Talk about aggression

I appreciate your message on civ, so I decided to reciprocate the visit. I called for honesty and transparency in the message I posted and then decided to delete, and I am calling for the same thing here. Let's strive for that, at least, agreed? I removed what I wrote because of bullying, not because what I said was not relevant. I did notice, after I deleted my last comment and before I closed the window shortly after, my head shaking in disappointment, that not all previous pertinent discussions had been archived. So you caught that, and decided that I was rookie enough to bully? Before you object to the word "bully", let's look at the facts, shall we? You claim I "so aggressively challenging everyone". Apart from the short-lived (seconds) comment, where did I ever question anyone other than the original person involved? Since you are familiar with looking at history, you should learn to look at things through unbiased lens. Prior to soetermans rushed to get other people in the Game section involved, the Wikipedia:Consensus according to page edit and talk history was to keep that part. soetermans was the only person that kept pushing for its removal. And that person's approach was very confrontational. So talk about consensus, yeah, indeed. Stick to the facts, and do not rely on arrogance or seniority, or the combination of the two. Distorting facts and trying to intimidate other people with those distorted facts is bullying. It's so ironic that someone claiming they are removing a section because they are "writing for the general audience, not just gamers," which is essentially the sole cornerstone the argument is based upon, and yet when there is a disagreement, that person rushed only to the gaming section, yelling "Let's swarm, intimidate, and silence that rookie who dared to challenge my decision." (figure of speech from a non-gamer, i.e. general audience member). So the complete lack of respect from you and some leads to these questions: why in the end the general audience who cared had to flee? Do you just want to dictate but are unwilling to listen? I feel fortunate that I logged into my account and then thought better of it, also I decided to quit the argument. See, this was exactly why I was saying that you needed to learn more about Wikipedia before getting so wound up, because you're taking basic, mundane, encouraged actions, like archiving talk pages and asking WikiProjects for input for a consensus, and complaining about it like it's a wrong-doing. That sort of mindset is extremely off, and would be instantly rejected anywhere you may have chosen to "escalate" things, as you had alluded to. I can try to help further if you actually want to learn, but you'd have to cut down on all hyperbole and melodrama - to claim you were subjected to "intense intimidation and fear" is ludicrous - the conversations were rather tame and mundane, and we're talking about some fiction content in video games, not something serious like political or religious beliefs - there's no reason to think anyone would have any reason for such "intimidation" tactics. Tetralogy

Does the word "tetralogy" not fit in the case of the Bubsy series? What do you mean when you said "not some sort of collective works"? Wubzy (talk) 16:50, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi there, Wubzy. Let me explain. Usually, when people use terms like "trilogy", its something that is developed purposefully in a set of three, like a story arc or something. Things like Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings. I don't really think that this was the case with something like Bubsy. They're not really any sort of collective work. There were three 2D platformers, and one 3D platformer, and they were all pretty much stand-alone titles. No real sense of continuity or interconnection, other than controlling Bubsy through levels.

Think of it this way and maybe it'll help: Look at the Mass Effect series of video games. People often consider the first three entries a "trilogy" because the three game's are very interconnected, and were developed to be that way. Conversely, even though there is now a fourth entry (Mass Effect Andromeda), people don't usually use the term "tetralogy" to describe the series. Why? Because the fourth title was developed with any sort of connection to the other titles. That's kind of what I'm getting at with Bubsy. (Also, the word "tetrology" isn't really used very much to begin with, so I don't know if its the best word choice regardless. It's...kind of awkward.) Sergecross73 msg me 17:04, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

• An RfC proposing an off-wiki LTA database has been closed. The proposal was broadly supported, with further discussion required regarding what to do with the existing LTA database and defining access requirements. Such a tool/database formed part of the Community health initiative's successful grant proposal.
• Some clarifications have been made to the community banning and unblocking policies that effectively sync them with current practice. Specifically, the community has reached a consensus that when blocking a user at WP:AN or WP:ANI, it is considered a "community sanction", and administrators cannot unblock unilaterally if the user has not successfully appealed the sanction to the community.
• An RfC regarding the bot policy has closed with changes to the section describing restrictions on cosmetic changes.

Technical news

• Users will soon be able to blacklist specific users from sending them notifications.

We usually prefer that we have a source that literally says "Person X is a member of Band Y" whenever there are people unsure of the official status. (And people are unsure here - if you look at the page history people have been arguing about Rami these last few days.) Bands frequently have studio members contribute for years before being members, or sometimes they never do at all. Per WP:BURDEN though, it'd be up to you to provide a source to verify this. LTPofficial

LTPofficial has been editing a bunch of The Sims articles to include the Japanese name, even though none of the games had a Japanese developer nor were originally released in Japan. I've already left a message on his talk page (and explained in some edit summaries), explaining that it goes against guidelines WP:VG/JP, but refuses to give a reason for doing so and has re-introduced the name to one of them here. I can, if you want, but I'm reading that dif you presented above, as him saying he's going to stop. You're completely right with your reverts, though I personally don't see an issue with his later action - instead going for a sourced mention in the development and release type section. I do see some similarities, but I'm not sure there's enough to confirm that they're socks. For starters, both accounts age actually predate Kellymoats by a number of months. While its possible Kellymoat would create a number of accounts in anticipation of such an event, it seems kind of unlikely, considering KM started their account in August 2016 and didn't have any issues with being blocked until around May 2017. The other issue is that one of the main things in common between them is reverting that MariaJay person or whatever. Not terribly familiar with all of that, but it's my understanding that there's quite a few people who do this. So I'm not sure they can be automatically linked as socks if this is, in reality, something a number of separate editors do.

I'd recommend bringing it to WP:SPI if you want to pursue this. You may be right, I just don't feel comfortable doing a WP:DUCK block - it would require more looking into. Sergecross73 msg me 13:15, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Kellymoat - I never said otherwise. There's a ton of accusations and policy breaking between you two parties, whoever it is that is making up these 2 sides. But I asked both of your for clarification on your accusations last time, and received no response from either of you. It's hard to support you though when you keep fighting supposed policy-breaking with your own policy-breaking. And in the end, you did create a sock, with Kellymoat2. Yeesh. What a mess. The repercussion for block evading isn't necessarily an automatic indef block, especially if it appears to be the first time they were caught doing so. It is common practice to extend the blocks of the main account when caught socking, but I imagine the other Admin was lenient with KM, as their comments seem to indicate they didn't it out of not knowing better. XV Dev Article

Hi there. I've been working on and maintaining Development of Final Fantasy XV article for some little time. I'm wondering whether it might be suitable for GA now, or whether I should wait until all the game's DLC has been released. ProtoDrake - Sorry for the delayed response - yesterday was rather busy. Anyways, my two cents: I think it comes down to how much dev-type info we've been getting on the DLC. Personally, I loved the game, but I'm the type to move on afterwards, so I haven't been all that closely following the DLC stuff - so I can't answer this definitively myself. But conceptually, I'd say, if there has been notable dev content being released for the DLC so far, I'd wait until they're all out. If its mostly just been basic stuff. (Like Square announcing release dates for each episode, showing trailers at E3, etc) then I'd say go for it now, and just say you'll add the rest of those basic facts and they roll in. List of software bugs

Serge, a user (Walter Görlitz) keeps reverting two bugs I added to this list. They were MissingNo. and the Knuckles glide glitch from Sonic Boom, and both were backed by a number of RSes. I added them back, but he reverted me and accused me of unconstructive editing on my talk page. Can you do something about it? ~ TheJoebro64 (talk) 17:11, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

Well, the best solution would be to discuss on the talk page, and alert WikiProjects for input if a consensus can't be reached. My two cents on a compromise? Since Missingno has its own article, and is a Featured Article, I feel like its a reasonable proposal for the list. On the other side of things, even with some sources, the Knuckles glitch from Sonic Boom doesn't strike me as all that noteworthy. It's a minor part of a low-selling video game, and doesn't really have much significance outside of the Sonic/speedrunning fanbase. I imagine the coverage was just relegated to a short period as well?

I haven't seen Walter's input, so I'm not sure, but maybe that's a compromise we can agree with? A subject having its own article is a common inclusion criteria on Wikipedia, so it wouldn't be without precedent to do it like this either. Sergecross73 msg me 17:18, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

MK Vandal

I'm gleaning from that free form thread at the top of the page that this is someone being referred to as MK vandal. Is there a page somewhere? I see a hand full of accounts but not sure if there is a preexisting SPI case. I note the 45.247.0.0/16 range is being used heavily by him and that all of the total edits from that large range are only active since December 2016. This IP from that range has some interesting edits that I think are him. Once I know what name to properly associate with him then I'll block that one account and likely to anon-block that range. Low collateral possible as may be seen from the range contribs but the benefits of blocking appear to outweigh that.

• Yes, it's the MK vandal (short for Mortal Kombat vandal.) There really isn't much in the way of concentrated documentation other than what's above, but I can summarize a bit: A few months back, someone asked for help at WP:VG with an IP address who kept making poorly worded edits at MK related articles, and refused to participate in discussions. I gave notifications, then warnings, and they refused to engage in any meantingful discussion, so it escalated to to blocks. Since then, it's just been playing whack-a-mole with tons of IPs, and more recently, some accounts as well. The1337gamer may be able to give some more insight, as he's frequently the one who first finds them and alerts me to them. He's really good at spotting socks in general. I have gone ahead and filed the SPI case to get the ball rolling. This gives a place to start keeping track of him in the documentation. I kept it short and concise for the benefit of the checkusers and to achieve the current objectives but if you, The1337gamer or anyone else knows of other accounts or ranges that he uses that I haven't documented, they are welcome to add it. I didn't describe his behavior, in part to keep it short and because with so many of the accounts already blocked as this editor, I don't think it is necessary. Later reports will likely need behavior comparisons.

Would it be possible to protect Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Sources? It seems like it should always be locked anyways since there should be a consensus on what sources to add to it anyways? Yup, my thoughts too. I'd like to protect it, as there has definitely not been a consensus to The Needle Drop/Fantano to the reliable source list, so they shouldn't be making the edit, but we can probably stand to wait - with that discussion getting so much attention, I highly doubt they're just going to slip it in there without getting any noticing. I generally keep an eye on the page too. But yeah, if it gets worse, and/or if random people keep trying to add it after the discussion has run its course and there's no consensus to consider it reliable, Ferret or I will definitely get it protected. Yeah, as a release of this caliber, I assumed more would be necessary, but as Ferret said, you're not supposed to protect pre-emptively, and I generally prefer not to conflict with other Damon's actions. Technical news

• Fuzzy search will soon be added to Special:Undelete, allowing administrators to search for deleted page titles with results similar to the search query. You can test this by adding ?fuzzy=1 to the URL, as with Special:Undelete?fuzzy=1. Currently the search only finds pages that exactly match the search term.
• A new bot will automatically revision delete unused file versions from files in Category:Non-free files with orphaned versions more than 7 days old.

Miscellaneous

• A newly revamped database report can help identify users who may be eligible to be autopatrolled.
• A potentially compromised account from 2001–2002 attempted to request resysop. Please practice appropriate account security by using a unique password for Wikipedia, and consider enabling two-factor authentication. Currently around 17% of admins have enabled 2FA, up from 16% in February 2017.
• Did you know: On 29 June 2017, there were 1,261 administrators on the English Wikipedia – the exact number of administrators as there were ten years ago on 29 June 2007. Since that time, the English Wikipedia has grown from 1.85 million articles to over 5.43 million.

Re: 2010s in music

Hello Serge, I realise this is more than two months after you raised the issue on the WikiProject Albums page, but I've been on an eight-month Wikibreak so I'm just catching up. Anyway, regarding your comment on the mess that is the above article, my first thought would be that it would be better off divided by genre, rather than by region. The first three regions in the article, North America, Europe and Australia, have many sub-headings that are essentially the same for each region (pop, rock, electronic, R&B, indie/alternative), and many of the acts that come under these headings have been globally popular rather than typical of their region, so there's some repetition here. Once you get down to the sections for Latin America, Asia and Africa, they become much shorter and more readable, and that's because essentially the genre becomes identified with the region (Latin music, K-pop, Afro-beat) and with few exceptions hasn't broken through worldwide. Obviously there are some genres within the US and Europe that are also more associated with those regions and not worldwide – country music and Christian music are predominantly popular in North America, for example. But I think splitting by genre rather than region would reduce this article somewhat. Richard3120 (talk) 18:21, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

• If you intend for me to do it - I'll keep it in mind, but I'm unsure if I'll be moving forward with it or not. The combination of its scope being so massive, there being so much terribly written information to be fixed, and the fact that so few have interest in fixing it, makes it an extremely overwhelming project. Just my thoughts really - as you say, it's a big project, and it's not high on my list of priorities (or anyone else's, clearly). There are at least three album articles I've been intending to get up to GA status or somewhere close for a while now, and I also spend a lot of time on WikiProject Colombia and the merge/deletion projects, so this isn't an article I'm going to be dealing with anytime soon. Tripple-ddd, whom you blocked for sockpuppetry, has requested unblock per WP:OFFER in UTRS appeal #17700. I'm consulting with a Checkuser to see if there has been sockpuppetry, but as the blocking admin I'm asking your opinion as well. End of Seventh Generation of video games

Hi Sergecross73 I started a discussion on the talk page of Seventh generation of video game consoles because on certain templates like Template:Video game consoles has the seventh gen ending in 2017 and the article itself has the Wii Mini being discontinued WW in 2017 about a month ago. While I doubt anyone would dispute this fact considering after extensive searches you can't find any model of the PS3 Super Slim or Wii Mini being purchased brand new from any major stores or on the manufacturer's websites. Taking the PS3 for example I searched on various official PlayStation websites, including Japan and UK, and the only one that still has "buy now" links is the UK site. However all the retailers no longer sell the system. However I can't find a specific source about the systems being discontinued. The fact that the page itself and the template I mentioned now says the generation has concluded has left the timeline on Video game console saying the 7th gen as ongoing can lead to confusion. I have no issue with updating the table on Video game console saying the 7th gen ending in 2017 or reverting the changes made on the other two pages I just wanted to discuss this first with the community to avoid any kind of edit disruptions/wars down the line. ♪♫Alucard 16♫♪ 02:55, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi there. Yes, I removed the information. In regards to that content there were a number of issues present:

1. There weren't any sources present that verified the information. I did a quick Google search and didn't see anything about the reformation either.
2. It used a lot of wording like "hinted" and "revealed through cryptic messages", which made me wonder how much of it would be official, and how much was speculation.
3. The content claimed that the band reformation was announced on July 28, 2017, which is eleven days in the future.
4. What was claimed to be a press release was supposedly copy/pasted right in the article. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place to reprint press releases. That goes against Wikipedia's policy on being overly promotional.

Short version: If you or anyone can provide a reliable source that verifies the reformation, it could be re-added to the article, and then I can help cleanup some of the other issues that were present. Sergecross73 msg me 12:43, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, unfortunately, the only two areas I really specialize in are video games and music. I'm not very well versed in book/comic books/Batman stuff, so I wouldn't be much help outside of the general Wikipedia help stuff in that area - the sort of stuff you're already well aware of at this point.
