and Pollution." The point is that coal is valuable to Kansas for mining revenue and for the production of electricity. The Kansas governor has put the environmental impact before state financials. I am unaware of any member of US government that is willing to shoot themselves in the foot (short term) to head off possible long term environmental effects - in this case, acid rain on Canada, global warming, and U and Th contamination of farmland. The US can't say anything to any other country, unless we are hypocritical. China (poplation 500 x Kansas) could move from 1kW to 10kW per capital (using more coal and nuclear) and create a dirty mess. Please reconsider. 100TWdoug (talk) 20:27, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Vehicle registration plates of New Jersey

Vehicle registration plates of New Jersey and several other similar articles have naccurate information and providing a link to a primary source is a much better option. Most of the license plate articles are filled with bad information, so it is best to link to the various state DMV sites which has the latest and most accurate information. This is not a license plate information webstite and linking to primary sources seems the best thing in these cases. Yuck Flu By Road (talk) 21:28, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

License plate articles

Most of these articles which you have appeared to add this unsourced, inaccurate information to you seemed to have had some hand in creating or adding the information that is inaccurate and has no real reason even being here. Linking to the primary source makes the most sense since this is not the place to really be adding all this sort of information. Providing links to the primary source seems like the best course of action. There is no real reason to list hundreds of plate types offered by states. It seems like an absurd idea. Lady Aleena's future

Spencer...Several people have expressed an interest in my next probable nomination for adminship. Messaging people when it happens would look a lot like canvassing, so I would prefer not doing that. If you are interested in it, you could add this to your watchlist. If it is created, you will know, maybe even before I do depending on how often you check your watchlist. If you wish to gush prior to it being officially up, have fun, but only when it happens please. I am in no particular rush. Have a very nice day! :) - LA @ 09:57, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Rfb participation thanks

Hello, Spencer.

I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your support. -- Avi (talk) 18:50, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

My RfA

Hi Spencer; I wanted to say thank you for supporting my request for adminship, which passed with 100 supports, 0 opposes and 1 neutral. I wanted to get round everybody individually, even though it's considered by some to be spam (which... I suppose it is! but anyway. :)). It means a lot to me that the community has placed its trust in my ability to use the extra buttons, and I only hope I can live up to its expectations. If you need anything, or notice something that bothers you, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks again, PeterSymonds | talk 22:44, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Coord template

I use the coord template for two reasons. According to the coord template documentation, the coor template supersedes the coord template. Also, the coord template allows the template to be inserted in one place in the article (like the infobox) and appear both there and in the title (so that it will be picked up by Google Earth and such). With the coor template, you had to put two templates into the article to accomplish this, and there was always the chance that the coordinates inserted in them wouldn't match (because, for example, someone would change one and not the other). I try not making a point of going in and editing articles just to change them, but when I edit articles for other reasons, I change this as well. (I did change one or two articles just for the template to see how liked it.)Hillrhpc (talk) 14:35, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Spencer/Archive 1, just a note of appreciation for your recent support of my request for adminship, which ended successfully with 112 supports, 2 opposes, and 1 neutral. If there's something I've realized during my RFA process this last week, it's that adminship is primarily about trust. I will strive to honour that trust in my future interactions with the community. Issue II - May 2008
From the editor:

Here's Issue II of the project newsletter. We're trying to decide if this is sinking or floating. If you would like to contribute to next month's newsletter please jump right in at the News Desk! Have a great May.

The Ohio Portal

The maintainers of the Ohio Portal are looking to get it to featured status. They would like to ask all project members to help improve it any way they can. What needs to be done most is the supplying of selected articles and images.

Selected Article: Indian Head Rock

There is a eight ton rock in Ohio that was removed from the Ohio River. This rock is known as the Indian Head Rock Dating back to the early 1800’s, this rock was seen sticking out of the Ohio River and used as a navigational mark for barges along the river. The names of citizens from the town of Portsmouth, Ohio are carved into the rock from the late nineteenth a early twentieth centuries. Some of the names were of well known families from Ohio. They would swim out to the rock, have their picture taken with it or simply carve their names into it.
With the advent of the Locks and Dams along the Ohio River, the rock eventually was submerged, but the legend lived on. A gentleman from Ironton, Ohio located the rock after searching a very long time for it, and he and a crew of scuba divers recovered the rock and took it to the shore to be donated to Ohio for historical value.
After hearing the news about the rock being removed, Kentucky introduced legislation against the removal of the rock. They also want the diver who found it to be prosecuted for removing the rock. Kentucky owns the greatest part of the land the river runs on. Even the Army Corp. of Engineers got involved as to how to move the rock without damaging it. Kentucky wants to have it returned to the river.

Many thanks for your participation in my recent request for adminship. E-mail at HAU

Wow, Cobi has made a bunch of changes to the formating of WP:HAU/NA, so now it uses a bunch of templates. I couldn't figure out how to change the e-mail setting, just the other options. On the older version that I created, still visible in the formatting of the other continents, I could've fixed that problem in about 2 seconds, but with the new setup, I'm just as confused as you are and couldn't find anywhere at all to change whether or not you have e-mail available. If you weren't in the North American table, I still could've helped you out, but as it is, you'll have to contact Cobi regarding this issue. Useight (talk) 01:34, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. Wikimedia Commons

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is, however, another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading your media there instead. That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!--OsamaK 01:54, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

For that reason we prefer you upload your files on Commons. Should we re-upload all your files?! Should Wikipedians lose their time? You can do it directly ;). Commons has a beautiful\clear interface, I think it's better than ours on English Wikipedia :), Check it there. Anyways, Many thank you for your great edits.--OsamaK 06:23, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Are you using SUL?, if so, you will be able to login without creating a new account, if not, you have to select another name (Believe me, That's easier than uploading your images to commons, and losing time :D)--OsamaK 20:51, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
So, alright? When you upload your images to commons, put {{subst:ncd}} and it will be deleted from wikipedia.--OsamaK 03:50, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

From the editor:

This is the third edition of the WikiProject Ohio newsletter. If you have any project announcements feel free to drop them by the NewsDesk. It's request that you watchlist our talk page; so you can chime in on current discussions. Have a great June!

The Ohio Portal

The maintainers of the Ohio Portal are looking to get it to featured status. They would like to ask all project members to help improve it any way they can. What needs to be done most is the supplying of selected articles and images.

Getting the Project Moving
  • WikiProject Ohio as an entity doesn't have as much action as other state projects. For this reason it has been proposed that the inactive WikiProject Ohio Townships be added as our taskforce. There is a !poll going on at WT:OH and your opinion is essential in the matter!
  • Stepshep has also proposed sending an invite to everyone in Category:Wikipedians in Ohio with an invite to join the project. If you are already a member you would not receive the notice of course. Once again, please note your opinion on the project talkpage.

The Central Avenue Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located at 201 to 338 Central Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. It consists of late 19th and 20th Century Revival-style houses as well as late Victorian-style houses, which were all originally single-family residences.

On December 16, 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Each month a new Ohio related stub is the selected article. If you have a new stub created feel free to nominate it at the NewsDesk.

The 25 of Ohio's 69 National Historic Landmarks that were red-links all got articles this month, as part of a WP:NRHP drive to finish beginning the 2,430 or so NHL articles needed for nation-wide coverage. WP:OHIO members Stepshep and Sanfranman59 were busy.

Shaker Heights, Ohio

Hi. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you about this. I was away for a while, and I'm still trying to get caught up on all that I missed. You've done a great job improving the article. I just went through it and made a few changes. It'll probably still need more work if you're planning to bring it to featured status, though. I'm fairly certain that you'd be dinged for having a replaceable fair-use image in the infobox. You've already added a couple images, but a few more free images could improve the article. Also, the famous natives section is unreferenced.

You probably already know this, but just in case you don't, Wikipedia has a formal peer review process for gathering feedback. If you're happy with the results of that, then you could nominate it for consideration as a good article before embarking on a featured article nomination. - Eureka Lott 06:39, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Rfa thanks

Thank you for participating in my RfA. The Rfa was successful with 64 Support and 1 Neutral. None of this would have happened without your support. I would also like to thank my nominator Wizardman and my sensei/co-nom bibliomaniac15--Lenticel (talk) 09:12, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
